JD Vance Says He’s Doing ‘God’s Work’ and ‘If That Leads to the End Times, Ok’ Vice President JD Vance claimed that he is "doing as much of God's work as possible," and added that he is at peace if doing so means bringing about the end times. Vance sat for an interview on Monday's edition of the Bryce Crawford Podcast, hosted by a 22-year-old evangelical Christian. "What do you think about the end times?" Bryce Crawford asked, referring to the Christian belief that the world as we currently know it will someday end, and that Jesus will return. "Do you think it's here? Do you think it's coming?" Vance replied that he has "always been fascinated" by eschatology and stated that the Antichrist, a figure in Christian lore who will allegedly pose as a Jesus-like figure, may be "walking among us." The vice president also added that he is "ok" with his actions leading to the end times if that is what happens: Do I think that we're in the end times? I don't know. And I think that it's probably bad for me spiritually to focus too much on it because there are like, things that you gotta do. I gotta be good to my wife. I gotta be good to my kids. I have to be as good of a leader as I can for the United States of America. And so, I think that focusing on – while I'm fascinated by it – focusing on it is, too much of it can be very bad. I think that there are like, things about the world that make me feel like not shocked if the Antichrist was walking among us. But again, I try not to focus too much on it.
So, I tend to think like, while I wouldn't be shocked if we are living in the end times, what I'm trying to focus on is doing as much of God's work as possible right now. And if that leads to the end times, ok. And if that leads to you know, us building a better world that thrives and survives for a very long time after I'm gone, that's great too.Vance converted to Catholicism in 2019. At the time, he explained, "I became persuaded over time that Catholicism was true. I was raised Christian, but never had a super-strong attachment to any denomination, and was never baptized. When I became more interested in faith, I started out with a clean slate, and looked at the church that appealed most to me intellectually." Vance is a former protege of billionaire Palantir founder Peter Thiel, who himself has fixated on the Antichrist. Earlier this year, Thiel delivered a series of lectures on the topic in the Vatican. https://www.yahoo.com/news/politics/articles/jd-vance-says-doing-god-223836378.html"Onward Christian soldiers marching as to war! With the cross of Jesus going on before."

Maybe just ignore it while then paying much attention to what some random left wing looney says or does .... but this should be deeply troubling. While Vance is alledgedly a christian - having such a "if god wills it" sort of attitude is simply scary.... what is then the response from these types of people when there is a Muslim, Hindus, Sikhs or other religion ... maybe even a Zoroastrian - and they believe they are doing god's work and it doesn't neccary jive with what Vance wants to espouse?? I am sure they all belive they are true belivers ... and they believe there's is the only real and proper God, and they believe in their religion fervently because they are devout and they are pious, or maybe zealous or radical.

I don't really see anything to justify in what Vance said in the quoted part of the interview. I see more fearmongering in your and Pit's responses.
Admitting there are things you can't control isn't that scary or nuts to me. If there's a God and he decides to end the world, there's nothing any person can do about it. All you can do is what you think is right. If he's doing what he thinks is right, and the world ends, he believes he knows where he is going, so why wouldn't he be "ok" with it? What's the proper approach?
I disagree with a lot of what Vance does and says, but the article seems to be slanting the perception of what was actually said in this instance with loaded language. The writer trying to tie this to someone else's alleged fixation with the Antichrist is the "wing nut" part to me.
What do you want Christians to do? Be afraid and try to avoid "God's plan"? Not do "God's work"?
Calling what any "good Christian" is supposed to do/believe wing nuts is just a bit strange to me.

It's all in the interpretation.
He didn't say "there are things I can't control and I am focusing on what I think are the right decisions for the country." .... he said "what I'm trying to focus on is doing as much of God's work as possible right now. And if that leads to the end times, ok"
You can - as you do - argue one thing sounds exactly like the other. I disagree.

Yes, somehow in your desire to bring about anything you can involving a question mark you think quoting what he said as strange and you don't find the fact he openly admits he is going to focus his every decision based on religion and let the consequences part of his thought process carry no weight seems perfectly normal and pointing that out is fear mongering? Come on man.

Come on man. I think you're reading too much into a response to an end times-centric question from a Christian podcaster about his general philosophy and trying to apply it to his decision making in office. Never does he say every decision will be based on religion. That seems to be others (including the writer and you) bringing their own biases and trying to stir things up.

Can you tell me what decisions in his life outside of his office could possibly ever remotely bring about the end of times ??? No, neither can I. Not a real one anyway... I mean someone being a troll or trying to gaslight might argue some bizarre butterfly effect scenario whereby he causes a quadrillion upon trillion to 1 chance of some chain reaction .....
So when he talks about him doing god's work and if it leads to the end of times, he is without doubt talking about his decision making in office.

