For Cryin out loud Pit,,, the team he has now,, did he have that team his first year,,, NO
No,the first year they said they didn't have players that even fit their system and went 6-10.

The team he has now, did he have that team in his second year,, NO, Close but still, NO
You're right. And they looked WORSE than year one!

I don't think you will find ONE person that thinks that Talent doesn't matter, and only a fool would try to tell you that RAC's first two team were more talented in any way shape of form than the one he has right now.. at least on paper.
For your comment to hold any weight at all, he would have had to have a talented team to start off and that's just not the case!
Not at all. He did more with people he said DIDN'T even FIT their system than the guys they had last year. And unless something in the "miracle range" happens,we're going to stink it up again with MORE talent!

Putting a new coach in TODAY wouldn't prove a thing,, not a thing. Even if they start winning, what's to say that wasn't gonna happen anyway.. and please,, don't give me a history lesson again,,, I know the record,, it was a completely different team.
Because RAC has shown ZERO ability to "lead a team". It's only obvious to anyone truely looking at it.
Even Toad knows it!

MOST of the people wouldn't feel this way if we "kept playing". If we looked "presentable". It isn't about "wheather we beat the Steelers or not". It's about showing up looking like we weren't even ready to play the game. If you get behind 17-0,is that an excuse to just roll over and play dead?
DING, DING, DING!!!!!!
I have said it over and over, we did not look like we were even in the same league as Pittsburgh offensively. I can NOT put my hand on one thing, hell, maybe Pittsburgh is a superbowl contender again, but that was just pitifull to watch for ANYONE>
And Daman, I don't think I am calling for Romeo's head right now, but much more of what I saw Sunday will make me seriously question my reasons for NOT.
I just want a COMPETETIVE team, I didn't expect to be a playoff team this yr., I "expected" a competetive team that could make me proud and hopefull. Sunday did neither, and if we play the same way this sunday against the Bengals..............Even though it is ONLY TWO GAMES INTO THE SEASON.........I problably WILL be calling for Romeo's job.
It was only the first game, we CAN turn this around, we will be respectable, we WILL show that we are a team that is close to being a contender, and I WILL keep telling myself this the rest of the yr.

I'll give RAC a couple more years. He's had some luck his first season---but then that was a season in which we overachieved. His second season was riddled with problems for the OC controversy to the revolving door at center, to the BE sideline blow-up.
This season was thrown away as soon as we took BQ---as soon as we did that, we basically sold-out our other two QB's--after we took BQ, then both of them knew we hadn't any faith in them---and thats just not what you want in a young QB. Its kind of hard to focus on football when you are looking over your shoulder at a 1st round QB.
So, this season will probably be a wash, and looking at next season, RAC will have a respectable team on offense and defense. We'll have solidified the QB situation, the line will have grown together through a season of play. And hopefully we will address RB or DL situation in the draft and FA. Overall, we will be a lot more prrepared for next season. We will have our clear #1 at nearly every position.
So, I will give RAC a couple more years. I'm sick of giving a coach a few years and then firing him. Thats not how you build a winning team. If you look at the list of super bowl winning head coaches---most of them had a pretty long tenure to get the ship set in the right direction. Anyone that thinks that you get anywhere by continually swapping coaches is a fool. How many first year HC's have won a super bowl, I believe the answer is one. You win with a tenured coach who is able to successfully impliment his system over the course of many years.
Peen always wants change on this team, be it the HC, the OC, the QB; and Its ridiculous opinions like that that keep us from going anywhere

Pit,, sometimes, when you are tearing things up to rebuild, they don't look so good in the process..
When I had surgery last december,, had my wife walked in right in the middle of it, she would have found my guts laying all over the operating table (believe it or not, I have a picture of that,,YUK)...
it wouldn't have looked too good to her at that moment... get my drift?
What's that other old saying, can't make an omelet without breaking a couple of eggs...
Let it play out man,,, just let it play out..
Firing RAC today would be about the dumbest thing to do and basically, I know you know that.
Give it time.

