I agree with that. I think he’s going to probably get more than he deserves, but we’ll see

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Not sure if Mary Bae is ad-libbing (not her strong suit) or if she has inside info, something she has had a streak of lately....

Quote:
Hey, Mary Kay: Do you think Kevin Stefanski will go after his former players like Everson Griffen and Anthony Harris? Also do you see us going after a tackle in free agency like Jack Conklin or Bryan Bulaga? — Jeff Lerner, Avon, Ohio

Hey, Jeff: I do think the Browns will have players such as Griffen, a defensive end, and Harris, a free safety, on their radar. The Browns will probably be looking to replace defensive end Olivier Vernon, who’s due to make $15.25 million next season. They won’t pay him that much, so he’ll either be gone or asked to take a paycut. If he’s gone, Griffen would be one option. An 11th-year pro, he had eight sacks in 2019 and has notched 74.5 in his 147 games.

He opted out of his contract last week and is a free agent. Stefanski was there his entire career, so knows him well. The Browns are definitely going to need more pass-rushers. Same thing with Harris if he actually hits the market. He finished with six interceptions last season and the Browns are in need of safeties. As for Conklin and Bulaga, the Browns will look into every left tackle available, and these are two of the best of the bunch. I know that Conklin intrigued the previous regime, and likely this one too, but all of the available good tackles are on the radar.

Just one thing about her comments. Conklin is a RT not a LT.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

They really have Jameis ahead of Rivers and Bridgewater in their rankings?

There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

I would. Over Rivers from the standpoint he's younger. If I'm hoping to win a super bowl in the next 2 years, I'll take Rivers. If I want to sign a QB longterm, it's Winston everytime. He's better than a lot of options.

I do not want Winston in Pittsburgh.

I would choose Mariota ahead of Bridgewater. No thanks on Teddy.

It's a new regime,we've seen it over and over and over, jettison existing players, bring in new guys more "familiar with the new schemes".
It reminds me of the movie Groundhog Day,only not quite as funny.
So it's bye-bye Joe,and O,and lord knows who else.

I can see it ... his contract didn’t match his production

Chris Smith, the Browns defensive lineman who was waived in December, months after his girlfriend was struck and killed by a car, is ready to return to football.

Smith is looking to resume his career and hoping to sign with a team, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

The 28-year-old Smith played nine games for the Browns last season after playing all 16 games each of the two previous seasons. He previously played three seasons for the Jaguars.

Smith’s late girlfriend was the mother of his baby daughter, and Smith has spoken of prioritizing caring for her. He’s a player fans of many teams will be rooting for.

Winston just had Lasik surgery. He's always squinting his eyes to see things at a distance. I'll be interested if this has an effect on his interceptions. If he gets that corrected he will be a very dangerous QB.

True. We need a right tackle as well. We probably won't get both this cycle.

No is the answer. LT's are over rated in the new NFL unless your QB is left handed.

Get with the times Bro. It's not like it was when we were kids. The QB position has morphed. The LT is maybe the least important on the line.

You don't have statue QB's who can't move. The RT is where I would focus.

Huh? Unless I am sadly out of touch with current thought, a left-handed QB requires blindside protection from the RT...

Not really. QB's run towards their throwing hand. I don't envision a qb standing in the pocket for more than 2.5 seconds. If it isn't open, roll right...assuming a right handed player.

It's just a different vision of where the games going. And note I said least important. I didn't say it wasn't important. All five positions are important.

From the Pro Football Network (PFN): "Once this draft is complete, we will move on to bigger and better things with the 2021 NFL Draft. With that, I fast forward to the next crop of 2021 NFL Draft hopefuls with the top offensive tackle prospects. While this group features a few blue-chip players at the top, there is much uncertainty surrounding the rest for various reasons."

I hope this front office does get both tackles this year...

Just asking, I haven't checked. My recollection is that Mayfield tends to escape the pocket to his left. If I'm wrong then somebody please clarify... with facts would be preferable, please.

