Amazing?!
He didn't say anything. There's not one backup in the NFL, be he good or not, even #3's, who doesn't know and completely understand the stuff BQ talked about.
There was nothing "amazing" about that whatsoever.
I think maybe you just got a little excited about seeing him do well as we all did.

Well one thing's for sure.
After the CRAPFEST I just watch the Colts spew out, I wanna keep them both. Screw getting a 1 and a 3.
While I do think Quinn is right now and will be the better QB, with DA you don't scale back the offense at all. Just look at how much the Colts had to scale back with Sorgi in the game.

One more thing...
If we do end up trading DA, I definitely want an insurance policy. Someone who's started before but has worn out their welcome. Dare I say a Rex Grossman type (not him specifically, just using him as an example).
For some reason I can't shake the thought that Joey Harrington would be a pretty good backup with this talent around him. Perhaps the best option if he were to become available. He didn't do too bad with the CRAP in Atlanta this year. That said, I'm NOT a Byron Leftwich fan whatsoever. I think he's awful.
The QB market should be interesting this year...I'm reluctant to sign DA long-term but I'm reluctant to part with him too even if a first and third are had for him.

The more I've thought about it the more I think the FO is going to sign DA long term, just as the media "sources" have been reporting. We already have our QBs.... DA BQ Dorsey
Competition for the #1 job will be wide open. in '08.
As for BQ's appearance in yesterday's game--he did look good in limited action, but one must remember that it wasn't the best players in the league he faced out there. He looked good in the preseason as well...against scrubs.
The 49ers are scrubs........there are 4 elite teams in the league this year, about 4 more that are a step below, another 20 that are on a semi-even mediocre plane, and 4 that suck.....(approximately)
As for Indy altering the game-plan to dumb it down for Sorgi, that's horsehockey. He knows the playbook just fine......they didn't give a fat baby's ass whether or not they won that game.......

It's not a matter of "Favorite"...Not 4 me at least...
It's a matter of.................
After Miami took Ginn...Savage got the go ahead from other war room members to start soliciting our 2008 #1 pick to the 1st team that would take it...Dallas took it...Brady Quinn was the Target...Targeted to be the FUTURE QB OF THIS TEAM....
It's really as SIMPLE AS THAT...
We had a "Plan" in tact...That "Plan" is STILL intact...STAY THE COURSE!!!!!!!!!
Everything that's happened with Frye being traded and Anderson playing all year is nothing more than a BONUS...Now we need to POUNCE on that Bonus and reep the benefits of it...
IT'S FOR THE LONG TERM BETTERMENT OF THIS TEAM!!!!!!!!!!!
Go Browns!!!

U WIMP...
Savage was interviewed yesterday Pre Game...1st time I've ever heard him during the WTAM Pre Game Show...
Of course he was asked about this...And I take everything lightly when it comes to this stuff...He gives u just enuff that u need to know and nuttin' more...He's savy about it to say the least...
He reiterated his previous comments...We will most likely Tender Anderson the MAX...Just short of the Franchise Tag...Meaning 1st and 3rd Compensation...He went on to explain it...And he explained it correctly...
Think about this one Shep...
IF we wanted to sign Anderson Long Term...WHY Tender him at a 1 & 3 and run the risk of another team negotiating an INSANE contract with his Agent???...Why not just slap the "Franchise Tag" on him and do all negotiating in house...Cause NOONE will offer Anderson a Long Term Contract when they KNOW the Compensation for us NOT matching it is TWO 1st Rounders...
Stick THAT in your pipe and toke on it for awhile...lol...
Go Browns!!!

I have thought about it......as I know you have. Don't sit there and tell me you haven't been back and forth on the fence trying to figure out what they are going to do, and what would be the best thing to do?

It may not be the 1&3 tender......we may offer him a contract prior to the tender (I'm sure we will negotiate before tendering) and he and his agent HAVE to realize that although he has thrown up gaudy numbers GMs aren't stupid. They have seen his throws and his mechanical problems........the ball is really in our court here since: A) He didn't shock the world as an all-pro player. b) We already have BQ under contract.
Let another team give him an insane contract........and with our cap space we will gladly take their 1st and 3rd.......

