DA made it. Dorsey was terminated.
Unck on IR, so he is out for the year.
Hamilton not making it is a bit of a surprise.
Neither drafted DE (Purcell or Pittman) made it.
Dinkins gets to nod over Krause.
No HUGE surprises, but some that make me go hmmm.

beat me to it by a minute. Some Surprises. Thought Dorsey was gonna stick. Looks as if Anderson is gonna be on the roster. Yuck and more Yuck.

Too bad for Jason Short. I was rooting for him being a local kid and all. Sorry about Dorsey too. I was hoping he would stick around. A few draft picks and a few that make me wonder.

I am only moderating surprised by the Krause and Hamilton cuts. I have been saying that Anderson would get the nod over Dorsey.
No mention of Gary Baxter. The team must think he is close...

McGinest and Baxter both make it. Perry as well.
We have 3QB's - 3RB's - 2FB's - 3TE's - 5WR - 9OL - 3ST - 6DL - 9LB's - 7CB - 3S
Of course this will most likely change as players come back (Tucker, Baxter, McGinest - if they can).

more than a few suprises for me...
Minter is suprising, i know he was injured, but the brain trust did think pretty highly of him. Hopefully we can sneak him on the practice squad
Dorsey obviously suprsise me, they must see some upside in anderson possibly in trade value, maybe a 7th rounder? meh. If that happens, we could always deal him and resign dorsey if no one grabs him.
Hamilton was a huge suprise to me, I thought he played very well last year and before the injury this year, played well again. Not sure, but i don't think he is practice squad eligible. i guess what this also means is they are comfortable with Brandon McDonald as an extra db and backup safety.
Short getting waived is also kind of suprising, albeit the injury. He was a mason unck type guy, (who was teh heart of our special teams), with unck out, i figured short would step up. Who will be our new ace?
Final thoughts, i think there were 6 rookies between this year and last year that got axed... some will say savage drafted scrubs, but to me this means our depth is getting better, Most late round guys shouldn't be making your 53 man squad, so this looks good for the future.

Actually, I'm surprised by more than a few. I pretty much had the entire back of the roster wrong in my mind. Guess I like keeping more young guys back there to groom rather than maxed out players, but we'll see how it goes... Hopefully, I'm wrong.

Hamilton being waived made me gasp a bit. Dorsey and Krause were also a bit surprising, but someone had to go. I know late round guys are a crapshoot to make the roster, but it's a little sad to see three of them not make at all.

A few surprises, to me, on the list. I wish Dorsey hadn't been cut. I would rather have cut Jereme Perry and keep 4 QBs for a few weeks than cut Dorsey, but oh well. Hopefully they kept the best 53 football players.

A few more things as I look at this... I'm shocked that they kept 2 FBs on the squad. In an offense largely based on the TE, I figured they'd keep at 4 there and then have Dinkins prepped as a FB if needed. I'm a little intrigued as to why they put RB Jerome Jackson on IR so early, but didn't want to pay to keep injured players there for the year like Hamilton, Parker, or Short. Is Jerome Jackson really that big of a deal, or showed so much in OTAs that he deserved an injured reserve spot over some of the others there. I'm trying to wrap my mind around that and why they simply didn't buy him out if it were an issue...

i'm really surprised at purcell being cut, probably a practice squad add later, he was one of the bright dlineman i saw, i say give him a year to add about 15-20 lbs and he might turn out to be a good pickup. I knew hamilton and minter were probably gone, neither showed anything this preseason other than the propensity to act as a speed bump for WR's. Not keeping hamilton makes me wonder what they have in store for Gbax, probably move to safety. I really don't like keeping anderson over dorsey, i understand phil drafted anderson and all, but damn, the 3rd QB is a novelty anyways, why not keep the vet because of his rapport with BQ and his knowledge first hand of Chuds O

Really sad in a way to see Barclay go,,, The kid is exciting to watch..
Cutting some of our late round picks from this year and last year makes me think that the Browns are better towards the bottom of the roster. Depending on your outlook, I would think thats a positive..
Still, I liked what little I saw of Pittman, Purcell and Cliff Lewis.
Some of these guys will end up on our PS,,, but which ones..
The shocker for me was Dorsey. Man, so many of us read that totally wrong,, me included..WOW.. I"ve been wrong before, but never that far off... YIKES

I think this is it.
QB – Frye, Quinn, Anderson RB – Lewis, Wright, Harrison FB – Vickers, Ali WR – Edwards, Jurevicius, Carter, Wilson, Cribbs TE – Winslow, Heiden, Dinkins OT – Thomas, Shaffer, Butler, Dorsey OG – Steinbach, McKinney, Friedman, Sowells, OC – Fraley
DE – Smith, Smith, Roye, Fraser NT – Washington, Kelly OLB – Wimbley, Peek, McGinest, Thompson, McMillian ILB – Davis, Jackson, Williams, Griffin CB – Bodden, Wright, Holly, Wright, McDonald, Baxter, Perry S – Jones, Pool, Adams
K – Dawson P – Zastudil LS – Pontbriand
Suspended - Tucker
A couple of comments
Baxter and McGinest must be closer to returning then we think. There is no way that Adams should have stuck over Hamilton Surprised Nat Dorsey is still on the team. A mild surprise that Purcell and Pittman did not make the roster.

