So trump valued his properties far above the appraised values to banks in order to secure loans. What would you call that?
Business. Commercial properties are different than residential. Residential is pretty straight forward. Commercial properties take in to account projected rents over the term of the loan and projected occupancy rates. That would include regular people who want to buy a 2nd property to rent for income.
Just like the homeowner goes to the county clerk to challenge a new property assessment they disagree with, in commercial you try to sell the bank on higher rents and occupancy to secure the loan. You aren't going to get the loan if you go in and project 50% vacancy and declining rental rates.
I am not trying to argue the point. I am just trying my best to explain it, and by no means an I am expert in finance.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
This may not be totally related to the legal questions in Georgia, but I have brought this up several months back and pertains to my earlier comment, but it didn't gain much attention.
The problem in commercial is a big problem. Once Covid hit, people started working at home and in many cases haven't returned to the office. Now we have office building that are half empty. Banks would lend money feeling that a building would be 90% full. They were worth the money the bank would lend. Now with buildings that aren't full the buildings have lost value. To a critical level I might add.
This wasn't bad lending practices or crooked dealings by developers. It was an unforeseen situation. Business has to start filling the offices again. People are going to have to stop working from home or we are going to have a serious crisis. I mean a big time crash in real estate and banking that will impact all levels of the global economy.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
Then there is the fact that he said his slightly less than 11,000 sq. ft. Trump Tower condo was 30,000 sq. ft. Are we to believe that a real estate real estate developer can't tell the difference between 11k sq. ft. and 30k sq. ft.? Because there's no way in hell that I'm a real estate developer and I certainly.
And in terms of commercial property, those who appraise commercial properties are fully aware of how to place value on them.

Once his name went on a property, he tripled t’s value for loan purposes… defend that.

It's not a matter of defending. He is a developer. I don't know what plans he had for any or each property. The banks had to approve the business plan.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
It's not a question of take it or leave it. It's a question of if I believe those who appraise commercial properties don't understand and take into account the point you made in their process of appraising commercial properties. The years in question were well before Covid as well. And you still didn't address if you honestly believe trump as a real estate developer can't tell the difference in an apartment that is just less that 11k sq. ft. and one that is 30k sq. ft. But I didn't expect that you would.

And of course Gym Jordan is trying to interfere with a state criminal trial to try to protect trump.....
Fulton County DA tears into Rep. Jim Jordan over his inquiry into Trump indictment
“Your letter makes clear that you lack a basic understanding of the law, its practice, and the ethical obligations of attorneys generally and prosecutors specifically,” Fani Willis wrote in a letter to the Republican probing her.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis on Thursday rebuked House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan for his decision to investigate the Georgia election interference probe that led to the indictment of former President Donald Trump and 18 other defendants.
In a letter, Willis, a Democrat, accused Jordan, R-Ohio, of overstepping his congressional authority with his recent requests for information pertaining to her investigation.
Willis, who was responding to a letter Jordan sent in late August, said there is "no justification in the Constitution for Congress to interfere with a state criminal matter."
Trump was charged in Fulton County last month with felony racketeering and numerous conspiracy charges in the 41-count indictment, which named a total of 19 defendants. Jordan announced that he was launching a congressional probe into Willis' investigation shortly before Trump surrendered to the jail in Fulton County.
"The obvious purpose" of Jordan's requests, Willis said, "is to obstruct a Georgia criminal proceeding and to advance outrageous partisan misrepresentations." She said that his public statements and recent letter "make clear that you lack any legitimate legislative purpose for that inquiry."
"Your job description as a legislator does not include criminal law enforcement, nor does it include supervising a specific criminal trial because you believe that doing so will promote your partisan political objectives," she said.
"Your letter makes clear that you lack a basic understanding of the law, its practice, and the ethical obligations of attorneys generally and prosecutors specifically," Willis added.
The district attorney then wrote that while "settled constitutional law" permits her "to ignore your unjustified and illegal intrusion into an open state criminal prosecution," she would reply to some parts of his original letter.
Willis also said that if people want to avoid felony charges in Fulton County such as violations of the state's racketeering, or RICO, laws, then they shouldn't commit those felonies.
She wrote that Jordan's questioning of the length of the investigation and timing of the indictment is "unfounded," adding that he had no basis to imply that her office has inappropriately spent federal funds. She explained that her office receives federal grant funds from the Department of Justice and warned that if Congress were to block her office from that money, "you will be deciding to allow serial rapists to go unprosecuted, hate crimes to be unaddressed, and to cancel programs for at-risk children."
Willis also listed a number of "suggestions for productive activity" by the Judiciary Committee, including that Congress should increase federal grant funds to allow for testing of untested rape kits and expand a program for children who are in trouble with the criminal justice system.
Finally, she said that since Jordan seems to have a personal interest in her office, "you should consider directing the USDOJ to investigate the racist threats that have come to my staff and me because of this investigation."
Jordan's office did not immediately return a request for comment.
Chris Christie said it the best. Modern day Republicans can't say they're the party of "small government" and then follow that up by throwing the weight of the Government at things just because they don't like them.

