Is the idea of Belichick coming back to Cleveland totally off the table?

Brady retires, Bill takes on a new challenge....

He was DB coach in Tampa for 4 seasons. He then was DC in Minnesota for a single season. (6-10) His Minnesota defense was best against the run, and worse against the pass in the NFL. Weird.

That is worse than the kind of lack of experience people complained about here last year. However, Tomlin came into a situation ready made for a new head coach. Our team makes it all but impossible for a new HC to succeed.

How is that "the problem for the NFL"?
Who is "they" if not PoC themselves??

Mostly just being a jacka$$ here, but maybe "they" should limit the amount of PoC working on the defensive side of the ball because they are sabotaging their own future. Sounds pretty whack, doesn't it?

It seems like a bit of a reach to relate a resurgence of "offense" to job opportunities for people of color.

This is off topic to be sure, but to all of those confused by the Rooney rule. Were going to have a footrace, okay? But I am going to get a 40 yard head start. Familial wealth, better education, etc.

When you tell me it's not a fair race, I will tell you "come on, its 2020, we all run fine, you dont need any help overcoming my head start".

Best if you just steer clear of racial discourse when you dont grasp how stacked the deck is in your favor.

Yep. Which (D) candidate do I need to donate to in order to fulfill my reparation offset and be able to finally clear my conscience of all this guilt? Maybe the NFL should follow suit. Once the guilt goes away, so too can the garbage Rooney rule and teams can just hire their favorite or the most deserving candidate.

McCarthy is today? Is he the only one today?

I actually agree with you more than not.
(Tangent: Pro football might be the worst example of workplace bias/discrimination, but that's another conversation).

I agree with you that there are too few minorities in head positions. I agree with you on your 'footrace' analogy. But my hangup is the Rooney Rule, as it is. Do you really think that's the solution to your footrace issue? I say no, emphatically. For every Tomlin, there are at least 10 "well, our DC what's-his-name has darker skin than me, let's pull him into the office for 10 minutes and get this thing going.

But the real issue, for me, is trying to put myself in DC-what's-his-name's shoes. You've gotta prepare for the interview of your life... what you've been killing yourself for, with full knowledge that you're just helping them get over a speedbump so they can hire white-guy. That has GOT to suck. It's the opposite of what the Rule was intended.

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

On one hand, McCarthy's schemes did not adjust over time.

On the other, they brought in someone to scheme specifically to take advantage of Aaron Rogers and his numbers were basically identical this year with a far better team, where they invested in free agents for the first time in a long time.

2018 6-9-1 25TD 2INT
2019 13-3 26TD 4INT

So the question becomes, was it the scheme?

So while I get the knock on his offense, is the non love of McCarthy due to Aaron Rogers words or are they valid concerns?

McCarthy, Stefanski or McDaniels. I'm good with any of them but would love to hear ownership say something like, "Unless this guy dies or commits a felony we're going 5 years with him". This next coach (1 of the 3) SHOULD have some credibility and SHOULD deserve a good, long run to get this right.

I'm not sure about Stefanski. His offense wasn't all that impressive and explosive.A friend of mine is a big Vikings fan. He took a vacation to Minnesota to watch a game. He's not a big fan of Stefanski.

I'm interested in how Saleh interviews.

The expression being able to be a fly on the wall. I would love to be able to listen in on these coaches interviews.

I haven't jumped on any particular candidate as of now. Getting it right has to be now.

My fear with Urban would be he comes in..Turns the team around..everyone is excited..then in 2 seasons he walks away due to health reasons.

Then back to square one in a Coaching search.

Very interesting.

It is one of the things that we clearly lacked. A playing personality.

The Seahawks and 49er's have it. Like Stefanski they have base strategy that everything works from. The Saints are another team like that.

I love that. The reason is the players get in a grove of execution because of repetition and knowledge that it will work.

We were all over the place. Looking for gadgets trying to be clever. It is about execution. Eleven guys doing their job. One guy missing his assignment can blow up a play.

The Ravens this year did the same thing. There was always a built in run option off every offensive play.

I want McCarthy. But I like what Stefanski has done with the Vikings. He is my second choice.

I don't want Urban. Don't want Daboll. Not very interested in McDaniels.

The others seem like guys we have had before.

I doubt that. He will be working for the Browns not the Pilot Flying J Truck Stop chain. That's where felonies get committed.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Urban would be a fascinating get. This team needs a leader.

Not sure any of the potential HC candidates listed, other than McCarthy - maybe, posess that trait. Urban does, IMO.

Urban is done- he had health issues with one of the best college football teams in the country. can you imagine him coaching the worst NFL team in the last 20 years?

He would literally die on the field. which.. would be about the only thing we haven't seen as a Browns fan.

If he goes to the pro its Dallas. What a great way to up your value from Dallas than play them off against your home state Browns. He's got a Texas size ego anyway.

2 season and he's out of the league anyway. I don't want that for the Browns.
Could care less if happens to Jerry Jones.

What type off staff could Urban put together ? Not sure if he has good ties with any NFL coaches.

The FO has to hire a Coach who can bring along a strong Coaching staff.

Imo..Urban wouldn't have to many options to create that.

My only question in regards to that is does this identity and execution come directly from the HC or do you attribute it to the OC and DC?

It's entirely possible that it can vary from team to team depending on the situation. We've all seen that OC's and DC's get hired on as HC's who were former OC's and DC's from very successful teams that just never accomplish what we're talking about at the HC level.

Not to say it doesn't work the other way around sometimes because it certainly does. I'm just not sure we can attribute what we see on the field directly to those at the coordinator level.

Let's face it, it's all a crap shoot. At least from us as fans. We don't get to sit in on the interviews and if there is some secret to unlocking the answer to that question during the interview process, Haslam certainly hasn't unlocked that secret.

I'm pretty much with you on the McCarthy thing. A lot of talent was added there when McCarthy left which has impacted the W/L record. But looking at the offensive production, it really hasn't changed.

So while I do like what has been accomplished with the Vikings, I'm not sure I can hang my hat on that being due to Stefanski.

I mean if we're going the coordinator route, I guess he's as good as any to give a shot, but after the last 20 years I find it hard not to be skeptical of almost anything. Color me shell shocked.

It would be a wise move to make him apart of this organization in some way. He's probably too wise after his many years here to do that.
