I just looked at his college stats. He was close to a 70% kicker throughout his career.
Last year he went:
0-19 no kicks attempted 20-29: 7 of 7 30-39: 3 of 4 40-49: 4-7 50+: 1 of 3
This really confuses the heck out of me. There have to be many kickers available who are better than this guy. Ty sir ... appreciate it ... u could have PM’d me that info ... *L* ... If this guy starts missing or misses a big one ... King John’s gonna hear it based on his pedigree ... They gotta see sumptin to sign the guy ... lets hope we see it too ...

I don't get it, either. Are we trying to find the next great kicking prospect? Why can't we just grab a known quantity (i.e. a vet) and move forward?
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Dude we signed isn’t a stop gap ....
Zane Gonzalez - K - Free Agent
Browns waived K Zane Gonzalez.
The Browns had no choice with a kicker who was just 2-of-5 on field goal attempts so far this season. Gonzalez missed back-breaking kicks in each of the Browns' first two games. Gonzalez is a rough 17-of-25 (68 percent) as an NFL kicker. It could be a while before he gets a second chance.

Answering a question w/a question is pretty lame.
You've been going out of your way to post negative posts and articles about the Browns. Some of them are just duplicative, but you post them anyway because it paints a more negative picture. Yet, if someone dared question Sashi, you threw a hissy fit and went off on them.
He's gone. He's not coming back.

You mentioned this on another thread, but Zane's issue is that it's between his ears. You could see it yesterday. That's a bad place to be for a kicker.
I feel bad for the kid and don't want to rag on him, but I can see why the Browns felt compelled to move on.

Adam Schefter ‏ Verified account @AdamSchefter 2h2 hours ago More Turns out Browns' kicker Zane Gonzalez, who is losing Cleveland's kicking job this week, has been kicking with a groin injury that requires an MRI today, per source. Browns could reach an injury settlement with him or put him on waivers, injured.

Minnesota is a very good team. I watched that GB/MIN game and literally the only weakness I saw was their K

Bailey chose them over us It was reported that he had declined 4 teams offers, the Browns were one of the 4. He's 30, he has his pick of teams, he will get paid well, why wouldn't he sign with a possible contender over a team that still has to learn how to win?

Bailey chose them over us Even as a Browns fan, I'd have chosen the Vikings too. I don't blame him or our front office for not coming to an agreement. He was the best available kicker and the best contending team needing a kicker got him. Oh well, move on.

FAU kicker Greg Joseph breaks three records against Navy Sept. 2017 Florida Atlantic kicker Greg Joseph began his Owls career as a walk-on, but will finish it as a record-holder. During FAU’s season-opening 42-19 loss to Navy on Friday night, Joseph broke three school records and tied another. He made a 24-yard field goal in the first quarter, an extra point in the second and a 54-yard field goal in the third. Joseph’s 54-yarder was not only the longest in school history, but it also made him FAU’s all-time leading scorer and gave him the most made field goals in school history. The graduate student now has 234 career points, passing Mark Myers (231) for the top spot. He also has 44 made field goals, breaking another Myers record (43). The previous school record for longest field goal was a 53-yarder, by Myers in 2003 and Mitch Anderson in 2012. “I’ll look back on it in a couple years, but right now, I just want to win as a team,” Joseph said. “Get a ring with this team.” Joseph’s previous career-long field goal was a 50-yarder against FIU last season. Joseph’s lone extra point of the night tied him with Myers for most PATs made (102). Joseph has made 92 consecutive extra points. Joseph, an American Heritage-Delray graduate, could also break Myers’ all-time record for field goal percentage. Myers made 43 of his 59 attempts (72.9 percent). Joseph has made 44 of his 63 tries (69.8 percent). “I’m just happy I was able to do this for my family,” Joseph said. “Puts a smile on mom’s face, it makes me smile. At the end of the day, there’s bigger things than football. It makes my family happy, it brings my family together.” Joseph also boomed four of his five kickoffs for touchbacks against Navy. Last year, 41 of his 54 kickoffs were for touchbacks. link

Kickers??
It's just me but I have low tolerance for kickers.
In good weather or domes they should be close to automatic from 40 yards in.
Extra point - 99 percent. Of course they are not responsible for missed blocks , bad snaps or poor holds.
There are tons of colleges. Plenty of guys who have been on NFL rosters. Lots of guys to try out.
They only have to kick footballs and very little else. A little physical training, no play books to learn, no heavy lifting, hardly any contact. Just kick the damn football.
It's like relief pitchers who come into the game in the seventh inning of a one or two run game and then walk guys. I lose my mind. FFFing throw strikes.
Gonzales came apart. It was written all over his face. I know it happens but it makes me crazy.
This team has worked so hard to get to this point. So much has happened. So many people have put in so many hours. Jobs on the line.
I applaud Hue for his comfort head slap to Gonzales. I would have to been held back from hitting him with a sledge hammer.
I am really happy with this coaching staff. Hard to swallow the last two games being the result of kicking the damn football.
My sincere hope is that Haslam sees the big picture. That he recognizes where this team has come from. And he is able to show the necessary patience to keep this staff intact.

The Vikings selected Carlson in the fifth round of the 2018 NFL Draft. Ouch! And I remembered talk of him going as high as the fourth round.

Thought they might keep him for one more game but I'm not surprised they cut him either. Just can't miss 2 PATs plus the FGs.

Some of his misses weren't even good kicks, they didn't have good rotation on them, they were wobbling like wounded ducks.. it wasn't just an accuracy issue of "pulled it a little".. they were totally mis-hit. Then the last one was just over compensation to the right, though he struck it much better than the others.

We'd have been better off going for two or letting Colquitt kick than have an injured guy back there.

The Cleveland Browns have signed K Greg Joseph. To make room on the roster, the team waived K Zane Gonzalez.
Joseph is a 6-0, 208 pound rookie out of Florida Atlantic. Originally signed by Miami as an undrafted free agent, Joseph was waived during final roster cuts. During the preseason, he connected on all three field goal attempts and both extra point tries. He is a native of Johannesburg, South Africa.
Gonzalez, a seventh-round pick in 2017, was 17-of-25 on career field goal attempts and 28-of-31 on PATs.

Why was he kicking if he was hurt? Did he not tell anyone he was hurt? Only speculation on my part, but this feels like a face-saving move by the Browns. Saying he was hurt gives him an excuse to find another job in a few weeks. Heck, I may be 100% wrong and he truly was hurt. No idea.