I seriously doubt the war room members gave savage anything but support in his decision to shop the 2008 #1 pick. He's the VP/GM and I doubt he needed thier go ahead!
But having said that, I agree there was a plan. the plan was to keep Charlie Frye in thier until Quinn was ready..(at least that's the way I read it) but when Charlie emploded the first game, Quinn wasn't ready and they went with option # 2.. DA..
I would bet you that the plan was only altered by the names,, DA for Frye..
But WHO could have known that DA was gonna light it up against Cinci. And then lead us to a 10-6 season the way he did.
My guess is that had DA not done so well (despite what some say) he would have been replaced with Quinn at some point in the season.,.,
So yeah, there was a plan,, but I think it went right out the window because of DA's play. JMO however

I've thought about it ..and his interview he did say one curious thing..he noted the # of QB's who took snaps this year...if the Browns wind up not trading DA I think Phil will still be satisfied to a degree..it'll be a position he won't have to worry about ..in his mind.. What is disturbing is that DA didn't improve much during the season...
DA came in to this season having played in only three and a half games. You would expect him to struggle in the early going and then improve with experience. You would expect to see him make some rookie mistakes in the beginning, but see those mistakes reduced as the season went on. You look for a learning curve. It seems the decision making was errant at times.but one thing he hasn't improved on is his accuracy..and thats the key other than decision making.. Good at going long ball but inconsistant in the medium range..which is what I've been saying since training camp..
Savage confirmed this when he compared DA to a golfer who can hit the ball 350 yards but has no intermediate game.
If DA can't improve on his weaknesses ..it'll be a huge problem with a tougher schedule next season..

Brady Quinn. Smart, mobile, accurate, confident and highly invested in.
I liked what I saw of him in limited time. I was hoping he would have stayed in today, since we were ahead and the game wasn't affecting the season. We won anyways, so good enough. Now go Indy!
They COULDN'T let him play TOO long!
If the rest of the league got a GOOD LOOK at our "QB of the future" they might realise just how little DA really means to us in the grand scheme of things.
We really don't want to show them that untill AFTER DA is gone. Gotta keep his value high for the off season ya know...........

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

BQ will be our starting QB. Iam not a big BQ person I feel there is more upside to him than DA. DA throws too many bad passes and stares down his receivers. Don't think he reads defenses that well. We had a good year much better than most of us expected, I give DA all the credit he has coming. I just don't see him leading us to the top,

just clickin Ziggy.
Two words.
Scott Mitchell.
That's what I see sometimes when I look at DA.
Remember, Mitchell showed alot of promise in his first starting year with the Fins. The Lions snapped at him, throwing (if I recall) a boat load of money at him. Mitchell continued to show promise with the Lions...even turning in one really good season...but he never really matured.
Scott Mitchell.
I look at DA and I see a guy who really blossomed this year. This big guy with a big arm. Not the best completion percentage but can gun it and put up yards in a hurry.
Scott Mitchell.
Now, this could be way off base. DA did show some development this year but "bad Derek" still pokes his head up too often. Bad Derek killed us against teh Bengals. And what I'm scared of is that Bad Derek is, in fact, just Derek. A QB with a gun and a great long ball that has bouts of mental inconsistency.
The debate in my head is this: Is DA truly the second coming of Scott Mitchell or is he a developing QB that can still learn? Do we take the picks for him and make out like bandits or do we let him leave and miss out on a potential All-Pro?
This is the gamble...and one we aren;t going to be able to know. Hence, I'd have to say that if I'm the GM, I hedge my bets and hang onto him for the next year and see if he's learned and developed further. Sure, we end up sacrificing potentially grabbing picks in a draft where we don't have a first but at least we don;t get burned.
Then again, if a top 5 pick gets offered, my mind could be easily swayed...After all, sometimes when he drops back, the mind still thinks two words.
Scott Mitchell.

Good comparison on Scott MItchell. No question on arm strength. Not a good passer on short ones. Ex yesterday he thru a ball to Clements that would have been a pick six. The play was right in front of me, I could not beleive he even thru the pass. He doesn't come off primary receiver very well. I would be glad for a first and third but nothing less.

Just a few stats at the end of the year, Anderson had 29 TD passes and close to 3800 yards with a 3.6 int. %. That 3.6 int. % is pretty darn good for someone, especially a first year starter, that stares down receivers and is inaccurate. If Jeff Fisher was to offer me( as a GM) a straight up trade DA for Vince Young I would laugh in his face. Ditto for alot of older starters out there like Jon Kitna and Matt Hasselbeck. Did I mention that DA had a 3.6 int. % that was better than Carson Palmer's and Tony Romo's ?

