I find it very sad yet also revealing that adults cast doubt and cynicism on teens who simply want a better world & future and actively campaign for it. Strangely, many of those adults also come from the same generation that literally did the same thing 50+ years ago and protested Vietnam and fought for Civil Rights. Yet, they now question the motives of the Parkland teens and Greta. Rather, we should admire her for using her privilege and speaking out for those who can't and those who the world has turned their backs on.
What I find very sad is that you want to force this globel warming crap down young folks throats without letting them think for themselves. You want them to eat up the crap your spewing instead of letting them do their own research.
Let them do their own research while your side denies, alters, and smears the science behind the facts? Stop.
These kids have to live with the consequences either way. Our way they address the issue, worst case scenario money wasted and a cleaner world. Your way they ignore the facts, ignore the issue, worst case scenario they live horrible lives as they watch mass extinction on earth while scrambling to survive, if that is even possible. But hey, at least it won't be uncomfortable to old coots like us who will be long dead anyway.

Excuse me but I am on my own side. No help or support from you Chicken little folks, or from the deniers. I believe you are BOTH wrong. I have no problem taking you both on as I will win anyway.
Maybe man's contribution is insignificant, you willing to wager the futures of your children and grandchildren that all of the scientists are wrong? Or do you think that maybe we should hedge that bet?
You DO realize I'm not for pollution, right? Let's get that established, okay?
Here's what science says: The earth has warmed and cooled since for ever.
I distinctly remember, back in the 70's, the imminent ice age we were facing. Didn't happen.
In fact, now it's warming - an imminent death for billions of people, all because of fossil fuel. In fact, according to Cortez, we only have 12 years left before we all die.
All the gov't. needs is more money.
Al Gore started ruining the money grab. Some today are continuing it.
People (some) generally forget that - get this - the earth has warmed and cooled since it was called "earth", according to science.
Even before the industrial age. Even before cars, and electricity, and coal, and all the bad things.
SHHH They will all tell you that you are wrong. Even if it is a fact that your right. They can cry, scream, pout, and act like babies, yet the truth is that what you typed they can not deny.
she's gonna need security cause some right wing MAGA hatter will try to bomb her.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”

Oh yeah, showing our children that rising sea levels are happing all over the world right now while our leaders send innocent soldiers into harms way to fight wars for fossil fuels is crap! How dare you. Our children are dying in wars for fossil fuel that we so desperately need to feed co2 into the sky for some reason.
"The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants." Thomas Jefferson.
This should be a wildly popular stance, but the insincerity and insensitivity of both sides is disgusting.
One side is mocking children and the other side is pretending they care about children. Both sides are using children to win some argument where no one wants to learn a damn thing and wants to impose their will on others.
I read this board. In many cases they are. They're smart enough to realize you don't wait until it's too late to try and save the planet. They seem smart enough to grasp one of Newton's basic principals that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Others? They seem to think you can keep trashing the planet's air and nothing happens because of that.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
When the children are smarter than a lot of the adults, it seems only logical to point that out.
And a child shall lead them....
But the children are not smarter.
depends on who they're compared to.
certainly smarter than trump, who thinks wind turbines causes cancer.
“To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.”
I am embarrassed for adults who think we "have to save the planet". Either they are so brainwashed or they are completely misinformed about whether the planet needs "saving".
The planet is not going anywhere, and neither are we.
Climate change happened all throughout the existence of the planet. In the 1970's people thought we were having another ice age. 30 years from now it may be another ice age.
So you are saying that for every action there isn't an equal and opposite reaction? That there are no consequences for trashing our air. That poor decisions have no consequences? Because that sure sounds like what a lot of you keep saying.

People are so gullible.
Are you serious? Or, am I misunderstanding you?
You think it was okay to pour raw sewage into our lakes and rivers? You think it was okay to pollute our air w/toxic chemicals? You think it was okay to raze our forests? You think it was okay to have strip mining ravaging our country? You think it was/is okay to have garbage piling up and allowing diseases to wipe out millions of people?
I could go on, but the point is made. Saving the planet is actually a good thing and thinking that does not make one gullible.
You think it was okay to pour raw sewage into our lakes and rivers?
No one is saying that.

