Head is much clearer and I'm feeling better overall.

Thats wild because I have the opposite experience. Just goes to show how different body chemistry can be

So I heard a news segment today from a reporter who has been covering this for years. . . . under Obama the same inhumane conditions existed - no soap, no toothbrushes/paste etc. The reporter said she was trying to get attention to it back then .... since Trump escalated the war on asylum seekers - obviously the problems and conditions have worsened/become more crowded/affected more people.

I'm happy to peg Obama for ownership of these things happening under his watch .... it's wrong. Period. Trump also owns it - especially as there is a now a spotlight on it and what's going on has been exposed. A black eye for the country.

Quote:
So therefore I would like for you to tell the rest of us how to proceed with this growing humanitarian crisis.

Here's a suggestion, just off the top of my head:

In my opinion, this could be solved in record time. It would have to come from POTUS, and it would accomplish 3 things simultaneously:

1. It would fast-track immediate solutions to the health & housing situation
2. It would provide the genesis of long-term solutions via open bipartisan dialogue
3. It would all but ensure a second term for 45* by bringing in voters who are "meh/OK" with much but DECIDEDLY NOT OK with this handling of kids in cages.

If Trump woke up tomorrow, went to CapHill and gave an address to the joint chambers of Congress and said:

"The humanitarian crisis at our southern border is untenable and indefensible. I am therefore challenging the congress to draft legislation to allocate the funds once requested for a border wall to:

1. expanding housing/medical/support facilities to come into compliance with existing regulations
2. increase the number of immigration courts, clerks, lawyers and judges to better facilitate the case loads this crisis has created
3. open conversations with the 'refugee countries' to explore assisting them in eradicating the conditions that cause so many to flee northward in the first place.

I call upon the congress to act with all due haste, as this situation is deteriorating by the day."

_____________

With that one proclamation, these things become possible:

1. GOPer's who were concerned about the border crisis but felt constrained because of 45*s previous rhetoric are now freed to seek solutions that directly address the immediate situation.

2. "Obstructionist Dems" lose their incentive to resist because the money is no longer going to a wall (which they find to be an abhorent waste of resources), and begin working with Repubs on workable solutions they can justify to their own constituents.

3. Voting moderates, fence-riders and non-political types bend toward 45* because he is now presenting in a bipartisan, presidential fashion... thereby increasing his potential votes, or at least offsetting those single-issue wall-lover votes that might peel away in protest.

_________________

Of the 3 potential results, Trump wins at least two. And the third result doesn't hurt him in any way, numbers-wise. The crisis is given serious attention (which can be spun as a total win by Candidate 45), and initial step will be taken to ameliorate the current crisis, while jump-starting a long-term solution that would eclipse anything the 44 Admin ever accomplished on this issue.

I don't foresee this happening because 45 struggles with checkers, and what I'm proposing requires the discipline of someone who understands chess. I believe that 45 is so attuned to maintaining his base that he'd refuse to consider any option that might strip even .10 of his supporters, even if that means he risks never increasing/expanding his support beyond his approval numbers which have remained pool table flat since 2 months after his inauguration.

He is as simple, binary and transactional as a 7 year old with Asperger's and a lemonade stand. He will automatically see this route as capitulation (read: 'loozah') instead of an avenue to a positive feather in his cap. He will govern to appease the dullest of his base without realizing that:

1. the other 90% will always be 'ride or die'
2. the outsiders who'd come aboard would outnumber the defectors (defectives?).

His 'wall or bust' stance is hurting not only the kids at the border but his potential re-election numbers.

One other option exists that hasn't been discussed/considered: Win or lose in 2020, he could be looking down the barrel of a packed blue Congress that simply draws up legislation with numbers large enough to override any veto he might try to pen.

Lots of (potential) solutions exist.
These are only two.

And you thought I'd have no response, didn't you?
You should know me better by now.

p.s. this is A WAY to proceed. It's by no means the only one and it's not a guarantee, but it is at least something that is actionable and potentially beneficial for both parties involved... not to mention better for the kids. Never underestimate the political power of getting something positive done.

Ah yes. The simpleton that's worth billions. I wish I could be a moron like that.

Sorry, but all your solution does is solve the problem for a moment. Just like during Reagan, if there is no solution first, it will not come at all. Politicians need a crisis like this so they can make promises on fixing it. If they ever fix the problem, they have nothing to promise.

I would wish better for you than that. Pretty sure you're already better than that. Money is not a measure of worth. And he does see life in utterly simplistic terms. Zero-sum game. In every aspect of life. EVERY aspect of life.

_________________

Politics and reality simply doesn't work like that. In your scenario all of us let 'perfect be the enemy of good,' in that when we wait for a perfect solution to present itself we do nothing at all.

