clevenger dealing right now
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

Indians sure know how to suck the air out of capacity crowd. They tied the game with 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th, the crowd was jazzed, but the first hitter splits the gap in right center for a double that Guyer fumbles into a triple, then Gonzalez's relay throw ends up in the Indians dugout. Run scores ... a double with 2 errors, AKA a little league homer. Damn!

very strange game ... Tribe scores two runs on an infield hit, and then the Yanks score on a double/two error play.
Bauer vs Tanaka today. I like the Tribe's chances to even the series

(no error) I guess you have to call it great baserunning. Although if the second runner had been tagged out at the plate, it would have been called a terrible blunder.

Did I hear this right?
Yan Gomes headed to his first All-Star game?
How is that? On what basis?

I think it was an alternate type thing

So, he was the next best available catcher?
I mean, that's great.
I understand Gomes is considered decent defensively, but is he in the top 3-4 overall catchers in the American League?
I think that's what his selection means.

Yeah, he'd be like the third best catcher ... there were 2/3 injuries IIRC

Bauer goes 7 good innings - 2 earned runs - but leaves with the game tied, 2-2. Carrasco comes in for the 8th, and pretty much blows them away. Tito wants this game.

Brantley homers in the bottom of the 8th for the lead, 3-2. Come on Tito, stay with Carrasco. Don't go all Hargrove and insist on using your closer when you have another guy (Carrasco) throwing BB's.

Tito had the temerity to defy Dave from Dawgtalkers, and it worked out, since Allen got the save. I forgive him (Tito)- I'm sure he's relieved to hear that - but I still hate managing "by the book".

I just hope Encarnacion is okay. He got hit by a pitch in the hand/wrist area in the 8th, immediately ran to the dugout, and left the game. Fingers crossed; we need a healthy EE.

Thanks for the update. Climbed on here after I heard he was hit and hurt late, but had to leave the TV to deal with some issues outside.
Fine means he is OK moving forward, I hope. Scary.
Wenned everybody on board. Including the pitchers.
Wahoo! Good notch today. Go Tribe!

I feel bad for the Indians - they finally have a couple weeks after the Cavs' season ends to get "above the fold" on the local sports page, and they run into the World Cup, and then, because of the AS break, they don't play any games the week before the Browns open TC. Oh well, at least they're getting good crowds ... 93,000 last weekend for a 3-game vs Oakland, and over 130,000 for the 4-game series with NY.

Bieber just fell off a cliff A rookie in his first 7 starts that regularly gets you into the 7th inning having given up 3 or 4 runs, thus keeping you in the game and giving you a chance to win, is doing quite well.. He had a few 0 and 1 run games but I'm not sure how long you expected a guy in his first call up to be able to keep doing that. Plus, any rookie call up, often looks good until other teams start to collect information on them and see some tape.. then the hitters adjust and the pitcher needs to adjust.. Bieber is not a problem.

it seems like LA's payroll should be astronomical ... they always seem to get someone big at the deadline, but it never puts them over the hump

http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/24139258/cleveland-indians-bolster-bullpen-getting-brad-handGreat pickup. Brad Hand is under team control through 2021, which will be big if we lose Cody and/or Miller to free agency. Cimber will be a set-up guy. This is pretty much the same as the trade that dealt Clint Frazier for Andrew Miller. Now we need a RH bat in the outfield. Rumor has it they're talking to the O's about CF Adam Jones.

http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/24139258/cleveland-indians-bolster-bullpen-getting-brad-handIndians get Brad Hand from Padres in deal for Francisco Mejia12:01 PM ET The Cleveland Indians bolstered their struggling bullpen on Thursday with the acquisition of San Diego Padres closer Brad Hand. The Padres will also send reliever Adam Cimber to Cleveland and will receive highly touted catching prospect Francisco Mejia. The Indians lead the AL Central by 7½ games, but their bullpen is second-to-last in the league in ERA at 5.28. Last season, Cleveland had the best bullpen ERA in baseball. The Indians lost relievers Joe Smith and Bryan Shaw to free agency, but the holdovers have struggled as well. Closer Cody Allen's ERA was 2.94 last season but is 4.66 this season. Andrew Miller has gone from 1.44 to 4.40 and he has spent time on the disabled list. Dan Otero's ERA has skyrocketed from 2.85 to 5.60. Hand, a 28-year-old left-hander, has a 2-4 record with a 3.05 ERA and a career-high 24 saves this season. He has struck out 65 batters in only 44 1/3 innings. He is a two-time All-Star. Cimber is 27 years old but in his first season in the big leagues. He has impressed with a 3.17 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 48 1/3 innings. Hand not only helps this year but offers Cleveland security into the future. He signed a three-year, $19.75 million extension in 2018 that has a club option for 2021, whereas Allen and Miller are free agents next season. Cimber will also be under team control for a number of years. Mejia, 22, has spent the bulk of this season at Triple-A, batting .279 with seven homers and 45 RBIs. He played one game with the Indians this season. ESPN's Keith Law ranks him as the No. 5 prospect in baseball.

Hand is good, but for Mejia?? Ouch!
The Padres sports talk radio have been talking about trading Hand for awhile now, and I always thought the Indians should be after him. I guess we are happy enough with Yan Gomes? I always thought Mejia was the prized prospect in our minor league system. and we gave him up for a reliever? We really were desperate.

Well, to make a deep postseason run, you need a stacked bullpen. A young catcher won't help much. Starting pitching, bullpen and defense seem to be more important than hitting in the playoffs.
