Sorry to rain on your parade, but when I have a problem with something, I'm allowed to comment on it. Believe it or not, this is a message board... you know, where people can post their ideas and SHOULD be able to speak freely without having others jump down their throat, even if they disagree. Imagine that... free speech on the internet.

But Dude, as of late it's starting to look like an estrogen overload.

How so? All I've been saying is that I wish Lerner would have gone through a more extensive process. I said I'm fine with Mangini/Kokinis and will absolutely give them the benefit of the doubt, I would just have more confidence if he would've conducted a broader search. I preferred Pioli but I accept the fact that he didn't pick him. I've also said that I really like the Ryan hiring and I don't know enough about the other assistants to pass judgment on them yet. That's all opinion and I'm not whining about anything... I'm just being cautiously optimistic.

You know what makes it seem like I'm whining? When I make one post that dissents from certain people's opinion and they attack me and make me repeat the exact same things over and over ad nauseum because they don't even attempt to understand that a viewpoint can be different from theirs. Suddenly, one post turns into many and all of a sudden, "I care too much" and "I'm whining" and "It's an estrogen overload" when all I'm doing is responding to the trolls that keep bringing up the same points because they love to argue.

Look at all threads like this and tell me if I'm the one who provokes this crap or if I'm just stating my opinion (regardless of who agrees with me) and getting attacked for it.

The process you keep harping about IS TAKING PLACE. That's the whole point. He is interviewing and contacting other candidates, which is what you said he didn't do and had a problem with. You have also stated that KC did a good job in getting Pioli. They didn't go through the process you want Lerner to. It's a double standard and THAT is what I keep brining up. Your posts indicate that your opinion is that Lerner should do an extensive search and interview process.....unless he had hired Pioli (an UNPROVEN GM that has never had final say, BTW). That is the only conclusion people can draw from your posts. No matter what Lerner does, you are holding fast to some "concerns" that he is doing things the wrong way, yet he is doing what you said he wasn't to begin with. You are ignoring that he is continuing to look at candidates. Don't blame me because you are holding fast to something that all reports say isn't true. I'm just pointing out the double standard you are using and the fact that Lerner's actions are following his words.

Every single report out there says it's Kokinis just like every single report out there said it was going to be Mangini even though Randy was conducting "due diligence". If Kokinis wants the job, it's his. Shack Harris isn't going to change that, Shack Harris is the emergency contingency plan in case Kokinis turns it down. I don't care what you pull from the surface or what Lerner says in public, that's my opinion of what I think is happening and it's a very feasible conclusion. I don't care what you think of my opinion, so please stop telling me. I heard your opinion the first, second, third.... etc. time, I've thought it over and I disagree. That's all there is to it. Stop beating a dead horse.

I swear, the only time you ever stop attacking me is when BrownsFanZ posts and then you get your primary bullying target in your sights instead. I wonder if he's around now because I sure would like to be done with this...

If you don't want to subject yourself to ridicule, then you should probably stop posting. Apparently, the things you're posting (and I wouldn't know because I don't read most of them) are making you vulnerable for attack. So if you can't stand the heat...

You kidding? If I couldn't stand the heat I would've been out of here a long time ago. This isn't even heat, this is annoyance. I am just so darn sick of people bringing up the exact same points over and over again when they've already been debated to death and beyond. Apparently the phrase "agree to disagree" doesn't come by these parts very often.

well, not all. some are saying we are going to interview this harris guy from Jacksonville... and as far as I know, Sundquist isn't out but hasn't been scheduled for an interview yet and same goes for Reece as well.

The ones we know are out are: Pioli, McKay, Heckert (I think), Cesrio(from NE).

While Koks may be the front runner, I have one question,,, SO WHAT.. he seems like a competitant guy.. what's the problem with him... and if He and Mangini can get the job done,, then great,

I just said this to someone in PM.... I swear, we have fans on here that would complain if we didn't score enough points in our first Superbowl win

Firstly, the estrogen overload thing was a joke. But I forgot the smiley. That's on me.

But it just seems you come up with unreasonable scenarios with nothing to base them on.

I mean, Lerner has been taking the advice from Accorsi. Yet another GM candidate is being interviewd.

Lerner spends a LOT of time in New York. Don't you think he's watched Mangini? Don't you think that he has his connections in New York to have researched Mangini?

Don't you think that's why Lerner was so surprised when Mangini was fired? Could it be he saw the very qualities in Mangini that he felt we needed here so very badly?

If you KNOW you're going to buy a car. And there is ONE certain car you like because of it's features and advantages, Why look at ten other cars? Not only do you get what you felt was best, but it was confimed and recommended by one of the top auto experts. (Accorsi)

Now there's only one of those cars available and recommended. Why would you pass it up and risk losing it by waiting? I just don't get why this sounds so bad?

If he was confused on which direction he wanted to go, I could understand your concern. But IMO, Lerner knew Phil and RAC were done some time ago. And ever since, he's been making his contingency plans. There's nothing "knee jerk or rushed" about that.

So you either believe Randy is some kind of "idiot billionaire", or you might consider this a very well thought out plan that is taking shape.

