My favorite quote by Freddie Kitchens so far; "I always wanted the opportunity, but not under any circumstances, under these circumstances."

At first, that sounded like a confused sentence, but it is actually pretty clever phrasing.

Haley's offense managed two wins and a tie in eight games...he turned out to be a dud/fraud...but that's better than an offense that won one game in two years.

Also, praising a certain former HC for his use of a certain player in a winless/hopeless season isn't something to toot a horn over.

Way too many head coaches and offensive coordinators let their egos get in the way of what is actually best for the team. If running the ball 40 times in a game gives us the best chance to win then so be it. Trick plays have a place but must be used wisely. I remember when QBs called their own plays. It was a time long ago before coaches wanted to micro manage the offense.
I sure hope Kitchens has success. Maybe as he grows in the job he will lean on Mayfield more.
While he is only 23, Mayfield seems wise beyond his years.

I just want a winner. We need players who can be part of the solution not part of the problem.

I said it before and I'll say it again ..... I think Kitchen is one heck of a good football coach, and I think that he'll do a great job running the offense.

Half time vs KC. Feels like we're getting thumped, although the score is only 21-15.

Mayfield is currently 16/22 for 153 yards and 1 TD. Chubb is 14 for 56 yards and 1 TD. Duke and Perriman add an additional 17 yards on 3 carries.

Credit to Freddie, the offense has looked quite good. I really like the play calling thus far, and he's getting the weapons involved. The offense has been reasonably balanced, Duke leads with 6 receptions (On 6 targets) for 63 yards and 1 TD.

I tip my hat to our neophyte OC, that was a really impressive first half.

I think Kitchens has a better feel for the players than Haley did.

i thought our play calling looked better today

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

I think it was there for us more today. Help if we caught more balls. But we used the middle. Why do we refuse to roll BM out for passes? Our past blocking is meh.

I thought that Baker was more willing to take the play that works over the potential big play. He hit a few swing passes and screens today for solid gains. He still took some shots down the field, and more were good decisions. (with a couple that weren't)

I thought that Kitchen called a complete game today. They just could not maintain the gameplan because the defense couldn't stop KC at all. We ran into a buzzsaw face first.

I did like the offensive gameplan a great deal though.

I thought Kitchens had a good game.

He mixed pass/run and stuck to it.

He got Duke into screens which I have always felt was the way to go.

Callaway is a work in progress. However, it is clear we need a deep route runner who can win one on one.

I thought he was predictable, but less cute/trickery with his play calling.

And it worked.

Kitchens did a good job IMO but I thought he went to the well once to often on the screen although I like the screen, and I would have given the ball to Chubb a little more like 25-30 Carries he can handle it ...

Good for Kitchens, hope he can keep it up and improve with experience.
Sad for Haley. What does getting outshined by Kitchens do for his future coordinator prospects? Esp when you combine it with his obvious personality flaws.

The offense seem to be simplified and had a lot of easy throws. We also played a horrible defense (and will again next week). Hopefully things progress week to week and we see more intricate play calling.

I think he'll be gone w/almost all--or even all--of the rest of coaches next year, so it really doesn't matter what he did.

i like the scheme of one on one....it seems it was schemed to get duke one on one...he doesnt beat it though. he had a decent game but lbs can cover him. safteys can cover him... he isnt the 4.3 guy we think he is

Simplified is the word. Very few long, developing plays. That's what we need IMO>

I think Fred Kitchens will be a head coach in 3 years. He did a lot better than Hue or Haley ever did. He did it with not good players too!

I don’t see it happening, but if we hire a college coach, they would be smart to keep Kitchens around. His NFL experience would be helpful to a college coach that is unfamiliar with the league and his prior work with Mayfield would be a way to keep some continuity.

I don't know about being an HC, but he seemed to take what the D would give him and make adjustments. We moved the ball, got first downs, ran the ball, used Duke, etc. Didn't try and get cute and cocky by doing things that warranted playing the Benny Hill theme...and that's a step up from what we've been seeing.

I’m kinda hoping that this may be the first time a total coaching staff overhaul doesn’t happen. But you’re probably correct.

haha i know that was very odd ... then i was more worried when perriman decided to go OUT OF BOUNDS instead of just take a hit for the first

Thought Kitchens called a good game.

Can't imagine how Gordon might have helped...but we'll never know...kind of wondering if he was sent packing as collateral damage from the Hue/Haley feud...Patriots are thanking us big time!

it was not that many points against a bad defense so I would not get excited yet. The team is missing some weapons and better blocking though. It doesn't matter who calls the plays when you don't have the talent to execute what is called.

It wasn't as bad as I feared it was going to be and I think we have Higgins to thank for part of that. He is a target that Mayfield seems to like a lot.

I keep thinking about that too. Our O would look MUCH better with a Gordon-type talent/skill set

I have thought about this also. I wonder if there was an issue between Haley and Gordon that caused Gordon to want out of Cleveland. Or possibly Gordon was part of the conflict between Hue and Haley (or all of the above). I guess someday, someone will tell the story.

Yeah I hated trading Gordan away for pocket change. Tom is happy though. He loves having a WR that can put up over a hundred yards and make DBs bounce off of him.

Just sickening.

Josh probably behaved that way just to get free of this team.

Well, for as little time as we had, we looked better run and pass. I propose we do the same thing this week. We have tackling practice all week until it improves. Because the gouges on our D are horrific.

This is about the fourth time this has been suggested, but anyone who watched Hard Knocks knows that Hue and Gordon had a good relationship and it was Dorsey and the assistant coaches who looked like they were sucking a sour pickle when Hue mentioned Gordon.

Yeah, remember when Hue was like "he's here!" ... and Haley was just like "is he in shape"

I think Kitchens called a fairly good game.

Just need more execution from the 11 players on the field, including Baker.

It was something like: "The Eagle has landed." Hue was all excited. The offensive coaches sat around the table and didn't even raise their heads or change their dour looks.

There was another one when Hue was meeting w/Dorsey and Gordon sent Hue a text about returning and Hue relayed it to Dorsey and the latter was like "whatever..."

I know most everyone hated Hue and somehow most will blame him for the Gordon trade and they'll say it enough that it will become "fact" on this message board, but I think that is very far from the actual truth.

I actually agree. I think Hue was JG's biggest advocate

No one doubted his playing ability.

We doubted his ability to stay clean
We doubted his ability to show up to meetings on time
We doubted his ability to show up to meetings sober
We doubted his ability to pay attention in meetings
We doubted his ability to learn the playbook
We doubted his ability to listen to the coaches
We doubted his ability to give a full effort on the field
We doubted his ability to give a 75% effort on the field
We doubted his ability to give a damn

Sometimes people see what they want to see. Like I've always said, those kind of plays seem fine when the players execute them. When they don't people call them crazy play calls.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
