As a Buckeyes fan, I was quite content beating Michigan and going to the Rose Bowl given that we were beaten by an unranked team on our own field. There isn't a team in the country deserving of being in the championship game this year. The old bowl system would have been perfect for this total mess.

The aforementioned player put it perfectly: "We're quite happy going to the Rose Bowl, but if nobody else wants the championship game, we'll take it."

I hope we play LSU and stomp a mudhole in them. Let ole Les Miles see exactly what he will be getting himself into.

????

Whats so confusing about that peen? is your old age getting the best of ya

No....it was reported many times yesterday that Miles is staying at LSU.

I really don't understand your comment if it doesn't pertain to that.

Well he was just speculating like everyone else that he might still go there after the bowl game....or in a year or 2.....that is all...

So he's staying?

I hadn't heard. I wasn't at home much yesterday and didn't really watch t.v so I hadn't heard anything about it.

I'll believe it after the bowl games are played.

All I can do is attempt to catch you up to speed.. It is up to you two if you don't want to believe what he has said in 2-3 interviews since yesterday morning.

No. 1 Missouri and No. 2 West Virginia? Sorry, you had your chance. You're out, even though you'll probably still be ranked in the top 10.

True statement, right there.

No. 3 Ohio State? You're the only one of the major conference champions with only one defeat, so you're in.

Rightfully so.

That leaves pretty much everybody else in the top 10 worthy of consideration. Let's hear their positions for and against, leading to Sunday's 5 p.m. BCS announcement:

Who says so ??

Only once before has a non-league champion worked its way into a national championship game, and that 2001 Nebraska team would up being embarrassed by Miami, 37-14.

Wrong, Oklahoma lost the Big 12 Title game the year they played LSU for the BCS.

On LSU -- and both of our losses went triple-overtime.

Isn't a LOSS still spelled with an "L" ??

You are ranked this highly mostly because of reputation, not because you're a dominant team.

This statement applies to both LSU AND Ohio State.

and finally,...

You started the week ranked No. 7 for a reason — you had your chance, twice falling out of BCS championship-game position by losing (to Kentucky and Arkansas), and you ended the regular season losing to an unranked team. Take your SEC title and go to the Sugar Bowl and be happy.

No anti-SEC bias there huh,...?

I was talking to a non-Buckeye fan recently and he said " the only time OSU fans want a playoff is when the Buckeyes aren't #1 or #2.". Well, I'm a huge Buckeye fan and I still think NCAA football needs an 8 team playoff.

that's garbage, most buckeye fans that i know all say that there needs to be a playoff... regardless of whether or not they are in the top 2....

another dumb assumption by people that just dislike ohio state...

there are a boatload of ohio state fans on this board, and in the few years i've been around here, i don't think i've ever heard someone say that they like the bcs...

I can't say I dislike the BCS, becasue I like it better than the old bowl system,....can't say it don't need tweaking though. I am not "anti-playoff" though I could care less if there is one -- it wouldn't be for the right reasons anyway, it's only about the money -- the CASH -- the Cha Ching !! Nobody, in power, really cares who wins the thing.

And if there was a playoff, Ohio State would be a major competitor every year.

You're not bad at making argument adjustments,... Give me your rundown on why Oklahoma should be 2 vs. LSU. I would ask to throw USC into the same comparison, but they lost to Stanford,....way above the level of Oklahoma's stub vs, TexasTech. And make sure you put their OOC games in there.

This going to get really ugly with Hawaii at 12-0.

Oklahoma lost to Colorado and Texas Tech. Both teams that were .500 in the Big 12. Colorado was 6-6 overall. Aside from the Stanford loss, that is the worst team one of the possible participants lost to. Texas Tech is a decent team but guess who they lost to? Colorado. The same Colorado team that lost to Florida State, Arizona State, Kansas State by 27, Iowa State and Missouri.......by 45!!!!!!!!!!!

While USC is playing great football......you can't lose to a 41 point underdog and get in when there's other worthy 2 loss schools.

LSU lost twice in 3OT's to (8-4) Arkansas and (7-5) Kentucky. The Kentucky loss is viewed as their worst, which is still a lot better football team then Stanford or Colorado.

It's really an argument of who's **** stinks the least. In the end, it's probably LSU by a hair over Oklahoma.

Had Virginia tech not lost by such a huge margin to LSU, they would probably go as their losses would have been the "best" combo (close loss to #14 BC and #2 LSU).

Can't agree more 'Turk,...but I'd feel better about supporting you if only the Dawgs had made it to the SEC Title game,....LSU didn't look "real good" beating Tennessee either. This is why I'm still straying toward the Sooners, possibly even VaTech -- nope, forget that, they lost to LSU BIG. Hell, I'm about to get on the Hawaii bandwagon,....

I don't see how OSU fans even have a gripe about who else may get in as well. OSU lost at home to an unranked team in their second to last game. If that disqualifies LSU, then why doesn't it disqualify Ohio State?

Because 1 is usually less than 2,...??

Nobody's griping, just asking questions. And Illinois is not an unranked team. The season is a whole season. I believe in playing out the entire season before judging where/what a team WAS ranked when you played them. Illinois is now going to the Rose Bowl as the Big 10 rep -- what's that based on ??

