If an arm was the only thing that mattered in the league, Spurgeon Wynn would have a starting job. Anderson serves absolutely no purpose if he's not starting.

Had to bring up the Wynn, picked the guy in the same round before Tom Brady and Aldalius Thomas. Damn Hindsight. In anycase while I don't believe Anderson is going to start, he still has a shot to make the team. It comes down to him or Dorsey but judging from the game Dorsey has the advantage, granted he was going against scrubs. It may also come down to whose salary is less. If the coaching staff views them as the same, the QB with the higher salary could be let go.

The only reason people get lost in thought is because it's unfamiliar territory.

This is a no-brainer to me...

Quinn/Frye/Dorsey...

U want that 3rd QB holding a clipboard and grabbing the shots sent down from the booth...Studying them to go over it with the #1...I sure as hell don't want Anderson giving Frye and Quinn any pointers...The dude doesn't know what he's looking at himself...

Dorsey makes sense here...And we're gonna need to re-sign em' also after this year...

I'm completely satisfied and a bit elated thinking about Quinn as the #1 with Frye at #2 with Dorsey at 3 come 2008 and beyond...

Thats exactly how I feel...I dont know if people still realize we are still building the QB position (going on 8 yrs). Lets face it its the most important position in the game. Realistically to be successful you need to have 2 guys that can play at any given time, and play consistent. Ideally you want a stud starting (hopefully we found him) followed by a guy who can came in and play at an average level consistently.

IMO Frye fits the back up roll perfectly. Not a world class cannon but good arm strength, hard worker (preparaton), and some experiance.

Keeping Dorsey is also a no brainer to me. He obviously is one smart S.O.B. and IMO looked like he knew the offensive much better and that intelligence and anlytical skill is in-valuable in todays NFL with the D-formations. like DinD said
he will be able to help with adjustments on O that could help win games. AND THATS ALL THAT MATTERS. Oh and IMO that arm didnt look too terribly much worse then # 9's.

That leaves Anderson the odd man out... Dont get me wrong I was at the Chiefs game Last year, the kid has talent, but Hes just terribly inconsistent.... I remember Toad sayng he saw him alot at Oregon and Anderson would always throw a pick at a crucial time, we saw that last year. And anyone who thinks he helped hiimslef saturday IMO is a little off....I just dont think with the QB situation at hand he brings enough to the table.......

I think the last couple years we been looking at measureables and potential instead of sound footballs players to build the QB position with. And because we are still building I think we need to analyze who is going to make the most impact in the W column

whether it be a "noodle armed intellectual" or " a tall often off target rocket" only time will tell but IMO the QB position shouldl look like this

Quinn
Frye
Dorsey

Dorsey plays well for part of one game and people get excited? It's obvious, to me at least, that neither Anderson nor Dorsey will amount to a hill of beans. Maybe Phil can get someone off waivers. Someone like say, Kelly Holcomb or Tim Couch.

or Jeff Garcia,

In this case I'd say the joke's on you.

Firstly,Jeff Garcia is currently plying for Tampa Bay and at last report is in the mix for the starting role. Though I think they will end up going with Chris Simms.

Secondly,Garcia did poorly here not due to his skill set as we saw in Philly, but because of the supporting cast and being put in a system here that went totaly against his strong suit. The "duck out of water" analogy fits perfectly here.

From what little I saw of the new system,Garcia would work quite well in it. So it is funny!

Funny you would throw his name into the mix where it doesn't belong.

Garcia is a pure, WCO offense only QB. He thrives on the bootleg, play action, and getting outside the pocket. The Browns are installing a vertical based, deep ball offense. He failed here because Butch kept him in the pocket, and didn't play to his strengths (despite promising him when he signed they'd be going to a WCO).

Garcia is going to win the job in Tampa because Gruden runs the purest WCO out there. Garcia understands the terminology and the protections.

Simms is a guy who's had success, despite Gruden's complete lack of support. Simms basically has to call out protections as if he's a right handed QB, because Gruden refuses to renumber anything. Also, he's forcing Simms first read to on the strong side of the formation, which is behind Simms' throwing shoulder. Simms is probably not going to win the job, or make the team.

I won't "predict" what we "will" install. But I CAN tell you what we "did" against the Chiefs!

If you have a tape of the game or watched it,you'll know it's true.

Charlie WAS running a type of WCO.

Desingned role outs, short quick three step drops, dump outs to the RB's. A PERFECT situation for Jeff Garcia! That's what we ran Saturday.

Now maybe when we can get a guy in there who CAN run a vertical game and execute that type of attack? Maybe they'll install it.

But when DA throws deep, the other team gets the ball. And Charlie works well with designed roll outs and the short passing game. Chud was smart enough to call plays and game plan around the QB's strengths.

My assertion is that given those same play calls and the same game plan that was executed against the Chiefs,Garcia in all likelihood would have performed just fine.

Haven't had a chance to really review the game film yet, but it's on tap. I didn't notice any typical WCO elements other than Charlie bootlegging, but I admit that I was playing race cars with my nephew for much of the first half

In theory, the Browns are going to run a variation of the Air Coryell offense, which is super different than a WCO.

I won't say it for sure, but just because Chuck was dumping the ball off short doesn't make it a WCO. Food for thought.

Well,I was just speaking about "that game" and not the "final product" after this new O is installed.

I think for now,we're just seeing a small portion of it. And I'm not saying it was a "pure WCO" but sure far more resembled the WCO that Air Coryell at this stage of its implementation.

Most of the dumpoffs was due to noone open downfield. Charlie was looking downfiels a lot. Anderson seemed to run more out of the pocket than Charlie.

Not exactly where it doesn't belong....

I was listing former Browns QBs who were run out of town by the fans.... Sure, I know that Garcia did a good job in Philly... Holcomb didn't do too badly in Buffalo.... Couch may even catch on in Jacksonville... but they are all reviled by a number of fans in Cleveland...

To tell the truth.... If Couch's arm is OK, I think it would be interesting to see TC come back to Cleveland.... with a decent line, good receivers and a running game.... Couch just might be good for more than his veteran leadership....

Couch to Jurevicious.... TOUCHDOWN....

Well.....

The thread is about options, and the possibility of starting Dorsey..... Hmmmm

Why not Couch....??? After all, Couch has done more in the NFL than Dorsey has..... ( He says as he runs for cover... )
