Was he any good? I assume just having to ask that means the answer is no.
I have no problem with Berry taking low-risk gambles like this. If the guy comes in and still doesn't have his head screwed on straight (most likely) then we let him go and aren't any worse for wear. He's been injured a lot. Bit of an attitude problem. Small issues off the field. I agree with the second part most of the time. I think it can be more complicated if you don't take into account how it may affect the rest of the room. If you're starving for talent or want to weed out the mediocre -- by all means. If you're just rolling the dice for upside and you already have a solid room, why add a wild card in the mix? Just my .02

Actually could get on board. Not so much for WR, but start him primarily as a returner on the cheap and see if you can get his head right. Has the physical talent.

Just my .02 I think we just got rid of Bell and have an open roster spot, and we are in WAY better shape, in terms of the culture in the locker room, to handle stuff like this than even just 5 years ago. I also think that our WR room needs at least 2 guys to have a breakout season before we can ignore potential upgrades like this. We are 1 Amari Cooper injury away from the WR group being a liability, as pretty much everyone else besides Njoku is an unknown. That said, per your last post, I don't expect this to go anywhere.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Interesting, sounds like they were totally estranged. Said he’d only met him 5 times. Sad non the less and death of close relatives can have unexpected effects, even ones we’re not particularly close to. Im sure it’s in his head. Hope he’s ok.

It can't be easy to process the death of your father and at the same time focusing on the first game of the season.
Sad memories to go thru that I don't wish anyone as such a young age. Hopefully he can find peace and some harmony inside his heart so he isn't too mentally exhausted when the game starts. Maybe a good start of the season will help him forward to better days.

we will only have 2 TEs tomorrow

I'd rather use an OL as an extra blocker over a TE anyways. Give me the Hudson/Harris full speed at the snap motion plays.
Additionally, spreading out the defense is one way to try to mitigate pass rush. More chances for a quick option to get open.
Also looks like David Bell made it to the practice squad.

The biggest issues I know of with Toney as it pertains to on the field of play are his drops combined with injuries. His hands are very suspect and that's putting it mildly. He can make the highlight reel when he catches the ball but the most needed ingredients in a WR IMO is the ability to catch the ball and being available to play. Their GM also reported that he had shown up to training camp out of shape and I think that was the final straw for them. I think those are the biggest reasons KC parted ways with him...... Kadarius Toney was cut from Chiefs. KC’s GM hinted at significant reason for that Read more at: https://www.kansascity.com/sports/nfl/kansas-city-chiefs/article291664020.html#storylink=cpy

Seeing what the Texans have done with what we gifted them for an underwhelming, underperforming, inadequate QB. Ugh. Is the Deshaun Watson trade and contract the worst in NFL history? I'm not in favor of looking at how other teams performed with the draft capital in order to evaluate the trade. Houston might hit home runs with every pick and Watson could have simply been "good" to "very good" and we would have been happy (I would have been happy) .... but neither do I believe you can downplay the significance of the draft capital we gave up because in the past CLE has missed on draft picks. MG, Chubb, Ward, Newsome, JOK .... all top telent on this roster - all draft picks. Some people think Njoku is a stud, another drafted player. I'm hoping for a transformative performance from DW over the next 3 games. If we get more of what we saw this weekend and more of what we saw in most of his games - between the contract and draft capital it could easily be argued to be one of the worst trades in NFL history.

The Texans have done it the right way since the trade and have really built their team.
Watson is busted. He's either too injured, lost too much confidence, too apathetic ... whatever it is, he's not even 5% of what we traded for

This is brutal to read... hopefully week 1 over reactions by the media as well as the fans. https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/nfl-week-1-what-we-learned-all-13-games-sundayBrowns: Can we please get these guys another quarterback? Deshaun Watson was 24 of 45 for 169 yards at 3.8 yards per attempt. He had one touchdown and two interceptions and took six sacks. For so many reasons, it's time for the Browns to move on from Deshaun Watson. (They can't actually let him go. Cutting him would incur a $92 million cap hit with $120 million in dead money.) They can simply make him inactive every week. And that's only fair for Cleveland because it was the idiotic organization to give him all that money. The Browns might as well wear a scarlet letter every week on their inactives list. In the meantime, they should start Jameis Winston and trade for Mac Jones. Heck, bring back Joe Flacco. Just, please, jettison Watson into the football ether. This defense is too good to waste. Buccaneers: If there was uncertainty about whether the Bucs offense could be the same with a new coordinator in Liam Coen, Baker Mayfield and company answered that emphatically on Sunday. Mayfield threw for 289 yards and four touchdowns — two to Mike Evans — and was exceptional on third downs, helping the Bucs go 9-for-13 for one of the best conversion rates in their history. Coen, taking over after Dave Canales left to become Carolina's head coach, had a solid mix of runs and passes — Tampa Bay didn't score 30 or more in a game until Week 9 last season, but did in their first game with him calling plays. Mayfield's passer rating of 146.4 is the second-best ever against Washington for a quarterback with at least 30 pass attempts — the only one better came from the Giants' Y.A. Tittle in 1962, long before the Bucs existed as a franchise.— Auman I'm sure many of the Baker haters are not going to want to hear about it - but it's 100% legitimate to examine the trade as well as the guy we moved on from to make the trade. And I guess while we are at it -- when we consider Stefanski and his success, we should remember the Browns #1 defense last year .... and while so many KS fanboys wanted to say he had nothing to do with with the Woods disaster at D - he clearly then has nothing to do with the Schwartz success on D. . . . . and something I didn't realize until reading something at the weekend, while KS got kudos for what he did with DW, Flaco and PJ Walker and DTR last year - how about a moment to consider Tomlin who actually went to the playoffs and started Rudolph, Pickett and Trubisky last year. I guess I am still reeling from yesterday and venting.
The more things change the more they stay the same.