It's also a basic law of inertia: it take a crap-ton of effort to even start a ball in motion. Once in motion, there is absolutely nothing wrong with changing course as situations change.

I get your take on nothing getting done, but I'll put it to you this way: they get nothing done and enjoy a system that promotes it because we let them. Every single initiative that ever got off the ground; every social or political movement that ever led to legislative law began when the masses of people stood up for (or against) a thing. They do this to us because we don't force them to pay a price for their inaction. Too many Americans are so totally disengaged from the political process that these elected bums are allowed to do as they please.

In that regard, we agree. However, there are certain events/issues that so croos the line as to incite people out of their self-absorption. I think this is one of those issues. Enough so that someone- ANYONE with the vertebra to make this a real thing will start a true movement. At least on this one, singular issue. And I'm telling you, if Donald Trump were to make this about-face, he would cement into his legacy a signature policy that would dwarf a physical structure across a 2000-mile expanse of mountain, sand river and private property. The Trump Doctrine would immortalize him in the way he so covets. But it will never happen, because he isn't hardwired to ever consider it- even if it was sales-pitched to him.

It wouldn't be the legacy he planned or hoped to leave; it would be a better, more positive one.

Quote:

If they ever fix a problem, there are plenty more to address.
We need to force them into that new paradigm. Politicians used to get bills passed and things done.

I'm in the camp that says get started now... make alterations as needed, but for Christ's sake (and blessing), we simply cannot do nothing. People should not be treated like this by any one.

Not surprised that the GOP’rs are off worried and posturing about Mueller again while ignoring families being separated, and men, women, children are dying on the southern border.

Yet I don't hear a peep about all the ones dying in their own countries, and who do not have soap or toothpaste, or food or water. I only hear about the ones at our border. (Which by the way I think is sick and disgusting in the way they are being treated)

That's an outright lie or misconstruction of the facts. I give to charity - I do it willingly and to try and help families, kids all over the world. Because I and others don't come on here and preach about that you want to say were hypocrites for talking about how the US govt. is inhumanely treating kids who are seeking asylum ? Deflection at best - disgusting excuses at worst. Based on that sort of logic we should let the world rot because you can always deflect and find another example of something worse or the same as the problem that's trying to be addressed. Pitiful.

a proposed solution that involves donald trump as the hero.

After reading it, let's all hear your potential solutions. Since you're the board's resident Norman Einstein, you should be full of ideas. Or something.

Don't over-stress the TDS sufferers...they are just now coming around to admit that there is a crisis at the border. Trump has been telling them that for a very long time now and they are just now seeing that he is correct...again.

That bullcrap your slinging is pilled higher than the Empire state building. How many threads have been started on these boards about people starving in other countries? How many have been started about kids not having soap and toothpaste? If there are ANY how many posts did they receive? This is being discussed now so that folks on the left can complain about Trump and/or folks on the right.

Now never once did I call you or anybody else a hypocrite, so if you want to talk about misconstruction of facts, lie's and deflection just walk over in front of a mirror.

You just described exactly what Trump has done so far.

You need a boogeyman? Pull out of the Iran deal to increase tensions with them and then blame the tensions on them.

Border? Threaten to shut it down and build a wall which will cause them to rush to the border in record numbers.

Opposition? Call it a conspiracy and claim everyone from the FBI to the courts are out to get you by describing it as the deep state. Attack and discredit the free press.

There are actual things that happen in this world that bring about a crisis. Then there are those things people call a crisis that are created by those who it helps.

Sure ... that's why multiple posters have stated this was happening under Obama. You're interpretation of the situation - what is "news" and what this political forum is about seem to be skewed to suit whatever bogus deflection you want to make at any given moment.

Your post seems to scream you don't care that the USA government is treating human beings in an inhumane way. Your answer is "look elsewhere" and "if you didn't complain about world hunger before be silent now" ..... horse manure.

It's really simple - regardless of who started it, who owns it now, where these people come from or the color of their skin ..... they are being treated in a disgusting way. Do you condone this treatment? If not speak up.

I described what every politician has done since operation wetback. Even the Democrat house bill doesn't give money for new holding facilities, beds, or CBP agents.

They're coming in droves because they're being funded, and told how to lie about asylum.

The one thing I wanna know is:

Where the hell is 40¢?
He challenged me to give the board a potential solution, then when I did, his lame ass just up and evaporated.

I'm convinced he either didn't expect a response or doesn't care that there even was a response.
If I'm not mistaken, that's the very definition of

I challenged you to give a potential solution.

You have done so for the world to read.

They will judge it on its merit.

I was only looking to end your constant tears and get you to add something to the conversation.
