I drive most of my early cars as fast as I could get them to go. My Ford Escort topped out around 92mph on the long country road I grew up on. Speeding is a meh-burger to me. It’s stupid youthful stuff that most of us do/did. Not showing up to court… not smart.
Ok... I think I may have to take back what I posted earlier.
There is no level of sucking we haven't seen; in fact, I'm pretty sure we hold the patents on a few levels of sucking NOBODY had seen until the past few years.
I didn’t want Sanders because I didn’t want drama and distraction and I didn’t think his talent level offset those concern enough. This does not bode well for his judgement and impulse control capacities.

I have enough common sense to know doing 100 plus miles per hour Is reckless and unwarranted unless you are in a life and death race against time situation. What was he trying to accomplish? It's not about acting like I'm perfect and never made a mistake in my life. But I've never made a decision that could possible injure or kill another Person who is entitled to life just as I am . But you keep on making excuses for him.
Dude is going to get himself cut. We’ve had too many immature, idiotic QBs make their way through our rank that we know all too well. Someone might take care to remind him he’s a fifth round pick on a roster with 4 QBs.

I know this is way out there, but could it be possible he wants the Browns to cut him so he can try to negotiate with other teams? I can;t think of any other reason. He can't be that bad at PR, with his dad's experience with the media, to not know these will only hurt his career possibilities.
Once can be a mistake. But not showing up to court and then speeding again shows incredibly poor judgement.
While that may be a very remote possibility I think it may be more indicative of what was seen as red flags in his interviews. I certainly have no information of what transpired in those interviews but there certainly has to be some pretty concrete reasoning why every NFL team passed on him four times. I do think to an extent that his talent was overrated by some of the self appointed "draft gurus" but not to the extent he would drop that far.
That's why I think nobody was willing to gamble on him until round 5 which by a great percentage draft picks never make it in the NFL anyway. At that point you aren't gambling very much by throwing a hail Mary. I mean by the time you reach round five you're pretty much at the "Why the hell not take a flier on the kid?" portion of the draft.
That's simply a guess on my part but the math adds up.
It's not like he shot anyone but the future will tell us whether these are simply isolated incidents or a continuing pattern. The early results aren't looking positive.
Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.
That's hard to tell by looking at it. It might also be when someone tries to make some big deal about a fifth round draft pick. A point in the draft where a very low percentage of those picks ever produces a productive NFL player anyway. You know, the part of the draft where you're at the "Why not take a flier on the kid?" stage and throwing a hail Mary on a kid with some talent but also where there may be some question marks really doesn't matter. When someone tries to make some big production over something like that common sense becomes a question.
And don't get me wrong. I wasn't happy about the pick either. I didn't want the Deion circus coming to town either. But when at the very least a rather talented QB falls to the fifth round I understand the pick. It's not that difficult to understand.

The math does add up. I don't think Sanders was rejected by every team because he doesn't have the talent. Teams might be able to write him off as a 1st rounder, but he has the talent to be a 2nd or 3rd round pick.
There was a reason why he lasted until the 5th round and it wasn't a talent issue. Teams just didn't want any part of him.
I usually stick of for Haslam, but I do feel this was his pick. I don't think Berry or Stefanski wanted any part of Sanders.
I think the Gabriel pick was a Stefanski pick all the way and he is going to dig in his heels and not play Sanders, even to the point it could cost him his job.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.
I suspect he is Haslam's pick. I still want no part of this sideshow. Ski and Berry didn't look like they embraced it even as they grudgingly accepted it. I don't believe that you end up in the fifth without some compelling reasons. Maybe hallam just needs to have a QB controversy every year.
The unanswered question I am still considering: If the Browns hadn't made this pick and salvaged some of the wasted media hype, how far would he have fallen further? Might he have not been drafted for the NFL at all? The bench might be plausible, but I think the same dumb "We gotta see what we've got!" will get trotted out again. The job loss seems a bit of a reach, but if Haslam forced this pick, then getting him on the field after getting him on the roster isn't out of the question. Bundle him with Watson in a trade for anything that helps us.

