Obviously the term god means something different to you then me. Have a great day. Love you.
You have a great day as well. I envy your faith. It made things much simpler in many ways and provided comfort. Unfortunately, for me, too many things don't seem to add up. (Another reason as much as I find myself bound by math/logic, I find myself disliking them.) I'm not sure how different our meanings are. Believing is where we part ways. I find myself in the Agnostic camp these days. No hard feelings, though.

“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
I didn’t make a mistake bro ... your opinion is not the be all end all anywhere but in your household ... maybe one day you’ll realize that
Oh yes, Trump is a piece of crap. An immoral POS. Even you know that. He isn't fit to be president. He works hard at nothing but dividing this country. He's the biggest narcissist I've ever seen.

I have debated posting this as a thread, as I don't want it end up like most threads do with finger pointing and name calling, but I wanted to some of you know, I hear you. Now more than ever - when it comes to racism in America. I still think there a lot of people that just like to point a finger and go straight to that card, but I truly now understand why POC do after last night.
My cousin Becky is white, she is much older than I am. Shes actually only a year younger than my mom (her dad, my moms brother, was 25 years older than her). Becky has children (my 2nd cousins) that now have children themselves (my third cousins). Becky's children are mixed, as are their children (they would be 25% white). I don't get to spend much time with them (they are my age) but we try to get together every once in awhile. Yesterday I said I was going to be in there area and text them if they wanted to meet at the store I was going to be at to hang out. One of the girls (Becky's girls are twins) came out with her 2 daughters (11 and 5). We spent a few hours shopping and catching up. It was nice to see them and the kids. I hadn't seen them in a few months.
We were walking to our cars and this younger kid was backing up while looking at his phone and almost hit my cousin and her daughter. She slapped his car trunk to get his attention, and he stopped. She said to him (actually very nicely and calmly - I would have been flipping out) "hey man, you need to be careful and pay attention you almost hit my kids and me". I was on the other right side of the lot about 15 feet away, and started to walk over. The 11 year old chuckled and the kid says "WTF is your problem! You need to control your Monkey kids I am not the right person for her to laugh at!" At this time I started to run over as I was fully prepared to go to jail. He then started to take off, screaming our the window "your effin' N-lover to me, you effin' C-word N-word to her and the kids, etc." I was able to get a good kick in and dent his side door. I continued to chase him but in my rage I didn't think enough to get the plate number. I looked back after he took off and saw the sheer terror in my little cousins sweet, innocent eyes, crying. My cousin told me the entire way home, if she saw a black car she asked if that was the bad man. My heart sunk. These are good girls. And the sweetest, most well behaved children I have ever met.
I swear to god, I am lucky I didn't catch him. I honestly with every bone in my body would have ended his life if I did.
The store had cameras outside, but they couldn't get the plate number either. My cousin didn't want to file a police report, I asked why? She said "what good would it do. they ain't gonna find him." I guess she's right, no plate, grainy video, no one was hurt, etc.
It def. put things into perspective for me. I truly believe that the vast majority of people are good people and not racist. But as the saying goes, "1 bad apple. . ." I can now understand how a person of color would have reservations when it comes towards white people, especially if this is the a common occurrence in their lives.
I guess I just had to get this story off my chest. I just wanted to say....well, IDK. Theres nothing really I can say or do. I am not trying to pander to anyone or anything like that. I just....I just don't know lol. I am not trying to say I am "woke" now or anything like that. I guess it was just an eye opening experience for me.
I am not of the types of guys that think racism didn't exist like others may try to portray, but I certainly never have experienced so blatantly, so hurtful, and so threatening like that before. Unless it hits home to someone you care about right in front of your face, I fear those that do believe it doesn't exist- will never understand or change their mind about it. To those that think its just finger pointing, and way to control a conversation, in some cases....it maybe. But in a lot of cases, it is a very real and daily occurrence in some people's lives.
Anyway, I just wanted to share this story with the board. I hope that this doesn't become a "its trump fault" or "Hilary was the one that said predators" type of comment.
I truly just want people to think about this, and understand - that what you think is just a way to silence people, truly is a daily fear for others. Maybe I am "woke" now after this. And if I am, well damn I surely apologize to anyone I was "sleeping" on.
Do not expect a response from me if you do not provide anything of substance from this post, either. I will not start a argument, I do not want to point fingers or start a divide. I am simply sharing a horrifying experience that a few little girls I care deeply about suffered last night in front my own eyes. An experience that more than likely they will never forget, and has probably left a scar on them for the rest of beautiful lives.
We have to be better than this, people. We NEED to be better than this. I thought, we were better than this. I thought wrong.
Thanks for sharing. I can understand your rage and feelings in the moment, it wouldn't matter what the catalyst was, anyone verbally attacking my family or close friends would illicit the same reaction.
I've got a nickel that says many people will confirm this sort of thing is commonplace and that in a similar situation they'd not worry about trying to confront or escalate the situation. I think there's a minority that are like the guy in that car, but I think these things happen in every town and city in every state ever day.
The more things change the more they stay the same.
I've often said that I simply think it's hard for some people to relate to this type of thing unless it's a part of their life. It's hard for some to fathom just how much of an impact it can have in the life of people of color.
While I am sorry you had to go through something like that, it makes situations like this real to you. And I think if more people had such experiences it would help them to better understand the issue.

