1. The Bueaurocrat scientists at the CDC really had us very unprepared for a pandemic considering they are the most well funded organization on the planet with a counter-pandemic mission. They had 50 years to prepare for this pandemic and failed miserably. Their simulation and modeling tools performed horrible, they did not have an emergency inventory of PPE or plans for how to address the shortage. Countries like S. Korea made them look really incompetent in my opinion.
Obama had a playbook ready to go for this type of situation. Trump tossed it out! Science and medical professionals had a plan but Trump didn't want thme to use it. Science is important, but it needs to be open for debate and opposing views and when people write about scientific information, they need to do a better job of understanding and explaining the findings, implications, limitations, and applicability to guiding our response efforts. That's exactly what happened with cloth face masks, too. Majority of western nations thought they wouldn't help, early data showed perhaps they would, so then every nation started recommending them.

Masks are similar to seatbelts. When used correctly with the correct equipment, they will save lives. I know you weren’t an anti-mask individual this summer and I assume you still feel the same.
The problem we have is people visiting a large amount of people, covid fatigue of isolation, and people not wearing a two-layer cloth face mask. Neck gaiters, scarfs, and other things other than a cloth face mask don’t work. There’s plenty of live demonstrations which show this.
People not being in solidarity rests as our sole problem. We need to stop being so selfish.

I have and always wear a 2 layer mask in public places. I may take it off or slide it down if walking back to the car or somewhere and I am not going to get inside 10-15 or so feet from someone.
I have always been somewhat of a germaphob.. I steer clear of sneezing, hacking people. My wife and I go out to eat a few times a week, but only places that are distanced properly. We also go during off hours. We eat dinner at 2:30-3PM when restaurants aren't all that busy. My bottle of hand sanitizer on the table.
Other then the mask, I have socially distanced for the last 30 years when possible. I was fist pumping before fist pumping was cool.
As far as not being selfish, I am afraid that isn't going to change. We live in a me first society.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn. GM Strong

Lots of news here in the UK about 40,000 vaccine testing that is showing a 90% success..... can't wait for the conspiracy theories and Cult of Trump to make something out of this news a week after the election. Covid, the lockdown and the impact is more dominant here in the UK than in the USA. It's the lead (other then the election in the US) on every news segment TV and Radio.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

This guy is/was a respected doctor. Hell they even made a movie about him... Pretty good movie. If there is anyone that should know the severity of Covid, you'd think he'd be the guy and would take steps to stay healthy. Doesn't make sense.

I imagine he took precautions. I'd likely bet a lot of those around him in the administration did not. It's highly contagious, though, and he had a job to do. My guess is he was hoping for the best and doing what he could, but it wasn't enough with how contagious this virus is.

Whether he intended to take precautions or not, I don't see Ben Carson as the guy that would wag his finger at anyone in those rooms that wasn't wearing a mask, etc.

DeWine: Mask mandate will be enforced, other restrictions coming; bars, restaurants, fitness centers may be closedCOLUMBUS — Speaking in a somber tone in a statewide broadcast from his Statehouse office, Gov. Mike DeWine Wednesday told Ohioans he will step up enforcement of his mandatory mask order and some new restrictions will be ordered. It comes in response to record high numbers of new COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations. The Ohio Department of Health figures show there were 5,784 new coronavirus cases reported in the last 24 hours period and 253 new people hospitalized in that same period. DeWine ordered that businesses must post a Face Covering Requirement sign at all entrances. Most businesses have them already but many have told employees not to challenge customers who are not wearing a mask, out of fear of angering them. Also each store will be responsible for employees and customers wearing a mask. The governor said a new Retail Compliance Unit from the Ohio Bureau of Workers Compensation will inspect stores for compliance. In April the state issued an order limiting public gatherings to ten people and DeWine reminded people that the order remains in effect. “Despite this order we have seen rampant spread of the order as a result of banquets, wedding receptions, and social gatherings following funerals. We have seen great tragedy associated with these events,” DeWine said. A new order coming in the next few days will address those gatherings, requiring people to be seated and wearing a mask unless they are actively consuming food. Congregate areas cannot be open. Dancing and games will be prohibited Other categories of businesses are also being targeted by DeWine. “If the current trend continues and cases keep increasing, we will be forced to close bars, restaurants and fitness centers. We will look at this one week from tomorrow. I’m very well aware of the burden this will place on employees. I’m very well aware of the burden this will place on the owners, but these are places candidly where it is impossible to maintain mask wearing which we know is the chief way of slowing this virus,” DeWine said. As some school districts have begun to shift the virtual learning, DeWine said people must do everything in their power to slow the virus down so kids can stay in school. “It is up to each and every one of us. What you do in the community …what we all do in the community impacts whether our kids can stay in schools. Because no matter how good our schools are they cannot overcome widespread COVID in the community that will get into the schools,” DeWine said. The governor also thanked universities for moving students off-campuses after the Thanksgiving break and through the end of the year. If the virus continues to spread, DeWine said, universities may have to remain virtual when they return in January. DeWine quoted former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, who led his battered nation through World War II, when he said “When you’re going through hell, keep going.” he governor asked Ohioans to keep going. “Recommit your individual efforts to stay safe. Because what you do in your private lives effects everyone. Please, please don’t host that birthday party, that baby shower or kids' sleepover or that get-together to watch he football game,” DeWine said. Like several other governors around the state, DeWine urged people to stay home when they can, to work from home when they can and to remember to avoid letting someone into their homes, including extended family members to come into their home for Thanksgiving. He urged people if they are attending a gathering, to make sure everyone is wearing a mask. https://www.whio.com/news/local/dewine-m...DO5MROT4WUUMIY/

If trump and his supporters hadn’t got all bent out of shape on the first close down and had to open schools and bars and have unmasked rallies we wouldn’t be here.

142k cases, over 1400 deaths.
Glad Biden moved quickly to put a team together. We have to address this ASAP, seeing as trump has no interest in doing anything.

Seeing as how Trump and Atlas have given no indication that they will do anything, it would be much better if they turned over the handling of the pandemic to Biden and his team...

Yep. We need action leadership.
Trump is too busy trying to con more money out of his base to pay for legal bills to care about the country as a whole.
Some states have already seen overloads in hospitalizations. Gov DeWine is already talking about shutting a lot of things down, and he’s republican.
Which scares me, because we have a bunch of mini trumps in our state legislature who don’t give a crap about actual lives, just the almighty dollar.
People have got to remember to elect leaders based on how they would potentially handle a crisis when we need leadership and tough decisions, not elect dudes when things are already rolling in the right direction.

Did you notice that talk of Durham having the goods on Hunter Biden and Hillary Clinton has just died? Covid is still here and getting worse...

This is 100% my view when I look at political positions (especially president), but I've never really been able to put it in to words. I think this sums it up pretty good. I lean left, but would vote right if I felt the 'person' was best fit for the job. I just want to be able to look at the president and not be embarrassed. I hope 2024 is better.

I think a lot of people are thinking that also. My wife went out this morning to grab a couple things and then look for a couple Christmas gifts as we are trying to get the in store stuff done now. She said the stores in the Boardman area were like the Saturday before Christmas at 10 in the morning. People walking out with flat carts full of cases of water and toilet paper. But I had to go out to Lowes and a couple auto parts stores last weekend and then Walmart last night and Walmart was about 2/3 masked. Lowes probably wasn't 50% and the auto parts store about 25%. They were all busy-and the restaurants around us are slammed for lunch and dinner. There is no diminished occupancy here