He also only had a 56.5% completion percentage...which ranked 28th in the NFL. One of the stats I actually find important is the number of times he was sacked...14. This is down from 44 in 2006. Good job OL. As for our starting QB next year...it will be Quinn.

It depends WHEN he throws them !!!!!!!!!!!!!! If he does it in the biggest game of the year he is no good for us.Its time to sit him and watch what BQ can do.

Not really... Carson Palmer's was 3.47%.. and as I understand statistics, the lower number is better in this case right? and DA's was 3.61.. Tony Romo's was 3.65 ....

I just wanted to put my thoughts on scouting BQ in the preseason in a more permanent post than something on the "reaction to the Niners" board....
No one, and I mean no one should hate DA or think he's horrible. He's not terrible, he's just not great. He's a big reason why we're where we are, in both good and bad.
Likewise, I don't see why thinking BQ can be better is such a bad thing...especially after what we've seen out of him.
Sure, the preseason is the preseason, but you can evaluate a bit from it, otherwise there would be no preseason.
We can say "But look at Charlie Frye, he did well in the preseason." Yes he did, but it's a totally different situation and type of QB. With Frye he ran around and made plays, he didn't sit in the pocket and read through the progressions and posess extreme touch, accuracy and footwork. He also didn't and doesn't have anywhere near the skillset of BQ.
That seam route to Winslow and the should be TD to Jurevicius in the Denver game against Denver's 1st D really stands out in my mind about BQ, among other things. Yes he played against a soft zone vs. Detroit playing with scrubs when he got in but ya know what? He read the D and delivered the throw accurately, even playing with and against scrubs the speed of the NFL game is MUCH faster than the pro game and he looked unphased.
More specifically Denver sticks out in my mind though because he did some things that made me think "This kid should start as soon as he's mentally ready." He did some great things against Denver's 1st team D, a step up from the scrubs of the week before. While preseason speed and gameplanning isn't regular season speed or gameplanning, there's no doubt in my mind he's gonna adapt to the speed of the regular season and regular season D's.
I watched Baltimore, Philly and Miami in the preseason as well...Kolb and Beck looked lost (and Beck later this year proved to make Cleo freaking Lemon look like Dan Marino). Smith looked like he had some potential but was rough around the edges. None were nearly as polished, accurate, and unphased as Quinn. That's not the Browns homer in me...I don't even like Notre Dame and I'm not even dating his little sister for that matter. It's pure, unbiased view of him.
Not bad for a "wild thing," don't you think?

I sure hope that any prospective team doe NOT see this post.
DA's stats over the second half of this season, and how he ranked 150/270 (55.5%)#32 speaks for it's self, can't be spun, flat out not good.
1679yd(6.21y/att)#30 but this would equal 3360 over a full season #12 But seeing as so few QB's acctually played thier whole season i think the best way would be to use the number of 210 yds/gm which would be too hard to go through the numerous QB's that played this season
12/10 int/TD 24td would be #12th but 20 ints woud be #31st.
(int/att 3.7%)#24 this isn't horrible as it seems, he would be tied with Romo.
In a fair training camp i think BQ would blow DA away. Had BQ not held out we would all be super happy playoff bound borwnies IMO.
I know htis is a bit out of context but BQ led the team in 1 drive to 3 pts, DA had the whole rest of the game and only got 10.

So the stats ARE close, right? And Romo and Palmer are considered "elite" QBs,right? And both Romo and Palmer have huge price tags, right?
If we were to measure dollars per QB point rating who do you think would come out on top?
I'm not saying DA is an elite QB,but he appears to be a legit starter and currently at a bargain price. We really need to worry more about the defense than about the QBs. Either one will do. Have a Happy new Year.....

No, I wouldn't say that Palmer had an elite year.. in general he may be considered an elite QB.. but not this year.

If you want him here next year, it's not going to be at the same price.

It would be nice to have that first round pick that we spent on BQ. We already have a QB on the roster who is a lot cheaper and perhaps better.
I do think we could grab a 3-4 OLB w/the 57th pick. Those guys sometimes fall because they are "tweeners" and not everyone plays a 3-4.

look at what DA has done this second half of the season, numerous incompletions throwing high over the middle to get our recievers killed. I think even frye would have won 8 games here.

To use the argument that some have used for keeping DA.. if we had done that, who would be our back-up right now? and would you trust him?

