He's really had a good year. A huge improvement over the The Scottish Shanker. Good move by Berry bringing Bojo in.

Clowney was sent home today. he’s done. Maybe we’ll get a comp pick next year

"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."

Just so everyone knows.........the Clowney topic had been being discussed in the Defense thread before WSU posted the link to what he deemed not a good look. So, there is more content in that thread if anyone wants to look.

Another hole to fill for 2023 with that bridge burnt...dead cap $$$ into the future for a guy (another guy) no longer here...dissent in the ranks...again. Common denominator?

Holding on to a lame duck coach is akin to staying in a failed marriage "for the good of the kids".

I bet that had Clowney not been disciplined for his comments, some posters would come on here and talk about how soft Stefanski and the Browns are. How they let the players get away w/anything and there is no accountability. And how this proves that Stefanski needs to be fired.

No, you're making a wild assumption. I would ask you though, where was Stefanski when Garrett, Delpit, and Johnson III went public with their feelings? I don't pretend to know what's going on behind the scenes, but it does strike me as appearing totally unfair for some to be able to make negative comments, yet others are penalized. I mean, even Garrett's Dad has made negative comments about the benching of Garrett, so I ask you, what do you call Stefanski's use of accountability without fairness or equal application? Inquiring minds just want to know.

Nope? LOL..........I have seen posters play both sides of the fence repeatedly throughout the season. It's not wild speculation when those things have occurred before.

While I don't agree with how others, including Myles, have spoken out this season; I feel that's best pacified by your simple statement: I don't pretend to know what's going on behind the scenes... at which point, you then pretend to know what's going on behind the scenes.

Please compare Clowney's statements, two days before the season finale, to others. Tell me why he wouldn't be sent home, how it is unfair, and what kind of reaction you would expect if he wasn't sent home.

The message being sent to the rest of the team..don't talk about the Browns decision making process or paint a picture of dysfunction within the franchise.

It is a tailor made opportunity to show how tough Stefanski is when it comes to discipline...sending a player home with one game to play, knowing the Browns were not going to resign him next season.

Yet I never heard you say anything about Garrett, JJ3 and others when they had negative comments about the way the D was going. Selective retribution?

Actually, I did say things about them. I chastised both guys. On the other hand, what they said isn't even close to what Clowney said. Also, at least the other two show up to play and practice.

I'm not questioning the discipline being applied to Clowney. I'm just questioning the fairness of the discipline and it being applied equally.

Garrett:
Myles Garrett is frustrated, with good reason, by Joel W. Cade1 month ago
Myles Garrett, considered a leader on the Browns defense, has been taking cryptic shots at the coaching staff all season. His most recent quip calls into question the direction, or lack thereof, of the defense.

Johnson III:
Chris Easterling wrote: 10/19 BEREA − It's a motto that is linked to a completely different NFL franchise. However, Browns safety John Johnson III believes there's something to be said about the Raiders' "Commitment to excellence" mantra.
Specifically, Johnson believes there's something the Browns defense can take from the first word of that motto to change the trajectory of what has been one of the league's worst defenses statistically.
"Yeah, it's a commitment thing," Johnson said Wednesday. "When practice is over and our day is done, you can't just run out of the building and forget about your job. I think we need everyone in this building to really be a 100 percent in on the task at hand.
"Right now, I think we're at a place where that's not the case. So, whatever we gotta do to get as many guys, if not everyone in on the same page I think that's what it is. Because that's the only way things are going to change."

Delpit and anonymous:
Heavy.com on 11/21
The Cleveland defense was gashed once again on Sunday against the Bills, allowing Buffalo to run away with the 31-23 win behind 171 rushing yards. Browns safety Grant Delpit gave some worrisome insight into the unit after Cleveland fell to 3-7.
“Gotta stop the run. Simple,” Delpit said. “In order to have trust, you’ve got to know what you’re doing. The team has got to have faith that they know what they’re doing. If you don’t know what you’re doing, it never works.”
Delpit gave some further insight into what that statement exactly meant.
“In the run game, you’ve got to know what your fit is. If you don’t know what your fit is or you jump out of your gap, the run is going to bust every time,” Delpit said. “You’ve got to know your fits.”
Along with Delpit, an anonymous Browns defensive player told Jason Lloyd of The Athletic that there has been internal frustration about the lack of adjustments made by defensive coordinator Joe Woods. “When s**t ain’t working, change it,” he said. “We don’t f***ing change anything.”

