Edwards has nothing. And he's been in the league six years. That's a bit of time. And if Rod Marinelli can't teach you some pass rush moves, you're either a total dolt or just hopeless.
Bravo...And talk to me about a 6' 6" 265 Defensive END in a 4-3 D...
Do u even grasp the difference between that 4-3 End and that 3-4 OLB???
Before we go any further...Explain the difference...If u can...
Are you disputing the fact Edwards has no moves?
Also the comment to Big C about wether or not he knows the diference between a 4-3 DE and an OLB in a 3-4 was pretty harsh. I think Big C has proven to just about everyone that he has a pretty good grasp of the NFL and players. Maybe you should try debating him on the merits (or lack there of) of Edwards instead of trying to insult him. That way people like me can learn something.

Just say "NO" to this guy,he has way too many ?. Let's make sure we bring Rogers in correctly before we chance it with another risky player.

BigC - You are absolutely right that Edwards would be an OLB in the 3-4. As far as height, I caught a lot of junk a while back about Corey Jackson because he was "too tall" and I thought he might be able to be a role player at OLB. Now everyone is attacking you for the same reasons. I just can't believe 1-2 inches is that much. To me it is what you do with those inches. As for his talent, well I just haven't seen enough to have an opinion. Django - I doubt Davis or Robertson sniff the end of round 4. No saying we can't still draft one of these guys if they are available even if we sign Edwards. Here is a link about Edwards and the Browns. http://www.eastcoastsportsnews.com/AlsHotNwsRms.html Kalimba Edwards...The Cleveland Browns are interested in Edwards as a rush-end OLB for their 3-4 scheme and will reportedly be bringing Edwards in for a visit next week.

I don't know what to think. Somebody please tell me. Savage wanted this kid two years ago. He has had a pretty good track record in the past two years with bringing in players. These new revelations (the past two years) on Edwards do trouble me. His scouting report out of college mentioned he was better suited in a 4-3 as a DE. One of the reports mentioned he lacked the speed and coverage abilities as a LB. I posted those reports earlier in this thread. I wish more people on here have seen him play and can report to us. If he is cheap I would bring him in. I am worried that a long term contract would be very bad.

according to this (pft) , Edwards isnt the only OLB visiting the Browns:
HAGGANS DRAWING INTEREST Posted by Michael David Smith on March 14, 2008, 7:23 p.m.
Although things have slowed down considerably on the NFL free agent front, one veteran linebacker appears to be drawing more interest now than he has at any point in the last two weeks.
Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that free agent linebacker Clark Haggans, who has played his entire eight-year NFL career in Pittsburgh, is becoming a hot commodity on the free agent market. According to Schefter, the Browns and Colts have both called Haggans recently, and the Steelers are still interested in re-signing him as well.
Haggans has a visit with Cleveland scheduled for next week, and he would appear to be a good fit there, both because his skills are well suited for the defense Browns coach Romeo Crennel runs, and because the Browns have made clear this off-season that they’re more interested in acquiring veterans who can help them win now than they are in building for the future.
The 31-year-old Haggans started all 16 games in Pittsburgh last season, but if he returns to the Steelers in 2008 he may have trouble holding onto his spot in the starting lineup, as 2007 second-round draft pick LaMarr Woodley is being groomed for the job.

Considering he would probably replace David McMillan on the roster I say give Kalimba a shot. We've all seen what David can (or should I say cannot) do in the NFL, but we have never seen Kalimba Edwards in a 3-4. I am anxious to see what he can do, he might be the 2008 version of Calvin Pace.

No...Not at all...
3-4 OLB...OUR 3-4...
Proto Size for it...No confusion at all...
This is yet another guy outta college (Edwards/Pace) that was thrown into a 4-3 role at End...And would be better suited for a 3-4 OLB spot...This newly found front 3 is gonna help him and Peek as much as Wimbley...
It bothers me about this Lack of Enthusiasm we're hearing...But there's gotta be something to it being Detroit...Consider the sources...A GM who's a joke and a Defense that hasn't been any better than a joke for years...
OLB's don't need 5 moves to get pressure in the backfield...
Go Browns!!!

Sorry PDawg, but I can't help you. Even though I have Sunday Ticket, I don't watch the Lions much. And I really haven't seen enough of this guy to tell you anything. In fact, I really don't remember seeing him play. And I'm not going to make crap up about it.
I can tell you that he is intriguing because he has some physical ability and that Phil wanted him before. However, Phil has made some mistakes, so I can't say that certainly makes Edwards a good player. But, Phil did see something.
On the other hand, Edwards' negatives concern me. I really don't like these two items:
---concerns about work ethic ---concerns about discipline in the run game.
We really, really don't need to bring in a player who is going to be a negative against the run. Our run D has been a sore spot for years and as long as Pool is playing FS, it will continue to be a concern. We can't have guys who are a liability against the run.
One more thing to think about. Perhaps we would bring him in to just rush the passer. He would be a "specialist." Now, we must ask ourselves-------is he really all that special?

If he is undisciplined in the run game, what are we going to get out of him if he has to read and drop back.
The guy can get up field but we would be solving one problem and creating another. If we can get him for dirt cheap bring him in but he is just another stop gap until we cap the other end.

I agree that these crticisms worry me. Especially in our defensive system where doing your job and maintaining discipline to your responsibilities is so important.
Having said that, if we do sign him I would welcome him with open arms and wish for the best and hope the lack of discipline for his assignments was because he felt the need to help out those around him either for their lack of discipline or there lack of talent.

His negatives are why he isn't a starting DE anywhere, but as a rotational guy/backup in our 3-4 his pass rushing talents can be allowed to be unleashed. He's a guy who definitely would be better off in a 3-4 than a 4-3. He can be Calvin Pace 2.0.

Dag in D, hey from Springfield. This is an intriguing idea. I really have lost some patience with the whole experiment and project thing. But I could go with this or something like it. Almost like the 3-4 demands variety of LB types. Interesting skill set in this guy

j/c Edwards is visiting the Titans today, so we'll see what comes of that meeting. So as far as scheduling visits goes, it appears he snubbed the browns again. http://www.nashvillecitypaper.com/news.php?viewStory=59179

Where did you get that he snubbed the Browns? Maybe were just not interested in him.

It appears we are interested in him. That doesn't mean he snubbed us, but we'll see if he actually visits or not.

yes, he snubbed the browns a few years ago.
I know i read, and i think its posted on here somewhere, that he would visit the browns this week (wednesday if i remember correctly). It just makes sense if he was a top target a few years ago that the browns would be contacting him now. -not as a DE but an OLB

Did you notice that link is nothing more then a RUMOR? Hell it says it right in the title. I haven't heard anything by someone "In the know" sort of speak say that were interested just some posters from this site. The link you re posted holds no stock to me. Until the organization shows interest then I will, I don't believe everything I read.

He doesn't deserve to be a Brown..
Phil has done well drafting LB's in the draft.. lets stick to it and get him for cheap.

Shocker, here go the Raiduhs again. Throwing more money at another questionable player, so Edwards is off the market now. http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d80775bf5&template=without-video&confirm=trueNo big loss, and yes Edwards did snub the Browns 2 years ago. A couple of people have hinted at it, but I am pretty sure Edwards was the one that talked crap about the Browns and how they wouldn't let him leave Cleveland when he decided not to sign on his visit. After getting dropped by the sorry Lions, looks like the joke was on him!
