I have lost even more respect for Gordon. That's BS.

He should start making child support payments as soon as he starts collecting a paycheck, and should start making back payments as well.

The guy is making three quarters of a million this year. Pay the support for the child you helped conceive, and be a father.

He also got paid last year for the games he played. He wasn't playing for free.

Man, it really ticks me off when someone has a child, and then doesn't take care of them.

I also wonder just how he supported himself, bought clothes, food, a place to live, that camo car he drove in when he was finally cleared to play ....... he also had a Range Rover, IIRC ......

The guy isn't starving. He has money somewhere, and dammit, he should be supporting his child.

To fully understand what a huge mess this is, please read in its entirety the WKYC article if you haven't already. This is not some irrelevant side issue.

Fact: Josh Gordon is the father of two children by two different women, proven by court ordered DNA tests.

Fact: Josh Gordon was ordered by the courts to make child support payments but has failed to do so.

Fact: Josh Gordon refused to appear for numerous court appearances, court ordered tests, and court ordered depositions.

Fact: Josh Gordon's legal team has been playing deny, delay, and obfuscate games for several years now.

Fact: Josh Gordon is willfully and intentionally dodging his responsibilities as a man and a father. He has defied the court system and gamed the system, subverting a just outcome - the financial care and support which he owes to his children.

Does this sound like the behavior of a drug addict in recovery who is manning up and taking responsibility for his life? Really?

Josh Gordon's self-medication with illegal drugs is a symptom. The cause of his "need" to take drugs, according to the GQ interview with Gordon, is anxiety. Gordon very likely suffers from some form of anxiety disorder.

It is reasonable to assume that these latest court appearances and scheduled depositions highly stressed Josh Gordon. This is probably why he bugged out, yet again, on the Browns just a few days before training camp.

We have all been wondering what is really going on with Josh and this mysterious situation. Well, we now have a much better idea what is going on.

Here's The Problem

If Josh Gordon can't take responsbility for his duties as a man and a father....
If Josh Gordon can't handle stress like court orders and court appearances....
If Josh Gordon can't deal with the, oh so horrible "stress", of Hard Knocks and training camp....
If Josh Gordon can't handle the stress of NFL regular season games without using illegal drugs....

Why would anybody expect him to be a worthwhile NFL player?
Why does anybody think he will once again be the player he was in 2013, five years ago?
Why are the Browns allowing Josh Gordon to waste their time?
Why is Josh Gordon still on the roster of the Cleveland Browns?

I won't presume to know the details of the case - nor should anyone, but I would suspect that Gordon has no problem supporting his child, but you have to stop and ask yourself if $6,000/month (as I've heard reported) and more once he gets a new contract is a reasonable amount that he should just roll over and accept or perhaps is that a bit excessive and he should maybe seek a more reasonable agreement.

Personally, I think he should just sue for full custody, hire a nanny, and be done with it, but that is me being an outsider that knows nothing more than what is getting reported.

As for supporting himself -- his agent/business manager was supporting him during much of the time he was suspended (and not collecting any paychecks).

Here is another new article from about an hour ago.

https://www.cleveland.com/expo/sports/er...browns-tod.html

Didn't Josh make comments about becoming a man because he just had a kid?

Knowing that he was suspended in 2015 and 2016 and didn't have any income does complicate the case. He most certainly should be paying child support and taking care of his kid.

This year his salary is dropping to $750.000, or so.

Assume that he loses half in taxes. That's #375.000.

$72,000 to support his kid(s) is not unreasonable.

If the support is 6k per month and he didn't collect a salary for 2 years. That puts him $144,000 in arears. I'm sure he accumulated additional debt while he was jobless and incomeless.

Possibly the fact is they want to put him in jail for non payment. So to catch up he probably will have to pay 12k per month. Keep also in mind he has other children.

We don't know what is going on to judge him or not. Just cause he went through rehab doesn't mean he is to be a cash cow to a mother who is not thinking about the child. Got to consider the morality of the mother. Was this planned, is this an educated hard working woman or somebody who doesn't give a darn but looking to have an easy life ??? I don't know neither do any of you???

Glad it wasn't drug related!

The headaches Josh Gordon creates are not worth his contributions.

Haley loves several of the young WRs we have in camp. He also has a history of developing young receivers. Just move on. Gordon is a talent, but his unreliability outweighs even his great talent.

Just get rid of him, and move on.

Thing is, that's not how child support works. (or, in my case, worked - perhaps it's changed over the years?)

In Indiana, where I got divorced, the court took the fathers income, combined with the mothers income, to come up with a 'total' income.

Based on that 'total' income they consult a chart that says "with that level of parental income, they should be spending X amount per week on the kid." (for numbers sake, let's say it was $100 a week) If the father made 70% of that 'total' income, and he was the one paying the child support, he'd owe $70 a week, while the mother was theoretically chipping in $30.