At the end of the day, his value is going to be no different than pretty much any other late-round QB. Bring him in and give him some coaching and see if you can flip him for a higher pick in a year or two.

We agree on everything 100% with the exception of this. Stefanski, his coaching staff and this entire FO need to win and need to win now. I'm not sure any reasonable fan expects much of that until they actually have a shot to draft a franchise QB next year though. I don't think it would make any sense whatsoever for him to sit the QB that gives him the best chance to win unless it's very late in the season and there's nothing left to win but a high draft pick.
It would be nice to think that sitting him might help avoid what I call "the Deion circus" but I think sitting Shedeur might create more of a circus from Deion than playing him. And of course all of the Shedeurettes. I can never recall seeing this much hype surrounding a fifth round draft pick.

Reminder that we are still in silly season (I’m talking to myself as much as anyone else).
Appearance apparently wasn’t mandatory. Still time to pay the fine.

That seems quite odd. I've never seen something like that. It's always been that you have until your court date to pay the fine or appear in court. That's your choice. Not refuse to pay the fine by the court date and not show up in court. But hey, it's been over 20 years since I had a ticket so who knows.
I think I'm going to have to see something a little more than a Twitter feed to buy into that.

I see it all the time in my line of work. Some people just can't color inside the lines. Most people I know with real means just call a lawyer and have them plead it down as hard as they can, which happens all the time. Then they write a check.
Sanders is just a 5th rounder. When was the last time you saw a 5th rounder cause this kind of media distraction. Most of them are lucky to make it to the practice squad.

Less we forget, we have a thing for delinquent 5th round players… Jeremiah Pharms a former professional football fullback/linebacker was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the fifth round of the 2001 NFL draft with the 134th overall pick. However, he never signed with the team. In May 2004, the Browns released his draft rights after Pharms was arrested for a robbery that occurred 14 months earlier.
My guess is that 6/23 date his when he either has to pay for or scheduled to appear for the second ticket and is in no way related to the first ticket.

I totally forgot that one.
The fifth round is a decent enough spot to take a chance on raw talent with a little higher level of risk on the personal side. I support drafting Sanders in 5. The way I see it now he is most likely as safe as anything if, and hopefully when, we park him on the practice squad. Maybe he turns into something great, maybe not. No way should the Browns just toss him aside but I don't see him as QB1 material in the post-Watson era quite yet. The PR firms will literally melt down with fear and loathing if he is sent to PS but I'd be shocked if anyone would claim him at this point. Two serious traffic violations and a failure to appear on one of them does not inspire confidence when considering investing millions and more years into him.

The Browns can't afford to be taking flyers on guys in the 5th RD. It's a bottom 5 roster talent wise in the NFL . Teams like the Chiefs and Eagles and Ravens Can afford to take project players in RD 5. The Browns need all the contributors year 1 they can get

I understand your point except it will take more than a few games to determine if one of the QBs is enough to move forward with in to the future. I don't think stefanski can try to split time, so if Gabe is his guy, he will give him the opportunity.
Also, I am not so sure that stefanski is under all that much pressure this year. Berry maybe. I don't think Stefanski has to win x amount of games....sure, he can't win 1-2 games. That could get him ousted.
If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

Everyone in the fifth round is a flyer. Just look at the success rate of fifth round draft picks. Once again, a mole hill isn't as mountain no matter how much you hype it.

I agree with you. Trade downs aren't usually in the cards for FOs on the hot seat.
I'd argue that even Berry would have to have a really bad year (guys from a couple drafts really underperforming) in order to get the axe.

