I think that pretty much sums it up. There is no need to get all bent out of shape until the whole story comes out.

According to reports, Bodden was arrested at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport on two traffic charges and two misdemeanors, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest, after a verbal confrontation with police officers.

Was Bodden wrong in what he did? Yes, definitely. He'll get whatever punishment comes his way, and he'll deserve it. However, I don't see it being a big punishment (if one is levied at all) for a first incident that is only 2 misdemeanors. Hell, there's probably people on this board with more than that.

He has to face the consequences, but I have a feeling the consequences won't be very harsh (and I don't think they should be for a "small" incident like this).

Well, let's face it.....even though they go to college quite a few football players are less than rocket scientists. He very well could have put his brain in "stupid gear" for a few moments. I can't say I haven't been tempted to tell a cop to stick it in the past. Difference is, I didn't do it.

I'm also tempted to give him some wiggle room because this was at the Airport. I know that the people there have no sense of humor. And sometimes very little common sense. Way back before 9/11 I pulled up to the loading/unloading zone at National Airport in DC. I hopped out of my car to run in quickly to see if the person I was picking up had landed yet. (This was before cell phones...I know...I'm ancient). There was a cop at the curb. I asked if it was OK if I left my car there for 30 seconds. He said yes. I went in literally for 30 seconds and when I came out he was writing me a ticket. I was pissed. I asked why he was writing the ticket when he had said it was OK to leave my car there. He said that he never said he wouldn't write me a ticket. Just that I could leave my car there. Was he technically correct? Yes. Was he an ahole? Yep. As I pulled away he just laughed.

So based on Bodden's past history (and mine, I guess) I'll wait until I hear both sides before I put Bodden in the Pacman Jones mold.

Browns' Bodden expects to play in opener following arrest
By TOM WITHERS, AP Sports Writer
September 6, 2007

Cleveland Browns defensive back Leigh Bodden stretches before a team practice in Berea, Ohio Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007. Bodden was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after a traffic incident Wednesday night, Sept. 5, 2007, at Cleveland Hopkins Airport. He pleaded not guilty and was released early Thursday on a $1,000 bond.

BEREA, Ohio (AP) -- Browns cornerback Leigh Bodden, possibly facing discipline from the NFL following his arrest at a Cleveland airport, expects to play in Sunday's season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Bodden pleaded not guilty Thursday to misdemeanor charges of aggravated disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He was arrested a day earlier after police accused him of driving in reverse down a one-way street and becoming verbally abusive outside Hopkins International Airport, where he said he was picking up his family.

"You all know there are two sides to every story," Bodden said before Thursday's practice. "Right now I can't comment on my side. My attorney will handle that. It's unfortunate that this is a distraction before the Steelers game."

Bodden, who apologized to his coaches and teammates, said he's not concerned about any possible fine or suspension from the league, which has instituted a tougher player-conduct policy in the wake of commissioner Roger Goodell's crackdown on misbehavior by players.

"I'm not concerned about it at all," Bodden said. "The legal system will handle it. The league will handle it, and there's nothing I can do about it but play football, and that's what I'm going to do."

The NFL's conduct policy states that players can face disciplinary measures for offenses such as those Bodden is charged with. It says, "persons who fail to live up to this standard of conduct are guilty of conduct detrimental and subject to discipline, even where the conduct itself does not result in conviction of a crime."

Bodden, 25, refused to stop the 2004 GMC Yukon he was driving when initially approached by an officer at the airport, police Lt. Thomas Stacho said. According to police, Bodden eventually pulled the vehicle to a curb, got out and walked toward an airport entrance.

Bodden became verbally abusive with the officer, who called for police backup, Stacho said.

Responding officers instructed Bodden to place his hands on a wall, which he did, but the situation became tense when the football player began to resist officers trying to place handcuffs on him, Stacho said.

Bodden later complied with police and was taken to a city jail. He spent five hours in jail before he was released early Thursday on a $1,000 bond. He also faces traffic charges of failing to produce a driver's license and driving the wrong way on a one-way street, Stacho said.

