And what of Wallis? A QB that at one time - pre-Watson trade, you would have been all in for in the first round. . . In fact I am sure you said you'd have traded up from the Browns original 1st round pick to get... ? Do you still feel as confident about him? Why did he slip?

The Titans took Willis.

Before Watson I was desperate for a QB with upside because it was clear to me that Baker wasn't an option going forward. Willis was clearly the QB with the most upside. It is evident there were major flaws that the league saw that I was blind to.

As far as Punt God. Who knows.

Titans took Willis with the 86th pick in the draft. I have no idea if they got the steal of the draft or not - but you were advocating moving up from the Brown's original 1st round draft position to get him. Not wanting to be cantankerous but that seems to be a miss read of Willis's value. Call me sensitive or particular or pedantic - but it bothers me slightly when posters are so anti-Baker they'd advocate expending draft capital to move up for a QB that ended up being taken 2 rounds later and that opinion never gets reviewed or discussed.

As I alluded to - you aren't wrong. Willis most definitely could be a starting QB for an NFL team, and in TEN he has a really solid opportunity to develop for a year under Ryan T. More so than most teams he could have been drafted by. I don't think you or anyone else didn't indicate he Willis had a lot of growing to do. The only issue I was sensitive to was him being viable to replace BM this year. Personally of the 3 "top" QB I think Ridder might hold the best shot at being a legit NFL QB. But that is mostly because I am not a fan of running QB. I don't think Lamar will be a Raven for more than a couple of more seasons, and despite some progress in 2020, he's more RB than QB. imo

I want Winfrey. DT is a huge area of concern for me.

Wouldn’t mind Cade York too as stated above

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Cade York and Matt Araiza! At least salvage something from this draft. Is Daniel Faalele, the massive OT, worth taking a chance on?

An example of how we are all wrong at some point - I would have been happy taking Winfrey at #44. I'd still be happy with him now if we can get him.

I would use a 4th on Cade York. We need to fix the Kicker position and I think that would do it.

I don't love Araiza as much as some of you guys. His booming punts are impressive. But I don't see a lot of punts dropping inside the 10. I am also concerned about technique. He looks like a 4 step punter. I worry that in the NFL he is going to get a lot of punts blocked. I would prefer Jordan Stout out of Penn St later in the draft.

Cade York is a kicker. They should be able to manufacture a Kicker without wasting a draft pick. emm.

The Browns need a WR that can play in the slot!

And the Browns need to consider who is going to play Tight End???

And the Browns need a Wr that can play in the slot! <------ I think a good NFL team should have about 7 of those at all times. (or 17)

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

j/c,

TE JAMES MITCHELL, VIRGINIA TECH (PFF BIG BOARD RANK: 109)

Mitchell has been forgotten in the tight end class after tearing his ACL in Week 2 of 2021. He possesses some of the best natural receiving talent in the class and is a more-than-willing blocker on tape.

My ideal draft:

Round 4 I would love to see us take Perrion Winfrey, Cade Otten, and Cade York

In round 6/7 I would like, in no particular order: Jordan Stout, Kevin Austin, and an OT
OT I like, don't know if they will fall this far are:
Zack Toms, Braxton Jones, Ryan Van Demark

Winfrey is great value here...my favorite pick for us here. I wasn't so high on him, but thought for sure he would be gone early portion of round 3...I know his run performance and times getting completely washed out would cause him to dip some...I do love us adding to the Dline, as I always wanted us to obtain a dline like the Eagles of a few years ago (where they would rotate everyone in and out, and not lose a step do to their deep depth)

I like OT/OG Kellen Diesch a lot, moves very well...would not mind him as our swing...he kind of gives me vibes of Bitinio coming out (just not as stout) I wouldn't mind Kinnard either, but I wonder about his ability to stay at tackle a little more versus Diesch.

Actually Jalen Wydemyer Texas A&M is still available too.
He was the #2 ranked TE behind only McBride coming out of the season.
Big TE 6'5 260# But was painfully slow in the 40

If we don't take a TE this round I might take a chance on him late

Our first draft day trade today:

The Browns trade: Pick 118

The Vikings trade: Pick 156, a 2023 4th round pick

I wouldn't mind him late, if we avoid TE this round. I know his stock has unfortunately dropped perhaps more than anyone's with the porous testing you had mentioned.

