The Browns have the advantage at almost every position and are playing at home. They should win this game easily.

KS and JB were NOT the problem in Carolina game- TWO defensive blown coverages gave the Panthers a REAL opportunity to win. IF, again IF, JB hits one additional pass we could of/ should of won by 21 pts. I think we win by a least ten.....GO Browns!!!

If the Browns don't get lucky with two blown calls on the last Browns drive (roughing the passer and the fake spike that should have been intentional grounding) - If Baker hadn't fumbled a bunch of times and had 5 or 6 batted passes - if they had run McCaffrey more than 4 times the first half ... the Panthers would have won.

While I agree the score shouldn't have been close and the Browns overall played MUCH better than the score indicates - there's a lot of "what ifs" that can go both ways. Bottom line - we won. I expect the Browns to crush the Jets and I expect Njoku and Cooper to have TD's and 70+ yards apiece this week. Chubb and Hunt to continue where they left off vs Panthers. Defense to not allow more than 16 points. I am looking forward to Sunday very much.

I wonder how much the following will factor into the game?

Quote
Cleveland Browns, New York Jets share defensive DNA

Coach Kevin Stefanski mentioned on Wednesday a connection between his team and the one they're playing on Sunday, the New York Jets, is a similar defensive philosophy. That's not a surprise considering Woods was Jets coach Robert Saleh's defensive backs coach when Saleh was the defensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers.

Woods acknowledges the connection. However, he doesn't believe it's a complete facsimile between the two defenses.

“There are parts of our defense that are very similar," Woods said. "I know there are different things they do because I have talked to [Saleh]. I talked to him about a week ago. There are different things that they do and there are different things that we do because I have pulled from different systems where I have been. There is some carryover, which I know will help our offense just in terms of practice. It is going to help us, too, because we know what they like to do at times.”

Browns don't expect 59 pass attempts from New York Jets QB Joe Flacco
The Jets' second-year starting quarterback, Zach Wilson, continues to recover from a preseason knee injury. That's given the position to a familiar face to Browns fans, former Baltimore Ravens Super Bowl champion Joe Flacco.

Flacco, who came into the league in 2008, is fifth among active quarterbacks in passing yards with 41,576. On Sunday, he threw for 307 yards in a 24-6 loss to his former team.

However, it's how Flacco got there that even the Browns' defensive coaches don't feel is totally within what the Jets want to do. He threw the ball 59 times in the game, completing 37, with a touchdown and an interception.

“I don’t think that is what they really want to do," Woods said. "I think they really want to establish the run game and build their play-action pass game off of that. Teams that throw the ball like that, it usually means that they are behind. I am sure we will see a little bit different game plan early, but I definitely do not think they want to throw the ball that much.”

I mentioned before week 1 what a lowly ranked team Panthers are according to Roster / Power rankings. Well we are very fortunate - Jests are ranked equally low. SI have Panthers 32nd and the Jests 31st.

Seriously if we can't get off to a 2-0 start we are in trouble.

The Jets also run a very similar offense to us. Their offensive coordinator is Mike LeFleur (brother of the Packers head coach). He coached with Kyle Shanahan for years. Stefanski ripped his offense from Gary Kubiak. The difference is that Stefanski doesn’t stick strictly to the same system, he incorporates things from other offenses. Even Andrew Berry and the Jets GM, Joe Douglas, spent a year together in Philadelphia.

It is definitely an interesting matchup. These teams have similar DNA.

It is a game where we do have a better roster.

The Jets do have a good defensive line. So, it is kind of strength on strength thing.

Their big problem is OL. And that is a big problem when you have slow immobile quarterback.

I kind of hate these games because if somehow weird things happen and things go wrong. You look foolish losing.

It sure would nice to go 2-0. I don't care about the schedule looking easy.

Is this the game that knocks the Browns out of the playoff hunt?
Yeah it could be.

It Would be nice to have a real @uarterback and receivers.
To Score points which matter

I expect a low scoring game tomorrow. Maybe like 13-10 or 16-12 or something. Winning the turnover and penalty battles will be important.

