It's only "odd" because they both happened on the same day. That's why everyone is comparing them.

To be fair (and btw, I agree with you 100 on a longer suspension for Stephans) there is no league anywhere that won't $h*t-can you for punching players multiple times, yelling at coaches and refusing to come off the field. That dude is a straight head-case and got exactly what he deserved.

The problem is too many idolize the thug mentality. Be it in sports or anywhere else. The actual hit can be shrugged off as an accident. The celebrations can't. We have become like the Romans, a blood thirsty society.

More on topic of college football, the Gators look like they finally found the right head coach.

Sources: College Football Playoff nearing deal for 24-team format in '27

The College Football Playoff is nearing a deal to expand the field to 24 teams in 2027, sources told ESPN's Pete Thamel. The deal is expected to come together in the near future, pending final approvals.

The CFP and ESPN have been negotiating a new deal for the network to be its continued broadcast partner, leading to a seismic move for the postseason that is also expected to eliminate the lucrative Power 4 conference championship games and start the season a week earlier.

While final details have yet to be announced, discussions about the 24-team field have included 19 at-large bids, the Power 4 conference champions as determined by each league and the highest-ranked Group of 6 team.

The New Year's Six bowls (Rose, Fiesta, Sugar, Peach, Orange and Cotton) are still expected to host the quarterfinals and semifinals, with the national championship game remaining in January.

"Constructive discussions with ESPN continued this week," the CFP said in a statement Thursday. "We have enjoyed a strong partnership with ESPN since our inception and are appreciative of the productive dialogue we have had throughout the negotiating period and continuing over the last several days. We will provide additional updates on the matters of future format and media rights when appropriate."

Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti, whose conference has been the driving force behind the 24-team model, has pushed back against the notion that it will devalue the regular season because the system includes "tiered incentives."

Under the proposed plan, teams seeded Nos. 1 through 8 would earn a first-round bye followed by a home game. (The No. 1 seed would face the winner of No. 16 vs. No. 17, the No. 2 seed would face the winner of No. 15 vs. No. 18 and so on). Teams hovering around No. 17 and No. 18 would want to move up so they can host a first-round home game (awarded to teams seeded Nos. 9-16), while teams at the bottom are constantly trying to stay in the field or protect their spot.

The historic change to the sport's postseason is expected just two seasons after the field tripled from four to 12 teams. In March 2024, ESPN and the CFP agreed to a six-year, $7.8 billion contract that ensured the network would remain the sole media rights holder for the event through the 2031-32 season.

On Sept. 9, ESPN and the CFP entered a 30-day negotiation window to determine what the value of a 24-team field would be. The window closed Oct. 9, but discussions continued through this week.

HO HO HO HOOSIERS!!!!!

This game was never an issue until last year! I was born a Buckeye and rooted for the Buckeyes and Woody Hayes! I attended Indiana University during Coach Knight years. Buckeyes in the fall, Hoosiers in Winter! Easy!

Then, last year, for the first time, I found myself rooting against the Bucks!

Anyway, I hope this is a good ol'fashioned B1G game!

To the best team...CHEERS!

I don't think greed has much to do with this. I think demand from the public has driven this.

Nobody was happy when the AP picked the top team when the season ended after the last bowl games were played. That is except the team who was picked as #1.

They moved to a championship game, then expanded it to bring more team in to the mix as just two teams didn't work after a season or two.

Nobody has said that basketball has been ruined by March Madness. I don't see football ever going above 24 teams. Just not enough time since teams can't play multiple game a week as can be done in basketball.

Moving to 24 gives all legit teams a chance to compete for the national championship. After that, somebody is going to moan, but at that point not many will care about their tears. My only concern is how they will determine the top 24 teams. I hope the process isn't so rigid that some 1 loss team in a weak conference gets in by default while some 2-3 loss team from a tough conference gets left out. There still has to be some common sense involved.

I am just picking a few teams out of the sky, but I'd rather see a 3 loss Wisconsin playing over some 1 loss James Madision against a 1 loss USC. Again, I am just picking out names from the hat.

If greed is involved, that is where it will happen to be "inclusive" in order to draw viewership. IMO a middle of the pack SEC or Big Ten team would beat many league champs and stand a better chance to make that Cinderella run you see in basketball.

That can happen in basketball because it only takes 1-2 players to carry a team. You need more than that in football. It takes an entire team with depth to compete. Other major sports only need that 1 player because it is a 1 on 1 matchup game. In basketball if you have that 1 guy who can win his match-up, you have a chance. In baseball if you have that stud on the mound, you have a chance. If you have the best goalie, a hockey team has a chance.

Nobody has been clamoring for a 24 team playoff. rolleyes

No matter how many teams you include in the playoffs all teams who were close to making it will claim they should have been in. This will solve nothing in thqat regard. All it does is creare yet another way to rake in more $$$$.

Of course people wanted it. Quit saying stupid suff. No doubt some might complain about not being included, but as I said if you actually read my comment, the playoff is expanded as far as possible unless you cut way in to team seasons and once you get down to the 25th team who doesn't make it not many are going to care, except maybe you and the fans of the team left on the bubble.

Plus, what is your problem with money? I suspect I know, but I will leave it there.

No way Ohio should have won the game today ! Arthur Smith sucked as an NFL coach and sucks as the OC for us .. Seems we have no ready to play QB behind Sayin who all so caved in a big game .. We have to much talent on the O side not to put up lots of points.. D played their ass of today , but I question how # 80 kept getting open all game ?

First time I got to watch Ohio State this year. Completely underwhelmed by Sayin. I mean - wow ! Missed receivers when not under pressure, bad decision making and taking sacks needlessly. Indiana out coached Ohio for much of the game and we can definitely say we were somewhat fortunate to win.

All teams need some of those but OSU was very fortunate at the end.

I agree. Wearied the loss. Our OC needs some direction. Savin stunk at times, taking sacks, missed folks, late with release. Poor judgment multiple times, and he is pushing the ball rather than throwing. Our OC is poor. We should have more points than he has put up. Day better address some issues and demand some variety. Lousy play list. Go, Bucks!
