Will the tribe put in a claim for Fuentes? I wonder what the asking price is?

...got this from sportsline.com. An Indians fan posed the "who is the PTBNL in the CC trade?" question. I thought some of you would like to read it and comment (I'm only quoting it so it stands out as not mine). Here is his informative post ( LINK ):

Quote:

Well end of the minor league season is coming up soon (first or second week of september depending on the playoffs). Tribe has til then to decided on their 'player to be named later' from the CC deal back in July. Not much new news has come out about it, but I've been asked about it and have found some info.....so here it is:

1. Was originally thought to only be between 2 players....I'm now hearing it may include a list of 4 players.
1 is definately Taylor Green, the 3B playing at High-A right now hitting .290 with 10 HRs and 55 RBIs. I say definately because every source has named him....so I'm confident he's on the list. Tribe is NOT as deep at 3B in the system as people seem to think and he has played 2B in his past so a move there could be in order (though he hasn't played any there since the CC trade).

2. The second is Michael Brantley, the AA outfielder (LF) hitting .318 with an OBP near 400 and 28 steals. Not everyone is convinced he's on the list but most are. Hoynes said yesterday that the Tribe was in attendance scouting him and that he was one of 4 players made available to the Tribe. Tribe definately needs speed and high OBP guys, but he's apparently very bad in the OF and some think he's headed for 1B.....can't have a guy with only 4 HRs at 1B. Though I did read he's been getting better so may be able to stick in LF.

3. The third is most liklely Lorenzo Cain, the outfielder currently playing at AA. Between A and AA he's hitting .279 with 11 HRs and 60 RBIs on the year to go along 25 steals. Is a potential 5 tool player that can play all 3 OF positions and has 11 OF assists this year. May have the highest ceiling of the whole group.

4. The fourth is being rumored to be Jonathon Lucroy, a 22-year old catcher (3rd round pick in 2007) playing A-ball (now high-A). Is hitting .302 on the year (between 2 A-levels) with 19 HRs, 72 RBIs, 9 SBs (for a catcher no less), and a .376 OBP. Tribe just got Carlos Santana from the Dodgers for Blake so catcher doesn't seem like a high priority but you never know. Santana is a 3B by trade and a move back may be made. Lucroy has thrown out 32 of 60 wouldbe basestealers at high-A (according to baseball-reference).....that's over 50%!

Any of these 4 would be HUGE additions to the lackluster offensive system. As I said, Cain probably has the highest ceiling of any of them and was once considered untouchable in a trade with LaPorta (but maybe that changed around trade time). Brantley and Green fill big needs........and Lucroy adds depth (Shoppach to be traded this winter?).

I hadn't heard anything about Shoppach being shopped at all. In fact, like some of you said earlier in this thread, I thought he was the odds of favorite to behind the dish more than VMart in 2009.

And as far as the CC deal, why are they taking so long to decide? Is it up to the Indians? Is it contingent on oh well CC does? If the Tribe and Brewers don't don't agree on the PTBNL, what happens?

They agreed on a list of names before the CC deal went down.

It may be a deal to take place after the minor league season is over, which is fine by me as it gives us a little longer to monitor the potential players as well as the players in our system.

There could have also been a provision to save the brewers allowing them to pull back a name or two had CC gone over there and didn't do anything.

If everybody had like minds, we would never learn.

I think we have until the minor league season is over to pick a player. Not sure if that means minor league playoffs though, which start next week...

That would give us what? A 40 game win streak? I think that may be some sort of record

EDIT: But we would still have a worse record than last year, haha

Might as well give him the Cy Young right now!

20-2 and a 2.32 ERA.

Actually,....if the Sox could be as bad as say,...10-20, the Tribe would only have to go 20-10. But you got the Twinnies in there too.

Man, the Indians really let the Sox off the hook though wetting the bed against Seattle. Had they won that series, they really could have applied some pressure on Chicago.

If they could have won 2 of 3 against Seattle (SHOULD have), they would have had a chance to cut Chicago's lead down to 7.5 with another 3-game series left on the schedule. Story of the season. Coulda, shoulda, woulda.

Congrats to Cliff.... if he doesn't get the Cy Young, they might as well stop giving the award out.

I missed it!

Damn, I tried turning it on, didn't realize it was on STO and on MyYTV. Found out like 5 minutes after it was already over.

Congrats Cliff! What a season!

