Not enough hockey on ESPN, dude, no one would watch it up here.
Actually it's protection-ism, Canadian content rules or some such idiocy.

TSN is actually owned by ESPN or they're in a partnership agreement, the TSN logo is the same as the ESPN logo. We get some ESPN shows on TSN.... Pardon The Interruption and The Reporters, I like both of those a lot.

I live in Canada and I surely know who Peter Gammons is. There isn't much content that I got in the States that I don't get here in Canada. I watch baseball alot so maybe that's why.

CLEVELAND -- LeBron James announced to millions during his recent appearance on "Saturday Night Live" his intention to root against his hometown Indians this week in the American League Division Series.

Man, he wasn't kidding.

In a move that provides quite the dilemma for Cleveland fans, James not only sported enemy gear to Thursday's Game 1 against the Yankees at Jacobs Field, but he even playfully taunted fans by doffing his Yankees cap and raising it in front of a camera during an interview with TBS.

James may be the city's biggest star who revived Cleveland basketball and brought the Cavaliers to the NBA Finals last season. But did he cross the line? Are some things best kept hidden?

"It's like [Indians ace] C.C. [Sabathia] walking out there with a Pistons hat," said Kevin Lowrie, 48, of Mentor. "Yeah, it's who he roots for, but does he have to brag about it like that? It's wrong."

"I think he should be traded for that," said 30-year-old Joe Dickinson, with a laugh. "Cheer in secret."

Even New York fans thought it was odd for the longtime Yankees fan to flaunt his team's colors in the town that idolizes him.

"I can't understand it," said Rob Fath, 19, of Yonkers, N.Y. "It's really pretty low of LeBron, to be honest. Why would he do that to his city?"

At least it offered the Yanks' faithful some needed humor -- and solace.

"That offers a lot of comfort," said Dave Molyneaux, a 42-year-old Yankees fan from Gainesville, Fla. "That's pretty stellar of him to wear that hat."

Yet in the end, the Indians and the sellout crowd of got the last laugh in a 12-3 victory. James eventually succumbed to the demands of nearby fans shouting for him to take off his hat. And as the Indians pulled away in the sixth inning, James summoned his entourage to the exits.

There is, of course, another side to this story. Some fans simply don't care.

"Who cares? I love LeBron. How can you not?" said 27-year-old Jason Maxey. "He can wear a Pittsburgh Steelers jersey for all I care. It has nothing to do with basketball."

"He can do whatever he wants. When he was young, the Tribe was bad, so what are you going to do?" said Derek Yurtz, 33, of Medina. "Whatever makes him happy. If rooting for the Yankees helps him shoot threes, he could vote for Satan."

Most fans, however, fell along the lines of Tribe Hall of Fame pitcher Bob Feller. Rooting for the Yankees? Fine. A Cleveland representative wearing Yankees gear? Not fine.

"I'm going to a Cavaliers game and sit right by their bench, wearing a Detroit Pistons cap. Let's see how LeBron likes that," Feller told the Cleveland Plain-Dealer.

"Really," said Dickinson, "it's ridiculous."

Correct it's not a classy move especially when the Indians went out of there way last year to show support for him and the Cavaliers during their playoff/NBA title run, and they showed support not in just a Rah Rah way, they spent money on a banner rooting for them, so for LeBron to show up wearing a Yankees hat to a game in Cleveland which he knows already how Clevelanders take there sports is disrespectful and is a slap in the face.

Now after saying that once the NBA season starts and the Cavaliers get back to their winning ways this will be forgotten, until James leaves Cleveland for a bigger market, which he will do, since he has already stated he wants to be the richest african american ever, which is his right, but since thats his goal he won't accomplish it in a middle market city such as Cleveland.

I bet when he does leave to a major market, he'll slam Cleveland fans for being petty and will use this as part of his excuse as to why he's leaving.

I don't care who he roots for but it still surprises me that a kid that grows up in Akron doesn't back the hometown teams because I am such a die hard for all Cleveland teams. I grew up in Akron as well and I just don't get it. I think it's weird but LeBron liked the popular teams when he grew up. Americas's team, the Bulls, the Yankees. In my opinion, he followed the big boys and not the local teams like most of us do. If he grew up in NY, I could completely understand but growing up in Akron.......strange. I could never root for others. I am a Cleveland Fan!

I have worked in Akron since 2001. The majority of people who work here are from the Akron/Canton area. We talk sports all the time and have co-workers that are:

Steeler Fans
49'er fans
Dolphin Fans
Cowboy Fans
Yankee Fans
Red Sox Fans
White Sox Fans
Bulls Fans
Laker Fans
Piston Fans

All of those people are born and raised in the Akron/Canton area. A lot of people that I know around here have no allegence to Cleveland what so ever. If Lebron likes the Yankees then that's fine. I don't care, in fact I'm glad he is supporting his team and not waivering to public opinion. We don't need him as a fan of the Indians to beat the Yankees.

I still don't know how this is news. Don't people have anything better to worry about... like, I dunno, the economy or the fact that we have a blubbering idiot in the White House?

People in NJ pay my salary... and I have an Indians cap on my desk (and Browns, Cavs and Buckeyes stuff hanging on my walls). Do they complain or tell me I should be ashamed of myself? Of course not. Why? Because in the long run IT'S NOT IMPORTANT.

LeBron can be a Yankees fan... good for him for sticking with his team... and as for "taunting", I think they're taking it too far. He smiled and lifted up his hat. How is that taunting? He said on air that he respected the Indians as individual players, but as a TEAM he was cheering for the opponent. He also said that if the Indians were playing anyone else he'd be on their side.