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

From what I’ve read this week, the dog-ass Jets have a front that gets after it. Screens, quick outs would slow them down. I think they’re down to their 3rd string LT, so...... smile smile.

The biggest edge we have IMO is that our DL should put a lot of heat on their OL, thusly, Flacco will have his hands full. He’s a wily vet though, he’s seen everything three times. And I do not care how good their receivers are, we have a very talented secondary. I think this is a double digit win.

The Jets are an awful team in every sense of the word.

Browns should be embarrassed if they lose this.

Sometimes, I think people make outrageous claims just so on the off-chance they are right, they can make some wildly bold proclamations afterwards. I guess that is fine, but there is another Browns/Jets thread for that stuff. This one is supposed to be about matchups and football related.

Especially for the Brissett era, the key match-ups the rest of the way will be our O-line V the D line in the run game. Then it will be our DTs against the other teams guards and center.

If we can keep the dam from breaking up the middle v their run, and we can run the ball, we should be in every game and win a good number.

This is one we need to, and should win. We need to win all of the should win games. No flub up's there.

I am a little worried because the Jets shut down Baltimore's running game last week. Lamar exploited them through the air. JB is not Lamar.

I also worry about the skill players the Jets have on offense. Our pass rush should dominate their OL. If it doesn't, there could be issues.

I do think we have a large advantage in the coaching match-up. I liked Saleh as a DC in SF, but he seems to be in way over his head as a HC.

I agree. Sooner or later a team is going to put a clamp on our run game. Maybe it is today. If that is the case, Brissett and the receivers are going to have to pull through. So is the staff. They will have to pivot the gameplan and get us going in to some passing concepts that give the other team trouble and our players can execute.

This might be a game where we come out passing a bit early in the game. I can see this game starting with a play action pass to the deeper 3rd of the Jets defense. Maybe not a out and out bomb, but maybe more a deep seam route to Bryant or Joke. Maybe Hunt on a wheel.

Just one of those set-up plays telling the Jets they can't jam the box all day.

This excerpt is part of a larger article, but I think the points are relevant to this week's key matchups.

Quote
Cornering the market: While Cleveland’s secondary had communication issues in Week 1, New York’s cornerback duo D.J. Reed and Sauce Garnder had a very productive opening weekend.

Reed and Gardner combined for a 0.0 passer rating when targeted by Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson as Reed did not allow a reception and Gardner allowed only one catch for 8 yards.

Even with the effort by Reed and Gardner the Jets allowed three touchdown passes, including a 55-yarder by Baltimore wide receiver Rashod Bateman, so if Brissett can keep his poise there should be opportunities for a big play or two in the passing game.

A big day from Myles Garrett: In four career games against the Jets, defensive end Myles Garrett has eight sacks, including multiple sacks in three of the games, to go with 11 quarterback hits and 17 pressures.

On Sunday the unenviable task of trying to slow down Garrett will fall to left tackle George Fant, who posted a pass blocking grade of 56 against the Ravens, which landed him at No. 52 among the 63 offensive tackles graded by Pro Football Focus in Week 1.

Related: Myles Garrett closing in on franchise sack record

New York quarterback Joe Flacco took three sacks, was hit 11 times and pressured on 19 of his pass attempts last week against the Ravens, and there should be ample opportunities for Garrett to add to his sack total and help send the Jets on the path to their 14th consecutive loss in the month of September.

A Final Quote
Offensive coordinator Alex Van Pelt on tight end David Njoku (quote via a team-provided transcript):

“David’s production was huge in the game, not just on the catches but his ability to run block and what he does with his physicality is special. He is a big, big part of our success in the run game, as well. We will get him more involved. We had him on a down-the-field throw using his speed. The linebacker added on late and it was our only sack of the game, but he was running wide open and that would have been a huge play to David if we had got that pressure picked up.”

https://www.dawgsbynature.com/2022/9/17/23357160/cleveland-browns-new-york-jets-week-2-need-to-know

As you can see, the corners for the Jets were effective. Their safeties were not. That was also pointed out in the video I posted earlier on this thread. Could this be a big day for Njoku and/or Bryant? Can we get our slot receiver matched-up w/one of their safeties? Can we run a wheel route w/one of our backs against a LBer or safety?