Agreed, he deserves it,...but I would trade every individual award I've ever had for a team championship instead.

75 Reds,...seven pitchers with 13 wins. I doubt the Cy came out of that group.

Just me,...Lee getting this won't have the luster it ought to have.

Can you imagine how good they would have been with an offense?!? If only they would have just hit and hit and hit?!? God if only I could come up with a nickname for a really really good reliable offense that hit for power and wore red jerseys.

Blanking!!! I hate that!!!!

I know man tell me about it...

Okay so here is what has to happen for the Indians to win the division

We go 21-4 from this point (.840 win %)

and the Twins and Sox both go 10-24 (.416 win %)

That would leave the division like this.

Indians 88-74
Twins 87-75
White Sox 87-75

Hey, it could happen!

I would think a wild card would be a more reasonable achievement, but even that, with the record(s) that Boston, Tampa, and LAA already have, requires the same math you just laid out. The Tribe might go .840, but for the White Sox AND Twins to both go dumper would be a miracle.

I would also be interested in the tiebreakers against Sox/Twins, AND the scenario in the case of a 3-way tie.

with 2 teams both tied for first in the central, we probably can't repeat what the rockies did, sure, one team could start dwindling, but 2 teams? not likely.

but hey, why not? what else do they have to play for?

i'd settle for screwing either boston or chicago's season

i seriously want to see every big spending team fall on their face, i want a rays/brew-crew world series so espn can whine about ratings and look like complete morons.

Is ESPN doing the world series? I personally would like that too.. perhaps if they put some of these teams on television during the regular season, over a few years people might learn the rosters a bit and develop just a little interest in them.. instead they show the same 6-8 teams all year then wonder why ratings suck when those teams aren't in the WS...

i think fox has the ws for the next 3 centuries...

actually, the rays may draw some interest if they make the fall classic, because it wouldn't be one of the same old team, sure bad ratings in nyc and new england, but th rest of the country would probably watch.

You would think.....but when the Spurs and Cavs were in the Finals, NOBODY watched. This past years ratings for the Finals were a lot better....but the teams were Boston and LA. Let's face it, people like watching the big market teams play when their team doesn't make it.

Heck, the Indians and Marlins WS is one of the least watched WS ever. And it went 7 games and the final game went into extra innings. Outside of every one in Ohio and a few people in Florida, nobody saw a second of that. Maybe that's a good thing for us Cleveland fans.

worst day of my life.

to be honest though, if the rays make the world series i would watch, i normally don't watch the world series unless there is a good storyline.

it rarely goes 7, and lately the american league has completely dominated, taking all the air out of the world series.

i didn't watch more than a few innings of last year's world series (and i only watched the innings because i was in vegas, and it was on most of the tvs)(and yes, how awesome would that have been to have been in vegas had the tribe made it)

the cardinals, white sox... bleh..

i watched the red sox win their first one in 86 years, but not every inning...

marlins, yawn.. angels/giants? that was actually a good series...

d-backs/yankees i watched, i think most did, because it was a nice release from what was going on in the country at that time.

overall, th world series has not been good, and i think it's because it has been very predictable with who makes the playoffs...

this year seems a bit different though...

It'll be different because of the possibility of some new blood, but the ratings war will be the same,...dead.

I'm pulling for the Twins in the absence of the forestated "miracles." And actually, the Angels appear to have the best team in the league (opinion) while not the best current record.

While big market, the Dodgers have not been in a while. And the Phillies/Mets battle is very hot. More big market, but very good baseball.

You're right on about one issue though,...just because the Yankees and the Red Sox don't make it, doesn't mean it isn't playoff baseball.

I can't say it was the worst day of my life but sure was a kick in the teeth. My aunt summed it up the best when she said to me months later, "I wanted to puke."

Outside of the 1986 Red Sox and the Scott Norwood Buffalo Bills, I can't think of a time that a title was so close....and then ripped away from the fans so quickly. The Drive, The Fumble and even the Bartman fiasco all took place before the finals. We were two freaking outs away.........I don't know if we'll ever be that close again (All Cleveland teams).

i had a party that day, for my 16th birthday, family, friends, it was going to be a night to remember, and jose mesa ruined it.

my dad told me he watched the tape of game 7 recently, and if you watch the 9th inning, mesa shakes off sandy alomar several times, he was afraid to throw his best pitch, the number one

i hate him with a passion. i don't care if it's just a game.
