More on the Giants... LINK

"(Tate's) a good player and he deserves to be paid like one, but the signing is still confusing. After trading away Beckham, it certainly looked like the Giants wanted to rebuild. Signing a 30-year-old receiver to a four-year deal signals the opposite approach. Furthermore, while the Giants needed a receiver, they did not need a slot receiver when their only decent receiver, Sterling Shepard, already operates primarily out of the slot."

Just in case the tweet doesn't appear..."Per @PFF, Golden Tate played 70% of his snaps from the slot last year in Detroit, 77% in Philadelphia. Sterling Shepard led all Giants receivers with a 58% slot rate in 2018." Tweeter

That’s the one who couldn’t wait to get inaugurated so she could start signing bills? Didn’t understand the job she ran for. It’s not always cute when kids sit at the grown up table.

Explain how to implode a team? Watch the Giants.

The cliff notes version and jokes aside...

If you can't sign "your own" free agents to new contracts teams receive compensatory picks based on their market value, in other words how much they sign for to another team...

You can cancel out the compensatory pick by signing someone else's free agent.

Players released by teams do not count against compensatory picks. In other words if you sign a released player, you'd still get your compensatory picks.

The Giants were getting a comp pick for not resigning Landon Collins only to be cancelled by them signing Golden Tate. They could have signed a guy like Jordy Nelson and still gotten their comp pick because he was released.

There's more to it, but that's the gist. If i'm wrong, someone will correct me.

Just to add, the claim is trading away OBJ the Giants are in rebuild mode. They were set to receive a comp pick for Collins. Signing 31 yr old slot receiver Golden Tate to a sizable contract negated the comp pick. Rebuilding teams don't do that. In other words the Giants are a hot mess.

The Golden Tate thing makes 0 sense. Was it a knee jerk reaction to the backlash over trading Odell? Did some homeless guy talk Gettleman into it?

We might be done in free agency and I would be perfectly fine w/that. If we do go after anyone else, here are the guys I would consider.

Eric Berry, former safety for KC. He was a great player. Had a huge year after beating cancer. Has been injured a lot since then. If he is healthy, he would be a huge addition. That's basically it because I don't think he will be too expensive. It's just about his health.

Bryce Callahan, former CB for Bears. He's 27 and has good numbers playing against slot receivers. According to PFF, opposing qbs struggled against Callahan when they targeted him.

I think we still need help in the secondary and these are two guys that may help us w/out being overly expensive.

That or a knee jerk reaction to tendering Corey Coleman.

I would concur that adding Berry would be awesome. He has been injury prone, but I do think we have a decent guy, Derrick Kindred, who can give Berry a rest now and again. I'm probably on an island, but I like what Kindred brought more than Peppers. It was only 2 seasons ago that Kindred led the league in tackles behind the line of scrimmage for a DB (before he got hurt).

However, Berry might come fairly "fresh" because he hasn't played much since 2016. I know there's a thread dedicated to him, but I expect us to sign him and obviously for less than Thomas... perhaps even a 1 year deal.

I actually liked kindred better than Peppers.

Realistically, I think we would be fine with Kindred. He's somewhat injury prone as well, however. Maybe he and Berry could make a fine duo there?

PFF FREE AGENCY DEAL GRADER

BLUE = Elite
DARK GREEN = Very Good
LIGHT GREEN = Above Average
YELLOW = Average
ORANGE = Below Average
RED = Poor

Browns sign DI Sheldon Richardson to a three-year, $39M deal, $21.5M guaranteed
Sheldon Richardson may forever tease even greater potential than the production he has shown in his career, but he will be consistently productive and add significant pressure to the interior of the Browns’ defense. He has averaged 47 total pressures over his career, which would have been second on the Browns in 2018, and he now gives Cleveland one of the meanest looking front-fours in the game. — @PFF_Sam

Browns sign TE Demetrius Harris to a two-year, $6M deal, $3.25M guaranteed
The Browns signed Harris to play the same role that he did in Kansas City by complementing fellow tight end David Njoku similarly to how he did with Travis Kelce with the Chiefs. Harris was one of the best run-blocking tight ends in the NFL last season as his run-blocking grade of 72.0 ranked ninth at the position. While he is not really a true receiving threat, he could become a decent red-zone target for Baker Mayfield as his three receiving touchdowns in the red zone were tied for 11th most among tight ends last season. — @PFF_Zoltan

Browns sign LB Adarius Taylor to a two-year, $5M deal, $2.55M guaranteed
It’s not a huge deal, but Taylor struggled on defense in 2018. He saw a career-high 634 snaps but produced a PFF run-defense grade of just 40.9 and a PFF coverage of 49.5. He was solid on special teams though, registering three tackles and missing none. — @PFF_Gordon

Could be as simple as he views himself as being able to have a larger role, which he will NOT get here unless someone gets injured. We also might have viewed his abilities as easily replaceable by a draft prospect. Let's face it, he was a decent player, but he wasn't great. He has a skillset, but once he gets into a situation outside of that, he gets abused pretty easily. That's not a real knock on him; it just points out that he's pretty run-of-the-mill as far as lower-tier CB's go.

Well the grown ups have been trying for decades and they've pretty much sucked at it too. Couldn't get any worse.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

CB Phillip Gaines re-signs with Browns. Phillip, not EJ. (Why do I not remember this guy?)
