He doesn't seem to care that the very reason we were given for war in Iraq was wrong. He just wants "the bad guys" gone. Nations all around the globe are full of "bad guys." I suppose we should just go to war with them all?

Saddam Hussain is no longer tormenting the middle east so i disagree it was a mistake taking him out. Should have been done years earlier during desert storm. I mean - even your own president disagrees with you. That is the beauty of it. We all do not have to agree on every issue. Same should be for the left and right. Disagreements are normal and should occur in a healthy society. What is not healthy is disagreeing and throwing fits like our left does time and time and time again.

A fit? Do you mean like Jan. 6th? Or do you mean all of the boycotts trump called for in his first term? Or shooting up cases of Bud Light? Or having a meltdown over Cracker Barrel taking Uncle Herschel off of their sign? Or like the unhinged fits trump throws almost every time he addresses the press or the country?

The problem is that is in no way, shape or form what you said............. throwing fits like our left does time and time and time again. I gave you examples that fit within your own description.

The Netherlands plans to deploy 1 soldier to Greenland, while France has deployed 15 and Germany 13.... for a quick 2-day mission.
I think this basically says it all. 1. They felt they had to publicly do *something*. 2. They know that a large deployment would be meaningless and futile 3. They likely don't think it is a possibility, either, but are simply doing it for the public perception of it.
It's all a lot of hand wringing over something that has a near-zero chance of happening.

I think this basically says it all. 1. They felt they had to publicly do *something*. . This is it right here - and it really does say everything. They felt like they had to do something publicly to support an Ally who is being targeted by a fellow NATO ally. All they are doing is saying they support Denmark and Greenland. It doesn't say anything about their ability or willingness to defend Greenland against the USA - it says everything that they (and many other EU leaders) feel obliged to respond to the petulant antics of a want to be imperialist.

Trump Says He May Punish Countries With Tariffs If They Don’t Back The U.S. Controlling Greenland COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — President Donald Trump suggested Friday that he may punish countries with tariffs if they don’t back the U.S. controlling Greenland, a message that came as a Congressional delegation met Danish and Greenlandic lawmakers in Copenhagen and sought to lower tensions. Trump for months has insisted that the U.S. should control Greenland, a semiautonomous territory of NATO ally Denmark, and said earlier this week that anything less than the Arctic island being in U.S. hands would be “unacceptable.” “I may put a tariff on countries if they don’t go along with Greenland,” he said Friday, without providing details. “We need Greenland for national security.” He had not previously mentioned using tariffs to try to force the issue. https://www.huffpost.com/entry/doj-...R_BLxRbiSvSRA_aem_oi26qVtvkudU9vBgEvJ4tAAll nations must bow to the king!

I don't think he is trying to destabilize NATO, either, but I do think he is firmly taking the stance that the U.S. is done with getting told what to do by NATO/U.N. I'm only picking out this part to respond to because I gotta let the rest of your post simmer in my brain a little longer. I thought we were sick of having to do everything/direct everything in NATO. That NATO has to grow a pair and start acting like adults and make decisions without the US having to bless lead all the time? At least that was the story behind us pulling back on Ukraine.

Greenland is not a property deal.
We don't get to take it because trump wants it. What is wrong with him? Russia tries to take over Ukraine and the world objects.
Why is it ok for trump to threaten Greenland with military takeover?

You mean "most of the world objects". Trump claims the war in Ukraine is Ukraine's fault.
Trump stated in February 2025 that Zelenskyy "should have never started" the war, arguing that it was a conflict that should have been avoided.
In April 2025, Trump accused Zelenskyy of starting the war against a country "20 times your size" and then expecting to receive missiles, arguing the war should have been ended sooner through a deal.

Question for those either in favor of the hardline stance Trump is taking on Greenland - and the coercion tactics he looks set to impose with tariffs - or anyone I guess.
1. I don't believe for one second Greenland is under any threat from Russia or China - none - BUT, assuming you buy into the idea that it is under threat OR you simply think the USA should take whatever it wants in self interest (like like Imperialism and all those Empires throughout history) .... is the world and the USA a safer place: A - With Greenland secured for the US but with NATO finished and Europe no longer an Ally. Which is where things would end up. B - With Greenland left as it is - USA beefs up military presence if it wishes through agreement with Denmark - and NATO in tact.
2. If the USA managed to coerce / negotiate hardball and secure Greenland. Who would be happy? A - The USA and ??? B - Russia? Definitely. There would be a wedge between the USA and western EU. C - China? They would have a green light for Taiwan which - unlike Greenland and the USA - China has ALWAYS claimed Tainan was theirs. D - Anyone else?
I can only speak for myself - But if I was the EU I would play hard ball and reciprocate. Start a trade war - suffer the consequences. You can't capitulate to a Bully and a petulant child like Trump. . . . It surely hasn't escaped anyone's attention the people who have met Trump's bully tactics with equal and opposite force - China, Canada and Newsome. Has anyone heard Trump mouth off about any of those three in a provocative way recently?

