MSNBC cuts from Trump speech: 'We hate to do this, really, but the president isn't telling the truth'MSNBC cut from President Trump’s press conference on Wednesday, claiming the president was repeating lies about his political rival Joe Biden as a “deflection” from the impeachment inquiry. “We hate to do this, really, but the president isn’t telling the truth,” MSNBC host Nicole Wallace said as the network cut from Trump’s speech. “These allegations against Joe Biden and Hunter Biden that he’s repeating have been investigated by the Ukrainians. ... The Wall Street Journal included in their report on Friday that the Ukrainians view this issue as having been investigated and adjudicated,” Wallace said. Trump’s press conference followed Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-Calif.) Tuesday announcement that the House would launch a formal impeachment inquiry into Trump. “What’s amazing is that what Trump appears to be trying to do is to turn his own impeachment into a big deflection,” Wallace said. The impeachment inquiry comes as Congress is looking into a whistleblower complaint about Trump’s call with a foreign nation. The White House released a memo Wednesday of a partial transcript of Trump’s call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that shows Trump asked the foreign leader for “a favor” before asking him to look into former Vice President Biden, a leading 2020 Democratic candidate. https://thehill.com/homenews/media/46308...nt-isnt-telling

Whistleblower complaint declassified on eve of high-stakes testimonyThe whistleblower complaint at the center of the political firestorm involving President Trump's contacts with Ukraine's leader has been declassified, a member of the House Intelligence Committee announced late Wednesday. "BREAKING NEWS: The whistleblower complaint has been declassified. I encourage you all to read it," tweeted Rep. Chris Stewart (R-Utah). Another source familiar with the matter told The Hill shortly before Stewart's announcement that the declassification process was complete. The source said that while the declassification process is completed, details about the public release of the complaint remain unclear. The complaint is also expected to have some redactions, according to the source. The complaint revolves around Trump's July 25 call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. In the call, Trump asked Zelensky to do him a "favor" and later pressed the foreign leader to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden, a leading contender for the Democratic presidential nomination, according to a readout of the call released Wednesday by the White House. House Democrats who a day earlier launched a formal impeachment inquiry saw the readout as bolstering their case. The declassification comes hours after members of the House Intelligence Committee reviewed its contents behind closed doors, and on the eve of acting Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Joseph Maguire's public testimony before the panel about his handling of the allegations. Maguire, who has argued that the complaint falls outside the intelligence community (IC) whistleblower statute, declined to initially provide the committee with the complaint after consulting with the Justice Department, a move that sparked a standoff between the DNI and Congress. IC Inspector General Michael Atkinson, who disagreed with Maguire, had deemed the allegations both credible and urgent and raised the handling of the complaint behind closed doors with the intelligence committees earlier this week. Republicans and Democrats left the closed-door hearing offering differing accounts of the same document. Democrats described the complaint as "deeply troubling" and "concerning," but they offered little more about the nature of the allegations regarding Trump's efforts. Republicans, on the other hand, called for the complaint's public release, stating that they do not believe Trump committed an impeachable offense. "I do not support impeachment of President Trump,” Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.), a member of the House Intelligence Committee, tweeted. “I have just read the whistleblower complaint made available to House Intelligence Committee Members. I believe strongly in transparency and it should be immediately declassified and made public for the American people to read.” Other GOP members have said that while they find the complaints concerning, the partial transcript makes clear there was no quid pro quo offered by Trump, who had delayed military aid to Ukraine in the weeks before his call with Zelensky. https://thehill.com/policy/national-secu...-stakes-maguire

Zelensky adviser says Biden case was precondition to Trump phone callAn adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told ABC News on Wednesday that President Trump's desire for the two leaders to discuss a possible investigation into Joe Biden was a precondition for their now-infamous July 25 phone call. "It was clear that Trump will only have communications if they will discuss the Biden case. This issue was raised many times. I know that Ukrainian officials understood." — Serhiy Leshchenko Why it matters: The phone call has resulted in a formal impeachment inquiry being launched against Trump, despite the president's insistence that he did nothing wrong and that there was no "quid pro quo" involved in his request. On Wednesday, Zelensky said at the UN that he did not feel pressed by Trump and that he does not want to be involved in U.S. elections. https://www.axios.com/zelensky-ukraine-t...077fc4025a.html

It will be interesting over the next few days.
I think that the big difference is that Trump is directly involved. Not his son, or the campaign.
Having Rudy involved makes it a campaign issue.
Mentioning Barr as a collaborator is a problem as well.
Tomorrow I want to see how the acting DNI (McGuire) responds to the why did you consult with DOJ and/or White House to come up with the “it is not applicable to send to Congress.” From what I have seen he was only allowed to attach commentary and required to forward to Congress in 7 days.
My guess is he may pleads mercy as he inherited the mess.
The circle will get bigger before it gets smaller.
I still wonder if Coates and/or Bolton bailed because they caught wind of what was going on.
Welcome back, Joe, we missed you!