Bodden's attorney, Matthew Selby, entered the not guilty plea, and his next court appearance was set for Sept. 25. The charges carry a sentence of up to six months in jail.

Browns coach Romeo Crennel, who called the incident "a little run in with the law," said he had not yet spoken with Bodden before his news conference. Crennel said he expects to have Bodden for Sunday's game and that he'll wait until he has all the facts before commenting further.

Bodden was limited to nine starts last season because of ankle problems and had offseason ankle surgery. He signed with the Browns as an undrafted free agent in 2003, and the club signed him to a four-year contract extension in 2005.

Associated Press writer M.R. Kropko contributed to this report.

BFsince79 and others,
Man, some of you guys should send me seven digits so I can win the lottery!! The reason I say this is because right now, NO ONE other than Bodden, The cop and Bodden's wife and kids know what really happened. You, ME or NO ONE on this board knows what was actually said between the two. I'm not saying the cop is wrong BUT I'm willing to wait until Bodden gives his say since he has not been a problem ALL his years here in Cleveland. Also, if anyone would actually read, he was picking up his wife and kids, and anyone with kids or picking up kids with the wife knows that can be an adventure by itself. SO I will atleast wait to hear his side of the story, or is it since he plays football, he is guilty??

I understand that....I still don't think it allows you to go opposite of traffic markers and park where you want to park.

But like you said.....maybe the cop is just making this stuff up

Yes it can. But if a cop tells you to move your car, to stop your car, etc you DO IT, period. I've been told many times to move on while picking up people at the airport. I just do it and drive back around. Or I wait for a phone call and then go get them. It isn't rocket science, just common sense.

You know, its quite possible that he wasn't aware of the officers first command, or did not understand it.

Bottomline, I think that these are BS charges, brought on by overzealous police officers. And they will get dropped.

I have a very difficult time believing that Bodden did a whole lot wrong. I have gone to training camp every year since the return and I have spoken to Bodden and have heard others talk to him. He always seemed like a cool easy going guy. Not like some of those players who talk to you, but you can tell that they don't want to be. Brodney Pool is that way as well.

Not always I was told by a cop once to move my car because it was just over the line (six inches to a foot) into a handicap spot. When I went to my car to move it, he waited until I opened my door, then he told me he would give me a DUI if my ass hit the seat. I shut the door and told him to give me a freakin ticket for parking in a handycap zone

Cops are not morons...they have a respectable job title and more people need to respect cops! How can you call a cop a name like that? If people would just be law abiding citizens no one would call cops bad names. I mean do you not read the newspaper? Did you not just read about that cop that tracked down that guy that stabbed his mother to death...keep in mind this cop was OFF duty getting ready to bring his daughter to school. This cop went out of his way to try to save the victim and find the perpetrator! Not all cops are "morons" as you called them.

Saw this go across the news so came to see what it was about... kind of glad it seems minor... but to Bodden and anybody else who cares to listen..... repeat after me..

Don't joke about the "bomb in your shoe" at the airport...
Don't joke about al Qaeda at the airport...
Don't park your car in front of the airport...
Take off your turban at the airport...

Any questions? In a post 9/11 world, nobody at the airport is messing around.

Just to add, if you see someone name Jack in the airport, its not advisable to say hi to Jake.

I just watched the press conference by Romeo:

1) I'd just like to point out that some of these media guys are jerks... "Did you call Leigh, it just seems to me like you would have called him to see whats going on?" Its always something in their head that Romeo should have done, regardless of the fact that he was coming in the next morning for practice.

I also watched the Leigh Bodden interview:

1) WHEN DID HE CUT HIS HAIR!!!!?????