Now can I prove this is how it happenned? No, I can't.

Since the Lerners purchased the Browns, there have been three failed regimes. Lerner knows the fan base is getting fed up. He knows the urgency for success. He knows how critical it is for him to hit a home run ball this time.

With all of this in mind, I would find it HIGHLY illogical to even HINT that he "rushed into anything". But rather that Accorsi advised him that the firing of Mangini was a "golden oppertunity". And that we would be very well served with such a coach ESPECIALLY with a little experience under his belt that can coach and instill dicipline.

So IMO- You either have to believe that this thing was studied and looked at for some time. And that the fate of Savage and RAC were determined some time ago. Or you have to believe in the fact that Lerner is a complete moron.

Sorry, but I don't think he's a moron. I believe that Accorsi told him that Mangini could very well be the goose that could lay the golden egg. And that no other possible candidate could bring as much to the table as Mangini.

At that juncture, why go any further? Why risk Mangini going elsewhere while you are doing more interviews to less qualified candidates?

I just don't understand the logic there.

JMHO

Interesting...if he's hired..then Lerner is looking for someone to be over or be with the new GM and coach..

That's because you keep ducking the point and you switch your views so that you can continue to lambast Lerner for what he's done. Try to stop playing the martyr and claiming you're being "attacked" when all anyone is doing is pointing out your double standard. Now, address the issue as to why it's ok for you to flip flop.

You called out Lerner and went so far as to say he should sell the team because he wasn''t "vetting" to YOUR satsifaction. You said he wasn't looking at any other GM candidates and Coke was a done deal since the day Gini was hired.

Now, since then, there has been contact with MANY candidates and interviews being sought or conducted with other candidates. Lerner stated before the interview with Coke that he wasn't "rubber stamping" anyone and was performing a search for the right guy. So, not only is what Lerner saying in public contradicitng your assertions (that you call opinions when caled on it), but so are his actions.

Add to that the fact that you called Lerner out for not looking at enough candidates, but then when KC hires Pioli, you show disdain for Lerner not hiring Pioli, HIS FIRST INTERVIEW. It's a double standard. Period. No one is "attacking" you. They are questioning why you are so adamant in using a double standard and dismissing what is not only being reported, but the actions taking place. That is far from "feasible". It's ignoring facts to hold stubbornly to your preconcieved notions.

No one is denying Coke is the front runner. What I, and others, take issue with is your denying of what is going on and holding fast to an opinion proven wrong and the double standard on the hiring of a GM. That's not "attacking" you, it's attacking your stance.

Actually, you haven't used "logic" in your reply. You've said Pioli is great and that's why you don't need to do a great search. There is nothing to prove that to be the case in a position he's never had except that you have that OPINION. Again, stop playing the martyr. You are using a double standard based on who you think is a lock, even with no actual proof to back that up, and bcaause you don't like who is being interviewed and is the front runner for the job. I will challenge that any time I feel like it because, as you so "logically" said before, it's a messageboard and I have the same "freedom of speech" that you do. Hmmmm, another double standard LOL.

No, that's your dumbed down version of what I post. I have spelled it out piece for piece already and there's no chance I'm going to do it again. It's like you take what I post, make a stupid generalization based on it (namely that I love Pioli, which I don't, I just like his qualifications) and then harass me about the same thing over and over until I respond with the exact same thing and then when I respond, you take that response, dumb it down, and then repeat.

My opinion is my opinion. I'm entitled to it just like you're entitled to yours and I've never said anything different. I have absolutely no problem with people challenging my opinions as it actually helps both define my opinion and learn other sides to stories. The thing is, when I give mine, I don't act like I'm the ultimate authority, nor do I try to make other people feel small for theirs.

LOL, so you are going to play the martyr and basically ignore what you've posted. Here are the facts. You posted Lerner wasn't using "due diligence" in his search. He has shown that he is with all the candidates he's talked to and interviews being conducted. Then KC hires Pioli without the "due diligence" and you think it's the right move. That is the bottom line. You can play the victim all you want, but that is a double standard. You can use a double standard all you want, but that doesn't mean people won't call you on it. I don't act like the ultimate authority or try to make you feel small. I pointed out the double standard you used and correct the inaccurate things you post about Lerner's "due diligence". The differnce is that when I find out that my opinion isn't correct based on the actual facts, I have no problem saying I was wrong. THAT'S the difference. Now, either keep playing the victim because someone dares point out the flaws in your posts or talk football. Either way, don't post an opinoin and how you came to it if you don't want people to talk about it. Make sure you use facts and not ignore them if you don't want them brought up.

I already told you the reason why it's not a double standard is because Pioli and Kokinis are two incredibly different individuals in terms of qualification... and no offense, but I only talk football with people who are actually also willing to listen and carry on two-sided conversations. Thanks anyway though.

Hmmmm....vastly different? Nope.....neither have had final say in anything. The only difference is that Coke wasn't in charge of the scouting of college players. then that, they pretty much had the same responsibilities....reporting to smeone else. Of course, the SITUATIONS are different when you see KC hired their first interview and Lerner hasn't done so and is still contacting other candidates.