No one is saying any of that. At least that I know of.
Things like you just mentioned is what makes it so hard to have a discussion on this topic of Man made global warming, which changed to man made climate change, which then changed to just climate change.
No one is saying "pollute pollute pollute all you want."
Facts: The earth has warmed and cooled since for ever. It will continue to do so.
As more humans use more power/need more power - what do we do? We cut down PARTS of forests, and we replant trees. At least in the first world.
We find oil - which no matter how you slice it - is needed for the world. We build wind turbines, we put in solar panels. We get rid of pollution as best we can.
I don't see anyone saying "Ya know, my s.u.v. uses too much gas, so I'll buy an electric vehicle which still needs power plants to run it. And I drive too much, and I don't need my house a/c set at 70 in the warm months, and I don't need my heat set at 75 in the cold months.
It's always "someone else needs to do something."
Remember when paper bags were deemed part of the problem? We moved to plastic bags, which is now the problem.
Water from the tap isn't good enough, we need bottled water, that comes in plastic bottles.
We can, and should, do our part. So should the rest of the world.
Look at your life - not necessarily YOU, vers - everyone.
Fast food everywhere - and we drive to get it. Water from the tap? No, bottled water. Plastic packaging for everything. New construction everywhere - using wood. Fracking - making the u.s. close to energy independent - frowned on.
Where I live, apparently at some point long long ago, it used to be part of what we now call Lake Erie. Under water. Then it became what was called the "Black Swamp" All of this way, way before any industrial revolution could be blamed for it.
Shoot, a long time ago, people used to go to any body of water that was frozen, in the winter, and cut up huge slabs of ice, store them in the barn with hay piled over them for insulation, and they would use that ice all summer.
People have changed - we want IT (whatever IT is), now.
The earth was warmed and cooled forever. Some scientists even think much of the land of the world was connected at some point.
Not ranting, just talking, and especially not directly towards you.
So you are saying that for every action there isn't an equal and opposite reaction? That there are no consequences for trashing our air.
No, there is. the planet has more trees on it than it did 35 years ago. Despite clearing in the rain forest and clearing for economic reasons.. we have more trees.
I haven't read this entire thread, so I may have misinterpreted him. I even asked him if I did.
But he said "save the planet." I think all of those things I mentioned help save the planet. I wasn't arguing if the planet has heated/cooled in the past or will in the future. Truth is, I don't know. Thus, I won't speak on the issue.
I'm just saying that humans can do a lot to help save the planet and they should be doing those things. That's my opinion on the matter.
We've been hearing the world is ending because of climate change for 30+ years now. Yet, we're still here. When the climate alarmists make wrong prediction after wrong prediction, people are going to wonder what the big emergency is.
For instance, hurricane katrina. Climate alarmists told us katrina was caused by climate change and because of climate change, storms this powerful would become the norm. Then we went 9 years without seeing a cat 5 hurricane.
There's nothing wrong with pursuing clean energy options. There's benefits to it. Maybe if they focused on the benefits instead of using the doom and gloom fear mongering, they would get more people on board. You catch more flies with honey.
It's supposed to be hard! If it wasn't hard, everyone would do it. The hard... is what makes it great!
Greta gets a lot of the media attention, much of that will come down to her own privilege but there are many others like her all across the world and cultures who are doing their part who haven't had quite as much coverage. Let's meet some youth environmentalists of color from all over the world:
And...I wish those who are relying on the "earth warms and cools throughout history" rationale as the basis of their argument realize that the Science understands this and takes it into consideration. However, it has never warmed this rapidly THAT is the worry. It is spiking quicker than ever especially since the Industrial Revolution, but in particular in the last few decades, which coincides with India and China's rise and the growing population on the planet as well as the excessive demands on non-renewable and dirty energy sources.
Oh, and plastic is a terrible material. The problem is it is used for EVERYTHING. Even grocers that are "right on" haven't been able to break away from plastic (Trader Joe's). To go single use plastic free at the grocery is very hard and very expensive. Although Oregon banned plastic grocery bags a while ago we still do our part...when we get our fruits and veg we never bag them. We also have 6-7 reusable hemp bags we take into our grocery store and bag our groceries with them.
Bottled water? Don't even get me started. I will say though, that it's obviously a necessity in places like Flint or other parts of the world, but by and large...it's all about profit.

And the irony behind that is that when I was younger, it was the environmentalists who were screaming that we needed to go to plastic grocery bags because paper bags were killing trees.. plastic was cheaper and it was recyclable...
