suddenly the ferry has taken on more water

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I didn't hate meat, I just saw him for what he was. A meathead. A loser. It's his nature. Could have been one of the greatest receivers to play the game. Talented beyond the wildest dreams. Instead, he was an imbecile. Dead from the neck up.

I am very surprised they did this. I would have done it long ago. I would most certainly have done it after he sprung the "I won't be attending camp" surprise on the team this Summer. That should have been it right then.

Buh bye meathead. Don't let the door hit you on the butt on the way out...

I just don't know if I've ever seen a player with THIS much baggage that surrounds him ... and it's NON STOP

Again, JG was on the field so little that this really is no loss talentwise. We all know his potential but the last time it was displayed was 2013. What we are really losing is hoping to have a great WR not a great WR.

I'm not happy about this and have always defended JG, but I'm not unrealistic about his current value to the team either.

Josh Gordon bids farewell to Cleveland

Mike Florio

On Monday, the Browns officially will move on from receiver Josh Gordon. On Saturday night, Gordon said farewell to Cleveland.

“Huge s/o to the city of Cleveland, this place will always feel like home to me,” Gordon said on Instagram, via Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. “I’m extremely honored and blessed to have been able to grow up and start a life amongst such a passionate and motivated group of individuals. It’s been a hell of a journey with you guys. I wish all of you nothing but the best. Thanks to the @ClevelandBrowns organization for having me, I’ll never forget my time here. ‘Same book, next chapter.’ P.S. Anyone need a deep threat WR??”

As to that last point, the answer is, “Hell yes.” The question becomes whether someone will roll the dice on a player who eventually ran out of second chances with the team that made him a second-round pick in the supplemental draft.

I’d really HATE to be in a fox hole with u and a bunch of others in this forum ...

You and a few others have all ready given up on OSU and there down 1 score with well over a quarter to go ...

The ferry’s fine ... we still have SOME TALENT ... hopefully our team isn’t full of QUITTERS that throw the towel in when adversity strikes ..

If your only hope for the season was meathead you are very naive. How many times can it be said? Never count on Josh Gordon! I have a lot of hope for this season and more so now that the huge distraction is over. We HAVE a great WR. A guy that WANTS it. Once the offense gels Landry will show why we brought him here. I'd take one Landry over 100 meatheads. Let's celebrate a player that did show up for camp. Did bust his butt all Summer to be the best he could be for us.

As the legendary baseball coach Tommy Lasorda once said drugs are a weakness and not a disease. It is clear JG has the physical talent to play in the NFL but not the fortitude.

The ferry is not only taking on water, it just hit an iceberg.

And the captain's drunk.

The foxhole is now just scorched earth, after enemy fire left it nothing but a burned-up gaping sinkhole filled with body parts.

Still, we beat the Saints tomorrow, 27-20.

We know that at least some of Josh's suspensions have been for more than "just pot". (by his own admission)

I see no way the Browns blow him out the door for something minor. Not after all they had invested in him. There's more to the story.

But if he could smoke, would he need the other stuff?

He's struggling after his first game getting hit. Yes, he can take pain pills within NFL rules, but as an addict do you open that door?

Trying to read between the lines a little bit. Taking an NFL beating has to be tough for someone battling addiction.

So what? Week after that he has a hammy, or a failed drug test, or doesn't feel like showing up. This was obviously the last straw in a string of unacceptable behavior just since the beginning of camp. His past aside, he wasn't able to pull his weight on a team that isn't putting up with slackers, jerkoffs or dipsharts. I was pulling for him, but if Dorsey says he's gone, you can bet he has a damn good reason for it.

Doesn’t seem he failed a test. Every other time he’s gone away he’s been quiet on IG and Twitter. Of course, I don’t know anything and more may come out but it seems after all the time/patience/hope invested in him, right when it finally seemed maybe the Browns and the fans would finally enjoy a return on this incredibly frustrating investment, he was cut for something other than drugs. I’m not saying it was the wrong move: just saying it sucks. You can look at it two ways: 1) why keep him through all the other bs then cut him for this (if it’s only the hammy/tardy issue) or 2) after all the bs, you have to say enough is enough...

just a month ago the homers were proclaming how the Browns
had the best WR core in the NFL.
what did Jarvis Landry proclaim " we will score 40 a game"
this news on Gordon is not helping a franchise mirred in a
1 for 32 slump.
this franchise needs a real injection of positive energy real soon

I've been a Browns fan for 30 years. That sound like quitter to you?

Btw, when I said 'the captain's drunk', I wasn't referring to you, just the captain of the fictional boat headed to a fictional island. Lol

That was my bad, I staunchly vouched for Josh, and he let me down. I really wanted to get behind a redemption story. I called a few people out for lack of faith, and you guys were right.

I was wrong, and many posters were right.

That injection is Baker Mayfield but Hue Jackson is not man enough to play him.

No affect on the ferry or the isle. We were all too seasoned to rely on that flake.

Here's something for the few remaining Josh Honks to seriously contemplate.

Since 2014, over the past five NFL seasons including the current one, Josh Gordon's stats are as follows:
  • Games Played: 11 (Out of 65 games scheduled)
  • Receptions: 43
  • Receptions per Game: 3.9
  • Targets: 93
  • Receptions per Target: 0.46
  • Targets per Game: 8.5
  • Total Yards: 655
  • Yards per Reception: 15.2
  • Yards per Game: 59.5
  • Touchdowns: 2
  • Receiving First Downs: 29
  • Receiving First Downs per Game: 2.6
  • Fumbles: 0

If we project these stats out over a full 16 game season, here is what we get:
  • Receptions: 63
  • Targets: 135
  • Total Yards: 953
  • Touchdowns: 3
  • Receiving First Downs: 42
  • Fumbles: 0

I get that the whole "projection over 16 games" is a bit of mathematical hooey, but it does indicate just how woeful Josh Gordon's performance has been since his big 2013 season.

Don't lament the loss of talent with the cutting of Josh Gordon. Josh has not come anywhere near fulfilling his admittedly awesome potential for a long time now. It is sadly doubtful that he ever will.

I came up with meathead after he got pulled over for a DUI with drugs in the car while awaiting a suspension appeal hearing. He might as well have walked into Goodell's office and taken a big dump on his desk. That was so incredibly stupid I dubbed him meathead. He earned it. Only a person that is dead from the neck up would throw away what could have been a HOF career. He had the talent. He had the athletic ability to be one of the best ever. Stupid doesn't cover it... damned shame.