I am willing to listen and have a two sided conversation. What I'm not willing to do is ignore facts to fit my agenda.....a big difference.

But let some stranger come in and try to break it up? Then the brothers will kick his ass and go right back to fighting amongst themselves!

No, you're an Internet bully. One with a fair amount of football knowledge, but a bully nonetheless.

Your MO has always been to pick on one statement that you think you can twist and then spend as much time as it takes to beat the statement and the person who posted it to death.

Spectre just won't let you get away with it. He's got more stamina in that respect than I do so I have to give the man a round of applause.

Now, go find Ammo and ask him about Troy Smith. He misses you......

Look man, just to take things completely out of context for a minute and shamelessly go off on a tangent....

I ain't got one ounce of Religion in me, but i am seriously pulling for this guy in his current situation. Dude's like a dog with a bone, "always has been, always will be." The stuff he's posted on these last couple of days is just same 'ol Coach and the boards just wouldn't be the same without him

Browns interview James Harris for GM spot

TOM WITHERS

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Browns interviewed James "Shack" Harris, Jacksonville's former vice president of player personnel, on Thursday for their general manager opening.

Harris met with Browns owner Randy Lerner and team officials in the New York area. He is the fourth candidate to interview for the GM spot, left open when Phil Savage was fired last month.

George Kokinis, Baltimore's director of player personnel, remains the front-runner to join the Browns. He's a longtime friend of Cleveland coach Eric Mangini, who recommended him to Lerner during his interview. Kokinis is expected to meet with the Browns next week. The Ravens will play at Pittsburgh in Sunday's AFC Championship.

During his search, Lerner also met with former New England vice president Scott Pioli, who landed the Kansas City GM job this week, and Browns director of player personnel T.J. McCreight.

Harris, the first black quarterback in NFL history to start a season opener, left his position with the Jaguars before their season finale at Baltimore. Jacksonville finished a disappointing 5-11, and while not all the club's offseason moves were Harris' decisions, he took the fall for their failures.

Two moves may have sealed his fate. He signed free agent wide receiver Jerry Porter and cornerback Drayton Florence to contracts that included $23 million in guaranteed money.

Porter missed all of training camp and the preseason following surgery to repair a torn hamstring. He started six games, finished the season on injured reserve and with just 11 catches for 181 yards. Florence struggled in zone coverage and was relegated mostly to playing in nickel and dime situations.

Harris also had a run of questionable first-round draft picks, and although he never had the GM title, he was blamed for personnel decisions even though coach Jack Del Rio played a role in every roster move.

Harris could be a backup plan in case they are spurned by Kokinis. Harris was the Ravens' pro personnel director for six seasons and helped Baltimore win the 2001 Super Bowl.

The Browns do not have any further interviews planned at this time.

Dont mind otto, Riddler. HIm calling anyone an internet bully is like the pot calling the kettle black. Up until I put him on ignore, he's never actually talked football. He just trolls around hurling insults at people. Look at his last post. He's so juvenile and doing what he accuses others of that he has to try this crap even when he knows he's on ignore. How pathetic and desperate for attention can one person be?

As for Spectre, there was no "bullying". He was inconsistent in what he's been saying and I caled him on it. I honestly do not understand how someone can be so adament that one company doing something is bad business practice and another doing the same thing is sound. It makes no sense, even with his explanation. From the posts, it appears that it's ok to use unsound business practices (in his view) if it is done to hire someone he likes. That was the point of continuing to bring it up. Nothing more, nothing less. Yet people refer to taking things ot of context. Again, it's the pot and kettle thing.

If we were talking "true GM' with power, yeah i'd insist on Kok, but really the guy coming in here isn't gonna have the final word anyhow, so its no huge deal if Kok says no.

Both will answer to Randy, but when push comes to shove, EM will win. As long as EM and he can get along, and the two have the same ideas, I think shack could work. Hopefully Kok will come on board, seems like a good person not just a talent geek.

It's never been said who will have the final word, but I would want the HC to have the final say on personel. It works other places and the HC is the person that has to coach the players brought in and would know better than anyone which one fits the system. It works in many successful places. It worked with Cowher in Pitt, in N.E., and in Dallas during their J.J. days.

Maybe it hasnt been said, but is a GM who isnt even here yet, gonna have final say when it really comes down to it? Prolly not. I agree, the coach should have the final say, once hes earned it.

With the draft not until April, yes the GM could still have final say. He isn't, or rather shouldn't, be the one out there scouting anyway at this stage. The scouts are already here and working, so that has no bearing on the decision.

As for having "earned" the final say, JJ, Cowher, and Belechick hadn't "earned" anything when they got final say and those turned out pretty well. At what point does someone "earn" that anyway? You have an experienced coach that has won 2/3rds of his seasons coached. The biggest reason for his last season's collapse was an aging QB being injured and playing horiribly that was forced on him because he didn't have final say. I would say that if Coke is the choice, then Gini has 'earned" the final say based on he is the one that is experienced.
