Peen...Sorry, I do not agree.
The QB is one of 11 players and has a job to do. His job can't be done very well if the remaining 10 players don't do their jobs.
When I view an offensive unit, the QB is just one of the 11 and I do not put him on any one position on a pedestal.

You are entitled to your opinion.
I just know that nearly everyone agrees that QB is the single most important position on the team.

getting back to the thread ..
Matt Schwaub ... I would LOVE to get this kid in FA ...
[color:"white"] DnD .. everything u say is TRUE ... except the fact U think Charlie can do it ... HES JUNK BRO .. he is not now and never will be the answer ..
the guys U talk about brought certain things to the table .. but one thing they all had was they learned how to or could MANAGE A GAME .. Charlie has NO CLUE how to do that ..
this year a GREAT EXAMPLE of that will be Rex Grossman (and I dotn blame him I blame Lovie Smith for being a hard headed IDIOT just like Dungy was back when he decided to start Shawn King) ... all Chitown needs to advance through the pitiful NFC is a QB to manage the game and not make stupid plays .. GROSSMAN WONT DO THAT ... Frye will never be able to either ... he has WAY TO MANY NEGATIVES and things he can't do ..
sorry bro his leadership skills and POTENTIALLY GOOD decision making skills will just never be able to overcome his lack of PHYSICAL SKILLS ... theres thinggs PHYSICALLY he just cant do that EVEN IF HE CATCHES ON MENTALLY he won'rt be able to overcome no matter how good the team around him is ..
he may get one more year out of neccessatiy .. but he'll be gone when we get good ..
[color:"white"] Peenie .. as usual your wrong ... the QB only handles the ball on every play ... and its not like ball possesion is very important ..

[color:"gold"]Vers...obviously, reading comprehension is not your strong suit as this is what I said...
" Frye is not the most important player on the football field, the offensive line is.
I know that is 5 positions and not just one, but you could say that their are 5 positions more important than QB." _________________________________________________________
I did try to distinguish between the Oline unit and the individuals that make up that unit. Maybe you just didnt understand, vers?
In my view, the QB position is not superior to any of the other 10 positions on the offense. Each position requires a player with different talents and each of those 11 players has a job to do on each play to make the offense work and for each play to be successful.
I just don't buy the perception some "fans" seem to have, that the QB is "special" or should be put on a pedestal above the other 10 players on the offensive unit.
At this time, the Browns don't need a QB, from this draft. We don't need RBs, WRs or TEs on the offensive side of the ball either....but offensive linemen?....Yep, we need to begin the process of building the offensive line via the draft and getting away from Oline free agents, IMO.
Hey Vers, maybe your boy Holcomb would come back and play for the Browns since he didn't make the pro bowl this year...you think, Veers??

[color:"red"]I am unsure about Charlie.
Hmmm after watching him..I went back and read his bio and thought about it..and some things are very evident to me..and others are hard to decifer..
I said I would give my take on him after the season..it's on now.. While he can make some plays are those plays enough to thoughly manage the offense and consistantly put points on the board?
Or can he onlt make a few plays but have bad ones that kills drives etc?
Even if he and the recievers are on the same page can he get it done? Can he get HOT in a game and carry the offense , drive the team down the field and put up TD's?
Or does he lacksome of the intangibles that a QB needs to lead the team? He has some physical skills that hamper him but I see this inability to control the game the way he needs to ..
Even if all the parts are around him I feel he is limited in what he can do.. I think he really has trouble reading defenses..and just seems in the redzone he can't take over and make the big plays..
I look at consistancy and even if the parts around U are not good or not working as should..I should see the things in Frye that say: "Hes a good QB regardless".. That said we do need a QB and a vet.

I would like to see us get Schaub. Good call Diam.
People can blame the line if they want to. There is some truth to that, but you can still grade a QB with this line. It was a functional line. Not a good line, but functional. Even still, you can look at the intangibles of the QB. Vision, arm strength, timing....you can still judge the skill set a QB demonstrates.
Upgrade does mean that things get better.........RIGHT?

I think virtually everyone agrees the oline must be fixed. I'm sure we can go into next preseason with a much better Oline especially If Bentley comes back. If we have the opportunity to draft Joe Thomas or trade down and draft LT Sam Baker or OG Justin Blaylock someone will trade big for that 3rd spot to move 5 to 10 down. Then you pick up a good vet linemen in FA and you have a pretty decent oline to start the season. If we do have an Oline giving enough time to Frye/Anderson and they still turn the ball over with no one else to go to at quarterback but Dorsey then were up the creek without a paddle once again and back to the days of Couch and Holcomb. So lets bring in a Vet, the worse that can happen is we have some veteran leadership on the bench for Frye/Anderson to go to and good QB depth which obviously helps. Want a good point of reference? Look no further then AJ Feely puting up huge numbers on Sunday for the Eagles and he's the 3rd string QB for them.
Also, another point I wanted to make was Im not sold on drafting Branch in the first round If he opts to come out, he was beat pretty good by Sam Baker which is why If Thomas isnt there Id be all for trading down for Baker and picking up a another second rd pick. Did anyone happen to see Thomas's performance in his bowl game?

When fans dont understand football and how it's played or how teams are built they blame whats easy to blame and thats the QB position, I guess that means Don Shula does not understand football. In an interview last week Shula stated that the QB position is the most important position of any of the major sports. I tend to share that opinion! And in my opinion to settle for anything less than the best possible option at that position is a major mistake.
Just wait till next season, I have heard that for over 40 years!
