Maybe if the poor got off their behinds and worked, they would not get poorer as you state. Hand outs don't make people rich it just keeps people in a poor dependent state.
Good Grief...
As a child, my family spent a lot of time above and below the poverty line. Unemployment, Food Stamps, welfare, you name it, that can be the life of a construction worker in Ohio. Some years were ok, others were more difficult. When you are a union trade worker, that is your life. Finding other work requires you turn in your union card.
I vowed to myself that that was not the life for me. Grants and loans put me through school. I guess that you would call that a hand out. But there is more to that story as it is likely that I will have a career that will end without a day of unemployment.
But I understand that there are people that do struggle with work, and sometimes it is because there is no work available.
The government has enjoyed a wonderful return on its investment in the form of the taxes that have been paid.
The problem with a lot of people is that they cannot relate to the challenges faced by others. Trump is one of those. Empathy is not in his vocabulary, nor does it appear to be in yours.