I agree with your take on this. It's a waste of time and effort to try to take over Greenland.. We don't need to do it at all...
We are a NATO nation.. If China or Russia tried to take over Greenland it's NATO's problem and we are supposed to protect them.... Under any other POTUS, that would be what happens.. Under Trump, who knows....
Bonefish had a good point above,, Trump thinks this is nothing more than a Real Estate Transaction.. It is not.
By the way, I'm all for including Ukraine in NATO... That is something for sure that Putin would not like...

It's because it has nothing to do with security, and everything to do with mining rights.
Trump wants to sell the mining contracts for Greenland.

It's not just s threat anymore. He is fully implementing his extortion.................... Trump says he'll hit Denmark and 7 other countries with new tariffs until there's a deal to buy Greenland Trump said the 10% duties on eight European countries would increase to 25% on June 1 unless a deal is reached. President Donald Trump said Saturday that he would impose a new 10% tariff on Denmark and seven other European countries until “a Deal is reached for the Complete and Total purchase of Greenland.” The other countries affected would be Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, the Netherlands and Finland. Trump said the duties would increase to 25% if a deal is not reached by June 1. “China and Russia want Greenland, and there is not a thing that Denmark can do about it,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “Only the United States of America, under PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP, can play in this game, and very successfully, at that!” he added. Trump also pointed to joint security exercises around Greenland between Denmark and other European allies, calling them a “very dangerous situation for the Safety, Security, and Survival of our Planet.” “Therefore, it is imperative that, in order to protect Global Peace and Security, strong measures be taken so that this potentially perilous situation end quickly, and without question,” Trump wrote. Leaders from Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the United Kingdom warned in a joint statement Sunday that the tariff threats "undermine transatlantic relations and risk a dangerous downward spiral," adding: "We will continue to stand united and coordinated in our response. We are committed to upholding our sovereignty." They also said the joint exercises in Greenland "poses no threat to anyone," adding: "As members of NATO, we are committed to strengthening Arctic security as a shared transatlantic interest." Trump’s announcement was the latest step in a sharp escalation in tensions between the U.S. and some of its closest allies in Europe. Any direct confrontation would threaten to undo 70 years of security and stability in the Atlantic under the NATO alliance. Already, the U.S. has a trade framework agreement with the European Union capping tariffs at 15% and an agreement with the United Kingdom capping tariffs on imports at 10%. It was not immediately clear if the new tariffs would void that deal or be in addition to those rates. The E.U. is America’s largest trading partner and its largest source of imports. “The EU stands in full solidarity with Denmark and the people of Greenland,” said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President António Costa in a joint statement. he new tariffs “would undermine transatlantic relations and risk a dangerous downward spiral,” they added. “Europe will remain united, coordinated, and committed to upholding its sovereignty.” "The European Union will always be very firm in defending international law, wherever it may be, and of course, starting within the territory of the European Union's member states," Costa said in a press conference on Saturday about a separate trade deal signing. The chairman of the European Parliament’s international trade committee, Bernd Lange, called the new tariffs “unbelievable.” Lange said he would be calling for the European Parliament to suspend work on implementing the U.S.-E.U. trade deal “until U.S. ends its threats.” He also said the E.U.’s so-called “trade bazooka,” formally called the Anti-Coercion Instrument,”must now be used.” Manfred Weber, the leader of the largest party in the European Parliament said that "given Donald Trump's threats regarding Greenland," approval of the E.U.'s trade deal with the U.S. "must be put on hold." “Applying tariffs on allies for pursuing the collective security of NATO allies is completely wrong,” U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in a statement. “We will of course be pursuing this directly with the U.S. administration.” Denmark said it was surprised by Trump's announcement. "We agree with the US that we need to do more since the Arctic is no longer a low tension area," the Danish foreign ministry said in an email. "That’s exactly why we and NATO partners are stepping up in full transparency with our American allies." "We are in close contact with the European Commission and our other partners on the issue," it added. "We will not allow ourselves to be blackmailed," said Sweden’s prime minister Ulf Kristersson in a statement. "Only Denmark and Greenland decide on issues concerning Denmark and Greenland." Germany’s foreign ministry said in a statement that it was working with other E.U. member states on coordinated response. French president Emmanuel Macron said "no intimidation nor threat will influence us," adding that "tariff threats are unacceptable." Macron said he too would consult