How would you respond to a question about the end times on a religious podcast? Would you not refer to them at all?
It's sort of a weird question to have to respond to, especially when someone later tries to take it out of context. It's not like he brought it up out of the blue. He's replying to a specific inquiry in a specific forum. They also cut out a decent bit of his response (the [...] in the original link that Pit didn't include in his version.)
Trying to apply a portion of his response to a specific question to all decisions seems a reach to me.
Like if a reporter asked him in the White House how he makes decisions, I'm pretty sure the end times never come up. But when asked about the end times on a Christian podcast, there are only so many ways it is likely to go. Since that was the place and question, to me, it makes sense where it went.

"What do you think about the end times?" Bryce Crawford asked, referring to the Christian belief that the world as we currently know it will someday end, and that Jesus will return. "Do you think it's here? Do you think it's coming?"
This was the question.
My answer, and I'll even phrase it as it I'm a Christian.
"All any of us can do is be the best version of our Christian self we can be, being that we have no insight or control of that event"
I don't imply any decision I might make could influence or bring about the end of times.
Sure it's a weird question. 100%. While it's open to interpretation, I also think it's a freaky weird answer.... No matter how you try to reframe it.

Weird I'll give you.
Pit's "focus his every decision based on religion and let the consequences part of his thought process carry no weight" seems to be a bridge or several too far for me.

Here was the question.... "What do you think about the end times?" Here is a part of his answer..... "what I'm trying to focus on is doing as much of God's work as possible right now. And if that leads to the end times, ok." If you wish to try and twist that around have at it. It plainly states his goal is to to God's work. Not follow the constitution or carry out his duties as the vice president. He was not asked anything about his role in the end times. He wasn't asked how his actions may impact the end times. He was not asked anything that had to do with him at all. This was something he chose on his own volition to enter into the conversation. Nothing about that question pertained to him at all until he chose to make it so. He could have answered that question in several different ways without bringing himself or any of his own actions into the topic. You always do things like this and I have no idea why. But in this case it's very simple to see what he did here.

Who is Patrick Havas? Registered Republican Accused of Targeting Amy Acton The suspected armed assailant who authorities say charged at Amy Acton, the Democratic candidate for Ohio governor, during a campaign stop at the Canfield Fair on Sunday is a registered Republican, according to reports and records reviewed by Newsweek. Patrick Havas, 38, knocked over multiple members of the audience as he forced his way through a crowd toward Acton, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said in a statement. He had a Taser and two pistols, the state highway patrol said. Havas is being held at the Mahoning County Jail. He was booked on charges of disorderly conduct and two counts of assault. Acton is facing Republican Vivek Ramaswamy in November's election to succeed term-limited Republican Governor Mike DeWine. The race is among the nation's most closely watched gubernatorial contests. Newsweek has contacted Acton's campaign, Ohio State Highway Patrol and Mahoning County Sheriff's Office for further comment via emails sent outside regular business hours. The incident occurred in the Mahoning County Democratic Party tent at one of Ohio's largest annual fairs. Havas, of Canfield, Ohio, entered the tent and began "pushing his way through the crowd" while using his cellphone to record, the Mahoning County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement posted on social media. Havas is a registered Republican and licensed nurse, according to records reviewed by Newsweek and reports in TiffinOhio.net and The Daily Beast. His last vote was in 2024. He was arrested on charges of disorderly conduct and petty theft in 2008, but the theft charge was dismissed after he pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct, according to court records reviewed by Newsweek. Havas was accused in that case of stealing three movies—The Untouchables, Full Metal Jacket and Casino Royale—from a Giant Eagle supermarket. He was handed a 30 day jail sentence that was suspended. Havas was also fined for traffic offenses in 2008 and 2011. What Happened at Canfield Fair? Acton's security detail, which was made up of troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, were able to confront the suspect and he was taken into custody, the sheriff’s office said. Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene told CBS News that as Havas rushed forward, he allegedly knocked into two older people on mobility scooters who fell to the ground. Havas had two handguns and a set of brass knuckles on him, but no weapons were brandished or even removed from their holsters during the incident, the sheriff’s office said. The sheriff’s office said it will continue investigating the incident and "will be filing charges after consulting with the County Prosecutor." The state patrol will investigate any potential threat assessment, the sheriff’s office added. Addie Bullock, communications director for Acton’s campaign, said in a statement that "an armed individual lunged at Dr. Acton, injuring multiple people. "Dr. Acton and Eric are grateful for the swift and decisive action of law enforcement and are praying for the recovery of those injured."Bullock added that Acton "will always stand up to the chaos, hate and vitriol that pits us against one another." Republicans Condemn Incident Acton's gubernatorial opponent Ramaswamy condemned the incident as "completely unacceptable." "Candidates should be able to meet with voters without having to worry about threats or violence. What happened today is completely unacceptable and has no place in politics, and we hope that no one was hurt," Ramaswamy’s communications director, Connie Luck, said in a statement provided to Newsweek. Incumbent Ohio governor DeWine said in a statement posted on X that a man had "tried to forcefully push himself" toward Acton as she was speaking at the fair. "Violence or the threat of violence at political or public events is always unacceptable," he said. "This case is now in the hands of law enforcement and will be investigated thoroughly." Ohio Republican Senator Jon Husted also condemned the incident, writing on X that he and his wife were "disturbed by the attempted attack on Amy Acton today at the Canfield Fair." Husted added: "We are grateful for law enforcement’s quick response. There is no place for this kind of behavior, and it must never be tolerated." The Mahoning County Republican Party wrote on Facebook: "We are disappointed that Dr. Amy Acton’s visit to the Canfield Fair was disrupted today. "We condemn politically-motivated violence in any form and are grateful for the law enforcement officers present who quickly restored order after the incident." https://www.newsweek.com/who-is-pat...-accused-of-targeting-amy-acton-12410781In reference to the part of the article in bold type. I mean come on, we all know that every Democrat is a member of the Godless hoard and would never pray for anyone. Who are they trying to fool?