J/c:

Personally I remember Baker's scrambling being more directly backwards into the guys the OTs were trying to push past him. Some to each side as well, but it was pretty much every which way. Hopefully we'll have more consistent pockets for him to step up into this year and/or more designed rollouts.

Our O last season looked like they never practiced anything. From Baker himself, blocking, route running, WR's etc. Not to mention our game plans never looked too good. Hopefully, with a new coaching staff things will change.

The mind boggling thing was that we never saw THAT much improvement. Sure, we’d have a good week or half here and there, but from week 1 thru week 17 we basically made the same mistakes lol

guard, I don't have a link, but Baker drew criticism for leaving the pocket too soon and not keeping his eyes downfield. He almost always bailed to the right.

I will say that he did a better job of not always bailing right as the season wore on. So, we saw some progress in that regard.

Yet the LT position is by far the highest paid position on the OL. There seem to be 32 NFL GM's who disagree with you. The hit you don't see coming is the one that can devastate you. There are reasons that LT's make the big bucks.

Precisely.

Berry was quoted that his plan is to be aggressive in all facets of player acquisition.

Given the 10th pick I wonder what the plan is as far as OL improvement.

Robinson is gone and so is Kush. Hubbard most likely gone as well though it has not been officially announced.

I can foresee using the 10th pick as an investment at tackle. But I doubt that the draft will be the only avenue used.

My guess is free agency and or trade. IMO they will add at least 3 maybe four OL.

I don't have a clue who they are looking at right now but it is a priority.

The numbers are coming closer together. The left side is much less "blind" when in the shotgun. The changed footwork Van Pelt has talked about might also make Baker's eyes naturally drift left at the snap it would seem to me. A team's best rusher used to generally line up on the "blindside." Now they move around a lot to exploit match ups.

Hits can devastate a QB whether he sees them or not.

You can't allow your OTs to consistently get whooped on either side. Both are important.

You definitely don't want your entire OL getting whooped which we seemed to see all too frequently.

Don't get me wrong, Bitonio and Tretter are good players, but they had some plays where they got blown up last year.

The numbers are still miles apart and will remain so. One fact can not be denied by anyone wishing to put forth a legitimate debate on the topic. The OT position requires a special skill set much of which is not a requirement of interior OL players. It takes a much better athlete to play the OT position. It makes them far more rare and hard to find.

It's why they are drafted higher and make so much more money. That won't be changing any time soon.

Many draft experts are projecting that four and some as many as five OT's will be drafted in the top 15 this year. If you ever see a draft where that many interior OL players are projected to be drafted that high in a single draft, at that time we may actually have something to discuss.

A lot of teams with young QB's at the top of the draft... they need to protect their asset.

I agree with you. But all this was based on a comment that someone felt the interior of the OL was more important than the LT position.

The draft position of the LT along with the pay difference is most certainly strong evidence that certainly isn't so.

The top two highest paid tackles are right tackles. Two of the top five highest paid offensive linemen are guards.

I only see one G in the top 5

1. Raiders offensive lineman Trent Brown: $16.5 million
2. Titans offensive lineman Taylor Lewan: $16 million
3. Giants offensive lineman Nate Solder: $15.5 million
4. Falcons offensive lineman Jake Matthews: $14.5 million
5. Cowboys offensive lineman Zack Martin: $14 million
6. 49ers offensive lineman Joe Staley: $14 million
7. Buccaneers offensive lineman Donovan Smith: $13.75 million
8. Jaguars offensive lineman Andrew Norwell: $13.3 million
9. Chargers offensive lineman Russell Okung: $13.25 million
10. Redskins offensive lineman Trent Williams: $13.2 million

https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/nf...ary/1948980001/

And only two in the top 10.

I was going off of guaranteed money. I also miscounted. Norwell and Martin are in the top six.

The point still stands. All good linemen are paid highly now, not just left tackles.