Sadly, I fear you are correct.
My only hope is that I and others can provide those little girls with enough support and love that they don't view all white people like that from now on. I certainly can now understand why some POC have reservations, or a distrust if you will of white people. Something like last night to a 5 year old, that's not going to go away. Its going to be ingrained into those kids for their lives. Sadly, it probably will not be the last time it happens to them.
The only thing that can defeat hate like that, is love.
but ill be damned if a punch in the teeth wouldn't have made that dude think twice the next time. Man I wish could have had the chance

I think you're doing more good posting your experience here. It will reach more people in constructive ways.
Had you succeeded in rearranging his Chicklet collection, he'd most probably learn nothing of value from the encounter. One side-benefit: his bigoted spew would be less intelligible without teeth to help form consonants. I mean, you can't form words that begin with "N" if your tongue has no teeth as backing.
I’m always a firm believer that only experience will show the truth. You saw the worst of the worst.
It hurts me that people can be like that. I do wonder all the time what makes people turn out like that?
Thanks for sharing. Glad you stand up to that nonsense.
It comes down to expectations and first impressions. Many insular groups teach their young to expect the worst from other groups. Those expectations lead those growing group members to see the worst in people. The people they are seeing can see that expectation and often react accordingly reinforcing the belief.
It's not only a one way thing, though. African Americans or Asians or Caucasians or any other group can be raised with the same "self-fulfilling" expectations. I tend to try to judge people on a case by case basis and even then acknowledge I am working with limited information and not set anything in stone. I was fortunate and grew up playing sports and making friends with people of various backgrounds. However, I imagine if I'd been from an all white community and my first exposure to African Americans was from walking through a "bad" part of Canton, I'd have had a decidedly different outlook.
While I understand angry responses to blatant displays of racism, they don't do anything to improve "race relations." Violence begets more violence.
Someone needs to step up and be willing to stop that cycle.
That situation does definitely suck, and I too would have felt angry, I'm not trying to say otherwise.
You mess with the "Bull," you get the horns. Fiercely Independent.
Once again, I can't help but notice how people react to stories that are about racism. They are horrified and draw attention to a story that is about a victim of their particular race. They create the illusion that this is the norm for all members of each race. Yet, when the other race is the victim, they either completely ignore it or denounce the person who brings the story to their attention.
I don't think people who take the above views really want racial equality or care to mend the fences. They simply want to continue the hate for the other side and portray themselves as victims.
It's odd. A white person professes an experience that shocked him, upset him and didn't expect. Yeah, I guess willit must ne slanted in his viewpoint. To pretend that both whites and blacks experience the same treatment in today's society seems disingenuous at best.
I don't like racist or bigoted actions or words from any race. But anyone who thinks that the black community as a whole doesn't live that reality on a daily basis doesn't seem to grasp what's really going on out there.
Once you can let me know what white people were taught by their parents to place their hands on the dash when they get pulled over to protect themselves from being shot, I'll be all ears.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
Well, if you go to any gun basics class, they will always tell you to keep your hands on the wheel when you get pulled over.
Thats just common sense. And not race related. Dont act like an idiot when you get pulled over.
Love, Eve <- white girl who was pulled over and car searched on a marine base while marines aimed fully automatic weapons at her from a tree stand. Yessssss...I am soooo dangerous, that my name should be Baker Mayfield.
East Coast. I am guessing Parris Island. I dont really remember.
And yes, something happened. 9/11 It was right after that when my Bro joined the marines. So, military bases were especially paranoid around that time frame.
I previously worked on Quantico Marine Base, and got pulled over from time to time and never got my car searched or guns aimed at me. But I also had an FBI ID then, so....
Once again, you are purposely misinterpreting my intent. I do not have anything against what will posted. It's a story. I did not mention him. I mentioned the reactions.
I have spoken out against the racial bias that blacks have faced many times. Hell, I was suspended for it for over a month because people got upset that I said that systemic racism is a real problem on how we judge people. Yet somehow, people actually call others racist on this board every freaking day and don't get suspended. But...that's another story.
Here is my point, Pit. And please don't ignore it and change my intent around yet again.
I see things in everyday life. There are blatant racists on both sides. I think they are easy to identify and dismiss.
It's the subtle underbelly of racism that troubles me. For example, one person can make a comment or do something crazy and he is just "being himself" or isn't a "cookie cutter" at his particular job. He might be referred to as "fun loving." Then a black person says and/or acts in a similar manner and they are a "distraction," "unstable," "a troublemaker," "a problem," etc
I despise that.
On the other hand, I see the same things by some posters on this board that are on the other side. I see the same things from certain media outlets that champion the other side. I see the same things from certain politicians and citizens.
They ignore all the crimes that minorities commit and then are outraged by white crime. Sorry Pit, but they are just as bad as the racists who who condemn minority groups and excuse poor white behavior.
Two wrongs never make a right, my friend. Both groups are part of the problem.
And before you twist my words around yet again..........please respond to this comment before anything else..........
I support judging individuals by their individual actions. I not support assigning labels to groups due to the actions of others of that same group. I don't give a f... what color you are, I will support you if you behave decently. And I don't give a f... what color you are, I will call you out if you behave improperly.
If we want to be fair, nothing is one-sided in this discussion, Pit.
My drivers' ed. instructor told us that. "You get pulled over, be respectful to the cop." My parents did as well. Don't run from the cops. Don't sass them.
Look, I got my license to drive at 11 a.m. At about 6:30 pm, the cop took my license. Al Carter, Archbold Police Department. I was speeding.
In 1991, I was coming home from job training in Arkansas. I was following behind the guy I had been down there with.
Tennessee. I got pulled over for 'speeding'. Got thrown in the back of the cops car. He searched my car, as another cop showed up. I was questioned up and down, left and right. Sitting in the back of the cops car I worried about drugs being planted in my car.
I was, and am, white.
I obeyed the cop. I didn't run.
My 'speeding' got me no ticket. Nothing. I was young, in a new car, and wore my hat backward.
I can't imagine I'd be here if I lipped off, or ran from the cop. So, I've been there.
Now, go ahead and poo poo this since I'm not a minority.