There were two other questions in the article before the response you keep quoting out of context. Part of the interview wasn't quoted in the article, it was deliberately cut out between the questions and that part of his response. Have you ever taken a communications class? A big part of public speaking is knowing your audience. He wasn't addressing the American people. He was talking to a Christian podcaster. It seems the direction he went with his answer was made with that in mind. On a Christian podcast, he focused on God's work. Do you want him to take the separation of church and state seriously or don't you?

Random idiots abound on both sides.
Wonder if anyone in DC has the cojones to put Trump up for impeachment for damages to the dignity of the office. He's left plenty of evidence in his wake.

There was one question about the end times. This was the answer to that question. It's all spelled out in the article and you know that. Chasing your own tail is not attractive.

Random idiots do abound on both sides. It's just that only one side has decided to find the nastiest human being they could find in the nominating process that does everything he can to abuse his power and say, "Yep that's my guy!" and elect him leader of the free world.

Wonder if anyone in DC has the cojones to put Trump up for impeachment for damages to the dignity of the office. He's left plenty of evidence in his wake. Yes there are idiots on both sides. Something I have always stated. Maybe there are left wing websites and FB pages dedicated to quoting the stupidest and meanest things that the random and truly ignorant and extreme right wing supremisists say - ditto MAGA supporters etc .... In fact I am sure there has to be somwehere. BUT - on Dawgtalkers, there it's overwhelmingly the "Right" posting random dumb 'Liberals' and using that to spam the board while paying no heed or comment to the things POTUS says and does. Hence my comment. Sorry if you missed that point. But I didn't suggest that there weren't idiots 'everywhere'. As for impeaching Trump for damaging the dignity of the office - that seems shallow and spureous to me. In fact if a left leaning poster had suggested that I suspect you would take great umbrage with it. Also it would be more than credible to argue that leaving Biden in office, suffering mental decline as he did, was just as damaging. And as much as I would love to see every individual that enabled that or tried to cover it up held accountable - I can't see how that process works.

Yesterday..... How would you respond to a question about the end times on a religious podcast? Would you not refer to them at all?
It's sort of a weird question to have to respond to, especially when someone later tries to take it out of context. It's not like he brought it up out of the blue. He's replying to a specific inquiry in a specific forum. Now today...... How do you know what it was in response to? Did you declare today "opposite day"?

No, it's not opposite day, but apparently it is another Pit tries to gaslight someone day. I referred to a (generic) question about the end times. You quoted a specific line that had more after it, and left out a bunch in between it and the response, and tried to tie the two directly together.

I think you and Pit post about as much as all the other posters on the board in the Palus Politicus forum put together (if not more, perhaps much more), and I don't think you consider yourself the "Right", so your "overwhelming" seems a bit much. Shallow and spureous, perhaps- but there is an enormous amount of damning evidence to support the position. You could argue Biden being damaging to the dignity of the office, but it has no bearing on this also being damaging. Unfortunately, I do think the standards for impeachment for a President are harder to clear than for other government officers, so conduct unbecoming probably isn't enough unless Congress and the Senate decide it reaches the threshold of "High crimes and misdemeanors." Calling all democrats/"dumocrats" deranged people could be seen as an offense that undermines the government. Was grasping for straws a bit because Trump is awful.

Feel free to show me spamming the boards with FB or Twitter posts extolling how dumb some random member of the public is.
Take your time I can wait.
The Party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.