Don’t reel. Don’t get excited. Watch the Browns through an apathetic lense. Expect losing.
And before you say you can’t do that, I said that at one point too. But last night I slept like a baby.
It is what it is.
In the grand scheme of things whether the Browns win or lose is no big deal.

My dad gave me some good advice yesterday as we watched the team plummet:
do we really think this team is beating KC, Baltimore, Houston, San Francisco in consecutive weeks? The answer is no - so who cares anyways

I slept fine also. AS browns fans we should be used to all the failures and nonsense. Expect the worse and hope for the best has been my motto. I'd give Watson some more time but if his current play continues I would bench him for JW. The team seems to like him. JMO

In the grand scheme of things whether the Browns win or lose is no big deal. I slept well too. Apathy decribes me to a tee. With about 5 minutes to go in the 1st half, I just walked away. I fired up the Blackstone and cooked my wife and I a nice breakfast supper. I took my time, did the eggs, bacon and hash browns individually while enjoying the beautiful weather. I finished up near the end of the 3rd quarter. We spent more time talking than paying attention to the game while we ate, occasionally chuckling at the ineptness on the screen. Later, we watched the Lions show us what a real football team looks like.

I slept fine also. But if I was apathetic I wouldn't come to an online football forum for the team I'm allegedly apathetic about. Just me. I want the team to be better, expect better and will watch the games wanting them to win.

It’s like a bad habit or a nervous tic that’s hard to break. It’s also an unhealthy of hobby of sorts.
I wouldn’t agree that there’s a correlation of participation and level of apathy.
I’m embarrassed to say that as a middle aged adult my mood and week were totally impacted by the results of the games. I’ve outgrown that.
In a lot of ways it’s somewhat sad what the team has done to its fanbase.

I'll admit that I was angry with our team and coaches last night. I felt like we were sorely outplayed, out coached, out efforted, everything ... that was embarrassing

Kadarius Toney struggled with Patrick Mahomes. I’m sure Deshaun Watson will be the answer.

Our only viable TE goes down with an injury and we immediatley sign a disgruntled WR...if I read that we did this move for PR/KR I'll lose my mind...we have like 8 guys who can do that between the 53 & PS.
Seems like every year AB roles the dice at a position and it bites him right in the rear.

Seems like every year AB roles the dice at a position and it bites him right in the rear. I wish more people understood this. We are not good at player acquisition/management. We love us some DBs yet end up with guys like Thornhill. We like collecting projects thinking we can turn them around.. I can't think of one player thats gotten better coming here. Like if Toney couldn't be productive with Mahommes and Reid, like Stefanski is the answer...not likely. This is like a linebacker going down so we sign another long snapper
Tomorrow is the most important thing in life. Comes into us at midnight very clean. It's perfect when it arrives and it puts itself in our hands. It hopes we've learned something from yesterday. -John Wayne

We need to come up with at least 2 TEs by Sunday
Having no depth at TE/OT has killed us in the pass pro department

Browns Worked Out QB Chris Oladokun By Wyatt Grindley - September 10, 2024 According to Aaron Wilson, the Browns worked out QB Chris Oladokun along with several tight ends on Tuesday.
Chris Oladokun The Titans worked out Oladokun last week but did not sign him to a contract.
Oladokun, 26, was a seventh-round pick to the Steelers back in 2022. He was waived at the end of training camp in 2022 and was brought back to Pittsburgh right after on the practice squad.
In February of 2023, the Chiefs signed Oladokun off the Steelers’ practice squad. Kansas City brought him back on a future contract before releasing him at the end of camp.
From there, Oladokun was on and off of the Chiefs’ roster. Kansas City opted to waive Oladokun coming out of the preseason.

The Cleveland Browns cannot stay out of the headlines this week, this time for a minor roster move. The team has added linebacker Khaleke Hudson to their active roster (according to NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo).
Hudson, a fifth round pick of the Washington Commanders in 2020, was most recently a member of the New Orleans Saints’ practice squad. He was elevated for New Orleans’ Week 1 game and played special teams for them. Hudson has 12 career starts to his name, including eight in 2023 with the Commanders.
Now, the question remains where that roster spot is coming from. The Browns had multiple players who left the game on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys with an injury. Two linebackers in second-year player Mohamoud Diabate and Tony Fields II were among them.
Could we see Diabate land on Injured Reserve to clear the roster spot for Hudson? The Browns will announce a subsequent move soon to make room to add Hudson to their active roster.

the TE market is barren. We are stuck for a month or two without Njoku ... and by that point our season could be gone

Also, just saw that we are not getting the draft pick for the Cade York trade. They cut him after he went 0-2 against Tampa Bay.
He needed to stick around for 2 games. Didn't make it