Sorry about your surgery and all......Daman....sorry man, you are making excuses.
We had time to prepare...and weren't.
Do you think we were prepared for this last game??
If so then you think out team is no better than 2 years ago....if not...well....you have the answer.
And the kicker is we prepared with all we had.
So, with that said....I know the team is better...it isn't hard to look at the roster in comparison....so that leaves me to conclude the preparation we get just isn't up to NFL standards.
This isn't about losing the game, though it was a important game to win. Had we lost by 3-4 in a hard fought game I would have never started this thread.
But man.....we got our butts kicks. Our faces slapped. Our mothers called ugly names. Our wives honor was questioned. Our kids were kicked.
Answer me this....what gets you riled up?? Whatever it is...that's what happened.

I love how we have so many mature fans who seem fit to make food/fat jokes about our head coach...
jaybird I would rather make light hearted comments on his weight than make comments on his coaching. It is alot more fun and it stops me from getting fired up over what I see.
If you would like to state some examples of what he has shown us as a head coach and give me even a few examples of when he has proven to be a good leader, teacher in helping to improve the performance of his players I am all ears or eys. Until he does that, then it will be one joke after another and I am not the one perpetuating them.
RAC has done more on his own accord to make himself the butt of jokes than we have.
I happen to really like him. He just hasnt proven himself to be head coaching material. I have not hate for the man whatsoever.

Well Damon, there's two sides to that coin. Now I won't claim to "know" which side of the coin is right. But there are two pretty distinct scenarios here. And I believe most fans have picked their side of the coin. But there are certainly two trains of thought when looking at this situation. Scenario 1 We stick with Romeo and he does well. We see gradual improvement over the course of the season and he is capable of developing Quinn into the QB he should be. All is well in Browns town! Scenario 2 We stick with RAC through this entire season and see no signs of life in regards to RAC being an NFL head coach. They seems up and down all year. No "pattern of progress" ever comes about. Romeo is fired. Now if you truely feel that there's "really reasons to believe" that scenario 1 plays out that way, then by all means, you would be on the side of Romeo staying put through this entire season. However,if you feel scenario 2 is the most likely conclusion, you probably don't feel RAC should stay. I just don't think he has it in him to be an NFL head coach. I believe every game he coaches is an excersise in futility. I mean even last year,we should have seen SOME improvement over the course of the season. Not a winning season or anything. But something you could put your finger on that showed some signs of stability somewhere. I don't see where firing RAC right now would help anything immediatly. The only way I think it seems logical is IF we could bring a guy like Marty in at the bye. That would give him time to get things on track for next season. Otherwise,an "interum coach" type of a set up is fairly meaningless. But the point of this is,once you realise "a few eggs will have to be broken". The quicker you break them and get on with things, the quicker you get back on track. I mean what if we stick with RAC all year and THEN we see he isn't the answer? What if we can get Marty at the bye now,but we wait? Aren't we just waiting longer to break the eggs that will have to be broken later? Aren't we simply avoiding the innevitable which equates to taking even LONGER to get on the right track? I guess it boils down to this. Continuity is only a positive IF you can move forward by having said continuity. But continuity, simply for the sake of having it,yet not progressing,is more an excersise in futility rather than continuity. Continuity,at that juncture, becomes a losing proposition. Why? Because you keep perpetuating failure. You keep beating that same dead horse with nothing to show for it but wasted time and effort. So I guess everyone must weigh the evidence of the "RAC experiment" to this point and draw their own conclusion. So far,I've heard every reason under the sun why he hasn't seen any measure of success to this point, yet nothing of substance to indicate a reasonable expectation he can gain success in the future. Long story short? If I were Phil,I'd be burning up Martys ear ASAP! If I were Randy? I'd tell him to name his price! Because IMO,right or wrong,we're going nowhere with RAC. Not now,not then, not later. But that's just my opinion from everything I've seen to this point. And believe me,from my point of view,I've seen enough. JMHO

