Alright so some of the talking heads on ESPN are saying we made a mistake starting DW instead of SS. Fine, they’re entitled to their opinion. All that has to be done if indeed this is a mistake is say DW you’re out and Shedeur you’re in. Very simple and succinct. It’s not like it hasn’t been done before.

Exactly Fate. It’s something that can be easily corrected. It’s not like we lost millions of dollars in an investment that we can’t get back. Oh wait we did do that!!!!! 🫤That’s ok this QB situation is easier to correct 👍

Maybe in next years draft if they get it right. I don't see anyone currently in the QB room that can make the QB situation easier to correct.

When your two choices present you with a lose/lose proposition there's really no way to win no matter who you choose to start or way to correct it. You just move on the the other losing choice.

Correct- if both are losers, what's the problem? Our new coach thinks DW gives us best chance to win....we will see. Talking heads say no one wants Sanders due to weak arm, holds ball, processing speed- who knows, plus he was a Pro Bowler due to his possee- I hope Green balls out and we get real interesting before the cuts.....Go Browns!!!! Lastly, if you were paying someone millions of dollars for sure, would you want something for the millions.

First it seems we both agree that whether he went with Sander or watson he was really in a no win situation.

To address this part of your post............

Lastly, if you were paying someone millions of dollars for sure, would you want something for the millions.

Let me put is this way. if you purchased a car on a five year loan and after four years that car kept breaking down when you drove it and when it was running it couldn't even get you up the hill on your driveway in order to make it into the garage, wouldn't you already realize what you got for your money?

At that point would you trust that car to be dependable enough to use as your daily driver to and from work? I suppose you could just keep risking it already knowing there will be a lot of days you'll be calling a tow truck. But at some point i would think you would depend on a different car and leave that one in the garage.

Just sayin'.

None of them have been witnesses to practices, meeting rooms, OTA's, Bill's scrimmage.

Monken is sixty. His first chance to be a head coach. He has been witness to all of it.

He made a decision for the opener on the road. New offense, new coaches, LOS responsibilities, experience.

Monken does not care what others think. I respect his decision even though I want SS to start.

SS will play this year. It will not make a difference to the end result for the Browns.

DW will be gone next year. We will draft a quarterback in 27.

When this year ends.

My guess is that SS will have played more games than DW.

What he does in those games. I don't have a clue.

I was encouraged by what I saw in the pre-season games.

17 points in 2 games didn't give me hope. It just made me think of last year. At least last night's game will be fun to watch, realizing it is the 3rd PS game with loser talented players.

Riddick and Deion were teammates on the Falcons, and are still friends. Riddick's "endorsement" of Shedeur was more about Deion and "the way he was brought up."

Lots of guys have starter "potential." Unfortunately, Shedeur isn't starter quality right now, and I'm not convinced he's ever going to get there. Dillon looked better after virtually no reps. Unfortunately, since they invested all those reps in Shedeur, he's probably going to stick around and take more reps which, to me, would seemingly be more efficaciously spent elsewhere.

If he's had every football advantage his entire life, and he still can't do (NFL) basic stuff (i.e, consistently throw on time), why am I to believe it is suddenly going to happen this season?

He's a talented thrower, but there's a lot more to playing QB.

Ok DW is the starter.

Apparently he has been in front the whole of Camp. The scrimmage with the Bills against their ones with our ones was a big part of the decision.

I think that one has to believe this was Monken's decision all the way. I am not buying that it came from outside and he was told to start DW.

However, even though SS improved it was not enough to beat out DW.

IMO Camp is practice. In practice you don't tackle to the ground. You are instructed to protect your teammates. In that environment DW could look good. That IMO is fool's gold.

SS last season got to watch Flacco. A veteran who knows all about pre-snap and OL assignments. Knows about calling changes at the LOS.

SS got to watch Gabriel run the team. Then he played in the last seven games.

Enter Monken with a clean slate and new offense. SS had the off season to prepare. Learn what Monken ran at Baltimore. Look at his tape and what needed to be worked on. His father was there to help and review. He has available to him all he needed to come to Camp ready.

He could not beat out DW? I can only take that in one way. He is not good enough. If he didn't prepare or could not improve enough to beat out DW; then he did not deserve to start.

I guess there is a fantasy world where DW plays good enough to stay the starter. Hard to believe but I guess it is possible.

I am having a problem lighting my fire for this season. I think the QB room will once again be the downfall for the Browns.

The biggest question left in my mind about the starting QB is just how bad would DW have to be before Monken feels SS is a better alternative?

What depths would DW have to display before SS becomes the starter?

Turnovers are always death.

No head coach will tolerate a lot of turnovers.

Monken knows what good quarterback play looks like. In his offense it is about being on time and accuracy.

See it and decide. Throw with anticipation.

IMO that is precisely what DW lacks.

I don't think Monken will have a long leash if DW turns it over much. He will have patience with the other parts to a degree.

It is a new system with young players. So, he will try to coach it all up.

But it will not last more than six games. If we are 2-4 and it looks bad. SS will play.

I mean DW is 31. If he can't do it now when will he ever be able to?

Worthless post IMO. Artificial controversy is scripted as a lifestyle for these "celebrity analysts." This "DIScussion" has two sides, but consider it a bit deeper.
The Browns have two lousy choices in their contrived "competition" they milked for months. The "others" looked better to me than DW and SS. DW is chosen. SS is benched.
My point is coming. The choices are not excluding each other. SS is the lesser of two weak candidates. DW is "starter" in this room, but not consistently able to function as a winning NFL QB. Fans have seen one ceiling, not two. Those embracing SS probably have given in to the urge to draw to inside straights playing poker. They can have their own "expert" "analyst" "panelist" "celebrity" talking heads stacked up like cordwood opining away. The field is all that matters. This discussion is silly, and keeping score of winners and losers is silliest of all.

We have an offensive minded HC that did a very good job in Baltimore. I feel more confident with him than Stefanski. Another thing, what difference does it really make whom we start especially to all the talking heads? If things don't work out with DW than we just make a change. I think it would be detrimental to the teams moral if we started a QB that was 2nd best in training camp. The players know what QB was playing the best as they will know when the QB that starts should be replaced because of poor play. The team wants to win. It's nothing new for us to make a QB change.

In some ways I just want to end it with DW.

Let him play till the wheels come off. Once he is taken out. Let it be the end.

I mean let's forget the fantasy that somehow he will be the guy we traded for.

RIP the band-aid off.

Let SS prove one way or the other what he can do.

My interest is the development of the young core. Haslam, Berry and the Browns organization know that this year is going to be a waste.

I will try to make the best of it and watch the young guys perform.

And on this much we agree. I can't think of a single HC in the NFL that would put up with a lot of turnovers from his QB.

But that brings up another HUGE factor IMO. How would changing over to SS help in that department? Sanders threw 7 td's compared to 10 int's last season and began this year by throwing 2 int's and 1 td in preseason. I'm not sure how handing the reigns over to an already known turnover machine would help in that department.

In fact I believe that Sanders propensity to turn the ball over may have been one of the main ingredients in determining DW would be the starting QB.

I know it doesn't sound logical to happen but if ball security was the main focus of changing starting QB's Gabriel may be the best choice.

I'm sure Gabriel will get a shot at playing this season. I'm sure they all will plus someone not on the roster at this point.

I try to keep in mind that Monken has zero ties to Sanders, Gabriel or DW. They were here before he got here. The only QB currently with the team Monken has any ties to is Taylon Green. If they are only forced to use three starting QB's this season I have no idea which way it would lean between Gabriel and Green.
