Browns Waive Four Players To Get Roster To 80

https://247sports.com/nfl/cleveland-brow...o-80-149729770/

CLEVELAND -- The Cleveland Browns have now reduced their roster to 80 players.

The team announced that they have made the following roster moves. They waived wide receiver Tony Brown, linebacker Jermaine Grace, defensive end George Obinna and defensive tackle Justin Zimmer.

Brown and Obinna were rookie undrafted free agents, while Grace and Zimmer were veterans. Zimmer was waived with a non-football injury.

Grace (6-1, 223) was in his fourth season from Miami (Fla.). He finished the season on the Browns practice squad. He has been with the Falcons, Seahawks, Colts, and Browns.

Zimmer (6-3, 300) was in his third season from Ferris State. Zimmer was originally signed by the Bills as an UDFA. He's been on the Saints and Falcons practice squad. He was elevated to the Falcons active roster for one game in 201. He played two games with the Browns last season and had five tackles.

Obinna (6-2, 245) was in his first year from Sacramento State. He played in 46 career games, posting 136 tackles, 33.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries. Named FCS second team All-America by the AFCA and third team from STATS and Associated Press as a redshirt senior in 2019. Was a first team All-Big Sky selection.

Brown (6-1, 192) was in his first year from Colorado. He played in 47 career games, including his first two seasons at Texas Tech and finished with 114 receptions for 1,409 yards and seven touchdowns in his college career. He posted 87 receptions for 1,031 yards and seven touchdowns (six receiving, one rushing) at Colorado. In his last season at Colorado, Brown had a team high 56 receptions for 707 yards and five touchdowns.

Grace has hung around a bit IIRC. Just recognize his name

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Jeudy is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Tillman is flanked out wide to the right. Judkins and Ford are split in the backfield as Flacco takes the snap ... Here we go."

He is one of those guys good enough to stay close, but never really gets there.

He keeps following the dream. Maybe he finds that last piece and finds the right team.

I tried to talk about the turnaround time for most young, healthy people who have caught the virus. I mentioned how quickly my own two children recovered. Someone turned that into me not caring about all the people who have died from Covid. That was not my intent. I was just pointing out that almost all young, healthy people recover rather quickly. I do not think the NFL is going to shut down the start of the season.

It's a paid article but Jake sums up the offensive rankings.

QB group is ranked #19, which pretty much means Baker is ranked #19.

You are what you are until you prove that you're not.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

That’s about what I’d imagine ... now, if the QB can crack the top 10 now we’re talking

I think the WRs should have been higher. I think we have the best duo in the league.

We also have no depth and both OBJ and Landry are coming off pretty serious injuries.

I thought WR would be higher as well. I also thought edge rusher would be lower, given this is the same group we had last year.

I thought 19 was generous for QB, given the previous year.

I agree w/you on the WRs, obviously. I also agree about the Edge rushers. I like our two guys, but 3rd seems high. I really can't say I have a lot of knowledge about each team's Edge rushers, though. I would have to take the time to look at the names of the guys on each team.

Quarterback? Unlike Memphis, I think they may have included Keenum. He has to be considered one of the top backups in the league.

That's a good point. I didn't think of that.

Not that they would give negative reviews maybe just not say a thing:

But I read about the Stefanski visit to Baker's place in March. And recent comments from Berry about Baker.

Both have been complimentary. His commitment, work ethic, as teammate, conditioning etc.

Both Stefanski and Berry seem to be impressed with Baker.

Given all the limitations so far this year and all that has to happen for a new staff to implement new systems.

It is vital to have the quarterback and management working together.

It will be a massive test for this staff to prepare this team for opening day.

New staff alone under these conditions places them behind veteran staffs.

Fingers crossed. I wish them all well.

The QB situation in the league is really weird right now. There are several guys who should probably be starters but are backups right now. Andy Dalton, Marcus Mariota, Jameis Winston, Nick Foles, and Jacoby Brissett are all clearly better than Keenum. Then you have rookies like Justin Herbert, Jordan Love, and Jalen Hurts who have high upside but are currently backups. And then who knows what to make of Taysom Hill.

I would say that Case Keenum is among the best of the journeyman type backups (Chase Daniel, Blaine Gabbert, Colt McCoy (who is somehow on the Giants now), Matt Moore, etc.).

Who in the hell is playing linebacker for us?

Myles has to show out, and our secondary has to prove potential. Otherwise, it doesn’t matter how many yards Nick rushes for, how many catches our receivers have.

We literally need to have one linebacker to be good situationally. The safety and corner play will be much more important.

I tend to agree.

I guess we won't know for sure until the regular season starts how Woods is going to deploy LBs

Forgot about Goodson ... at least he’s got some experience (though that’s not saying much if you look at Packers fans thoughts)

Ronald Leary visiting Browns

Charean Williams

Free agent offensive guard Ronald Leary is visiting the Browns this week, Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports.

The Browns hope to sign Leary, who would provide veteran offensive line depth.

Denver declined the option on Leary’s contract, making him an unrestricted free agent.

Leary, 31, spent three seasons in Denver after five in Dallas.

He has played 77 games with 76 starts, but Leary has started all 16 games in a season only once. That came in 2013, his first season to see action.

Leary appeared in 12 games last season, missing games after being diagnosed with a head injury.

Leary would be a great get for depth. 76 starts for a guy to compete at your, theoretical, weakest line position is not a bad spot to be in.

I agree. I read on a twitter breakdown that Leary was better than he is given credit for. I still don’t want him as a starter.

I’d be happy with Leary as well. Obviously he’s not a great player, but experience for a backup is big

On Browns Live, they said it is nothing serious.

Also, Garrett has a minor hamstring issue. Also deemed nothing serious.

If this were the Indians saying this I'd assume both would be out 3-4 months!

Good time for Nick Harris to get some reps.

What does "Out" mean? Out for the day? Out for a week? out for a season?

BEREA, Ohio (92.3 The Fan) - Browns center JC Tretter underwent knee surgery Thursday and defensive end Myles Garrett is sidelined with a hamstring injury.

Head coach Kevin Stefanski made the announcements Friday afternoon before the team took the field for their first practice of training camp.

Stefanski declined to provide a timetable for Tretter or Garrett to return.

They don't seem to be saying. If it was a scope of the knee Tretter should be back sooner than later. If it was more invasive it could be much longer. I guess we'll just have to wait until more details come out.