WHAT THE HELL ARE WE AFRAID OF DOING HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IT DOES NOT GET ANY WORSE THAN THIS.....CHANGE IT UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We have sucked as a franchise since 1999 when we were reborn. We have lived through Couch and Detmer and Frye and countless other QB dissapointments.
We have gone through Chris Palmer,Butch Davis and RAC all of which have failed regardless of the personnel they had/drafted/developed.
We finally shore up an OLine which has been horrendous.... We finally shore up a DBackfield which was worse than lousy. We finally pick our QB of the future and listen as we are told how ready and smart he is........ We trade for a stronger back to rush the ball down the field...........
But...But...But....Our experienced QBs are still stiffs and our HC only shows that he is conscious when he trips over the headphone wires.
This still is a lousy football team and will be until the players see a more competent QB and a more successful/decisive HC to rally around.
Is there anyone who would pay hundreds of millions of dollars for an NFL Franchise and then hire Romeo Crennel to lead them with Derek Anderson/Ken Dorsey as the field general?????? Hell NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Put the Kid In and learn like Aikman,Manning and Kosar did. Let him make his natural mistakes and learn from it. Let him get rocked around like all QBs do from time to time. Let him succeed occassionally and hear the roar of a crowd who just watched a potential pro bowl QB throw his first few TD passes and get patted on the ass and helmet by relieved teammates.
Let him GO and PLAY.......RAC is a lost cause but may ride the coattails of BQ ...if so OK if BQ struggles then RAC's time is up anyway.

We cannot be firing a coach after the first game or two of a season. What kind of message would that send to coaching prospects?
Frye came into game one knowing that he could not make any mistakes and played like a guy who was afraid to do anything. Our stupid punter couldn't catch a ball snapped perfectly to him. We got down 17-0...pulled the paranoid QB in the 2nd qtr and put in the backup. The game snowballed on us and as a team we haven't built enough confidence in our abilities to overcome such an avalanche.
I may have certain issues regarding Romeo, but I certainly don't think it's fair to evaluate the progress the team has made under his tenure after one game in his 3rd season, with a new offense, new QB (now DA), new LT, LG, RG, RT, RB, WR3, ...and that's just the offense.
I know we're all sick and tired of not being respected. But we've got to let common sence rule for a while longer.

So, what it comes down to is opinion right? I have mine, you have yours,, I'm not at all sure what Peens is (sorry peen,, just having some fun with ya) You, by your own comments: Quote:
And believe me,from my point of view,I've seen enough.
I haven't. I'm not basing my thinking on yesterdays team, I'm basing it on what he can put on the field today.. and after one game, (albeit a horrible example) I'm not ready to throw the baby out with the bath water and commit this team to even more rebuilding.
I think we may be closer if we follow the path we are on,,, for a short while longer..
Pit and Peen, it's not that I don't advocate the termination of RAC,, it's that I don't advocate the termination of RAC TODAY. Give it a couple of weeks, see how it plays out.
Oh, and Peen, it's not an excuse, it's rational thinking..

I'm with you on this one Damon. I don't know that RAC is the answer just like I don't know he isn't. The thing is I don't see the benefit of firing him in the middle of the season. If he made it through the off season then let him go through the regular season to see what he can do.

Yes,it's about "opinion".
I base mine on the body of evidence since RAC has been here. From what I'm seeing,he is getting more indecisive, less effective, and has shown no signs to indicate he can succeed.
Now I respect the fact that you have a differing opinion than mine, but could you please give me the evidence that you are using to base your opinion on?
BTW- I see the team as the "baby" and RAC as the "bath water". Permiting your baby to soak in stagnant water can not be healthy for the baby.
JMHO
And I guess it depends on what you mean by "a short while longer". Because IF we can get a proven NFL head coach in here at the bye week, that will be long enough IMO
You do realise that if we can do that and don't and RAC fails this season, that just puts that much more distance between us and success don't you?

Let's settle all this right here and now. I'll take over the HC position at the bye week and have Diam as my QB coach, Attack as the OC, Vers as the DC, Damon as the GM (sorry GM), and trade our next 5 years' #1 picks for Troy Smith and have Ammo as his jock sniffer.

Heck....being heavy is one of the reason I like him....at least he knows the good restaurants. I had dinner with him one time.....sort of...table across from me in Nashville when he was our coordinator and chatted some. Demos was the name of the place. Let's just say he can polish off a basket of bread about as fast as a dog can polish off the meat on a ham bone.

Sorry Coach, but we already have a guy who can get talent in here. Otherwise? I doubt you guys could do any worse.
Well accept for ATTACK. I think I'd leave Chud there so when you guys go belly up,at least the scene would still be in place where we might stand a shot at landing Marty.
But let me ask you something.................
What "tangible evidence" has RAC shown you that gives you any degree of evidence or confidence in him likely becoming a successfull NFL head coach?
Having the team prepared? Great half time adjustments? Steady progress? Being decisive? Being a good leader?
I mean,I've heard people say he should stay, but other than "hope that it all just works out" I haven't seen anything "tangible" in regards to them mentioning "actual NFL head coaching qualities" that give a reason for their position?
Oh that's right,he doesn't yell.
Anything else you can shed light on that should give us a legitimate cause to believe "He's the guy!"?

