The talent affects that play-calling. The play-calling must mask weaknesses and promote strengths.
I agree wholeheartedly with this statement. And that is my issue with the play-calling these past few years. It doesn't seem like they were doing that. Last year we had a rookie Qb who was floundering, yet vs the Jags we passed the ball 32 times and ran it 13 (not counting Kiser's runs as most of those were probably scrambles). The score was 10-7 at the half. Against the Vikings we passed 34 times and ran 17. We averaged over 5.5 yards/carry. I don't know if we were doing much better at that this year. Seems like these play callers are saying "Here is my offense. THis is what we are running" Regardless of the players abilities.

lso is clear the Baker is actually an hindrance with his lack of accuracy outside the pocket, than he is a plus to the offense within the pocket.
This is the most absurd comment I ever read.

I have this to say about Haley's play calling.
Nick Chubb set an NFL record for getting over 100 yards, and two touchdowns, in only three carries. Do you know WHY that was an NFL record? Because, in the entire history of the NFL, anytime a back gained over 100 yards, and two touchdowns, in just three carries, the offensive geniuses in charge, kept giving him the ball!
Kitchens actually went to his rookie FQB hopeful and asked him which plays he felt comfortable with, and which ones not. First game all year without a single three and out.
Hopefully, this continues and improves.

He said that he wanted to play some wishbone ...... and today we did. This was the best designed gameplan I have seen in a long time. I said that I liked Kitchens.

I loved 90% of what he did, but when we were up 18 he took his feet off the gas. Luckily our Defense came up big but why let them back in the game when they haven't been able to stop us all day? Good teams keep going there and make it 35-10 and leave no doubt. Baby steps tho, I am pleased today!

there's zero advantages in firing a HC mid season.
Not sure this comment is going to age well. Clearly the team looked different. Looked better.

They might go on to lose the rest of their games this season.
But no-one will convince me that the team would have played as well or that Baker would have been 17-20 and Chubb would have had 176 yards had Haley and Hue still been here.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

I liked the 3 RB wrinkle, but we got too cute one time
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Paid off today. Not sure that TT, Huey, and our former OC would have equalled this game or surpassed it. hats oof to Kitchen and Williams. I genuinely enjoyed watching is succeed as it played out. Some other teams will have some work to break this down. We managed to look solid. mayfield was locked down tight today.
They made me cheer today.

Love that Freddie is allowing his offense to chime in on what type of plays to run.

Love that Freddie is allowing his offense to chime in on what type of plays to run. Yeah, I like the fact that he has allowed players to let him know what they are comfortable, and uncomfortable, with. I think it has really shown since he took over the play-calling.

It wasn't a big run, but when Duke tossed it to Chubb as he was going down it reminded me of that scene in The Patriot where the preacher gets shot and as he falls he tosses his rifle up to Heath Ledger LOL

Head Coach Freddie Kitchens? Does Gregg know about this?

Very impressed by Kitchens' play calling today that has to be the best play calling all season. Except for the two times he tried to get cute in the first half.. it was excellent play calling and excellent execution... Kitchens now has 2 games under his belt.. just like when Mayfield became the starter, teams are getting more film on him and his tendencies.. he's going to have to adapt and change to stay ahead of defenses... But it's been fun to watch so far.

I have been in my usual mid-season slide into hopelessness with the injuries heaped on top of the coaching turmoil. But, I saw glimmers of hope last week and of course, we get a much-needed win this week.
This is my take on Kitchens for what it's worth. Although he understands that the Haley playbook shouldn't be and can't be scrapped in mid-season he isn't married to it in the same way that Haley was. I think (don't know but think, Haley was a dictator). You do things the way he designed it, your input as a player is not sought, do your job and keep your mouth shut.
Kitchens isn't wired that way. He realizes that he has to work within the confines of the playbook and the terminology but he has no hesitation to adjustments. So he seeks input from the players about their strengths and finds ways within the offense to emphasize what the players are comfortable doing. He realizes that he must shore up pass pro and addresses it through formation without overhauling plays completely. He's doing that in the meeting rooms with the different position groups in collaboration with the players and the position coaches. I don't think Todd Haley worked fluidly with his staff in that way.

I have heard that we are working on the single wing, the double wing, and the power I, when the team returns after the bye. lol

Coaching is all about using your strengths vs an opponents weaknesses. Hue NEVER did this.
Maybe this is how it had to play out so Jimmy could see how a football franchise is run and how the game is actually played.

Honestly, he should be kept next year imo. I am not saying he shouldn't - but we played two games against 2 bad D's .... there is no need to rush to a decision. Let's see what happens from here out. I love what I see so far - but who knows how this plays out. Let's watch and enjoy.

two games against 2 bad D's .... there is no need to rush to a decision. Let's see what happens from here out. So, I saw a few folks say this, so I went and looked at the scores given up by ATL in past weeks.... yeah, they are bad defensively, and any decent defense they run into seems to readily stifle their offense. I'm not basing this on yardage or anything, purely on scores. Pittsburgh silenced their offense as badly as we did, but hung 41 points on them. At this point, through Week 10, this is who they are: an average offense that can explode against weaker opponents and a really weak defense. That doesn't mean that this isn't a quality win - because definitely it is - but it does mean that tempering ourselves at this point is definitely a solid plan. There WILL be bumps in the road ahead, so for now just sit and enjoy. I love what I see so far - but who knows how this plays out. Let's watch and enjoy. Ditto.
Browns is the Browns

Cincy's defense is awful as well... should be a good game in 2 weeks, although the Cincy offense is struggling, perhaps in part to a few injuries.
Perhaps we will assist in the Bengals finally kicking Marvin to the curb?
Never would have though Harbaugh would be fired before Marvin Lewis....