Same in Ohio, as, once I moved back here, and got custody of my son, it was a nice, easy, simple formula. Total income of the 2 parents, check the chart, with that income, X amount per week in child support. Determine the percentage of the 'total' income, and that's what the ex spouse paid.

And dang - it was easy to get after my ex didn't pay. I called the county. Showed them the court papers. (ex kept saying she couldn't afford to pay cause she had 4 other kids)

Bingo. They got ahold of her employer, and next thing you know, I was getting child support payments.

So, the higher your income, and/or the lower the other parents income, determines how much you/she pay.

The only thing I think you should consider tab, is whose fault was it that Josh had no salary for two years? That responsibility rests squarely on the shoulders of Josh.

I'm not sure why he shouldn't be responsible for paying support during a time he himself created a situation in which he decided to screw up his paycheck.

Beyond it all, that child still has to live and be supported on matter what self inflicted mistakes Josh makes.

For maximum effect and exposure, I'm thinking (ut-oh!) Josh Gordon should skydive into our stadium on opening day... And I'm also thinking he should probably wear a cape? Yes? Yes? Yes! Just my opinion. Thank you for your time.

Does this sound like Gordon is a fit .... to anyone?

Browns hope Todd Haley's tough love creates mentally tough offense
https://www.clevelandbrowns.com/news/bro...y-tough-offense

“That’s the type of group that we’re looking to be. Any opportunity that you have a chance to do that, we’re trying to do it. Guys are making progress. You want a mentally tough group that can overcome adversity. You definitely want a disciplined group that’s not going to do things that get you beat in a game.”

......

"You're looking for a team that can bounce back within a game, bounce back after poor games," Haley said. "Just general overall pretty obvious things that you're looking for. You're looking for a team, a group that doesn't back down, that continues to fight and is able to overcome adversity.”

Agreed - nothing was stopping Josh from finding other employment and petitioning the court to modify his child support payments based on his current compensation, with the understanding that the prior rate of support would resume when he was reinstated to the NFL. Not being able to play NFL football doesn't mean he couldn't have some kind of job.

Kind of impossible to make child support payments when you’re not collecting a steady pay check. And then threaten to release embarrassing personal info on him that could put his future paychecks in jeopardy. Man ...hard knocks would have a field day on Josh if he was at camp.

At some point people need to realize that Josh is accountable for his own actions. Being stupid and having children at the same time aren't his child's fault.

If... they are interpretations, they are interpretations heavily based upon facts and court documents. Read the article. Pay attention to the details. It's all there.

Here are some of the relevant quotes from the article:
Originally Posted By: WKYC TV3

His paternity has since been established through a DNA test. Court records show he’s also failed to comply with other court orders and discovery requests from Lockhart’s attorneys.

Many of the court disputes focused on Lockhart’s efforts to obtain Gordon’s full financial worth, which the wide receiver’s attorneys have fought to keep private.

While Gordon has been away from the team, his attorney filed a court motion on July 31 asking that the temporary child support payments be rescinded. The order remains in place.

The first payment was due Aug. 1, however, the payment has not yet been received, Lockhart's attorney, Joseph Stafford said. Any child support payments will come through the state and will be deducted from Gordon's paycheck from the Browns.

Gordon's attorney Tanja Holecek wrote in a motion opposing the order that the support payment amount was derived without the introduction of paychecks or testimony by either Gordon or Lockhart.

Based upon court documents cited in this article and quotes from officers of the court, Josh Gordon has been dodging court mandated DNA tests, court appearances, deposition hearings, and court ordered child support payments. Josh Gordon has hired an attorney to assist him in dragging out and delaying this process.

So, CleVeLaNd_sTrife, what you call "interpretations", I call facts based upon documented facts from an Ohio court of law.

Moreover...

I get that Josh Gordon doesn't have much money to pay child support right now. But what is his excuse for failing to show up for court appearances and deposition hearings?

If Josh Gordon has the time to do extended interviews with GQ and Sports Illustrated...
If Josh Gordon has the time to do workouts in Florida and splatter his workout videos all over social media...
If Josh Gordon has the time to do up to 10 NFL mandated drug tests every month...
If Josh Gordon has the time to pop in and out of rehab when he's feeling stressed...

Then why doesn't Josh Gordon have the time to show up for court appearances and deposition hearings?

Why doesn't Josh Gordon tell his attorneys to get his child support issues resolved as quickly and justly as possible if... IF... he really is rehabbing correctly and taking responsibility for his mistakes in life and making things right wherever possible?

As other posters have already pointed out, Josh Gordon could have secured alternative employment in a low stress job thereby enabling him to make child support payments.

Also, it is irrelevant whether or not the mother of Josh Gordon's child is a person of low or high character who may or may not be behaving badly. That child is Josh Gordon's daughter, and he has a responsibility and a duty to provide care for her, both ethically and legally.

