We will continue to support Josh as he receives the care needed to maintain his progress. We are going to respect his privacy while he is away from the team. Josh will be placed on the non-football illness reserve list until he is ready to return.

A Message from John Gordon:
To my Cleveland Browns and NFL Family,
I am reaching out to you all personally and letting you know that I am not only doing great physically but mentally as well. You will notice that I will not be in Cleveland for the start of training camp. Rest assured, this, too, is a part of my overall health and treatment plan. I appreciate the awesome support I have received from teammates, friends, fans, and the Browns organization. Just like you, I am excited to start the season and I have every intention of being ready and available to join my teammates soon to help bring winning football to our fans.
With the help of the NFL, NFLPA, and the Browns’ organization, I have been able to utilize the resources available to me that will ensure my well-being on and off the field. By continuing to follow the plan set up by our medical director and his team and taking this time before this season starts, we believe it will help me maintain the progress I’ve made for not only today but for many years to come.

The Browns will continue to support Gordon, who has been working hard on his substance abuse program. Gordon will be placed on the non-football injury list as camp opens on Thursday. Rumors had swirled for the past month or so on the internet that Gordon had failed another drug test, but it's not yet known if that's the case. It's also not yet known if Gordon will be suspended indefinitely again. This sounds more like this was always part of a long term treatment plan than it is another incident with him. Not at the opening of training camp. If this were the middle of June, then maybe. If it were early July, then maybe. 3 days before training camp opens, and with no clear reporting date? Not a chance.

The fact that the team came out and commented on the situation makes me think there isn't anything being handed down by the NFL. Normally, the team refrains from any commentary until the league makes a statement about a drug issue, right?

Admittedly, this doesn't look good. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy on Josh Gordon, whom #Browns have placed on non-football illness list: "No timetable. We'll address the matter at the appropriate time."

I also hope that he has, indeed, turned his life around, and has managed to get off the drugs for good. However, you have to admit that the optics are absolutely beyond horrible on this.

If this is another failed drug test then I'm done. I have let myself believe in him one last time, and I won't do it again.
MKC is reporting that there were rumors swirling the internet over the past month of another failed drug test, but I haven't heard anything about that. And now this?

I don't know about that. r/browns usually has all news early, real and fake, and I don't think I've seen a single thing about a failed test there.
Granted, I feel like JG is gone for the year, but here's to hoping.

I agree. I’m just speculating like everyone else. Typically we find out about Gordon popping hot earlier into the process, like around the announcement time that julian eldeman popped hot for PEDs.

The #Browns have no plans to move on from Josh Gordon, who has had a great offseason and shown he's on his way to recovery, source said. As GM John Dorsey's statement said, the team continues to support Gordon. He'll be on NFI until he's deemed ready to return.

We have some naive fans. Gordon wouldn’t miss camp to avoid Hard Knocks. 1) that would be the top storyline of Hard Knocks 2) he’d be a terrible teammate, leaving his guys out there to answer for him
