From the guys, I'd pick Paul Rodgers (Free, Bad Company) ... couldn't get enough of a song called "Wishing Well" from an old Free album.
From the ladies, I would pick either Ann Wilson (Heart) or Grace Slick (Jefferson Airplane, etc). A special Honorable Mention goes out to Linda Ronstadt, whom I had a crush on until I was ... uhh ... 43.
(that's me on the horse ... right after Linda yelled for the security guard)
If you have never heard of Jared Leto, he was in God of War with Nicholas Cage and a bunch of other movies. Personally I think his voice is amazing. Never expect an actor to be able to belt it out like him.

Oh and how could I forget Sebastian Bach of Skid Row. He hit's notes I have never to this day heard alot of singers hit.
As for women singers......
Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Rait, The chick from Flyleaf, Amy Winehouse of Evanessence (when she's not hammered), Pat Benetar back in the day and i'm sure there are more.
These two just popped into my head but a couple other good female rock singers that I can't believe it took me this long to remember are Pat Benatar(sp) and Joan Jett.
Let me see if I can find a video of the girl from Flyleaf. They are a Christian rock band and the song "All around me" is a song about god, i'm not into that a whole lot but the song kicks major ass.
No.......but if they didn't start recording before the early nineties and don't get air-time on country stations...that's why.
I finally hit the generation gap with rock and only know the new country artists....I have listened to country all my life and rock all my life...but the rock over the last 15-20 years pretty much sucks IMO...it is all pretty much rehashed stuff from 10-20-30...even 40 years ago.
Some of the stuff I heard the other day while scanning the dial that sounded like surfer music from the 60's.....just jazzed up a bit and a little heavier.....and all the singers sound the same.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
Quote: Another modern rocker who I think has a great voice is Ben from Breaking Benjamin
I have to agree with you here. Benjamin Burnley has an amazing voice. He changes from high and low pitch so well and has a very unique voice. I'm kind of biased simply because I have no clue who 75% of the people posted so far are, but being 20 I can't bring myself to get into a lot of the "older" music. Not saying its bad, just saying I can't make an educated opinions on those singers.
I remember in 1989 at the Parmatown mall they were at whichever record store doing signings and i had them sign the back of my jean jacket. they were not as attractive as they look in video, but expect for the drummer (ugly bigtime) they were relatively cute!
Robert Plant Freddy Mercury Paul Rogers Mark Farner Ian Gillan Greg Lake Steve Tyler Rod Evans Rod Stewart Jim Morrison Steve Marriott Ian Ashbury David Gilmour David Byron Roger Daltrey
The list goes on and on!
If I had to hand it to only ONE.......it would be Robert Plant.
The vocals on Physical Graffiti are just awesome to say the least!
Whats funny and true about Lita ford, her husband Jim Gillette hits higher notes then she can. He never made it big but played for a band called Nitro.

The thing is, he is just as good live as he is on his CDs. Did you get to see them with 3 Days Grace this summer?? If you did you say Ben come out and sing the one song with 3DG. Gave me goosebumps he was so good. Yeah I kind of had a mancrush on him for a sec.

You may be in the drivers seat but God is holding the map. #GMSTRONG

Nah, I missed that tour when it was close to me. A buddy and I were going to go, but by the time he got back to me on what tickets he wanted, they were sold out. I've listened to Breaking Benjamin all the way back when they were a no name band called Phase 9 and seeing them live is on the top of my list of things to do.
Quote: I saw this band open for Bon Jovi a few years ago... Jaded Era. Probably one of the best female rock voices I've heard.
Jaded Era is a local band (from Cuyahoga Falls) that all went to Elementary School together (same Catholic School that I went to for Junior High). I also used to work with the brother of one of the bandmates (Jeff).
But, Kira (lead singer) does have a really good voice. I've also listened to one of her side projects (The Strange Familiar, with Jaded Era bandmate Jeff). Some good stuff by both of her projects.