It wasn't and won't be applied equally. Clowney wasn't going to be here next year anyway and with only one meaningless game left the impact would be minimal. It makes it very easy to make him the sacrificial lamb in this situation. They have too much invested in Myles and JJ3 is still under contract for next year. It was an easy business decision to send a message. That wouldn't have been the case with the other two.

Which means you have no leadership and lost the locker room because it doesn't matter what you do - it's only matters who does it. So, is Clowney wrong it stating Garrett gets special treatment then?

I won't answer that question even though the answer is pretty obvious. An honest answer would be a call for someone to claim I hate the Browns.

WE don't seem to have much discipline on this team and haven't had it for a long time at least not since Eric Mangini was here. That's the last time I remember it.

He's a jerk because he expects to go, or because he called out the poor coaching we have all been calling out? Fans like you, throwing players under the bus, ruin the board for me. This man has done nothing but play well for us since being here. Yes, he's had some injuries and missed some time here and there, but we knew he was long in the tooth and injury prone coming in. There are NO surprises here. If the FO and coaches can't get it right, how can we expect talent to want to stay? This entire year was one big ass debacle that we'll pay the price for it for at least a decade.

I guess it puts an exclamation point to the end of a another ridiculous season.

But I have trouble caring too much since he wasn't going to be here next season anyway, nor would he have been an asset had he stayed.

Except for Garrett, the entire DL needs retooling regardless.

jay, we are also discussing this on another thread [btw--I don't like when the same subject is on two threads because it fractures the conversation,] but Clowney pulled this same sort of crap when he was in college at S. Carolina. It also did not sit well w/some of his coaches and teammates.

Clowney....a done deal. He was never going to be here next season anyway. As he was not on the field all that much, he won't be particularly missed.

Do you have a notebook keeping score? What record? When it comes to coaching do you mean those that called for the jobs of the former Browns HC's? You know HC's that never went on to be successful NFL HC's anywhere else? That record?

You're superiority complex is showing again.

My thoughts on Clowney is, don't let the door hit ya where the good lord split ya. I think the odds were slim that he was going to be back next year anyways so why not give Winovich and the rookie Wright some playing time. I liked Winovich coming out of college and he did a pretty good job with NE his first 2 years even though he didn't start much, I think he can be a really good backup DE and maybe even see some snaps at LB.

I disliked Clowney before Thursday - I've always thought he was tremendously overrated because of an exceptional play in college - he's moved to #2 on my "eternally disliked Browns" list behind only Odell with his comments to MKC. I pray the Browns can find a way to replace his "great against the run" reputation and perhaps take those 170 yards rushing against per game down to 160 or better in the future. I wish him nothing but the worst on the field going forward, may God have mercy on his soul.

He wasn't going to be back next year. That's what made him an easy target to make an example out of. Players have been making negative comments to the press all season. But they were stars and players who were going to be under contract moving forward. That would make it far more difficult to make an example out of. With Clowney it was very easy. You know, the path of least resistance. When the fans don't care much for him and he will only be here for another week, it made using him as an example and doing nothing to the other players all year for doing the same thing an easy decision. It at least gives the public appearance of being a tough minded HC.

Which players said the org didn't care about winning and "I don't need this sh*t, just let me get the hell out of here"?

JC made an example out of himself, Stefanski just pressed the EASY button.

So then you're saying it really has nothing to do with players making negative comments about the team and or coaching staff but the level of those comments? So what Myles said to the press didn't involve negativity toward the coaching staff? In the legal system it's what one would call selective prosecution. There are always degrees of the same infraction. Just like there's a world of difference between involuntary manslaughter and first degree murder. And no, this wasn't a crime. It is however a perfect example of showing there are degrees of the same end result.

The least the coaching staff could have done was release a statement when the first negative comment was made in the press this season that such things would not be tolerated moving forward. But all we heard was crickets from them the entire time. Not a peep. Then suddenly the hammer comes down.