You know one way that you (meaning me) don't really have a clue about the draft? When you are happier with Day 3 than you were with Day 1 and 2.

He is by far the best Kicker in the draft.
I definite starter from round 4
The difference between any other player and the next best at that position is minuscule

Tend to agree, but I don't think we have a fifth unless something happened in a trade.

EDIT: My bad, don't know what I was looking at.

Update on my ideal draft going forward:

Round 5 - a developmental OT

Round 6/7
Jordan Stout, Kevin Austin, Jalen Wydermyer

We pi ked up a 5th in the trade with Minnesota. However, that is reserved for the punter.

And then you end up diking around and lose the guy. He's the best kicker in the draft and it is a big need.

That checks all the boxes I need checked.

CBS Sports review of the picked says:

"Probably the premier K in this class, but not a giant need for the Browns"

NOT a giant need? What team have they been watching????

rofl rofl rofl

It's a classic national-pundit-evaluation of a Browns team.

There is no such thing on earth!
as too early to select a player, ...if you like him!!!

Can Deshaun Watson play better for the Browns, than Baker Mayfield would have? ... Now the Games count.

I would have taken Kolar or Tyreke Smith. I think they would have had a bigger overall impactt

To be fair Buccs took a kicker. Could’ve been York had we not taken him (or maybe they wanted the other guy)

That is strange that two punters are off the board before Araiza.

Hoping for Oline (Kiesch or perhaps Lindstorm inside...not sure if Kinnard is still available) Perhaps Beavers if he's still still out there...another LB I like is McFadden out of Indiana...Not sure who's still out there for TE, I lost a lot of hope once Kolar was snagged by guess who...the Ravens.

They say it is all about hang time. Araiza booms them, but does not hang them.

I would think if you can boom them, you can learn to hang them.

I liked Jordan Stout because of his ability to drpo the ball inside the 10
I don't see Araiza do that - Araiza is flashy with those boomers.

They could do worse than Thayer Munford OL, OT/OG Ohio State if they were on the clock right now, in fact I don't think any punter would be a better selection than a solid offensive lineman.

Good. Gaining picks for next year. Next year is the year that can hurt us the most by not having a 1st. This pick and the 4th earlier give us some flexibility.

Ford is a upside pick.

It also makes one wonder if something is brewing? It could also signal the move of Felton to the WR room.

I still think the best move long term is to trade Hunt.

Trading Hunt is the only way I could see us taking another RB ... not that I am advocating that we do so.

This is Hunt's last year (unless he re-signs) and D'Ernest is only tendered. I think there were bigger needs, but drafting a RB makes sense to me.

Kevin Harris Rb South Carolina just went to the Patriots near 25 short of pick 200 overall, and
He could possibly be the best player in the entire draft and have, I mean, what is not to like about Kevin Harris except that he's on a team other than the Browns. I really think that guy is special and he is going to prove to be special.
Kevin Harris is, man, just Solid.

I wouldn't put a grade on our draft just yet but IMO we had an above average draft and I'm not even including Deshaun at this time.

j/c:

Probably no one else cares, but I was glad to see Desmond Ridder get drafted. He has accuracy issues, but he is such a high-character individual and a great leader who quietly uplifts others and doesn't seek attention. Him applauding his teammates being drafted him was so sincere. Great kid who will be a winner in whatever walk of life he ends up in.

They also said K wasn't a need - so clearly CBS is a bit clueless.

Ridder to the Falcons. I live in Atl. so I will follow him.

I wanted to draft Ridder in the second round before we got DW.

Like him a lot. I would have drafted him over Pickett. He has a chance to become a solid qb in the NFL.

He does a lot of things well. Great athlete. Exceptional leader. Needs work on ball placement but what he needs work on are things that can be corrected.

He could be the steal in this draft. Always hard to figure quarterbacks but he could be damn good.
