While I can agree with you about the Steeler game, I didn't see that in the Saints game. Was the end result a loss? Yes it was. But the team stepped up and did what it took to win that game. Except the kicker. I guess I agree to the point that the kicker lacked confidence.

We need guys to step up in the clutch moments and make big plays, whether it be a sack by Garrett, a great catch and run by Landry, or a damn kicker who can make clutch kicks.

While I don't disagree with this in totality, with 8 turnovers and late game drives in the Saints game, it seems to me we had several players stepping up. Can't argue with the kicker though. lol

It's hard to make plays like that when you are playing "tight," because you know you have lost so many close games in the past.

I do know that. Maybe we just see this slightly differently. We have a QB who most certainly isn't known for throwing the long ball. He is what he is. Other than Njoku I believe that our WR's for the most part are stepping up. The D is taking gambles, playing what I consider to be loose and reaping the rewards of it. I'm not sure if you're speaking about the players or the play calls, but from the perspective of the players I think they have played pretty loose.

I am a huge believer in psychology in sports. Erasing negative thoughts is hard to do, but it is fundamental to success. You can't be at the free throw line hoping you won't miss. You can's be in the batters box and be worried about striking out. You can't be on the football field and be thinking that you hope you don't screw up.

Negative thoughts leads to failure.

The psychology of winning and losing is huge. This team needs a strong dose of tasting success. It could flourish into something supreme. If not, things are going to get real ugly.....again.

I certainly agree 100% with all of this.

But I do see a difference this season. I see players more focused on game day. I see less penalties and a team that has competed well against teams that were considered far superior. I see our loss against the Saints resting pretty much on the shoulders of one man, not this team. Those are all ingredients it takes to turn this around.

So while I agree that if the losing continues, eventually it will become an issue. I however don't see that as what I'm witnessing right now. I see a team that has cause to play hard and that has played hard thus far. I've seen players stepping up and playing good football.

So while we certainly agree on some of this, I don't think we agree on all of it.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

I'm really hoping we start learning how to win tonight. I'm more nervous about this game than I have been in years. I think this team is really improved and headed in the right direction. Just gotta win some games.

Me too. Even the self-proclaimed apathetic girl is nervous over this game. The team, and the fans, need this win.

I think we'll get it, but still worried.

My dingy is on its way.

I think Mayfield might have just showed this team how to win.

I think I'll just park this here;

That is a good place to start!

I think he just started starting. Super comeback.

FWIW thoughts, there was more optimism with BM. TT just underthrew everything. Start the kid! Let us get out of the win bypass operation.

I think that the team played harder for him on both sides of the ball. ST barely got enough done.

Anybody up for more tackling practice?

I was watching Good Morning Football, and all they can talk about is Mayfield and the game last night. One of the commentators spoke to what we have been discussing, not letting adversity stop us from winning. The drop by Callaway on the sideline could have derailed the drive. But Hyde picked him up by rushing for 10 yds and a first down on the next play. Then Landry had a pass bounce off his chest. Once again, they overcame. Landry again committed a penalty on what would have been a touchdown run by Hyde. The next play Mayfield threw to Landry inside the 5. (That, BTW, was great leadership. Landry had just messed up, and Baker immediately gave him the chance to redeem himself.)

The point of the commentator, and I completely agree, was that the old Browns would have let those adversities defeat them. This team, last night, overcame...repeatedly.

And they already knew how to do it, they just had to do it! laugh

Baker brought a belief in with him, that the team could win ..... and that belief was super contagious.

This was my point in my comments in this thread. They didn't "learn to win" in the 2nd half .... they just had to freakin' do it, and they did! The team, the crowd, the coaches, all turned around, immediately, as soon as Baker entered the game.He brought confidence and expectation of winning when he came in, and the team started playing to win ... offense, defense, and special teams. It was like the team had been completely deflated before he came in, and immediately everyone was pumped back up again.

You learn to play, but you just have to want to win more than the guy you're facing. That's what happened last night. (and in prime time, to boot!)

Gooooooo Browns!!!!! laugh

jc...

The Browns players, coaches, management and ownership, along with the millions of Browns fans finally get a taste of victory...the reward after years of hard work and sacrifice by the franchise.

The team that turned over 2/3 of their roster that they ended last season with took a huge gamble but after 3 competitive games to begin this season (1w-1L-1T), it's looking as though management made some good choices.

I'm going to be one of the first to remind everyone that 3 games do not make a season, but we are seeing the kind of positive change many hoped for when management changed late last season.

No one can be sure what the future holds for this team from now to the end of the season but in the first 3 games we see a team that is "learning how to win".

Continuing to win is going to be difficult, but the plan is just beginning to reap positive benefits. Browns fans need to manage their expectations and be willing to accept the ups and downs that come with a team that turned over 2/3s of their roster.

It was interesting to listen to the former players during NFL Network's pre-game show talk about how you do have to learn how to win games. Sounded very similar to what I've been trying to say for awhile on the subject.

I think last night might have went a long way in helping this team get over the hump. Winning next week would be huge for this team in more ways than one.

I think "Learning How to Win" is a piss-poor choice of words. It all means the same thing, but most players in the NFL have ALREADY WON in either College or another team.

It's more about PLAYING TO WIN.

Hell yes. HUGE. Because after learning to win there is expecting to win. Would be nice to see the RatBirds come to town with this team expecting to win and executing as such.

There has been a tendency to get tight when the team has been on the verge of a win. The Saints game really magnified that. So this is where another key mental factor has to overcome the tendency to play tight.

Without building a shrine or heaping undo praise, I think the injection of Mayfield had a lot to do with overcoming that "tight" feeling toward the end when the game was close.

I know he came on the field in a 2-minute drill and had the opportunity to open up some throws down the field, throws the rest of the team had not seen all year.. but he continued it into the second half and I think the rest of the team came out of whatever shell they were in..