I've said a hundred times I don't know if he can or can't make it yet. I will tell you what I know form the "inside". He is very well respected, the players believe in him, they want to succeed for him, he is motivating and fiery (but he does it the way it should be done, in private), and he has a proven track record as a winner.
Does all that translate into having what it takes? Again, I don't know. What I do know is what Damon's already said, I don't see any gain in getting rid of someone ONE GAME into the season. That hardly allows him to succeed with the new talent brought in to do so.

I don't think a coach needs to scream to be successfull. Never have. And it's great that the players like and respect him. But many well liked coaches that were respected by their players weren't head coaching material and never were successfull.

OH! You mean as a DC working "under" a head coach who has a proven track record as a winner. I agree with that.
Wasn't Bill a DC before he was a head coach? Wonder if it was Bill or Romeo who "really" ran that D? Was it Bills schemes and system to lead to that success or Romeos? We don't really know how much of that was Bill and how much of that was Romeo for sure now do we?

As long as we clarify that it's "one game into his third season". And it looks eerily similar to previous seasons.
And in case you missed it Coach,I don't think you up and fire him unless you can bring "a proven winning HEAD coach in at the bye either. But if you can? You JUMP ON IT!

Pit, our biggest offseason acquisitions happened last off-season. Joe Thomas, Steinbach, Lewis, and Quinn on the offensive side. These players are key to our long term success. Therefore, it hasn't been 3 years and 1 game that RAC has had the offense that is NFL caliber. The D has looked okay the last 3 years, considering what they were doing to it (going from 4-3 to 3-4). Give him more than 4 quarters with the new offense and new OC before judging him is my point.

"Sorry man.....RAC doesn't get a clean slate every year. It doesn't work that way."
Who is stating every year...I'm stating a fact about our team in 05 n our team in 07.
20 new starters... Next year there are not 20 new starters. This year there are 4 new starters on D and 6 new starters on offense (if you count Shaffer new at RT).
Next year there will be less.
But you are stating ONE GAME and that defines his entire season. I'm saying let me actually see the season or must I go by your crystal ball. You could be right and if so I'm sure RAC will be gone. But you are basing it on one game. Then you make a statement like Sorry RAC doesn't get a free ride every year.
You're basing your whole thing on a PREMENITION I'm basing what I said strictly on a fact. I cannot say same old same old from the first game and say he had 33 games to prepare. When this is virtually a: New OL New Offense New O coaches 6 New starters on O Not even counting a now NEW QB in DA
Don't make crap up like he has had 33 games.
Say the truth...OUR FIRST GAME THIS YEAR SURE DID SUCK!! but don't give me this crapola of 33 games so you know. You are making an educated GUESS from one game.
Sorry if I did that in a court of law and stated that as fact I'd get shot...
Defense wins championships. Watson play your butt off! Go Browns! CHRIST HAS RISEN! GM Strong! & Stay safe everyone!

If the Browns get beat by the Bengals by 17 points or more, then go out and get overwhelemed by the Ravens, then I think Romeo will either resign or get fired. You have to win within your division in order to rectify things....1 win in 3 years vs the North will accelerate Crennel's exit...... Then Grantham will be the interm coach, until Schottenheimer is brought in....

I base mine on the body of evidence since RAC has been here.
Flawed evidence leads to bad opinions,,, (I was just watching CSI and Grissom just told someone that )
You ask me for my evidence,, simple,,,, RAC got here, he inherited a lousy, no talent team of guys with bad attitudes... some were good guys that didn't fit what he was looking for.. They dumped a lot of guys... And to fill in with guys that had less talent than they wanted,, Andruzzi (sure hope he gets better) and Coleman to name a couple.
Then in the second year, they subtract more and add some more talent. Some of it works out, some doesn't (I sure hope bentley can contribute some day)
Then there is this offseason,, dump practically the entire offensive coaching staff, hire Chud and a host of other, and keep one guy, Rip Scherer. Big changes,
Add Stieny, Thomas and Quinn.. Time for the team to gel,, Frye comes in and sucks,,, he's traded.. Savage says it was the plan to do it sometime anyway,,, who knows,.,
So, my point in all of this, RAC doesn't have a good team the first year. he has a slightly better team Talent wise in his second year, but with the offensive woes (and yes, some of that is without a doubt, his fault) it's a mess.. they don't have as good a record.
So, what we have here is two lousy teams, while they are trying to move to better talent.. and you want to judge him as if he had the team he has now for the whole time,,
I can't see how that fits,, that's the reason I feel as I do. And no, I don't expect you to agree...