Pretty much what I was thinking, if you need to expect your 5th round picks to excel, you would be unique in this league. That's like calling a player drafted in that round a bust if they don't start year by year 2. I have seen players called busts drafted late by posters in the past.
I agree that AB and KS aren't on the hot seat this coming year especially if the team is competitive and progress is made. Why? Because Jimmy Haslam stood up and admitted the mistake with DW and let's face it, probably had the final say in the trade and contract. I've stated before I like JH as our owner. He wants to win and has spent huge money to do so. Not many owners would have admitted the mistake that was made. I believe as Browns fans, we are fortunate to have him.

I agree, Oobs. I don't think Berry is under much pressure as well. I just think that if one of the two, Berry faces more scrutiny.
I'll just add that... you never truly know with Haslam. This is the same guy that blew up the Chud FO and then hired his plan W in Pettine. With all the uncertainty on the offensive side of the ball (QB, Oline health/depth, and essentially a rookie RB room) and then the D needing a sorta bounceback year (way too much talent on that side of the ball for the production we're getting), it's well within possibility to have a bad enough year to have Haslam thinking he's gotta do something desperate.

Conversely, since those knee-jerk years he has been very solid with this group. I think perhaps he may have done right when we thought he was being knee-jerk. If you see it isn't working, you change it. Sometimes you just don't need even a full year to know.
I think all of these guys are well enough established that they are fairly safe, barring a catastrophic meltdown. Unless we're heading into this season with tanking for a QB as a backup/secondary plan, then even blowing up badly this season won't hurt them at all.
Heck, we FINALLY have the stability we wished for over the first two decades of coming back, but Battered Dawg Syndrome keeps us wondering when it'll get blown up and start us over again.

Browns is the Browns
... there goes Joe Thomas, the best there ever was in this game.
I like Stefanski and I think the Browns are going to be much improved in 2025. Going back to the zone blocking scheme with an emphasis on running the football will play to the strengths of offensive line. I look for our guards to again have really nice seasons and I like the young running backs they drafted this year. Running the ball better will set up the play action pass and Njoku and Fannon should be formable pair at tight end. I worry this teams lacks some explosiveness in the wide outs with only Jeudy scaring defenses. The improved run game should really benefit the defense. This defense is where this team is talented. Myles Garrett is the best defensive player in the game and Ward is a shutdown corner. Sucks they lost JOK but the top two rookies brought in should really help this team and I look for the secondary to have a bounce back year. The run game will give them more rest and the improvement at Defensive tackle should force more 3rd and longs and that is where Garrett and company can pin their ears back and hopefully the secondary can take the ball away. I think Flacco can QB a team at 40 that runs the ball well and uses play action to push the ball down the field instead of him in shotgun throwing 40+ times a game. I do think Sanders is a fit in this offense if he can keep his head on straight and is the 2nd best QB on the team behind Flacco.
If this team has another 3-14 season I don't think Stefanski or Berry would survive and quite frankly I do not want the same regime picking our next franchise QB that selected Gabriel over Sanders and Howard.

I wish I shared your optimism... BBFS has taught me not to count on rookies filling in for lost starters, and as much as I like the talent we have on our Oline and flipping back to the ZBS, I don't like its reliability, especially at the tackle position. Maybe I just have to read up a little on the vets we brought in during FA.

It's a tall task to ask some rookie RBs and rookie TE to carry a offense. And its a taller task to ask a defense without proven LBers to be dominant. The NFL is driven by offensive firepower. It's a passing league. The Browns offense is going to be so one dimensional this year And very predictable. Don't forget Tommy Rees is a 1st yr OC. He's not coming out of the gate As some established OC guru. There will be growing pains ith his role. I see this offense have big time scoring issues this year The defense has stars in Garrett and Ward but that doesn't equate to being a playoff team.

This is probably at the bottom of my worries about the offense. Rees is going to do the same job as Van Pelt (offensive helper). I'd be absolutely gobsmacked if Rees is anywhere near calling plays at any point this season or next. Actually, I think KS has already said as much. We're going back to the KS/ZBS offense and Rees is simply facilitating that... I'm watching our Oline coach closer than our OC.
