You called him Gerard, though. wink

I also agree with your sentiment. He flashed in his rookie year and hopefully he gets better. Could be a stud.

After years of head shaking bizarre picks it sure is refreshing to look back at this past draft and say "damn if we can do this every year we will get where we all want to go."

Look back and see what most of us said about the draft picks at the time they were made.. I think most said " Damn never expected that.. Dorsey's blowing this Draft "

I was Okay but not excited about the Baker Pick... I Loved the Ward pick... I liked the Chubb pick and was okay with the Calloway pick... I believe I was okay with most of the picks because...I always trust the Guys in charge..because that's just what I do..

The Biggest thing about this up coming draft is that I believe more in the HC and his staff more then ever.. So the pick my not be exciting..But It may be a really good addition to the Team and if it helps get the Team to the Playoffs so be it...

He pantomimed pulling his ‘man parts’ out and exposing them to his coaches and teammates. He did it after throwing a TD. It was done on the sideline thankfully or it would have cost us 15 yards on top of his fine.

MKC is all over this story apparently. Must have been feeling real dangerous.

Why would the fine be reduced so much?

No he pantomimed pulling his junk out.... according to his hand/arm gestures he’s quite comically well endowed.
It was in poor taste.
He got fined.
My hope is he learned the NFL has no problem taking his money from him and he knocks such antics off.

My guess is because it was his first such antic and because it was done on the sideline amongst his teammates and coaches. If he’d done it on the field my guess is he’d be $10,000 lighter today... and we’d had gotten a 15 yard penalty.

Fixed it for you.
At least how the NFL views it.

Me too.
He needs to knock it off or it will cost us, the Browns, down the road. An unnecessary, badly timed unsportsmanlike conduct penalty could cost us dearly. Baker needs to reign it in.

If Ezekiel Elliot doesn't get unsportsmanlike for taunting while he's doing the 'feed me' gesture WHILE WALKING TOWARD THE DEFENSIVE HUDDLE...I doubt Baker gets a penalty for what he does on the sideline in-front-of (and directed at) his own bench.

I never said he’d get penalized doing it on the sideline. I said he’d get penalized for doing such stuff on the field.
He’ll get fined either way.

My preference is for Baker to play it old school and avoid the antics...

BUT

If thats an integral part of who he is and what helps him be “in the game” then it doesn’t really bother me. As long as it doesn’t lead to penalties that hurt the team... don’t hurt the team.

Baker was very upfront about who he is during the draft process and we knew what we were getting. Anyone that has a serious problem with it should point their complaining towards Dorsey for drafting Baker.

It's kind of like real estate. Location, location, location. And I'm not talking about his location on the field.

Shame on him anyway. His mom is watching the game and the ladies at the Thursday night book club are going to mumble behind her back.

Do we really want our QB - or any other player - doing stuff like that?

I don't. I prefer adults to behave like adults in the public forum. I mean, guys do stupid, immature things until they die. I'm 51 and I do, but not in public. Keep it classy.

Sometime during the season I started a thread "Genard Avery".

It is still kind of strange that not much has been made of the season this former 5th rounder has had.

I was really excited about that pick... but it's understandable that folks are having a bit of "Baker Euphoria" for the moment.... we have a QB.... doesn't mean we don't understand all of the other really positive things that happened this season but... dude.... we have a QB. thumbsup

The QB always takes the stage first when he has success as a rookie.

Then we had a Pro Bowl rookie CB.

Then we had a RB who was one of the best in the games he started.

We also has a rookie WR who had ups and downs, but who ended the season on an up, and finished with almost 600 yards and 5 TD.

Genard Avery had a nice rookie season. He started to come on as a LB as the season progressed. He had 4.5 sacks and 3 TFL. Given that he only played limited snaps,(684 out of somewhere around 1100 total snaps) that's not bad at all. However, as noted, he gets lost behind the "big 3".

JMHO but I'll take a cocky opinionated immature balling out future Franchise QB who is like Baker vs. hunting for a QB or watching our team lose year in and year out for 20+ years...

I definitely lean more in this direction.

Would I prefer he not act like a... butt? Absolutely. If your only defense of a guy's actions is "but he's really good", well...

But let's have a little perspective. I read on the ESPN ticker in the airport yesterday that Hunt (former KC RB/hitter of women) was getting some interest from a couple teams.

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Baker has a passion for the game, a competitiveness that can not be denied. I would rather have Baker and his passion, than an equally talented Cutler and his blah attitude.

Ok so he didn't expose himself...just a Mime action of pretend. I know football players are proud of their junk and what it represents. So something away from the game.
No big deal he didn't do anything. thought he actually did something. Soon players will get fined for Thinking about something. He thought it, like God in THOUGHT and DEED will we have Refs now deciding that?

It seems as though some still misunderstand our quarterback...

Immature isn't the correct term to describe him.

I think players in a way are like politicians. You can support and back a politician without agreeing with all of their policies. Thinking his antics are a bad thing doesn't mean you don't support the player.

You draft a QB to be the face of your franchise. Not the face of a frat house.

Funny stuff ... clearly/highly probably scripted ... I have no issue with Baker and what he has done as a Brown. The stuff with Hue? Pfft. Not knowing anything on the root cause of it - but based on what I know of the two individuals and how genuine they are (or otherwise in Hue's case) I'll believe that Hue deserved the 'tude he got from Baker.

I loved the video. Really funny and shows Baker's sense of humor. Really hope he wins Offensive ROY. Definitely deserves it with the turnaround of the franchise from winless to 7 wins and pushing the division.

Ah, you see the NFL as a sport. And that's fine from a fan perspective. But that's not the way the NFL or the owners see it. Of course they want their QB to win games. That goes without saying. But the NFL is a major corporate entity, and each franchise is its own corporation.

If you honestly believe they don't feel the image of their corporation means anything to them, I believe you're wrong. Just look at the blow back from fans when a "very small percentage" of players kneeled for the National Anthem. You look at it as a fan. The owners see it as their business and a huge investment. The perception of that business means a lot to them.

So yes, a QB is drafted to be the face of the franchise.

Then Dorsey screwed the pooch,he should have drafted the All-American boy,Sam Darnold.
that is the face any franchise would want.

I don't make excuses for immature behavior. Hopefully Baker will just outfrow it. He still has time. Men are supposed to conduct themselves like men. At least in public while at work.

From Brady Quinn on down, we've drafted a number of guys who made wonderful "Face of the Franchise" models.. they were good looking, polite, said all the right things, and shook hands and walked off the field with perfect class and dignity after each and every loss.

Finally, we drafted a QB to be the leader of our football team... and if he performs at a high level and the players around him love him like they do... then I will comment on his "antics" on a case by case basis.

Winning games is all I care about anymore.
