Should we really be giving the Black Israelites national media during a shutdown? Obviously the story needs to be corrected, but does that mean we give these fools attention?

Help me out. I'm not following what the hebrew israelites has to do with a gov't. shut down.

The whole point is that there are more important things to focus on than 5 crazy dudes that incited a standoff. Correct the story, but I'm not sure this story needs or deserves more time in the national spotlight.

This is like a Mad Lib story for the American press and the internet, they take those facts and just fill in the blanks based on what they assume probably happened. The fact that they got it pretty much completely wrong is irrelevant, the story has already fueled the fire for many... it served it purpose. Correcting or getting the actual facts out will matter very little to most. The hatred has been stoked, the enemy more clearly defined.

I typically disconnect on the weekend, but this came to me via push notification. I knew the leftist on this board were going to just be gleeful about this situation and I was not wrong. White and male in a confrontation with a POC = immediately a white supremacist. Then after it was shown with some more context, it appears to more like a gown man agitating a group of teenage boys.

Then it gets better when they try to bring up a blackout game, where they painted their entire bodies black.....when their school colors are black, to try and spin another white supremacist narrative. Black body paint if you're white = white supremacy now. Despite the fact that is was in 2013 and has absolutely NOTHING to do with kids in the school currently. It is genuinely impressive the level of cope and mental gymnastics you have to come up with other than to just say, "well there was more to that video that originally shown, maybe this narrative was inaccurate".


But they are white, young, male and don't cosign your approved political ideology so they must be doxed, outcast, punched and expelled from school for being rowdy young boys. I actually thought they showed good restraint, as a young man full of testosterone, a grown man beating a drum in my face would have absolutely been enough disrespect for me to punch him right in his face. Maybe their "privilege" afforded them self control that my poverty did not, I dunno.

Yeah, the school sounds horrible. Just read what alumni and others have posted on social media.

At basketball games they routinely mock black players, asking where their fathers are, doing black face, etc.

I have a few friends and family members who grew up or live in that area. I'm going to be reaching out to them in the near future and ask what their experiences have been.

Well, I'm always and will always be highly critical of human interest pieces. However, maybe the kids deserved the attention they got for the way that they were acting. I'm not sure what changed in the narrative from the original day. Philips even said the kids were being verbally attacked by the 5 black israelites.

But the point being was that I'm not sure the media needs to give hours of coverage on black israelites just because they trolled a bunch of white kids into acting like fools in the capitol.

Although, I do have to apologize to the Cov kids. The ones towards the back did not say, "Build a wall!" they said "Get Jamal" after the Israelites said they had no minorities in their group. They then told Jamal that the white kids would harvest his organs and ask if he's ever seen Get Out.

I think its hilarious that you want hold kids to a higher standard than the adults who were confronting them simply for waiting their bus.

You realize, they were walked up on, not the other way around. The ones acting a fool were the natives and the hate group throwing out gay and racial slurs at them.

It's not that I want to hold the kids to a higher standard, it's just that I hold Black Israelites to a very low standard. You ever see them in Philly? Most vanity preachers (street or televangelists) are disgusting people, but the overt hate they preach is just horrible. You can't even street shop in Philly no more because they're so loud and obnoxious. So yes, I'm hoping that 40 kids and their chaperones can walk away from 5 crazy people. Maybe I'm an elitist, but I don't think that people should act below themselves. We cannot all communicate at the level of our lowest common denominator. Again, I'm not trying to hold the kids to a higher standard, I'm just trying to hold them to a standard, but mainly not even them. There parents and chaperones were no good in this situation.

Instead the chaperones allowed the kids to start rioting. Did you watch any of the videos? What's there response to the insults? For a guy to take off his shirt and lead a haka dance they do at football games. The situation was starting to boil over and then Philips came to the rescue. Him and his group marched between the two factions, singing their song of peace while trying to make the group disperse from the immediate area. Even in the most primitive of pack animals know that proximity never helps resolve conflict within a group.

Actually the Native did a great job at dispersing the crowd and cooling the situation. Of course the little craphead stepped up to him and sneered at him until his bus arrived. But for the most part, the guy got everyone to cool off the tensions. We have videos of a bunch of white kids trying to rave to a Native American song of peace. It could've been worse. We could have a video of 40 white kids attacking 5 crazy black jewish people. As far as I'm concerned, the situation could've been much worse without Philips.

Others in the native crowd can be heard telling the boys that they need to "go back to Europe" and nothing they say is important because they are white. Or he ask the kids "we have a demonstration and you come here and do this?" The kids ask "do what" and he replies, "you being white that's all you have to do" - That's from the native group.

The kid that smiled show great restraint for not doing so. He was calm and collective. You see an arrogant smirk, I see a kid scared a grown man is in his face and a nervous smile of pure emotion and adrenaline come out.

A lot of crow should be eaten here today. These kids didn't do anything of which they've been accused. As for this peters guy, he's a proven liar. If he's a 64 year old nam vet, that would make him 13 during Tet, and 18 by the end of the war. The USMC was out of nam in 72, and the war ended in 73. Liar.

This is mainly false. You can see Phillips walks through the crowd and the kid steps up to him around 1:09:13 into the video, which I have watched multiple times. The kid refuses to move and stares down the elderly man.

As for the other point, there aren't multiple people. There's one guy who gets into an argument with a student. The student tells them to "leave America" at which point the native tells the student exactly what you said, "go back to Europe", including telling the kid that his family has only been here for two or three generations and that his has been here for thousands of years.

I'm not sure if you're trying to lie or accidentally confused the two Native Americans. The one who played the drums and sang his song of peace, only did that. He never told anyone to go back to Europe. I'm also a little disappointed that you believe violence is the answer in this solution.

I don't see just one kid with an arrogant smirk on his face trying to goad a fight. I see thirty kids with arrogant smirks on their face. Goading an old man into trying to fight. You can even hear the Convington kids warn each other not to touch him. They know they can't make the first physical move. That's why they would rather mock his song and do football chants. Typical punk move. You can even see a small group of them earlier in the day verbal accost other protectors outside of this one hour time frame.

All in all, I think we failed these children. Political discourse has turned into a blood sport. These kids came to DC prepared to attack anyone and everyone who disagrees with them. That's not on them. These are learned behaviors and they're teenagers.

So, let me see if I have this right:

The media reports on, and shows 30 second clips, of white Catholic students (wearing MAGA hats, mind you. Insinuating they all or mostly were wearing those) berating and belittling a Native American, Vietnam vet, while surrounding him, yelling 'build the wall'.

But then we find out the students didn't go to him. He went to them.

And then we find out the hebrew israelits spent almost an hour harrassing the kids, shouting terrible, vulgar things, including the n word, and coon, and much worse.....

And finally, we see that the whole damn story was..........what's that term people on here like to use? Oh, yeah, a 'dog whistle'.

And now, the guy that made what appears to be a false claim about some college party in Michigan, is found to be NOT a Vietnam vet?

Media. Hell, they can't even get the weather right.

It's a deliberate tactic. No one will care about the truth if it comes out days after the outrage. Very few if any in the media will even acknowledge that they jumped the gun much less purposefully misled.

They will move on to the next outrage before being reached for comment.

FWIW- MSNBC corrected it's reporting on this two days ago. AND I'm probably one of the most far left on here and I watched the video Arch brought up and I already stated my belief that they should get at least a partial pass.

I think this event will certainly be a milestone in Trump's presidency. Not a good one either. i just hope we don't see even more hate crimes committed. Trump already has a pandemic on his hands. It makes me sick to watch him celebrate it each time it happens.