Republicans don't have much choice. Democrats have weaponized government for political gain over and over. Not to dig too far into the past, but I seem to recall the Obama administration using the IRS to target republicans.
My point is it is rather naive of Chris to say something like that.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
I'm not sure what he can say about that. I mean, she kinda spells it out pretty well.

This makes me wonder about something. If the whole argument about the 14th amendment proves usable, would it not apply to guys like Gaitz, comer and Jordan and McCarthy and a bunch of others?

That is a big steaming pile of BS.
Do you call various DA's and Special Counsels doing there job as weaponization?
These people have all been indicted by regular people and those DA's and SC's have just done their jobs.

Not going to dig into how Goper’s have weaponized the Supreme Court over and over are you?

So, I looked up the IRS thing, because I honestly did not remember that. According to the Wikipedia page, it triggered an investigation by the AG, who was Eric Holder at the time. The Treasury Department, in 2017 (Trump era), released an IG report that the IRS used both liberal conservative keywords to choose targets.
I found these paragraphs in particular:
In January 2014, James Comey, who at the time was the FBI director, told Fox News that its investigation had found no evidence so far warranting the filing of federal criminal charges in connection with the controversy, as it had not found any evidence of "enemy hunting", and that the investigation continued. On October 23, 2015, the Justice Department declared that no criminal charges would be filed. On September 8, 2017, the Trump Justice Department declined to reopen the criminal investigation into Lois Lerner, a central figure in the controversy.[3]
In October 2017, the Trump administration agreed to settle a lawsuit filed on behalf of more than four hundred conservative nonprofit groups who claimed that they had been discriminated against by the Internal Revenue Service for an undisclosed amount described by plaintiffs' counsel as "very substantial." The Trump administration also agreed to settle a second lawsuit brought by forty-one conservative organizations with an apology and an admission from the IRS that subjecting them to "heightened scrutiny and inordinate delays" was wrongful.[4][5]
So I don't really see where it was an administration or politician that weaponized the Government. I can't, for the life of me, imagine the Trump administration coming in either and not wanting to blow the doors off any such wrongdoing either. That would have been political points "for days".
I think Christie was spot on. This isn't being left with "no choice." No one forced DeSantis' hand to do what he did to Disney. In the present case, you and I both well know that was Jordan is doing is unconstitutional and flies in the core principal that all conservatives have which is states' rights. We have been preaching that for decades. If you want to call Christie out for something, though, you could call him out for his own hypocrisy. THe dude shut down a bridge to spite a political opponent if I remember.

It's just something they use to try and make themselves feel better about the house republicans trying to undermine the judicial system. When someone on their side must face justice they label it political. I guess they must consider everyone on four separate grand juries that indicted these people as political. Because that's why they're going to trial.

Lol if these were democrat leaders in Congress doing the same, they’d be charged and convicted by now. Letting them off the hook for misleading and lying to Americans is a crime in itself.

I don't know about that. Bill Clinton perjured himself under oath in a deposition and he was never prosecuted. Of course most people aren't unless it's an actual trial. But you may be right. We're living in a different time now.
A time when the Christian right and the party of family vales supports man who bragged about grabbing women by the pu$$Y, has cheated on all three of his wives, had to pay off a porn star for cheating on his current wife and who was found to have committed sexual assault against a woman in a department store dressing room. That NEVER would have happened when Clinton was president. They made it sound like a BJ was the worst sin in the world back then.

These are all things that either he's admitted or has been found guilty of.
Anyone that pretends to be a Law and Order republican can't possibly support a guy that did these things. Let alone the other things he's accused of.

I was talking about if democrat leaders in Congress were trying to overthrow our democracy by calling democrat governors and leaders of states they don’t represent to get them to throw out votes of the opposition. They’d all be in jail by now. The party that claims an election was rigged was the party trying to rig it.

No kidding. It's like this entire Hunter Biden thing. If they had him, he'd be in cuffs now. But they don't have the goods, of that I'm convinced.
As for the so called "Biden Crime Family" thing, if they had the proof, they'd be under investigation or indictment.

I certainly think we'll find that Hunter was at least guilty of the gun charge and tax evasion. He has paid all the back taxes but that doesn't change the fact he didn't pay them initially. I don't know quite how many pounds of flesh republicans think that calls for. My guess is more than someone trying to overturn the presidential election.

Not according to my understanding. That's why he was facing charges and plead guilty in the plea deal on the tax charges before the deal blew up. Unless somehow they have passed the statute of limitations since July. But even then I believe if charges are currently pending when the statute of limitations expires you are still held to the legal standard since the charges were filed before that time. It could be that the special prosecutor has decided not to pursue the tax charges since they have already been paid back. I always found that part a little strange since the taxes had already been paid. That part did seem a little unusual.
