IMO, I think Schwartz always knew he wasn't the #1 target. I'm also assuming Berry made that clear to him.

For JS it's still a good paying job where he is well respected. Hopefully he sees it that way.

Sounds like a highly qualified candidate with a longstanding NFL track record.

Nate Scheelhaase is currently serving as the Pass Game Coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams (2025–present), known for elevating the team to the league's top passing offense in 2025. Previously an Iowa State offensive coordinator, he joined Sean McVay’s staff in 2024 as an offensive assistant and pass game specialist.

2025–Pres: Los Angeles Rams (Pass Game Coordinator)

2024: Los Angeles Rams (Offensive Assistant/Pass Game Specialist)

Iowa State (2018–2023): Served as running backs/wide receivers coach, then promoted to Offensive Coordinator/QBs coach in 2023.

Illinois (2015–2017): Began coaching career as running backs coach/offensive assistant.

Intoducing for The Cleveland Browns, Quarterback Deshawn "The Predator" Watson. He will also be the one to choose your next head coach.

Can we just stop screwing around and give Jim the HC job?

I have way more faith that Jim Schwartz can assemble a staff than one of these young guys.

The Cleveland Browns have officially scheduled a second interview with Rams passing game coordinator Nathan Scheelhaase on Monday, regardless of whether or not Los Angeles wins this weekend.

Between him and Lynn the rule will be met tomorrow.

I just can't pull for Udinski for one simple reason.

He looks way to much like Johnny Manziel.

The resemblance to JM is unsettling.

Who is your money on today GM?

Neither one. I don't like Johnny or Udinski naughtydevil naughtydevil

My personal choice..... Schwartz as Head Coach, and one of the young guys as our offensive coordinator.

What I know...... different opinions have been discussed we are not locked in on any one guy yet. but folks are a bit quiet since Kevin got the hook. But I think we will have an answer this week.

If they are meeting with the final candidate today, I'm guessing they make their decision today as well. They've had time to mull over the other candidates and scenarios if their #1 candidate at this point says no. The question will be when it is made public?

But doesn’t actually inspire confidence that they’ll land on the right choice. Is an essay really how you learn if someone can coach and run a large staff? Maybe it’s a communication style suss out? I’ll reserve judgement. I think it’s super easy to dunk on the Browns right now but I wish they wouldn’t make it so easy.

Quoting this to second much of it.
I think the whole "candidates have pulled their names" thing is being overblown. As I understand it, there have been a whopping two: one who immediately accepted another job (so why would he continue to interview with us?) and McDaniels who, it seems to me, doesn't want to be anywhere it isn't warm (and is generally a bit flaky, anyway).

Additionally, there are still teams playing and people in play that work for those teams still playing. We're NOT ALLOWED to interview them during a game week. We either have to wait for the Pro Bowl week (this coming week) or wait for their team to be eliminated.

We've all been through this a two dozen times already, none of this should be a surprise.

This appears to be a done deal.

As long as Schwartz stays.

This could work. Not an easy job given where the team is now on offense.

Now what is the plan at quarterback?

If we flew to him, then I agree, this is the hard sell to get the guy. This isn't a second interview, it is a sales pitch.

I’ve always like the idea of a young HC who could become a Tomlin/Cowher/Noll type but admittedly it’s kinda concerning considering lack of experience. Hopefully, JS sticks and between the two have some good connections to fill out the staff. Young guy might draw in some good young assistants!

I mean, WTH does this organization have to lose…

He better accept the job offer. Just whacked down $300 on him being the next HC ... 😶

Boy would the media love for this guy to shoot them down.
Although it might assure JS as coach they’d paint it as absolute failure.

Possibly be the best outcome…

I'd prefer a leader with head coaching experience but I have no problem with a young guy taking the job if he has the brass for it. But the Browns better support him and give him the best chance for success. That means having more support staff and better laid out systems than you'd have for a veteran coach. I'd look for quality mentors, someone expert that won't meddle with the X's & O's but help with the organizational management and communication needs. I can't tell you how many times I've seen hot shot young guys with great ideas and ample fire move into senior leadership only to find themselves running in wet cement of a dysfunctional org. (I was once one of them!) And news flash: every organization has some degree of dysfunction. It's a spectrum. Some have a minimum or paper over it well with very hard codified systems and clear, strong leadership, some can't even agree on their own dysfunction and are constantly tripping over themselves (hello Browns). You don't actually have to fix most of it (you can't) but you gotta give him a cockpit with a clear understanding of where the controls are and how to use them, what doesn't work and where the booby traps are. Bonus points if someone spells out best practices for managing up with Haslam.

I am officially in the boat of I don't care who the coach is, period. I am unconvinced that it will result in meaningful change aside from the front office having someone they can dictate terms to.
