Trying to argue that the cost of tariffs aren't directly passed on to consumers is reaching an entire new level of propaganda.

Since most of the clothing brands I buy have moved to China and other foreign nations, most of my clothes are now made in Mexico and China. Everything from Levi, Carhardt and even Red Wing boots are made in foreign countries.

So who is it you think are paying the vast majority of the increased prices from the tariffs? Surely as someone involved in business you're not trying to suggest that businesses are simply eating the cost of these tariffs by taking a large decrease in their profit margins are you?

You see, while it sounds great to say you're imposing tariffs on China, what you're actually doing is placing that tariff on the companies and goods that come from China. Companies aren't simply eating it.

Oh, and BTW these brands aren't "garbage".

Hint, Tri C doesn't teach that rofl

Insulting little man aren't you.. You have no idea of my business background.. I own and operate a Very successful business and have for the last 14 years. Prior to that I operated successful operations for years.

So take you snide and witless remarks and stick them where the sun don't shine.

No matter how you slice it. If the COGS increase someone is going to pay for it. 99 times out of a 100, it's the consumer..

You say that the government charges the manufacturer when goods come into the USA...OK,, I'll assume that's true Where does that money go?

Those that ship the goods in would be aware of that right? if you say they aren't, then you gotta look in the mirror to see who doesn't know business.

So, assuming they know they will be assessed those dollars, they will increase the costs to the person the product is being shipped to.

Now Mr. Rude big time business man who thinks he knows everything, where do you think they get the money to pay the extra dollars that are caused by tariffs?

Oh,,, yeah,, here's a hint.... YOU pay for it. So do I.

Did you notice that there are no new tariffs on MAGA Hats or Trump Org Ties, or Ivanka clothing lines that are all made in other countries..

You have a hole in your thinking that I could drive a battleship through....

The very worst part of this is, the Government gets the Billions from the Manufacturers that ship the goods in, and keep it. But you still pay for it in the end because no matter what, if the COGS go up, the consumer ends up paying the price and it really doesn't matter why the COGS went up...

There it is Pitt! I said CHINA! You as a consumer have a CHOICE! You choose to buy Chinese made crap, I don't. Let's talk about that garbage I speak of. Are you familiar with the lawsuit Lumber Liquidators went thru with that Chinese flooring? How about that Chinese drywall that molded and required many builders to remove and replace? The list goes on...

Levi, Carhatdt and Red Wing boots aren't "crap".

Hey, according to many Trump supporters you can't make clothing in America anymore. That's the excuse they give us why all of the clothing he and Ivanka put their name on are foreign made.

What jeans that are worth a damn and don't cost over $100 dollars a pair are made in America?

Correct.

Yet, when some say raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour will raise the cost of goods sold and/or cost of services sold, we get some on here saying 'nuh uh'.

As that minimum wage increases, it gets put under cost, which then has profit added to it.

So ultimately, they get a minimum wage increase that puts them 10% further behind than before in day to day buying power.

What we need more than a raise of the minimum, is a programs to offer better paying job skill training, so those people can get better paying jobs, rather than just artificially inflate their pay.

Is Carhartt Made in the USA?

https://north40.com/life/carhartt-made-usa

The majority of Carhardt clothing is not made in the U.S.A.

Some Red Wings are made in the U.S.A. Some are not. Here is a breakdown of their foreign products.

Made in Cambodia – 15.2%
Made in China – 28.8%
Made in Vietnam – 10.6%

Over 50% of Red Wings are not made in America.

And thanks for showing me American made brands of quality jeans under $100. Oh wait, never mind, you didn't.

That's certainly a logical approach to the problem. Yet at this point, nobody is funding that either.

Lol Pit, your examples were debunked and you just can't admit you're wrong.

I've researched what products increased their prices due to tariffs and by how much...guess what I found?

Every damn article says prices; may, could, might, predict, price increases but not one says what actually has happened....interesting.

Coca Cola said it would have to raise it's prices...tell me what the average cost of a 12 ounce can was in 2017 and the price now!

What the hell did you debunk? Nothing I see. The consumer pays the additional cost. If not, then who does? The business isn't going to slash it's profit margin.

Do you need links to prove you were wrong about where Carhardt and Red Wings are made? Because I can certainly provide them to you.

That being said, the far majority of Carhartt's clothing is not made in the USA. On Carhartt's website, they state, "Today, less than 2% of the apparel purchased in the U.S. is made in the U.S." and go on to assure that Carhartt is a part of that 2% but are outpacing that percentage.

https://north40.com/life/carhartt-made-usa

According to Red Wing, over 60% of their boots are manufactured right here in the USA. This percentage is quite impressive compared to other shoe and boot manufacturers who have moved the large majority of their production overseas. Most of their American manufacturing takes place in their plants in Potosi, Missouri and Red Wing, Minnesota.

We decided to test this 60% claim. We took a look at every single work boot style available on the Red Wing website and where they are made. Here is a breakdown of their origin, according to the website.

Made in USA – 25.8%
Made in the USA with Imported Materials – 18.7%
Assembled in the USA with Imported Components – 1.0%
Made in Cambodia – 15.2%
Made in China – 28.8%
Made in Vietnam – 10.6%

https://allamericanreviews.com/red-wing-boots/

Your claims were just that. Baseless claims.

You didn't, and I'm not sure if you even know how to debunk anything. Facts make it hard I know.

For crying out loud Pit....tell me what the additionnal cost is? YOU CAN'T!

You said those products were made in China. Red Wing, per your article, says 60% is made here! Carhartt 28% is made in China....dude you're looking foolish. I said to you Levi's are not exclusive to China and they're NOT!