I don't know if I missed something - are you suggesting that based on your story, police never treat African Americans differently than whites? That there aren't racist and bad cops? I'm not sure what Pit said that made you write this story.
Your story is similar to a story I heard on the radio from an African American - he told the same story about being told by his parents (40+ years ago) to be respectful if he ever got stopped by the police - he also was told to make sue he placed both hands so the cop could see them at all times, I think he said he was told to hold the place both hands on the open window. Sort of the same as your story but a little more chilling - or do you think this guy making things up?

No. I'm not suggesting that. At all.

I was relaying a similar story to the story you heard. That was the point. His story was a little darker or sinister because that family obviously felt the need to go beyond just respectful.
What was your point - as I said, I didn't see what triggered your story and what you intended by it. If I missed something while reading the thread let me know.

Hopefully I haven't given any indication that as individuals we shouldn't each be judged by our actions or what we say.
The bigger point I'm trying to make here is that a certain portion of our society holds the power. For the most part they control the money. And as little 50 or so years ago one portion of our society had to fight for their civil rights. For me to pretend there would be no animus involved here due to those factors would be disingenuous.
While I do think we should all be judged as individuals I think one has to look at the history and even some of the current circumstances and consider the motivation.

I don't believe the rationale for that discussion was due to the possibility you would be shot and killed. And the last time I checked, running from the cops did not carry a death penalty. Accept in some cases it appears it does.
You're a funny guy arch. You make it sound like you've been treated so badly.
I wish you could actually walk in someone elses shoes for a while so you could understand how silly that all sounds.

I agree w/this and have made similar statements hundreds of times on this board. That will never change. It's understood.
But again, I was talking about something else. There are many nuances to topics such as racism. It would be a mistake to only throw one blanket over the entire issue.
In a blow against those that perceive racism everwhere:
Poll of Native Americans’ view of Redskins name finds “proud” most common answer Posted by Michael David Smith on August 10, 2019, 7:34 AM EDT
A new survey has found that Native Americans are more likely to be proud than offended by the name of the Washington Redskins.
The survey, as reported by the Washington Post, asked 500 people who identify as Native American to pick from a list of words which one best described their feelings about the Redskins name. The word most picked was “proud.”
Following “proud” came “indifferent,” “annoyed,” “content,” “satisfied” and “disappointed.”
The Washington Post did not publish the full results of the survey, so we do not know what percentage of respondents offered each response, but regarding the word “proud,” the Washington Post reports that “most of the survey’s respondents felt that way.”
These results echo those of a 2016 poll that found that only 9 percent of Native Americans described themselves as offended by the Redskins name, while 90 percent said it did not bother them.
Daniel Snyder celebrated that poll and will no doubt celebrate this one, as evidence continues to mount that the majority of Native Americans are not pressuring him to change his team’s name.
And that's a problem. The problem becomes that when people try to find racism everywhere, it causes some people to refuse to see racism anywhere.
So, if 90% of polled AINs are proud of the name, it's still racist because a small minority says it is?
No ... you are talking about a specific example and saying "LOOK NO RACISM" ... but there is racism all over the place every day in lots of people's lives. Willet just gave an example. . . . . just because you feel too many call 'racism' too often when not appropriate - which I agree with - does NOT mean that racism is not alive and thriving.
The more things change the more they stay the same.
No, I don't think it is. And like I said, that's why people seem not to listen when something is racist. I've said this many times but it seems to need repeated.
It's like "The Boy Who Cried Wolf". Once people keep hearing the wolf is coming when it's not, nobody seems to believe when it's really there.