Oh, one other thing - what's left of our defensive line scares me to death:
LE: Shaun Smith - Orpheous Roye NT: Ted Washington - Ethan Kelley RE: Robaire Smith - Simon Fraser
I liked Purcell, I hope he goes practice squad.

Shocking to see Chris Barclay cut, especially when I saw Jerome Harrison do very little to justify his stake on the roster.....I lost count of how many drops Harrison had in the preaseason......

Kenny Wright and Chris Perry over Minter and Hamilton...although Hamilton didn't have a good Pre-season at all.
Wish we could have kept Barclay...and I see the regulars who should make it to the Practice Squad. Purcell, Pittman and Steptoe
Griffin made it. He earned I thought.

Actually, this is it. You forgot David McMillan and the wonderful awesomeness that is Jereme Perry. Seriously, the guy must be a champ on special teams because he is a flat out joke at corner.

The Dorsey cut wasn't a big surprise here...I think the talk of him being a mentor to Quinn and having a grasp of the offense are things that aren't necessarily untrue, but perhaps picked up on a little too much by our board...blurbs in an article become truth around here.
Hamilton gone...Baxter at safety?
Cliff Louis to the practice squad I hope...big small school project...but what is Nat Dorsey really worth?
Clifton Smith...don't we seem to cut him every year?
Barclay should find life on our practice squad or somewhere else...

That's exactly what I was thinking. Adams is our only safety backup and Baxter would look wonderful mixing into packages at safety where the loss of speed from his injuries doesn't affect him too much.

Thanks.
The DL scares me with 6 players (Purcell and Pittman will be PS) 6 CB's.. that is a lot. 3 safties and 6 CB's. I think this means someone is switching.

That says either 2 things- our draft choices sucked, or our depth is much better.
I thought Dorsey would stick, but guess I was wrong. I was HOPING Barclay and Krause would, but I am sure Barclay can hit the PS. That is unless someone snatches him up.
Another guy I was rooting for was Clifton Smith as well as Griffin. Smith was cut, but Griffin held on. I am surprised that Hamilton was waived.
But I can't understand how some are surprised by Minter. The guy has been on the field like twice in 2 years. There are some other corners already on this team. We can maybe PS him and see how he progresses, but he's a waste of an active roster spot IMO.
And I guess we have our answer with Baxter.

Sorry pdawg - I know Hamilton was your boy. Kind of a shame that this happens on the Virginia Tech opener too.
EDIT: Can Hamilton be put on the practice squad? I would imagine not.

Just FYI.
McDonald has safety experience. Additionally, Perry was playing safety against the Bears, so his versatility most likely kept him on the active roster. When Baxter is back and can show he can hold up, Perry may be expendable unless he shows a lot more.

I just talked to his Mom and he was told that he wouldn't have been cut if he didn't get injured. They said he would be out 3-4 weeks but he thought he would be ready for the opener.

Dorsey, caught me by suprise for some reason, I was really expecting DA to be cut instead. I don't agree with Krause.. And, it may not seem like it but, Special Teams just ecountered a big blow with Unck out for year.

Surprised Nat Dorsey is still on the team.
Show him the door when Tuck comes back in week 5.
I'm sure Pittman, Purcell, and Steptoe will hit the PS.
Nothing too surprising aside from the Dorsey/Anderson thing, but that was kind of feel-good anyways. I wish Short would've found a spot, but oh well.

I'm unhappy with Dinkins over Krause......I guess I'm looking for playmakers where Dinkins is more of a blocking TE, which I assume is what they wanted to keep.
The guys I wanted to stick who were cut, in order- Dorsey, Barclay, Krause, Hamilton, Cl. Smith, Purcell.

Really disappointed over Savage's late draft picks which was something B-more excelled at.
Perkins - Cut Wilson - made team, almost cut Purcell - Cut Steptoe - Cut Pittman - Cut Minter - Cut Oshinowo - Cut Hamilton - Cut Sowells - made team, almost cut Speegle - Cut Hoffman - Cut Dunn - Cut
still hit on Leon Williams, Frye, McMillian, Vickers, Harrison
To me, that is not good production late in the draft...that's what is separating us from being 6-10 and possibly 9-7
I'm coming home, I'm coming home, tell the world I'm coming home

I count 54 players on the depth chart. Someone has gotta go. Baxter and / or Willie McG on the IR/PUP list? Will Bentley wind up on IR for the year? When Tucker returns will Dorsey be cut? Many of the younger guys that were waived will be on the PS. There will still be some more roster moves made on the bottom end of our roster. Phil may yet pick up a player or two off waivers and someone on the current roster ( as of now) waived. The roster is not chisled in stone.

I wouldn't be too sure that we don't pick up another QB and then D.A. is in jeopardy again. Can you guess who comes to mind???.

Certainly not Leftwich.
I was surprised by the Hamilton cut. I really thought he would push Pool for the starting job.
Not surprised by Barclay's cut but I am disappointed.
Many of these guys will be on our practice squad. I hope Barclay, Pittman, Hamilton, Pittman and Matua get practice squaded (is that a word?).
I guess I disagree with keeping K wright but not surprised as the Browns seem to have been very high on him all pre-season. Don't really understand us keeping Perry. Guess RAC saw something in him i DIDN'T.
Am I perfect? No Am I trying to be a better person? Also no

Really hate to see Matua gone. But as I expected,DA is still here!
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