Well that may be so but why are other people calling the Arkansas loss as one to an unranked team then? They're #25.

Because it's exactly why the BCS was put in place. To AVOID splitting the national title between two teams that didn't get to play each other. It's not settling it on the field if everyone has to clamor and make a case on why their team sucked the least. It turns in to an election, not a sport.

Surely, the focus is going to be negative from now until the BCS games in what was otherwise a great year. I don't see how that's a positive? Will they be talking about it? Sure, people will but they'll be arguing what system and team sucks the least. I don't see how that's a good thing?

My brother-in-law told me if we get back to the national championship game again he is deff going and I have to go with him, since I went last year and he couldn't. So were working on the details and I am crunching numbers to see if I can go. With Christmas coming up it's gonna be difficult. But not impossible.

I'm trying to figure out how we're gonna have a split title,...but I find it hard to do before we can see how these polls come out this evening first.

Hell, Ohio State MAY not even be the # 1 team,....

Will USC play Illinois ?? Would destroying them be enough for the AP to issue them a paper championship,...while either Oklahoma or LSU destroys Ohio State in the Title game ???

I just don't think it's all as bad as we make it out to be.

VATech was higher ranked going into yetaerdays games, that is with LSUs whooping of them already factored in. VaTech beat a higher ranked team easier than LSU beat a lower ranked team. How could you justify moving LSU over VATECH??

My scenario was LSU beating OSU by 7 or less and having Oklahoma absolutely destroy Georgia (or whoever else) or having USC blast Illinois.

Any situation in which one of the other deserving 1 loss teams wins huge while LSU barely squeaks it out.

That's a really good point/counter-argument, but when you boil it down to making out your poll ballot, these voters are going swing that vote between those 2 teams based on THAT result,...yes, it stinks, but that's how it works.

I'll still bide my time -- watching the Browns -- and wait to see how many voters swing around in the AP, the Coaches and Harris. I think that'll go a long way in determining if there is a danger factor for a split,...in any case, you know how I feel. If LSU wins the title game, I buy an LSU flag for the pole.

Kansas drops one spot and Georgia stays where it was without playing, and Ohio State gains two positions. The voters, once again, aren't voting for teams, but rather voting for the match-up that they want. This is why having a large percentage determined by computers made more sense than having it determined by voters. Voters are idiots. lol

Yeah, there in lies the problem. Humans can't get out of their own way.

The past two seasons, a team that was ranked #2 (Michigan) or should have been ranked #2 (Georgia) (if the polls functioned as they do the other 13 weeks of the season) has been bumped out of that spot simply because they didn't play the last week.

While I understand why (not winning conference), I can't believe this is the best possible solution. If you don't want to face the prospect of a team actually getting in, DON'T PUT THEM IN THE POSITION TO.

While I don't believe either of those teams should have probably gotten in, why the hell do the voters keep them there and even present the possibility of such a scenario playing out?

It's really nauseating at this point. The precedent they're setting is that the polls are apparently worthless for the first 13 weeks of the season, regardless of where you're ranked.

The Coaches are out too,...LSU got 11 first place votes there also,....wonder what 11 coaches those were,....

I agree with log,...maybe we need to go back to the computers at 50% vs 33.

Oklahoma is really getting screwed here. I would love for all of the Big Ten's coaches to skew their votes to Oklahoma,...Ohio State STILL would have been # 1 anyway,....

While I agree to a point, I have no problem with LSU jumping Georgia or VaTech, .....but Oklahoma TOO ??? It's BS, because LSU didn't drop as far as they should have after the Arkansas loss. IF Ohio State had beaten Illinois, how far do you think they would have fallen with a loss to Michigan,...?? That's right, COMPLETELY OUT of the Top Ten.

Hopefully they will be as flip-flopped on LSU -- Oklahoma as they were last week on West Virginia and Mizz,...

That way it will at least be gnat's-ass close, as it should be. I hope it comes down to one single vote on one single ballot. I love the math.

This ranking system is awful if you really think about it. Georgia is ranked right behind us, but sounds like they will get screwed here. So what's the point of ranking the teams this way? I'm all for ranking the teams and having a 4 team playoff. Anything over 4 teams IMO is too long of a season since it would be adding 2 whole games to their schedules.

We have a Harris Poll voter on a local radio station (WKNR) named Kenny Roda. He's a huge Buckeye fan and makes no bones about it ... I can only guess that the rest of the voters are pretty much the same when it comes to their local teams. I was about to say that the Coaches poll was the one I trusted most, but then I thought these guys (coaches) probably have seen less of the other conferences than I have, seeing as how they are coaching on game day and the only film they watch is of upcoming opponents. Plus, the coaches have their own agendas too with regards to conference loyalty, and with the possibility of your higher vote for a conference cohort getting your team to a better bowl game. In other words, its a total cluster-<BLEEP>.

I hope that if we play LSU we are huge underdogs coming into the game. It will light a fire in them ala Florida.

Hawaii got screwed over. Hopefullly they still get a bcs spot.

As a Big Ten fan, I "suppose" I should be hoping NOT,...but the good guy in me says however, even if it might eliminate Illinois from the Rose, Hawaii deserves a BCS Game; pretty much just like Boise State last year who PROVED they rated to be there,....fluke or not.