People only hear what they want and then turn it into completely ridiculous banter. I for one don't want to be associated with these so called "fans" who are boycotting the Cavs. Get a life. I know Cleveland has not a lot going on these days, but really, read CNN and get involved with real issues.

Don't worry about being berated, I've learned something about this board since I joined and am pretty much a new guy just like you, but these people did the same thing to me, I've been called a troll, non Browns fan and other crap, but as it was explained to me in short version, this place is like one big family and you have to be accepted before anyone takes what you say seriously. Until then you will be labeled and berated until they accept you, sounds stupid if you ask me, It's like alot of the people act like well your new so you don't matter because I've been posting here since 2000 whatever. It's like people think their better then us becuase they been on the board longer. Just keep speaking your mind, and don't take anything to heart.

AMAZING. You people complain about Edwards being a Michigan fan, but LeBron bandwagons for one of the biggest pieces of trash organizations in baseball and it's "no big deal".

He's a Cowboy's fan too.

Yeah, victimized newbie....that's the ticket.

It has nothing to do with the fact that you come here and voice controversial provocative opinions and people respond in kind.

True enough.

Any way you cut it, it is bad form.

He can root for anybody he likes, I agree. But it is bad form to do so in his teams city.

Just not a class thing to do.

Actually I would think less of him if he came in wearing Tribe gear. We have known since his days in high school that he was a Yankees fan. He has never hidden that fact. Now all of a sudden for him to wear Tribe gear to please the fans when we all know that he is really a Yanks fan. That would be silly. He would be a hypocrite.

He is who he is. I have more respect for him now. I dont like the fact that he is a Yanks fan but it is his decision.

Signing Steinbach - $49.5 million
Signing Lewis - $5 million
Drafting Joe Thomas and Brady Quinn - millions more
Restoring the Browns to champions - priceless.

Well I guess you missed the posts I was involved in when people jumped on me and I wasn't saying anything stupid I was making legit points but since I was new I was labeled, I actually went back and forth with another poster in Private Message who just happened to explain to me about how this board evolved and how the posters tend to treat new members. Now to you it might not matter on how long someone has been around here, but it was thrown in my face by a few posters. In the long run I laughed it off, but some posters can be very assinine to new people like myself. Not saying you, but these type of people do exist on this board. Is it the majority or minority, I don't know yet, only time will answer that question for me.

Sort of.. it's like we do view each other as friends and family because many of us have been posting for quite a while dating back to the old board and it's like we know each others habits and tendencies and it's like we also make fun of each other just as much as we do new comers. But it's not like we think we're any better than anybody else but if you say something stupid, expect to get called on it. It's like you might not even know why it's stupid, it might just hit on an inside joke around here but those things are going to happen. So, it's like, you should just keep posting and over time, you will come to understand the inside jokes and then, it's like you can get in on the jokes too...

By wearing a hat? What would be objectionable would be if he came in wearing a jersey, hat, sweats, etc etc and carrying a stuffed Slider on a noose. He did it in a classy way, just something small but enough to show his spirit.

I do know there have been new posters who have complained about it, but from what I've seen they have brought things on themselves. The Gary dude is a prime example. He spams the board with nonsense threads and most of them seem to get deleted and still he keeps posting them, he asserts that one of the board members trying to win a contest is too ugly to be voted for, tells a long time post to move to Afghanistan, etc.

He's going to take crap. It's that simple.

Not much of an issue to me.

It's the crappy media whom I'm sure looks at it as another chance to poke us with a pointy stick thinking it's funny to see Clevelands "king" as a Yankee shill. I also felt they were more poking fun of the drum guy (sry, forgot his name) more so than creating an interesting side story. I'd have laid a drumstick to that morons head and deposited him over the left field wall!

It's the Tribes time in the sun and I'd just as soon see them pan LBJ and leave it at that. His season starts soon enough!

I've been posting here 3 1/2 years (but most people didn't notice until last winter haha).
The vets here don't slam new posters just because they're new. It's all about how they present themselves over time.
If a new poster comes on and starts acting obnoxious, doesn't follow the rules and is generally an ass, he or she is gonna get slammed for it.

I get what your saying and thats about what was said to me, because I was honestly confused on some of the reactions I recieved, but like I mentioned I had a long time user explain things to me, Now as for these posts made by this poster I have no idea about what he has said in the past, I've just basically started posting in this area of the board recently my initial time here was spent in Pure Football and Gameday, but like I mentioned to the fella I was in Private Message with, I have found myself getting addicted to this place because there is good conversations going on, and I also find humor in the people who can't handle being questioned about their opinions, but this place has grown on me and each day I feel more comfortable posting here.

Funny thing is, if you do a little research on names, you will find it's the same people who berate one way or the other, and the same other group who doesn't care one way or another.

It's not one collective group of everyone on this board that repeatedly transgresses as you hint towards.

[quote I live in Canada and I surely know who Peter Gammons is. There isn't much content that I got in the States that I don't get here in Canada. I watch baseball alot so maybe that's why.

That's probably it.
I rarely watch baseball these days except for the playoffs/WS. I've probably seen Gammons on some show or another, but he didn't really register.

I see I'm still doing a bang-up job with the quote thingys.

If a new poster comes on and starts acting obnoxious, doesn't follow the rules and is generally an ass, he or she is gonna get slammed for it.

Ok, thats fine but I did none of these and yet still was slammed, can you answer that one for me? I can only speak for myself not for anyone else, new or old, but the people who are responding to me now are not the people who acted like basic jerks to me, matter of fact you guys seem more reasonable then the people I am refering too. I just know what I went thru and seen, as for others I can't speak for them. Thanks for the responses though, helps me learn more about the posters of this board, and each day I learn more.