Cleveland Browns Bodden apologizes for arrest, expects to play Sunday vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Posted by Tony Grossi September 06, 2007 13:02PM

Chuck Crow/The Plain Dealer
Cleveland Browns defensive back Leigh Bodden talks to the media in the Browns locker room in Berea, Ohio after the morning football practice on Thursday, Sept. 6, 2007. Bodden was arrested on Wednesday night at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport for arguing with police officers and resisting arrest.Browns cornerback Leigh Bodden apologized for getting arrested Wednesday night and vowed it won't be a distraction to him in preparing for the opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
He plans to play and coach Romeo Crennel said Bodden will play.

Earlier in the day, Bodden had an attorney enter not guilty pleas in Cleveland Municipal Court to charges of resisting arrest, failure to comply and a traffic ticket.

Cleveland police arrested Bodden at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport on Wednesday for arguing with officers and resisting arrest in the arrivals area.

Bodden posted a $1,000 bond and was released at 1:05 a.m. today after spending about five hours in jail.

At his locker in the open media period, Bodden said, "You all know there are two sides to every story, but right now I can't comment on my side of the story. My attorney's going to handle that.

"It's unfortunate that this is a distraction before the Steelers game. I apologize to my coaches and my teammates and I've talked to the coaches and we're trying to get past that and get ready for Pittsburgh. That's all I've got to say."

Followup questions were interrupted by Bill Bonsiewicz, Browns vice president of communications.

Bodden said he was unconcerned about a possible league suspension.

Crennel said he had not yet spoken to Bodden, but he found it odd that an easy-going guy such as Bodden could be arrested and jailed for what Crennel termed "a minor traffic incident."

"It's my understanding he was picking up his family at the airport and there are two small kids involved, and his wife, she can't handle the kids and the luggage, and he was just trying to help," Crennel said.

"Now I don't know what occurred between he and the police officer. There are always two sides to a story. Until I can find out that information, I'm going to reserve my judgment about what happened.

"Leigh is an easy-going guy. You don't anticipate any problems with him, so when something like that occurs with an easy-going guy, there may be more to it than the easy-going guy all of a sudden going off the deep end."

Ok, I was rough on Bodden the other day,, maybe too much so.

It appears he was waiting for his family.. Here's the thing, last saturday night, I picked up my wife, her friend and her 73 year old mom at the airport,,, I stopped outside the baggage area and got out of the car to help get the bags in the car.. A cop came over and helped me...

Now maybe Bodden got a Cop that didn't have a good day, or maybe he got a white cop that doesn't like blacks or something.. Or maybe bodden got up on the wrong side of the bed. But my experiece is that the cops at hopkins aren't hard nosed,, they understand that you are there to pick someone up and that as soon as you do, you will leave.. But what the DO NOT like is if they people you are picking up aren't in sight. For instance, if you know they are in the baggage area, but haven't stepped out, the cops don't want you sitting there waiting.... they WILL tell you to go around again.

And if you have children and bags and you can't handle getting all of it to the curb, there are porters there to help.. give them a buck or two and they will carry all the bags to the curb, sit there and wait for the car and help you load it. Bodden can certainly afford that service... (NOTE: if they do all that for you, you should offer more than just a couple of bucks,,, a five spot is more in order)

I don't know what happened,,, but like the article says, there are two sides..So I'll wait to hear the facts..... in other words, I'll shut up now.....

Oh,, here's the link: http://blog.cleveland.com/sports/2007/09/cleveland_browns_bodden_apolog_1.html

Does the airport have a "cell phone parking lot"? Charlotte has one, it's really cool... Dulles in Virginia has one too.. it's just a smallish lot off the side of the road going into the airport where you can sit for free, you can't leave your vehicle, but as the name implies, when somebody gets off the plane, they ring your cell and you can be at the pick-up curb in 2 minutes...

I don't think that Hopkins has it,,, Akron Canton has that.

But at hopkins, there are plenty of places to sit until the person arriving can call to let you know they are there

Actually, not bad at all. Doesn't have the same flair, but conveys the point.

Right but think of their job responsibilities; they literally put their lives on the lines to keep our streets and cities safe...how many people can honestly say that's in their job description? Yeah I don't think many...