Finally, if Josh Gordon believes that his daughter's mother is a low character person, then why doesn't he sue for full custody, hire a nanny to help with child rearing, and take proper care of his daughter that way?

I like the way you formulate your arguments. Practicing for the courtroom?

I think the answer is pretty simple. Josh is avoiding these situations because he is not mature enough / does not know how to deal with the stress of these situations personally. He seems like the type of person who avoids conflict at all costs. So, he just doesn't show up. Not something a well adjusted adult would do but it is something a recovering addict would do.

He does the GQ article and all those other things because his people are pushing him to do it. It fits the narrative that he wants so he does it. Anything involving pain or confrontation, he avoids.

Additionally, I wouldn't be surprised if he has serious cash flow issues. I'm sure he had to invest quite a bit for all his merchandise, not to mention for his trainer and manager.

In your previous post, you also left out the part where he mentioned he was intending to pay the child support.

“After my debt and monthly bills, I’d say it could range from 2-4k for U and [the second mother],” he texted. “My salary goes up next year so I could afford more & after that hopefully a new contract & I can afford more but for now…I can barely afford any of it.”

That's great. I guess the mom of the child must be intending to buy her clothes and feed her too.

I’ve been hard on Josh and I’Ve been advocating his trade or release for. ...ever. and others will attest to that here. IMO right now this seems different with the hard knocks show and all. I’m sticking with Hue on this one.

When it comes to child custody and child support, I stay away from making comments unless I know the entire situation.

Heh. Nah, not at all smile

When I get a bone to chew on, I gnaw it down to splinters. Sooooo much better than sucking eggs.

Josh Gordon is one of those Browns topics that really gets me riled up, so I go overboard with pedantic posts on the matter. I can get quite tiresome at times about this stuff, but I'll let it go in due time. Hey, I finally let go of the whole Johnny Manziel mess. tired

The good news is that there are other Browns topics that likewise get me riled up, but I try to check myself and limit the rants. I haven't spoken up much about Dez Bryant and Hue Jackson, mostly because I recognize both sides of those arguments even though I take one side pretty strongly.

This makes sense and explains a lot of Josh's behavior.

However, the child support thing is an issue where he can call upon other people to help him with the confrontation. He can have a lawyer speak for him in court proceedings. He can have a lawyer and an accountant help him during depositions. By calling in some help, he can get this messy situation resolved and dealt with so it is not a problem anymore.

I did leave that out. In my initial draft of that post, I did include that part of the article along with much more, but I cut it all out for the sake of brevity.

(Yes, I actually said "brevity". Me... the king of verbose rant posts. I really do try to shorten my posts, and usually fail spectacularly.)

While that quote explains his cash flow problems, it still doesn't exonerate him. He has been on the hook for child support payments for three years now and has been dodging payments.

And as Josh said in that quote, he would be able to resume full child support payments once he returned to the Browns and resumed playing full time throughout the regular season.

How does skipping training camp help Josh Gordon to play full time in the regular season? If he doesn't show up for training camp by this coming Saturday, August 18th, he won't be ready to play in the vital, "dress rehearsal", third pre-season game. If he misses that game, he likely misses the first game of the regular season. And how many other games after that?

Family issues such as Gordon's dealing with are not an area I have experience in therefore I can't give an opinion.

Most of the time, in situations that are 'personal' in nature,
we get one side of the story that someone decides claim knowledge when in fact they also know little but they have no problem spouting opinions as if they do.

I'll wait for the Browns to handle the situation and do what is best for them and the team.

I'm looking forward to seeing Gordon on the field...

This is a fair comment.

Reading between the lines of the reports, my conclusion is that this woman is a nemesis of Bill Burr.

Still, PoS goldigger or no, her character and behavior do not change Josh Gordon's duty to provide financial support for his child.

if this isn't drug related then that means he could be here week 1.

not drug related, and he didnt beat a woman/kid.

which means i could care less, just be on the field come week 1.

It's pretty obvious that Josh is suffering from anxiety issues.

This is where I'm at as well. I don't quite go 'nuclear' as far as posting goes, but the part I quoted from you above resonated with me.

...and yeah, Gordon needs to stop with the videos and social media. It's annoying.

I’m starting to think amongst all his other issues ... hes also coco puffs ... dude does some wierd stuff ...

I wish him the best ... hopefully for his and his kids sakes he somehow pulls it together ... but this dudes also a bit whacked in the head ... why would u say a video was coming when u know everyones on pins and needles waiting to hear about your status .... and then a big zip ...

Thats not what a rational human being does ....

Good Luck Josh ... your kids need U and i don’t mean financially!

What gets me is that you will all be loving him the minute he's making plays on the field again. Just stop. smh

If this is a rehab issue, he won't be back at all... I can't see the NFL turning a blind eye to it.