I think we could too... any NT we try to get is likely going to be more of a project at that level...
So let me ask you Vers, all kidding and shenanigans aside... what would it take for you to think trading DA was a good move this off-season?

I don't know. I don't get to watch them practice every day. I haven't seen enough of BQ at the pro level to know if he will be great, good, average, poor, or a bust.
I know I wouldn't trade a productive QB until I was pretty damn certain that I had a replacement for him. I think Savage has brought some good talent in here and I also think RAC has done a good job evaluating them. I just have to trust their judgment on this one. My hope is that don't make a move based on the fact that they spent so much to acquire BQ. If he gets the job........I hope he truly earns it.
Oh.........one more thing..........I pray that the fan-base, led by the likes of Ammo, don't have any influence on their decision. *L*

And Pittsburgh averaged 190 yards/game passing for the season. BFD. If I take the middle of Peyton Manning's year, he threw 11 Tds and 11 INTs in October and November. He sucks. Indy better get ready for the Jim Sorgi era. Tom Brady started the year on fire .... but did you know that he threw 1/2 of his picks in December? Also, after averaging over 3 TD passes per game in September and November, and a gaudy 4 in October, he came crashing back to Earth with only 2.2 per game in December. Clearly he's on the decline ... and New England better wake up before it's too late. Romo was up and down this year. He had 2 months where he actually threw more INTs than TDs. Better ditch him too, I think that it remains to be seen what will happen in a fair training camp competition. I also think that it remains to be seen what will/will not happen if/when Quinn gets his shot.

I know I wouldn't trade a productive QB until I was pretty damn certain that I had a replacement for him.
Anderson seems like a 50/50 QB to me...and I think almost any QB could do that. BQ did it yesterday for a few plays.

A few plays is not anything to base any kind of judgement on.
Just a side note, did anyone hear the fans booing DA when he came back in in the 3rd quarter----that was so classless and idiotic. Some people are moronic. Booing the guy that helped make your season a success and solidified the QB position for the time being is just plain stupid.

So let me ask you Vers, all kidding and shenanigans aside... what would it take for you to think trading DA was a good move this off-season?
I know you didn't ask me this question but if you have no objection, I'd like to answer it for you.,.,
The only thing that would make me willing to trade DA away is the knowledge that I have his replacement in house and that the replacement is better... Otherwise, why would any GM make that move... it would be pretty darn stupid I would think.... JMO
I'm guessing, but I bet the Browns feel as if Quinn can do that job just fine.. and if that's the case, I would bet you that DA is gone.... Just a thought.

Sure it is. I can tell that BQ will be at least as crappy as DA is. Look, you guys are still acting like DA is the best QB the Browns have ever had...and he's NOT. I can't wait until he's gone just so this bickering is overwith.

His quarterbacking has led to numerous team milestones being reached. Whether you like it or not, he's going to stick around awhile.

Sorry, I don't believe it was all due to him. If you do, that's fine. And, he can stick around, that's fine. As I've said all along, if he wins the starting job in camp, then so be it. I just don't think that will happen.

Michelle, let me ask you a question.
Would you agree that, over the years, the Browns have had some good teams, and some bad teams ....... and some really bad teams ....... and some really outstanding teams?
If we look at all of those previous Browns teams ...... the good, bad, and ugly ..... exactly 1 QB, exactly 1 time, had more TD passes than DA did this year.
If "any QB" could do what DA did this year ... given that we have had some really, really good teams (or maybe even more talented) in the past ..... why haven't they?
I understand that he has some weaknesses, and some areas to be improved upon ... but man I just don't get the whole "anyone could do it" mentality.
Oh ... and a lot of QBs can do some things for a "few plays". Even our former favorite Kelly Holcomb looked pretty damn good for a "few plays".

Yes to the others, but outstanding? No, I've never seen an outstanding Browns team personally.

There could be a million variables to this....do you really want me to list them all? Flat out, this is one of the best O-lines I've seen around here in, well, 20+ years. I'm guessing that has something to do with it. Maybe the receivers? It's called TEAM and I'm seeing it for the first time since the mid 80's. I think *most* of our past QBs could look like DA given the other players are the same. (And that's a GOOD thing, not bad.)
I'm not sold on Anderson...I don't get why that's a big deal to some of you. It seems like if you don't believe he's our guy around here you are stupid. The only thing that will tell us who is who is TIME. And sometimes, even then, time doesn't mean jack.
There is no cut and dry answer to this issue...but it sure seems like you guys think there is.
