Thought this was interesting. Tend to agree on all counts. Not saying he's not a great talent, just don't think he's worth the premium. JADEVEON CLOWNEY – SELL There are three big reasons why Clowney is a ‘sell.’ The first is that he’s going to, rightly, ask to set the market. He was one of the most-hyped edge defenders of all time coming out of college and has made the last three pro bowls after being the number one overall pick.
The second is that he’s already had surgeries on both knees including the dreaded microfracture surgery on his right knee. While it’s been a few years since and he hasn’t had them flare up, it’s never the same knee as it was before.
The last – and by far the biggest – is that Clowney has not rushed the passer at an elite level. His 78.8 pass-rushing grade this past season was the highest of his career. While that was a career high, the uptick in his production hasn’t necessarily come from development as a pass-rusher. The Texans have simply gotten more creative and given him more opportunities to rush inside, where he was actually more productive than outside.
HERE WE GO BROWNIES! HERE WE GO!!

I wouldn't mind Justin Houston if the Chiefs cut him. It's probably time we get a good veteran presence on our line and in our defense.

I like Justin Houston. He gets injured a bit too much, but he can play. He can be ferocious when chasing the qb.

Draft an edge in the 3rd, let Justin show them how to work during the week. It's a shame the Broncos decided to contend, I was hoping we could float an offer for Von Miller. There's always next year.

I like Frank Clark from what I've seen
"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Your thoughts on Frank Clark? I haven't watched a ton of him, but he's a good pass rusher and can defend the run. He's going to be expensive. PFF said he will be the 4th highest paid FA. I don't know about that, but he'll still be expensive. He also has been arrested for an altercation he had w/his girlfriend. I think that there is a good chance that Seattle franchises him. If not, I really can't say how much he is worth because I haven't watched enough of him.

they did not - wrong verb tense. I believe they will franchise him, however.
In fact, i think most of the top defensive FAs will be franchised (ie. Lawrence, Jarrett, Clowney, Clark, Ford). Can't see those teams letting them go.
I like Trey Flowers from NE.

He's on my list of DE's along with Clowney, Lawrence, Ford
But what makes us the leading candidate to land Clark?
Just speculation cause he has a troubled past and to the Sports Journalists I guess they think that is who we target. Or for the fact he comes from this area in his High School playing days. I guess that didn't bother him going to play for Michigan...lol
I have also read we are in the running for Clowney.
I guess we will see.

I don't think the reporters are asking the players where they want to play next year. I do agree w you though. We can see us becoming more of a destination. And the Isle as well.

Yes this is a new ERA with the Browns. Mayfield really has a following from the players in the NFL and respect. It has changed our entire perception. We now are a team that is said to be the place to be.
from coaches to FA's no longer will we be denied with the best contract and move on to others in the league. Every year we had that scenario...even though the Browns offer was the highest, said FA went to so n so.
Only those who grew up with Love for the Browns like Bentley chose us.

So, enough gas in the tank for him to help us or not? Not a premium price for best pass rusher it seems.

i agree EO ... this is going to be a new situation for us, where we might be a preferred destination

Yeah, I'm not too sure we need him, but he would do Jaime's role, who was already a possible cap casualty. I think we need an edge or a DT more, but we do have money to spend this year. And with all the contracts we'll have in 4-5 years, we're kind of like a ticking time bomb in terms of money we'll have to spend. So we either have to spend it or burn it this year. I would love to trade for someone, but all the prices are still high. I don't want to give up more than a 3rd round and some day 3s. Landry was a great trade deal, hoping we can find value similar to that.

From The Athletic's Free Agency piece on Anthony Barr...
Barr has just one forced fumble and no interceptions in the past two seasons and has just six sacks in the past three seasons.

I don't think we will sign Barr and I am not suggesting we should, but man, using stats like that is such a limited view and it tells me that someone hasn't watched the guy play.

Sure.
I really have Grady Jarrett as a guy who would fit what the Browns need. I just don't think he will be available.
I also like DeMarcus Lawrence to play opposite of Myles. He'll be extremely expensive if he hits the market, but he might be worth the price.
I think Trey Flowers would be a good match w/the Browns and perhaps a more realistic signing. He can be moved around. He's not a dominant pass rusher, but he can play both inside and outside. That versatility is very valuable.
Dee Ford is interesting because of his talent and the KC connection, but I read where the Chiefs are going to franchise him.
I don't really like any of the FA WRs very much. I think we'll draft someone.
We don't need a RB, so Bell is out of the equation.
What are your thoughts on those guys or others?

I completely agree on Grady Jarrett and DeMarcus Lawrence. They're A1 signings.
Jarrett is the guy I really want. He perfectly fits what we need, as you mention, and he'd be an astounding addition when paired up with Larry Ogunjobi.
I'm not as hot for DeMarcus Lawrence. He's an incredible talent, but he's going to get paid too much. It'd either cost us Garrett, or cost us any hope of keeping talent around Garrett and Lawrence. An open market pass rusher will be a price to steep, in my opinion.
With that said, I'm not against the move. One of the reasons I was critical of the Bears trading for Mack was that cost. As we saw, the result was phenomenal, but they don't have enough team around him and they're going to keep falling short when it matters - particularly with Trubisky at QB, who had decent numbers but I felt wasn't very impressive.
We, on the other hand, have a damn fine QB and a more complete team. So I'm not against spending big and using the next 3-4 years as a serious run at winning championships.
Agreed that Dee Ford will likely be franchised, but I've also seen it said that Justin Houston may be on the trade block. That could get Dorsey's attention. Personally, I wouldn't make that move, but Dorsey knows best.
As for Trey Flowers, I personally don't see him as a huge upgrade over Ogbah that would warrant the additional spending.
For mine, Jarrett is the only high-value signing I'd like to see made.

My thoughts : I'm all in on Grady Jarrett.... want him badly and would be my first priority CJ Mosely...plays the run well and is decent in coverage KJ Wright....very good run stopping LB, high football IQ and can cover. Ndamong Suh....inside disruptor with a nasty edge...effort level not always consistent. Very durable. Frank Clark... can get to the qb from the edge and sets the edge well... Dee Ford...would demand more money than I'd be willing to pay

I know there's whirls about Philly might have to dump Timmy Jernigan, because of his 11 cap number, and him being injured all year. I haven't really seen him play once he left Baltimore, But he was a force as he was quick and powerful. But I honestly haven't seen him play but a game or two since...anyone know anything more with him? I know he probably won't get a long term deal, coming off back surgery.. I'd be interested in him especially if he's looking for a prove it deal!

Ugh. He was my top choice to be our kicker next year. Although the Jets Kicker Jason Myers is a free agent and so is Gostkowski. I just have very very little confidence in Greg Joesph. Wish him the best, but every field goal seemed to go in just barely, and we didn't have any confidence in him kicking from deep

Which positions has Dorsey shown a proclivity to sign in FA before?
