I haven't really seen anything that points either way, Daman. I know he canceled his visit with the Saints and that he was supposed to meet with the Cardinals on Sunday (per www.kffl.com).

Blackstock (6-3, 244), a rush linebacker with experience in the 3-4 defense, would be familiar with Romeo Crennel's defense and philosophy. A third-round pick in 2005 out of Virginia, Blackstock played there under former Browns defensive assistant Al Groh, who coached with Crennel under Bill Parcells. Blackstop has been primarily a backup and special teams player in Arizona, but some scouts think he can develop into an every down player in the right system. Well, nothing has been said that Laboy refused us. Maybe he's just seeing what other offers he can get before he makes a decision.
And, just because we're bringing a guy in for a visit doesn't mean we're definitely going to sign him.
Just sayin'...

There might be many reasons one might be he wanted outragous amount of money, Phil gives a fair contract but wont over pay what he believes is fair, and maybe Laboy wants to see Arizona and weight all his options before he signs, might not be anything we did or didnt do.

I think LaBoy had some concussions problems?
If so the Browns don't need that kind of a risk.. Lets see if they like Blackstock..

Probably wants too much money. Given the outrageous contracts some of these GM's are giving out LaBoy is probably looking to cash in and Phil wasn't budging. Just a guess.

The Cardinals website has a webcast about the LaBoy visit. Sounds like that is where he would like to be. Plus when they leave they usually do not come back.
I wonder if we will turn our attention to Odom who is visiting the Vikings today.

Blackstock was an OLB in Arizona but we may look at him as an ILB. He's not very good in coverage. He is well suited to stop the run.

Upon a bit of digging...I've seen at least 9 or 10 Titan fans state that he's one concussion away from retirement...
Maybe a good move here...At least we didn't get into that bidding thing and let him go much like Clements last year...

This isn't necessarily meant for you. I find it funny that when we lose a guy to another team Phil is showing restraint. But when we get a guy Phil is a genius. I'd like that job. He can't lose.
As I recall Laboy was here talking for 2 days, or at least overnight, and everyone seemed pretty happy about it. Now he's a Card and he's one concussion away from retirement? Pretty funny if you ask me.
Just a word of caution....on the face of it I like all the moves we've made so far. But that doesn't mean any of these new guys is gonna play worth a damn come September. I think I'll wait awhile until I buy my Super Bowl tickets.........

i had no idea about the concussion history... but then again just about everyone is one hit away......
I was hoping for LaBoy, he was the first LB brought in by Savage- obviously they saw something in him that they thought would translate to the 3-4. Unfortunately, the value wasn't there. Arizona must have called when he was in negotiations with the browns, what he heard was enough for him to cancel the trip the New orleans and hit a flight to the desert. At the right price, which i would say is about half of what he signed for, it would have been nice to have him as a brown. Move on the plan B, the next tier of guys is for backups- doubt you can find a starter at this point. Blackstock is the next target- can't say i know much about him either, but as long as he can play special teams and a situational down every now and then i'm ok with it.

I didn't know there is an underlying problem with you and Otto. When I'm not around all day I tend to skim most of the posts on here with the exception of the people I trust know about what they are posting.
To get back on topic, who do you think we should bring in at OLB? My opinion is that while we need someone to rush the passer, we also need someone who can also play the run. I like Peek and his ability as a pass rusher. I believe he can be ok against the run. He was injuried all of last year, and from what I understand they weren't little nagging injuries.
He can be upgraded, but by whom?

Not really..I just felt like coming back on his post..sometimes we do get excited when a guy comes in ..and sometimes a bit disappointed when he's not signed..but I don't see a whole lot of people saying Phil is a genuis..
Anyway...
Right now there are no big names to bring in at OLB..
Even where we pick in the draft there might be several prospects..maybe not impact players but sold guys.

This is very true but I think that's going to be the case with people on message boards. It's exciting times and people take the word of other posters as truth when refering to a guy. I doubt many people at all knew anything about LaBoy. I never saw him play.

As for Antwann Peek, I have seen him play (as have most of us since I hope everyone tries to watch all the games). He's a decent pass rusher whom always seems to be a step too late. Not as good of a pass rusher as Wimbley but he gets decent pressure on the QB. Against the run I feel like Peek gets smoked. He plays to aggressive and doesn't follow his contain assignment. I feel like Wimbley has upped his game huge against the run last year and I expect this coming year to be a really big one for him. When turnovers and big plays happen he usually seems to be there. I didn't buy his jersey without a reason, hehe.
But yeah, Peek is definitely a place where we need to upgrade. He's purely a pass rusher due to his lack of ability playing the run. I don't think this had anything to do with injuries either, rather it's instincts and mindset. It's the same thing they said about him on the Cardinals (I think) and in college, too aggressive. If I saw him reacting on time and not getting to the carrier or missing a tackle or not getting off a block, okay, but no he was simply out of the play trying to get to the QB.
I remember Blackstock or (however his name is spelled) in college at UVA. He was a very good player and team captain. I was one of the guys pimping him myself. He seemed like an all-around good player who was undersized for DE and a step too slow for OLB. He was able to play the run and rush the passer though. I don't know how he is in coverage, but he's young and that's key with the FA IMO.
If he looks good though I'd love to have him. I remember inteviews with him in college and he was a motivated guy who seemed to have his act together. Of course if you're a 3-4 OLB you must play some sort of coverage, and since Wimbley isn't paticularly good at that, I'd like a guy at the same level if not better than Kamerion in that regard.
CORRECTION: I Might be confusing Darryl Tapp with Blaylock. Not sure guys............
Point is, we need another OLB to compliment Peek who can stop the run but won't get outrun by Ben Roethlisberger ALA Big Willie.

Wow, he could really help if he can stay healthy. I remember there being a lot of folks going gaga over the kid when he came out.
If the cost isn't too high (e.g. incentive laden perhaps?), then at worst he should be some really nice depth.

It wasnt too long ago that Browns fans didnt like Jamal Lewis. In fact many were calling him a drug dealer. Now, you wont find too many Browns fans still rooting against him.
I know I have probabley said that DA, will never be a winning, starting QB in the NFL. Now Im glad Im wrong, rooted for him, and happy that he made the Pro Bowl. Half way thru the year, there were national writers calling DA the underdog MVP. Saying that he would be the midseason MVP in most years. but Brady was putting up record numbers.
Not one Browns fan rooted for Bill Cowher. But many was rooting for him to come here.
Im still on the Tim Couch bandwagon. If only Couch got drafted by this team and not the one in '99. I think he would be getter then DA. DA might have been lesser know then Josh MCown.
back to Free Agency.....
I hope we re-sign Chaun Thompson. Especailly more so than any backup from any other team. If other teams are not looking at him, then he would be the best optian for the price. He knows the system, his teammates and specail teams. And he can step in at any LB spot at any time of the game. Hes not a playmaking game changer, but I want him re-signed. Id keep him on the team until he gets beat out by a rookie in preseason.

True. But you don't usually find them jumping on then off in the same 24 hour period. Which is what I was pointing out.
It also depends what you consider bandwagon jumping, I guess. Changing your team affiliation every year would be considered jumping, I'm sure. But deciding a player like Couch isn't gonna cut it after watching him for 5 years is hardly jumping off the wagon.

The Giants fans were happy to see him go. I was excited to see he was a first round pick until I got to there boards and read their post. His contract was terminated...

i think injuries are the biggest thing with him, but i remember him coming out of Miami and thought he was solid. Maybe he just has the Courtney Brown bug, I don't know. But hey, price right and incentives, worth a shot.