Quantify your claim and everybody's claim that the consumer will pay for the price increase, YOU CAN'T! Not one damn company can tell you how much they raised prices on a certain product because of tariffs.

Dude you're like a woman going into a jewelry store buying a $10000 ring for a $100...it's BS! Coke said they have to raise prices because of it but won't tell you how much. BTW, they mentioned 4 other reasons for a price increase before they listed tariff.

Hey man, there's a sale going on at a store down the road fropm you, better hurry before you miss it. notallthere

I think people can see where the BS is coming from.

Washing machines, dishwashers are more expensive after Trump tariffs

Prices of major appliances in U.S. soar ahead of holiday season

https://www.marketwatch.com/story/buying...iffs-2018-11-14

btw- Red Wing made the claim that 60% of their products were made in America. What I posted debunked that claim.

You haven't bought any electronics? Most chip sets are made there now. Hard drives, ram, and flash memory too. I seriously doubt you can go without buying something that originated in China. Between electronic/electric components, foods, household goods, glues, tape, pet stuff, trinkets, software, games... on and on and on... you bought something.

BTW, I asked Pit to tell me what he has bought with a Chinese label on it since the tariffs were imposed. Let me repeat that last part, SINCE THE TARIFFS HAVE BEEN IMPOSED!

BS is coming from you man rofl

So again we have a claim that washing machines and dishwashers prices have increased by 8.1% iirc...then says most of which happened after tariffs were imposed....lmao nice try.

No DOLLAR amount was mentioned that was directly due to tariffs. How often do you buy these items? Me once every 10 years or so....my god this is killing consumers.

This has actually gotten boring. I said from the beginning that consumers are not the only ones flipping the bill but you want to continue on with this but hey, your party is doing the same about collusion, wait, conspiracy oh no wait it's obstruction....lmao

Economy is doing better than your eyes have EVER seen....PERIOD!

You do understand that the dollar amount would depend on how much the appliance costs, right?

BTW- I don't have a political party. It would cause me to have to sit here throwing out baseless BS to defend everything they do despite the facts presented. Just like you're doing now.

Pit, there's a tariff on aluminum. Who do you think purchase more aluminum coke or Maytag? I asked about coke because people buy that product on a daily basis, the SAME people. Again I'll ask you, how much did coke increase the price because of tariffs?

It amuses me cuz I've been putting a dollar in the same vending machine on a daily basis for years....damn tariffs!

I have no idea. The price of soda has gone up but I have no way to directly link it to tariffs. I know you could make thousand of soda cans with what is used in making an appliance. Look, I have proven that the price of appliances went up due to the tariffs. You can't add 20% to the cost of something imported and claim it won't cause the cost of those products to rise. That flies in the face of logic and common sense.

So let’s recap how he last 2 weeks is going:

Trump is using his power to try and block his tax returns from being lawfully released, is reescalating a trade war with China that is causing a massive sell off, is threatening Iran AGAIN over a deal that HE pulled out of, NK launching missiles, and now is thinking of military intervention in Venezuela.

So two potential new combat zones, a constitutional crisis, empowered dictator, and a trade war.

Oh yea, whatever happen to that national emergency we got going on? Guess trump lost interest in that, too?

Common sense tells you that a company is not going to take an increase in costs and not pass that cost on to consumers. Anyone who thinks otherwise is fooling themselves.

I have a question for you Florida; when a new trade deal is agreed upon and the tariffs are removed, will these companies reduce their prices? Again I'll ask, what is the DOLLAR amount of these supposed increases?

I wish people wouldn't be as selective with statements I make because the interpretations are completely off!

Well that explains a lot... YOu didn't know that COGS were passed on to the consumer..... notallthere

In the end, the end consumer is the ONLY one paying for the Tariffs.. How in the hell can you reach any other conclusion is beyond reason.

As for MAGA Hats, I've come to find that they are now licensed by a company in California.., But they were originally made in China.. Some news that you won't get on FOX is that since elected, Trumps daughter Ivanka has received a large number of patents in China for her clothing line... To be made in China...

Try and keep up will ya.

Choosing another source is a good angle to avoid paying the tariffs on China goods (see, you even admit it in a roundabout way that consumers pay the tariffs....) But not possible in all cases.

There is a huge problem with IP,, no question about it. But tariffs aren't the solution. Not sure what is, but making americans pay more for goods isn't the answer.. It's the answer for only idiots.

As for me not having a clue, I think I've just made it clear who the clueless person is. You

Here's a business and negotiating lesson for you my friend;
Buying power rules the roost. Do you think suppliers give equal pricing to all of it's distributors? HELL NO! If I buy 10 mil worth of products a month from a Chinese supplier and you buy 100k from that supplier, you will not get the same pricing. I have the POWER to tell that supplier, you're going to eat that tax or I'm finding a new supplier. Guess what will happen?

Get a clue....this happens to me on a regular basis. Competitors of my suppliers want my business so they offer me deep discounts or some type of concessions.

Belittle me then call me your friend? I gotta wonder where your head is at on that one.

Buying power don't mean anything.

The end result is and always will be, those at the bottom of the buying chain, we'll pick up the tab for stupid tariffs.

There it is....YOU KNOW NOTHING ABOUT BUSINESS!

That ranks among the dumbest statements I've ever read! So why have credit scores for personal or business use? You're trying to tell me that people or businesses with higher credit scores don't get preferential treatment? You're trying to tell me that a company that can buy 10 times more products from a supplier than a competitor doesn't get preferential treatment? WOW! Frickin unreal!