This story on Palmer Report was also interesting. GOP Senate hits the panic button as Donald Trump’s impeachment gets underwayNancy Pelosi and the House Democrats are set to announce any minute now that they’re impeaching Donald Trump over his criminal attempt at conspiring with the president of Ukraine to alter the outcome of the 2020 election. Even as this plays out, House Intel Committee Chairman Adam Schiff has announced that the whistleblower now wants to testify to the committee as soon as this week. This leaves the Republican Senate in a very tricky place. They know Donald Trump committed one of the most serious crimes imaginable. They know the proof is going to come out. They know that most Americans are going to end up agreeing that Trump should be impeached. Sooner or later they’ll have to vote on whether to remove Trump from office, or to censure him, or to acquit him. Several of these GOP Senators are up for reelection in 2020 – and they’ll have to answer for their impeachment vote at that time. Democratic Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer presented a resolution this afternoon calling for the full whistleblower complaint about Trump’s phone call to Ukraine to be immediately released, every single Republican Senator – including Mitch McConnell voted in favor of it. This resolution is non-binding, but it certainly places additional pressure on Trump to release the complaint. Suffice it to say that this vote is not what Trump was hoping for. And yet we’re now in a place where Donald Trump has become so toxically radioactive, Senate Republicans are clearly worried about the fallout landing on them. Their vote today on the complaint is a sign that, at the least, they’re panicked enough to realize that they have to try to cover their own backsides, even if it means doing so at Trump’s expense. https://www.palmerreport.com/analysis/gop-panic-impeachment-donald-trump-underway/21072/I know it's just a blog that one guy has turned into an alternative news source, but things he talks about can be verified elsewhere. The Senate did actually vote 100-0 in favor of demanding a full release of the phone transcripts to Congress. That shows that some of these GOP Senators might not be willing to acquit Trump if the facts show his guilt. Imagine the return of an honest GOP choosing the country over Trump.

And there was no reach, I just read it there first. But here: Even Senate Republicans want the White House to share a whistleblower report on Trump with CongressIn a rare bipartisan move, the Senate unanimously passed a resolution calling on the White House to disclose a whistleblower complaint. https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/...leblower-report

Pre-Transcript Release, Chris Christie Argued Trump Was Only in Trouble If He Said Something Like ‘Do Me a Favor…’ By Colby Hall Sep 25th, 2019, 2:11 pm Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie proved prescient Wednesday morning on the set of Good Morning America. Just hours before the transcript of a phone call between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was released. During the 7 a.m. hour, host George Stephanopoulos turned to the exiled Trump transition leader to opine on “how serious a threat” the eventual release of the transcript presents to the President. Christie immediately downplayed the significance and dismissed the “seismic reaction” that Democrats are having, calling it an “overreaction. ”Stephanopoulos pressed his guest saying “if the president of the United States was encouraging a foreign leader to investigate a political rival, that is arguably an impeachable offense. ”But Christie brought up context to better understand what would be in the transcript before painting what would ostensibly be worst-case scenario. “For instance, if he’s saying, listen, do me a favor, go investigate Joe Biden, that’s one thing,” Christie offered, adding “If he’s saying, listen, I’m concerned about corruption, you’ve just gotten elected. we send hundreds of millions of dollars over there, you need to start looking at this, for instance, one of the things that occurred was the Hunter Biden situation, that becomes totally different. ”Guess what phrase the transcript included? Though the specific request was related to cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike, Trump did ask his Ukrainian counterpart to do him a favor. According to the transcript, Trump said “I would like you to do us a favor though because our country has been through a lot and Ukraine knows a lot about it. I would like you to find out what happened with this whole situation with Ukraine, they say CrowdStrike…” Notably, Trump never asked Zelensky to investigate Biden as a favor, but he did ask him to “look into it.” From the transcript Trump: There’s a lot of talk about Biden’s son, that Biden stopped the prosecution and a lot of people want to find out about that so whatever you can do with the Attorney General would be great. Biden went around bragging that he stopped the prosecution so if you can look into it… It sounds horrible to me. So the scenario that Chris Christie painted on GMA just hours before the transcript was released was remarkably on the nose. Just not in the way that he may have intended. link

