"First down inside the 10. A score here will put us in the Super Bowl. Cooper is far to the left as Njoku settles into the slot. Moore is flanked out wide to the right. Chubb and Ford are split in the backfield as Watson takes the snap ... Here we go."
It's been a fun season to watch. The team has been playing great all year, they've weathered some slumps, which will happen. They've been very resilient.
They have some good-great talent in the minors too. I was excited to see Noel (and a few others) to get his call up. I was surprised to see Angel Martinez get called up this year. He's had a couple good/great seasons the past couple years, so it was warranted. I was more or less just surprised b/c he's still very young (22). There are a few others I would love to see called up, however there just isn't any room for them on the big league roster....and that is a good thing.
The last few days, I have seen Straw has been popping up on my feed for hitting well the past couple weeks. I was thinking, I really hope they don't call him up. I look today and he's been recalled to the team. I would've rather they recalled JRod back up for his power. He's been hitting the ball well too down in Columbus. I am assuming they wanted more speed/defense/outfield versatility/veteran with limited ABs.

I believe that our magic number is now 4? (for the division) We won, and KC and Minni both lost. I think that should be right.
I also agree that the Tigers just might catch the Twins for that final spot.

Manzardo hitting in 2-hole today, with Angel leading off. 2 rookies, late in the season, pretty impressive for them. Future is really bright for the Guardians.
Lake County winning a championship last night, 3 top 100 prospects on that team.

I don't even think I can argue with the announcer... "the greatest day in baseball history". Because Shohei just had that, I mean, I don't know how any day could be greater. And btw, of the two doubles, one was a close throw out at third, a "game of inches" prevented him also hitting for the cycle today. Absolutely unreal.

Tha man went 6-6 with 3 HR, 2 doubles, 10 RBI, 2 SB aaaand became the founding member of the 50/50 club (with both "50s" coming in the same game).
I remember that well. It was looking shaky at the end of August but he "let 'er rip" in September.
Did You Know??
Bobby Bonds should have been the first 40/40 player, way back in 1973, but an improbable September slump prevented the honor. He hit his 38th home run of the season on September 9, 1973, but came up one home run shy of becoming the founding member of the club after hitting just one home run in the Giants' final 21 games. Earlier in the season he hit two home runs against the Braves on May 23. That game ended in a rain-out, which washed away the two home runs. He finished the season 39 and 43.

Sweet liberty!
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.

Absolutely insane performance. Never seen anything like it. 17 total bases is cartoonish.
Nice win by the Guards ....... KC also loses ..... magic number for the division at .... 1?

The Cincinnati Reds on Sunday night announced that they have fired manager David Bell. Bell, who was in his sixth season as Reds manager, had been under contract through the 2026 season. Bench coach Freddie Benavides will serve as the club's interim manager for the final five games of this season.
"David provided the kind of steadiness that we needed in our clubhouse over the last few seasons," Reds president of baseball operations Nick Krall said in a statement. "We felt a change was needed to move the major-league team forward. We have not achieved the success we expected, and we need to begin focusing on 2025."
The Reds this season are 76-81 and in fourth place in the National League Central. In what turned out to be Bell's final game in the Cincinnati dugout, the Reds on Sunday fell to the Pirates 2-0. The 52-year-old Bell as Reds manager went 409-456 (.473). He guided them to the postseason during the abbreviated 2020 season, but an organizational pivot to non-contention yielded a 62-100 season in 2022. The Reds made impressive progress in 2023 under Bell, as they notched a winning season. However, the forward momentum was not sustained in 2024, which ultimately cost Bell his post. Bell had been the 62nd manager in Reds franchise history. His 409 wins rank eighth among Reds managers, and his 456 losses rank fourth.
Bell becomes the third manager fired during the 2024 season. He was preceded by Pedro Grifol of the White Sox and Scott Servais of the Mariners. Both were terminated in August.
As for the 58-year-old Benavides, he was originally drafted by the Reds as an infielder in 1987 and spent the first two years of big-league career in Cincinnati. He had served as Bell's bench coach since 2019.

I saw where they are on sale to the general public starting Tuesday at 10A.M.
I might try to get some if they advance a bit further in to the playoffs. Maybe get lucky and get some that go on sale, if not I will look in to the secondary market.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