European partners on a response. Last week, European troops began arriving in Greenland in a show of support for the island territory, which is part of Denmark. On Wednesday, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said his nation, at the request of Denmark, had sent military officers to Greenland to help plan the Danish-allied joint security exercise “Operation Arctic Endurance.” Danish Foreign Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen told reporters Friday after meeting with U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio that “it’s clear that the president has this wish of conquering over Greenland.” Rasmussen said he told the Trump administration that “this is not in the interest of the kingdom.” The new tariffs would come as the Trump administration battles widespread cost-of-living issues facing consumers in the U.S. In November, the administration walked back some food tariffs. The president has also called for a 10% cap on credit card interest rates and has ordered government-controlled entities to buy $200 billion in mortgage bonds to drive down mortgage rates. Increasing tariffs on European countries could lead to higher prices on everything from pharmaceuticals to aircraft parts. Germany, one of the countries named by Trump on Saturday, is a large source of industrial and pharmaceutical imports to the U.S. “President Trump is completely wrong to announce tariffs on the UK over Greenland,” Kemi Badenoch, leader of the U.K.’s Conservative Party, said on social media. “People in both UK and US will face higher costs.” The U.K. has sent just one military officer to Greenland as of Saturday, Sky News reported. Sen. Tom Cotton, R-Ark., responded to the president’s announcement on Fox News, saying that Trump “is right that Greenland is vital for the national security interests of the United States.” Cotton added “the best decision probably would be to acquire Greenland from Denmark.” "These tariffs are unnecessary, punitive, and a profound mistake," Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, said in a social media post. "This response to our own allies for sending a small number of troops to Greenland for training is bad for America, bad for American businesses, and bad for America's allies," Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., said on X. "Continuing down this path is bad for America, bad for American businesses and bad for America’s allies," Sens. Jeanne Shaneen, D-N.H., and Tillis added in a bipartisan statement. "This kind of rhetoric also further helps adversaries like Putin and Xi who want to see NATO divided." "Our allies deserve better, and so do the American people who have made their opposition to this flawed policy resoundingly clear," the two senators continued. "At a time when many Americans are already concerned about the cost of living, these tariffs would raise prices for both families and businesses." It was not immediately clear under what authority the new tariffs would be applied. Currently, tariffs on the U.K. and E.U. have been applied using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act. The Supreme Court is set to rule any day on whether that law grants Trump the authority to impose his country-specific “reciprocal” tariffs. https://www.nbcnews.com/business/economy/trump-denmark-european-tariffs-greenland-deal-rcna254551King trump has spoken! Starmer joins European allies warning of 'dangerous downward spiral' in Nato after Trump's 'gangster' threat of trade war unless he gets Greenland By JAMES TAPSFIELD, UK POLITICAL EDITOR Published: 08:34 EST, 18 January 2026 | Updated: 08:50 EST, 18 January 2026 e-mail 2.3k View comments Keir Starmer joined European allies warning of a 'dangerous downward spiral' in Nato today after Donald Trump threatened a trade war over Greenland. A joint statement from Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden and the UK said they stood 'firmly behind' the 'principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity'. The president has shocked the military alliance by warning that opponents of an American takeover of the Danish territory will be hit with punitive tariffs from February 1. In a bombshell post on his social media site, Mr Trump said levies will start at 10 per cent - and potentially rise to 25 per cent if they have not capitulated by June. But in a joint response this afternoon, the European powers said: 'As members of Nato, we are committed to strengthening Arctic security as a shared transatlantic interest. The pre-coordinated Danish exercise Arctic Endurance conducted with Allies, responds to this necessity. It poses no threat to anyone. 'We stand in full solidarity with the Kingdom of Denmark and the people of Greenland. Building on the process begun last week, we stand ready to engage in a dialogue based on the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity that we stand firmly behind. 'Tariff threats undermine transatlantic relations and risk a dangerous downward spiral. We will continue to stand united and coordinated in our response. We are committed to upholding our sovereignty.' Mr Trump's intervention has sparked fresh fears he is intent on ripping apart the Western pact that has maintained world peace for the past eight decades. MPs also joined the backlash, with calls for the mooted trip by King Charles to Washington in the Spring to be cancelled. 'The civilised world can deal with Trump no longer. He is a gangster pirate,' senior Tory Simon Hoare said. Running the gauntlet of broadcast studios for the government this morning, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy stressed that support for Greenland's sovereignty was 'non-negotiable'. 