Seems you shouldnt have to reach so hard for this topic, if it has any basis in reality. The comment section of online tweets and media stories has been "news" according to Fox and others for months and months .... how many news stories have wee seen based on taking some extreme moron's comments? There seems to be a great deal more to this story than the transcript we saw, including the instruction to remove the word for word record of this phone call and restrict access to it. Lets wait and see all the info that comes out
The more things change the more they stay the same.

Just a reminder that impeachment doesn't mean removed from office.. Bill Clinton was impeached. First you have to go through the impeachment process, then if it's serious enough you have to go through the removal from office part..
My guess is they will try to get through the impeachment proceedings but that this isn't about removing him from office.. it's about getting him impeached prior to the 2020 election..
I would also take bets from anybody who is interested that neither Trump, nor Pence ever spend a day in jail.

I am willing to wager. Trump is going to jail from the Muller case, Muller specifically said they can't charge an acting president but can charge after he leaves offices. He made that point several times.

Watching the House Intel questioning of the DNI. Nunes playing all the greatest Trumpian hits! Disgusting, I hope he goes down too. In the face of absolute corruption he still carries Trump's water like a boot licking dog.

Team Trump trying to tie this all to Biden/Clinton even though from my understanding it's been investigated and Biden was not involved in wrongdoing. The basis for the GOPer claims stem from allegations made by a corrupt Ukrainian prosecutor that was trying to protect himself and other corrupt officials from being ousted.
I find all of this hard to believe and disturbing that Trump is dragging our country through this blatantly corrupt muck. I struggle to see, with the obvious evidence and statements against Trump's actions, how any loyal to country American can attempt to protect him.

The acting DNI went to the White House first. Schiff asked, "So you went to the President, the subject of the complaint for clarification rather this should be sent to congress. Then you went to DOJ headed by Bill Barr, also a subject of the complaint?".
This guy is toast.

Joseph McGuire I think he thought he was doing what was best for the unique position he found himself in. CYA. But going to both the White HOuse and DOJ first when the law is clear that he had 7 days to send this to congress with NO exceptions in the law, he screwed up.

So I read the complaint and the transcripts.
Ummm.....looks like there’s gonna be quite a few people being summoned in front of congress. This could get really really ugly.

also, i want everybody to read the transcript, and read the complaint.
unfortunately, Trump might have pulled a Nixon, where the coverup is gonna end up being worse than the crime.
conservatives and republicans can play games with the context of the phone call. what they cant play games with is the fact that the trump administration tried to cover up the phone call by moving the electronic records to a different server/location in order to keep it from being revealed.
the phone call itself is bad. really bad. even republicans are starting to say that.
the actions taken by the administration after the call is....ugh.
nevermind the fact that he got his personal lawyer to dig up dirt. nevermind that he tried to get his AG barr to dig up dirt. nevermind that he tossed Pence under the bus, so now we gotta see what pence has been saying to ukraine.
there's not a MAGA hatter anywhere who can look at this and go "nothing to see here" or try to play whatabout.
your president is a crook.

Man. If I was ever going to be a criminal, I want to be one like this:
I get a heads up about any crime I get caught in, my people get get to work out my defense and rather or not the authorities are ever informed even when the law dictates that they are. All before anyone else is remotely given a heads up.

your president is a crook. Nothing to see here. The "whistle-blower's" complaint is no better than 2nd hand, in other words, hearsay. He was also an intern for Clinton and schiff, so he had political motivation to make his claim. Are you also trying to say that Biden and his son should not be investigated? Are we to wait until after the election? It looks like Biden got his son paid drin the Ukraine and China while he was in office. That's the crime you should be looking at. The Ukrainian president is also looking to get rid of corruption in his country, which would take both countries working together. Trump is literally the top cop in this country. Not sure how else to do this. There was no 'quid pro quo' in Trump's call. There was in Biden's deal. You can have joy behar throw her papers in the air, and say with one voice, 'we got him now', again.
