I also think he's gone, and I'm bummed.
I think that his attitude issues COULD magically disappear with a stronger coaching staff and a fair (if short) contract.
I will just say that I'm willing to ignore quite a bit that happened last year due to the turmoil caused by the coaching staff.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

I really hope we manage to get everything ironed out with Randall. I've watched too many past Browns defenses get absolutely demolished mostly due to a gaping hole at FS. It's hard to find good ones.
I bet you could make the argument that he's more important to hang on to than Joe. I would say Damarious Randall being back is about as close to 0% you can get.

You're probably correct, but as to whether or not we want him back, without knowing the actual details of the issue it's impossible to gauge.
His play on the field as shown to be more than capable... and, if it were all attitude issues, well.. he apparently wouldn't be the only person from last year's roster to suddenly have issues which suggest that they weren't actually the problem.
Browns is the Browns

Exactly. Hmmmm... there's a whole lotta guys all over the league not re-signed, there were very few reports of contract extensions during the season, and there is voting on a new CBA about to happen. Gee, I wonder if all of that could be related, folks?

I don't trust the Browns to find a different, competent FS in a timely manner.
Why do you prefer not to bring back Randall? Was it attitude or play on the field? Without knowing your answer, I'll just throw out there that several of our key players experienced issues with one or both of those this past year, and that has been attributed to the outgoing coaching staff. Both. He can play well. He's kind of like Jamie Collins and just didn't play well too often. Too many impressionable young guys in the secondary to want him to be the leader in the room.

He had attitude issues in Green Bay as well that resulted in McCarthy benching him during a game and finally sending him from the bench and to the locker room. There's a reason GB gave him away for DeShone Kizer. Randall seems to have a pattern of wearing out his welcome.

J/C You could fix the Safety problems with two experienced players that have some connection to Stephanski and possibly Woods but not sure of that.
Anthony Harris, FS, Vikes
Jayron Kearse, SS with the size to possibly be used in a hybrid role. Young player, reserve on a deep Vikings secondary.
Sign Jason Peters on a two-year deal. Expands draft options at pick 10 although taking a future LT remains viable.
Replace Schobert with a young Ilb who played well when the starter in Chicago went down. Nick Kwiatkoski.

A couple FA safety options I'm really looking forward to, are Adrian Phillips and Karl Joseph...Both should be relatively cheap.
Phillips can play both safety spots, and is also a special teams demon thus his Pro Bowl invite two years ago...Coming off injury (well actually both of them are) He shouldn't cost a ton...But can be a viable swing safety so to speak.
I'm sure a lot more are aware of SS Joseph...Whom was actually the Raiders best safety last year before being injured. They signed Joyner to a big deal and drafted Abram in the 1st round year...So I can see him looking for a fresh start, injuries however are his downfall.
Even with these two, Ideally you would want to draft a safety or two whom can compete or take the job from them...Realistically you could have Ashtyn Davis at FS, Joseph at SS...Phillips backing them both up, until SS Bennett is ready/healed to play...(if he still is on the roster then...but who knows) I wouldn't mind SS Antoine Brooks later in the draft as well

Randall is a talented safety.
However, IMO he is me, me, me, me guy. Take care of me. It's not my fault.
Last year on several occasions he flat gave up. Refused to pursue and avoided contact.
Let him go. I have no use for his type.
Plenty of options out there to address the position.

Are the Browns parting ways w/both Murray and Burnett at SS? Murray is a UFA. Burnett is over 30 and tore his Achilles. I wouldn't mind keeping Burnett for his leadership as his contract isn't bad, but he's in the final year of it as well. Only ~1.3M in dead cap if we cut him per Spotrac, ~4.7M if the Achilles is good and we keep him.

Is Joseph the guy from the Raiders? Yes sir, a lot of people were wanting him here as a Brown when he came out West Virginia. Kind of reminds me of TJ Ward, though thicker...Prototype box safety, though his coverage has improved...I watched a couple Raiders games, and they really talking about how well he was playing...His biggest question is health, so insurance behind him is a must.

I don't remember a time when so many QB's "whose name you know" have been FA's at the same time.. it probably happened, I just don't remember it.

Is Joseph the guy from the Raiders? Yes. Going into his 5 year in the pros out of West Virginia. Former 16th overall pick who has had injury issues. Most recently went on IR for a foot injury last season. Might be a buy low opportunity, but the medical would have to check out.

Are the Browns parting ways w/both Murray and Burnett at SS? Heard a lot of blurbs of releasing Burnett with his age and injury...However he survived those first cuts, so I'm not sure what the plan is of him...But he is a smart experienced veteran...I know our cupboard is bare at both S spots...However I am sure they will attempt to address it come FA/Draft. Murray I wouldn't mind as a mere depth piece...I know he seemed to earn I believe better coverage grades, however he often looked erratic to me...and I remember noting a few times he was avoiding contact...and it was prior to his injury.

I’d assume Murray to be gone as well. He had history with Dorsey, so that’s why he came here. And as an UFA, he’ll end up elsewhere

A lot of work ahead to clean up Dorsey's mess. I'm confident we will still be a playoff contender this season.
I'll be curious to see what moves we make. Particularly on defense.

I can’t help but keep thinking: What if we would have kept Ogbah, Peppers, Zeitler, Fells, etc instead of rearranging everything, giving up a 1st round pick, changing the dynamic of the team

Since Zeitler was a great signing for us a couple years ago, I can see targeting a guy like Thuney.

If we kept them we would be a better team right now. Those moves created holes we now have to fill besides the areas we need to strengthen. Dorsey made some good moves and he made some mistakes. No one is perfect. JMO

Hated Peppers - I know we played him out of position but he was a hitter and poor tackler and in open space always took bad angles to the ball carrier. No idea how he performed in NY Loved Zeitler - what can you say. One of the best. Liked Fells - thought he was above average. I don't like the 'what if' game because it's easy to imagine things better than they would have been. Vernon was injured, OBJ was injured, Njoku was out basically all year .... not a fair comparison.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

changing the dynamic of the team There wasn't anything dynamic about the team then.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Agreed. This team needs a lot of positions filled. Too many jumped the gun on how good this team was starting last season. I wasn't one of them. I had many people come up to me saying how good my Browns were going to be and I disagreed. As it stands right now if we finish 8-8 this coming season we will be lucky. We need to hit on our draft picks and sign some good players in FA to make a playoff run. I really believe we need 2 good drafts and 2 good FA periods to be solid contenders. JMO Wash, rinse, rebuild, repeat... No negativity intended towards you home

You really need to figure out whether you blame the players on the field or the person who coached them. It seems there's a lot of confusion among some people about that.

Or the dynamic of having a rookie QB enter a national TV game...cold with no snaps in practice with the 111's...win the game...survive the firing of an incompetent HC in mid-season...break the rookie TD pass record in 13.5 games...have a rookie RB almost win the rushing title...have 7+ guys catch balls in every game after the rookie became the starter and don't forget the obscene success in the red zone. Other than that and winning 6 of their last 8...they had no dynamic.

Nah...you are the one who needs to figure out that it is both sides...not either/or. I think you are arguing with yourself again.

Since Memph and Pitt took over the other thread I figured I’s start the next one a little early ...
FWIW ...
TRENT WILLIAMS T, WASHINGTON REDSKINS
NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Redskins want "fair compensation" for LT Trent Williams.
Rapoport added that interest in Williams has picked up. Additionally, he wants a new long-term deal upon being traded to a new team. Obviously Washington isn't about to just give their stud LT away, but it'll be interesting to see how much value they're able to get considering the circumstances. It'd be surprising if Williams doesn't have a new home before too much longer.
