I think the big knock on DeValve was durability, to be honest. He seemed to always have something different each week. Liked him as a player, but ya gotta answer the bell.

I agree. While most cam pick and this move or that move, it's hard to say the overall job hasn't been excellent.

While I feel very comfortable with Freddie, I agree, this is where the rubber meets the road.

Go Browns.

So happy we kept the Hammer! I think this kid is going to be good for a long time. Colquitt deserves props for the job he done, but there is something special about this kid.

Dolphins agree to trade LB Kiko Alonso to Saints

Print
By Jelani Scott NFL.com

Less than 24 hours after making a blockbuster trade on cutdown day, the Miami Dolphins have made yet another move.

http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000001...lonso-to-saints

Linebacker Kiko Alonso has been traded to the Saints in exchange for linebacker Vince Biegel, per NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport and NFL Network's Tom Pelissero.

Alonso, 29, spent the past three seasons in Miami and amassed 355 tackles, six forced fumbles, 11 pass deflections, five interceptions and one sack in that span. Solid numbers for a player at his position but perhaps more impressive is the fact that Alonso started 46 of a possible 48 regular season games.

A second-round draft pick by the Bills in 2013, Alonso put together an impressive rookie campaign -- 159 tackles, two sacks, four pass deflections, four interceptions -- before being sidelined all of the 2014 season after tearing his ACL in the offseason. He was traded to the Eagles for LeSean McCoy the following year where he played in only 11 games before being dealt to the Dolphins in 2016.

Biegel, 26, was drafted in the fourth round by the Packers in 2017 and played nine games that season after dealing with a foot injury. He was waived prior to the start of last season and claimed by the Saints where he joined the practice squad before eventually being promoted to the active roster. Biegel appeared in 14 games in 2018 and contributed four tackles.

Alonso will be on his 4th team in about 6 years IIRC ... can’t stick in one spot

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

One of the top 3 dirtiest players in the NFL - IMO. Suh, Burfict, and Alonso.

From the PD site:

The TE sounds interesting.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns claimed linebacker Malik Jefferson, wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge and tight end Ricky Seals-Jones. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero was the first to report and a league source confirmed the claims for cleveland.com.

Corresponding moves have not been announced to accommodate the three spots on the roster.

Jefferson was waived by the Bengals on Saturday. The 22-year-old linebacker is 6-foot-2, 241 pounds and in his second season. Cincinnati picked him in the third round in 2018. In 12 games, he had 10 tackles.

Hodge played in 14 games for the Rams last season. An undrafted rookie out of Prairie View A&M caught two passes for 17 yards and appeared in all three of the Rams’ playoff games, including the Super Bowl. Hodge is 6-foot-2, 205 pounds.

Seals-Jones, 6-foot-5 and 243 pounds, appeared in 25 games over two seasons with Arizona. He has 46 career catches for 544 yards and four touchdowns. He played at Texas A&M.

Jefferson has some athleticism as a LB ... RSJ is a very good athlete as well, but can’t block. Never heard of Hodge

Browns claim LB Malik Jefferson, TE Ricky Seals-Jones, WR KhaDarel Hodge off waivers

Browns General Manager John Dorsey said he would continue to turn over stones and look for ways to improve the roster after cutting it down to 53 players Saturday.

And the ultra-aggressive player personnel executive is never kidding when he says that.

On Sunday, the Browns claimed three players off waivers — linebacker Malik Jefferson from the Cincinnati Bengals, tight end Ricky Seals-Jones from the Arizona Cardinals and wide receiver KhaDarel Hodge from the Los Angeles Rams.

Jefferson, Seals-Jones and Hodge were released by their former teams Saturday. The claiming period for players who were cut then expired at noon Sunday, and Dorsey remained active at yet another deadline. The Browns have yet to announce their corresponding transactions.

Jefferson, 22, is intriguing because he's an athletic freak who flamed out in a hurry with the Bengals despite being drafted in the third round (78th overall) last year by their previous regime.

A University of Texas product, Jefferson posted a time of 4.52 seconds in the 40-yard dash at last year's NFL Scouting Combine, where he weighed in at 236 pounds. But it takes more than rare speed to succeed in the NFL, and the Cincinnati Enquirer described Jefferson as often looking lost while attempting to execute assignments last summer during training camp and the preseason.