You ask me for my evidence,, simple,,,,
No,once again, you've given me "reasons for his failure".
My point was this..................................
What evidence have you seen from RAC that indicates he will make a SUCCESSFULL NFL head coach?
I mean surely in over two years there has been "some evidence" that he's NFL head coaching material?
ie.......
Good half time adjustments? Team playing every down for four quarters regardless of the score? Game planning for your oponent?
You know, signs that give you just cause to have reason to believe he will be successfull as an NFL head coach.
I realise he's had a tough road to hoe. That goes without saying. But shouldn't there be evidence on his behalf to lead us to believe he's at least headed in the right direction?
Before I seriously, objectively looked hard at that question,I felt much like you. But after pondering on that one for a while, the picture got much clearer, unfortunately.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Don't make crap up like he has had 33 games.
I never said he had 33 games....and to be honest...I hope he doesn't.
Sorry man....our standards are far apart.
I expect better than this at this point....and we got punked last week....and that is on the coach or it is on Savage.
Which one is the problem...you tell me since you seem to think you know it all.
Who??

No, I have given you information to indicate that dumping him now is premature. THere is NO evidence that shows he can or will be successful,, There is NO evidence to the contrary either,, at least not worth anything to me.
Pit, I don't have a crystal ball, I'm thinking you don't either.
So all we are doing is guessing using whatever means we chose to believe, You say he can't be successful because he hasn't been.. I say he hasn't been because he's had lousy talent.. I think I'm right.. but I don't knowfor sure if you are wrong...
Thus my reasoning that in a few weeks we should see some improvement.. in not, I'll help you tie him to the back of a bumper hitch and we'll let Peen drive him out of town... How's that

Thats what makes me bummed about the whole thing. He is the perfect guy to get behind as a coach. He just isnt getting it done. I
f we see an about face this week than I will be willing to take it week by week as long as I am seeing SOMETHING. But the utterly ridiculous showing last week was the last straw for me and I just dont have a single instance since he has been here to even make me think that should continue to support him. Maybe last week was rock bottom for this team & organization (?) but I have felt that way on more than one occasion since he has had the reins and I just dont see him changing.
His ONLY hope is if when Quinn gets his shot on the field and gives us some damn stability. If he shows me that he was a victim of personnel and and a lack of execution at the QB, and it isnt a lack of coaching that is responsible for the teams cumulative malaise, than things might change.
The thing about QB stability and belief in the coach is that THE thing that will change the way this teams belief in each other. At the same time there is the question of why no veteran QB has been brought in for this team and the singular blame for that is still unclear.
I have posted several words in all CAPS. I am not sure if Diam and his CAPS have finally gotten to me or that I just agree with too much of what he says. Either way it isnt looking good for me.
I am still going this sunday.

There is very little substantial reasoning that says we should fire him. Now, as for ridiculous mongering, well, unfortunately there is plenty of that.

With respect, I overrule. Much evidence has been presented.
Present to me the evidence that mitigates RAC and shows he has made progress.

A coach needs more than two years to prove whether or not he can coach. But go ahead and keep advocating your ridiculous changes Peenie.

Have you seen any?

Wow, two whole years. Look, its been said; the first year we overachieved. And our second year saw a numerous personnel problems that don't necessarily fall on the HC. Two OC, numerous O-lineman. Oh yea, did I mention that we are in the AFC North---arguably one of the best divisions in football. A division that has gotten better--first from 06-07, then from 07-08. So it's really no wonder we didn't perform as well---but here in CTown we just want to fire people and start over---its kind of what we do. Until we get some continuity in coaching and personnel---we aren't going to go anywhere. RAC should get two more years, enough time for BQ to realize his potential and our FO to get the right players on the field.

I think most people agree that there is not as much progress as we'd hoped for. the disagreement is that not everyone feels it is all rac's fault.