'We believe it is wrong, we believe it is deeply unhelpful,' she told the BBC's Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg of Mr Trump's tariff threat. But pressed on the issue of the state visit she merely referred to the 'depth' of the Transatlantic relationship. Senior MEPs have warned that the EU-US trade deal will be frozen in reprisals, with the spectre of a full-blown global trade war again looming. Sir Keir delivered some of his strongest criticism of Mr Trump last night, having expended huge effort trying to maintain warm ties with the president. The PM said: 'Our position on Greenland is very clear – it is part of the Kingdom of Denmark and its future is a matter for the Greenlanders and the Danes. 'We have also made clear that Arctic security matters for the whole of Nato, and allies should all do more together to address the threat from Russia across different parts of the Arctic. 'Applying tariffs on allies for pursuing the collective security of Nato allies is completely wrong. We will, of course, be pursuing this directly with the US administration.' Emmanuel Macron also reacted furiously to the news, promising consultation with EU leaders. The French president said: 'No intimidation nor threat will influence us, neither in Ukraine, nor in Greenland, nor anywhere else in the world when we are confronted with such situations. 'Tariff threats are unacceptable and have no place in this context. Europeans will respond to them in a united and co-ordinated manner if they were to be confirmed. We know how to uphold European sovereignty.' Nigel Farage gave a more limited rebuke to the US president, posting on X: 'We don't always agree with the US government and in this case we certainly don't. These tariffs will hurt us.' The Reform leader had been due to appear on the airwaves this morning but was replaced by Richard Tice after being struck down with a heavy cold. Mr Tice told the BBC that Mr Trump was worried about China getting a foothold in the Arctic. 'He's correct in that, but the approach in the way you work with your closest allies... is completely wrong,' he said. He added: 'On this the president has got it wrong.' Former foreign secretary Jeremy Hunt said he did not believe Mr Trump would follow through on invading Greenland. 'To invade the sovereign territory of a Nato ally would mean the end of Nato... it would dissolve that alliance overnight,' he told the BBC. However, Mr Hunt acknowledged that it would be 'squeaky bum time' to see whether Europe could hold out. Tory peer Lord Hannan said: 'This is demented. Outright batsh** crazy. Where are the adults in the room? Why will no one rein him in?' John Bolton, Mr Trump's former national security adviser, said: 'Donald Trump's extraordinary tariff threat against the UK and other countries for things they have said or done regarding Greenland is without doubt his most dangerous and destructive assertion during the five years of his presidency. 'To say it is without precedent radically understates how foolish and contrary to fundamental American interests it is. Its ramifications for the special relationship and Nato alliance – indeed for the credibility and trust the United States has spent decades trying to establish – is incalculable.' The UK already pays a 10 per cent tariff on some goods imported by the US, after Mr Trump introduced a wave of taxes on countries around the world on his 'Liberation Day' last April. Mr Trump's announcement is the latest twist in the White House's new foreign policy strategy – dubbed the 'Donroe Doctrine' after the earlier Monroe Doctrine – in which it seeks to dominate the western hemisphere and prevent foreign control of vital assets. The UK has deployed just one military officer, at Denmark's request, to Greenland to join a reconnaissance group ahead of an exercise named Arctic Endurance. Yesterday, hundreds of people in Greenland's capital braved near-freezing temperatures to march in a rally in support of their own self-governance + 8 View gallery Yesterday, hundreds of people in Greenland's capital braved near-freezing temperatures to march in a rally in support of their own self-governance Running the gauntlet of broadcast studios for the government this morning, Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy stressed that support for Greenland's sovereignty was 'non-negotiable' Mr Trump has insisted the US needs to acquire Greenland for national security reasons and has not ruled out using military force. He has claimed it is vital for his planned missile defence shield known as the Golden Dome. However, critics claim his interest is linked to Greenland's untapped mineral wealth rather than defence. The island possesses at least 25 of the 34 raw materials considered 'critical' by the EU. A meeting at the White House last Wednesday, led by Vice President JD Vance with representatives from Denmark and Greenland, ended in an impasse. Yesterday, thousands of protesters took to the streets in Denmark and in Greenland's capital Nuuk, chanting 'Greenland is not for sale' amid anger over the threats. Mr Trump is known to be a huge admirer of the Royal Family. Sir Keir wooed him with an unprecedented second state visit to the UK last year, when he was feted with great pomp and ceremony. The King has been expected to visit the US in April, while a trip by the Prince of Wales has also been pencilled in. https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/ar...eat-trade-war-unless-gets-Greenland.html