That's the common explanation for why Jefferson played just 11 defensive snaps, according to the Bengals' count, before he suffered a foot injury on Dec. 16 against the Oakland Raiders and landed on injured reserve two days later. He played mostly specials teams as a rookie, finishing third among Bengals with seven special teams tackles. He appeared in 12 games and was inactive in two others.

Dorsey's decision to release backup linebacker Ray-Ray Armstrong on Saturday was considered a mild surprise because the veteran was expected to be a core special teams player. Now the Browns can use Jefferson in a similar fashion with the hope of developing him into something more.

Seals-Jones, 24, has the most NFL experience among the three players the Browns claimed Sunday, and he has pedigree, too. His cousin is Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Eric Dickerson.

The 6-foot-5, 243-pound Seals-Jones has started six of the 25 games in which he's appeared and compiled 46 catches for 544 yards and four touchdowns in two seasons. He signed with the Cardinals in 2017 as an undrafted rookie free agent from Texas A&M University, where he played wide receiver and was a teammate of Browns defensive end Myles Garrett.

When Seals-Jones joined the Cardinals, Browns coach Freddie Kitchens was their running backs coach. Last season, Seals-Jones started five of his 15 games and caught 34 passes for 343 yards and a touchdown.

"I want to thank the Arizona Cardinals, Mr. Bidwell, Mr. Keim, and most of all the Cardinal Fans for taking a chance on me!" Seals-Jones wrote Sunday on Twitter. "I will miss the organization, teammates, and coaches. It's a new chapter and I'm ready to be apart of something special. Let's go Browns!! #DawgPound."

Like Seals-Jones, tight end Seth DeValve thanked his former team Sunday on social media. The Jacksonville Jaguars claimed DeValve, a 2016 fourth-round draft pick, off waivers from the Browns. He's the only player Dorsey cut Saturday who was claimed.

"Thank you to the @Browns for my first opportunity in the NFL!" DeValve, who tallied 48 catches for 596 yards and four touchdowns in three seasons with the Browns, wrote on Twitter and Instagram. "Cleveland is an incredible city with incredible people. I will never forget my time spent here, the connections I made with the community, and the friendships I built. Excited for the next chapter in Jacksonville!"

Hodge, 24, signed with the Rams last year as an undrafted rookie free agent from Prairie View A&M University.

The 6-2, 205-pound Hodge primarily contributed on special teams for the NFC Champion Rams, appearing in 14 regular-season games and all three of their playoff games, including a 13-3 loss to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LIII.

He had four special teams tackles in the regular season and one more in a 26-23 win over the New Orleans Saints in the NFC title game. He registered two catches for 17 yards in the regular season.

Ricky Seals-Jones is an upside play. He was one of the highest rated wide receivers coming out of high school and didn't produce much at Texas A&M. My guess is that he won't be around long.

DeShone Kizer got claimed by the Raiders. They now have four QBs. Gruden is doing it again.

#Browns Practice Squad 6 of 10 now
1-TE Stephen Carlson
1-LB Willie Harvey
1-OG Willie Wright
2-DB's Robert Jackson, J.T. Hassell
1-WR Derrick Willies

I don't foresee the Browns keeping 2 WR’s on the practice squad

They have three and DeShone. Did anybody tell them preseason is over? Kizer would be a cruel joke IMO. What does him being added possibly address?

Gruden trying to collect 'em all and trade with his friends?

Remains to be seen. I hope we get a platoon of misfits that carry us through the war soon.

Our coaching coordination with Dorsey's revolving door is challenging, I suspect. Who needs what the most? Hoping we coach the up some.

Welcome aboard, newbies! Good luck! Win us some games.

Yes and no.

Sure, it's easy to cut and trade players. It isn't easy to survive the repercussions.

Losing for the better good is a hard process for those making the decisions.

Those who took the sword made it easier for those who followed.

I love having John Dorsey, and am totally happy he has been making the picks, but he has had a lot of good picks at the expense of others sacrifice.

He has done a tremendous job. But it can't be denied he inherited a good situation as a starting point.

I am not sticking up for anyone here, but the only way to turn it around quickly was to tank a few season.

I hope this “loophole” works. With the shortage of capable left tackles in the league I hope the Browns extend him for next season as well.

First Post! Don’t beat me up too hard.
