i'm not sure anything other than a complete overhaul can fix the nba. They have the worst system, player union, and cba in any professional sport. Teams that are in small markets that legit had bad seasons should def be able to have the better picks and not have to leave it to chance in a lottery. No way a team that wins 12 more games than us should be able to pick above us, and 14 more games than the knicks. Anyone that watched us could tell we weren't intentionally trying to tank ala 2002. between that and the superteams and collusion among players. NBA is unwatchable right now if you aren't a fan of a super team

Giving the Hornets or Kings Zion wouldn't make it so they can compete with the Bucks or Warriors. You also make it near impossible for bottom feeders like the Cavs to ever be good in the NBA, by taking away their only source of talent. That's because we wildly overestimate the impact of a top 3 pick, especially in their first three seasons. We'd like to think that they're all year 4 Kyrie or lebron, but in reality they're much more like Wiggins.

I'm completely in agreement with you here. It might prevent the total roster blow-out type of tanking that we see today, but everybody outside of the top 3 or 4 seeds in each conference would actively be trying to miss the playoffs. And like you are also saying, those on the bottom would never be able to get better because they'd always get crappy draft picks. So you'd have 2-5 teams that would probably be winning 70+ games a year. Another dozen or so that are always bad and never getting better, and everyone else trying to suck just enough to miss the playoffs.

If we want to make the NBA more competitive, then hampering the development of future super stars is not the way to go. Instead the focus needs to be aimed at not allowing super teams to form inorganically by allowing teams to give out max contracts. If a team wants to give 80% of their cap space to a Durant, LBJ, AD or Kyrie, they should be allowed to.

Agree with that too. The NBA should act more like soccer, which is also a star-driven system (that also doesn't have a draft). Teams would be free to use as little or as much of the cap on a player as they want. If some team wants to give Lebron 100% of their cap, and fill out their roster on vet mins, they can. If a two players want to join forces but take 50% each of the cap and get a roster of vet mins, they can. If a team and players want to be smart and sign to no more than 15% each of the cap and flush out the roster with respectable players that don't demand huge contracts, they can and hope to run with the big boys. I think it would make BOTH teams and players more thoughtful about the contracts that handout/get. If a player like Lebron knows he's good enough to get 80% of the cap from some team, he can do it. But he also knows that means the team around him is only going to be worth 20% of the cap and might not be as good as he hopes.

You could probably also scrap the draft in that format. Want to get a coveted player out of college? Sign him to a huge deal for 10 years. If he busts, well, you're stuck with that contract now. Everyone would just have to be smarter with contracts.

The owners will never not give out dumb contracts. It’s what they do.

That's sort of the point. If they want to do it, let them. The great players will get paid, and the smart teams will contend.

I think it's great that the teams who tried to tank this season the most didn't the top 2 picks and fared poorly overall. Teams like the Knicks, Cavs, Suns, Bulls all tanked and didn't get rewarded. That's awesome!

I really love listening to and reading the whining from Knick fans because they did not get the opportunity to draft Zion. It's hysterical.

Hey New York, tank this!

Great game last night. Giannis and the Bucks are a complete team, when everyone is healthy. Scary good.

Leonard really played like crap in the 4th (2 points) but Lowry stepped up and did well. That's a big step for him.

This series should go 7.

If he ever goes.. as I understand it, Zion has not hired an agent and he has not signed a shoe deal... he has to within 10 days of the draft to declare if he wants in the draft... he could spend another year at Duke if he chooses.

Milwaukee is really long. The Greek Freak, Lopez, Middleton, Mirotec, and Ilyasova are all tall and make it kinda tough for guys to get good looks in the paint.

I didn't watch them much this year, but they look pretty damn impressive. They have some good perimeter shooters, the best athlete in the NBA, a hard-nosed PG, and are long. Nice combination.

I picked Milwaukee to win it all. They can play alot of ways, but they almost always play their way and make the other teams chase what they do. thats a hard thing to adjust to if you're the other team

No one's beating the Warriors this year.

Hopefully next year we have a new champion.

100% - Lillard and McCollum are nice dudes and are fun to watch, but they're running out of gas. Heck, Lillard didn't play particularity well against Denver. I still say, the only reason Portland is still alive is because Millsap was a no-show in game 7.

As for the Warriors future, if I were KD and Thompson and we won for a 3rd time in a row, I'm coming back to see if we can go for 4, 5 & 6. They'd have a chance to set a mark only the 60's Celtics can brag about.

I know everyone wants KD to play elsewhere so we can rid ourselves of this Oakland juggernaut, but why quit if you can be the first team to win 4+ in a row since 1962? And on top of that, why would you sign with the Knicks? They aren't the destination in NY I'd go to.

Yep, Brooklyn is a more desirable team than the Knicks. Dolan is a moron.

That's a big hire for the Cavs.