Is it just me, or has Trump effectively galvanized the majority of our allies against us? When Ukraine was the top headline, MAGA was talking about how European countries need to show more initiative and not be so dependent on the US. Well, looks (to me) like they're doing just that.

They have been left with little choice. You either allow some wanna be strong man to play games with your economy under persistent threats and economic sanctions to bow to his will at a whim or you move on.The first option is untenable. In three years trump will no longer be in The White House and we will all be left with the chaos and mistrust of everyone else on the planet left in his wake.

Yeah - this is why this tariff threat doesn't make any sense. Both the US and EU are advanced economies that have similar export and import profiles. They have a lot of trade - but mostly because they are both massive economies rather than particularly relying on each other. The US imports a bit more from the EU than vice versa. The EU just closed up a huge free trade deal with South America, and trade with China is going way up due to US tariffs on China (china has to sell those consumer goods that they make somewhere). Inflation is currently lower in the EU than in the US (2.1% in Europe for November 2025, vs. 2.7% in the US). The Euro has gotten much stronger against the dollar (1 EUR is now worth $1.16 instead of $1.04 when Trump took office). It's a really bad time for the US to try a trade war against the EU.

We will never be trusted again at this point.

French President Macron to ask the EU to consider activating the trade bazooka in response to trump aggression on Greenland. https://www.politico.eu/article/mac...e-bazooka-in-response-to-trumps-tariffs/What is it you might ask..... Response measures If those efforts do not bear fruit, and in view of set deadlines, the Commission may, as a last resort, adopt EU response measures to counteract the coercion, with a view to inducing the third country to stop its coercion. The types of measure which the Commission may take include restrictions on the access to the EU market and other economic disadvantages for the third country involved. The list of options is broad, and covers areas such as trade in goods, services, foreign direct investment, financial markets, public procurement, trade-related aspects of intellectual property rights, export controls, and more. The Commission acts by way of an implementing act, once Member States have given their views in an examination procedure. https://policy.trade.ec.europa.eu/enforcement-and-protection/protecting-against-coercion_en

Trump is a child like bully - appeasement doesn't work. So I'd say this is the EU's only real option and suffer through whatever negative economic impact follows.
The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.

Just part of a longer article to point out what "man baby" told Norway and what sanity looks like in their response........... Trump cites Nobel as escalation in text to Norwegian leader Trump’s Sunday message to Gahr Støre, released by the Norwegian government, read in part: “Considering your Country decided not to give me the Nobel Peace Prize for having stopped 8 Wars PLUS, I no longer feel an obligation to think purely of Peace, although it will always be predominant, but can now think about what is good and proper for the United States of America.”It concluded: “The World is not secure unless we have Complete and Total Control of Greenland.” The Norwegian leader said Trump’s message was a reply to an earlier missive sent on behalf of himself and Finnish President Alexander Stubb, in which they conveyed their opposition to the tariff announcement, pointed to a need to de-escalate, and proposed a telephone conversation among the three leaders. “Norway’s position on Greenland is clear. Greenland is a part of the Kingdom of Denmark, and Norway fully supports the Kingdom of Denmark on this matter,” the Norwegian leader said in a statement. “As regards the Nobel Peace Prize, I have clearly explained, including to President Trump what is well known, the prize is awarded by an independent Nobel Committee and not the Norwegian Government.” https://apnews.com/article/greenland-denmark-us-trump-starmer-9b01eb577363ee6e913722fe3d40d68eThis is what it looks like when the inmates are running the asylum.
